    Blue Mages are always so weird to me due to how weird some of the spells are. Some of them are like "Deals damage equal to half your HP divided by the rotation of the planets and if it's a Tuesday or not." and then the other half is just like "Here's a nuke and a max defense buff. Have fun."

      5:25 not toggling off encounters in boost mode eh? 20:25 I saw that 😅
      22:55 didn’t know about Odin instakilling rear for neo exdeath though my doom casted but didn’t go off in 30 seconds. Top middle can be hit with break so that’s a unique way to kill final boss. Assuming blue mage can’t petrify. Oh 23:03 missed for you too. Weird.

    IMHO the following are all Blue Mages in other mainline games:
    FF6 - Strago's Lores are straight up FF5 blue magic, with the same learn mechanics
    FF7 - Enemy Skill Materia is this game's version of Blue Magic
    FF8 - Limited, but Quistis' limit break
    FF9 - Quina is this game's blue mage, but the power is gotten through eating rather than being hit by learnable spells

    • @Xephrost_Gaming
      @Xephrost_Gaming  4 месяца назад +5

      I'd agree that all of these are blue magic. Square really loved putting blue magic mechanics in the from ff5 through ff10(-x). They just also didn't have proper job classes for these games.

    • @glyyytch
      @glyyytch 4 месяца назад +8

      Don't forget Kimahri in FFX. Using his Lancet skill on enemies let's him use enemy skills with his Overdrive, similar to Quistis in FFVIII.

    • @veghesther3204
      @veghesther3204 4 месяца назад +1

      But IMHO Kimahri in FFX is kind of CRAP at least the OTHER party members can use them when ever they want to too bad MOST ATTACK lores in FF5 are crap in fact Ultima as a spell makes Grand Delta's Strago's FINAL ATTACK lore SUCK. since it does LESS damage then Ultima.

    • @glyyytch
      @glyyytch 4 месяца назад +6

      @@veghesther3204he is the weakest out of all of the FFX characters, but that's because of his placement on the sphere grid. He has to dip into another character's grid and will always be behind them in growth. Unless you specifically grind out the sphere grid to max all stats and learn all abilities for everyone, there's no real reason to use him as he will be the least effective party member. However, he is still a blue mage who's mechanics are essentially the same as Quistis' which is why he shouldn't have been left out of the list given by the OP.

    Fun fact. If you tried the Atomos boss fight on the SNES using Time Slip, the game will check if Atomos is immune to Sleep and immune to Old, and will cause the spell to fail if it's immune to _either one_ of those statuses. Because it is immune to Old, Time Slip will straight up fail, regardless if it's susceptible to Sleep. I learned this the hard way when I was doing a Chaos Randomizer FJF run.

    It's interesting how the ability to turn off encounters shifts the value of spells around. Rod-boosted Flamethrower has been my default attack pretty much as soon as I learn it, due to the cost efficiency. Contrast with 1000 Needles which is about the cost of tier 2 magic for half the damage. It's neat.
    I feel bad for Death Claw. Previous versions of FF5 would cause a spell to fail if even one of its ailments targeted an immunity. So by the time the second opportunity to learn it comes around it's mostly useless. Just like my precious little inept Remora.

    • @Xephrost_Gaming
      @Xephrost_Gaming  4 месяца назад +3

      Agreed. Skipping random encounters is very useful to prioritize more interesting parts of the games, but it definitely makes some spells/abilities in the game more or less important than they would be in a "normal" playthrough.

    You don't need white wind or any magic from control's use to beat the game with blue mages.
    But honestly it makes it far less of a pain later on so I get why you did it.
    Edit: wait, you didn't kill 4 of archeoavis's 5 forms with level 5 death? Bummer
    Wait. You know to half the level of greg and lv5 death him, but not with atomos?
    Ok this one you might not know.
    Level 2 old works on exdeath because he is level 66. For each atb bar fill that indicates time passing, a level is decreased on the target.
    So. Just cast level 2 old on exdeath and then level 5 death him nearly right after. You get Lv2 old in exdeath's castle if not from an enemy in the barrier tower if you wanna use control.

      In fact some bosses HAVE to be leveled up to lv 255 to kill them its NOT possible to LV DOWN Shinryu/Omega with Dark Spark to lv 5 death both BOTH X Death and its Neo form have to be lv 255 to lv 5 death them BUT Neo has like 5 targets needed to be at lv 255 so that lv 5 death kills them.
      BUT Omega is in permanent reflect mode LV 5 death is actually reflectable so you need to lv it up to lv 255 and reflect it off of your OWN party members to lv 5 death it.

    (Side note, soul cannon always does half your max HP. Which you probably know but just in case, it's one of the biggest roadblocks in FFV challenge runs imo when you don't have healing or high damage output, it's impossible to survive two rounds)
