  • I've decided to compare the experience of doing a Red Mages only playthrough in Final Fantasy games. This means I need to do a red mages only run in some Final Fantasy Games. That starts this week with Final Fantasy 1.

    Found your channel like 2 weeks ago and you’ve quickly become one of my favorites to watch! Can’t wait to see the FFV video!

    Dude you put a lot of effort and research into these videos. When I saw you had under 1000 subs I was surprised, I hope this comment helps you out in the algorithm. Keep up the great work

    Congrats on an all Red Mage playthrough! I got a taste of the int stat actually working back in Dawn of Souls, Red Mages have it rough.
    Don't know if this is relevant to you specifically, but here's some crunch for those who enjoy it.
    I haven't played the PR yet, but NES FF1 doesn't have a protect spell.* It has a spell that raises your absorb by 8, about twice what you get from wooden armour. The full-party version increases absorb by 12. So yeah, "Protect" is definitely not reducing physical damage taken by 50% like in later games.
    Wizards deal 1-2 hits for 30-60 damage each so subtracting 8 per hit isn't a lot. Pirates deal 8-16 damage once per turn which becomes 1-8 with "Protect." (Or just 1 if you're wearing Chain Armour with 15 absorb all by itself, no "Protect" needed)
    Again, that's all NES numbers, just for comparison purposes.
    *It _might_ be protect in Japanese, but it was FOG and FOG2 in English.

    RE: Astos. It's an RNG tactic but he is vulnerable to Silence.

    I can't help it, I love red mages. Any time that's an option, I take it

    Red Mage is my favorite class! I know.. technically the worst. But I loved how you demonstrated their innate versatility!

    Ah yes, the FF1 Red Mage. This game was where they were in their prime. It's funny that i'm just now seeing these FF1 PR videos, considering i just beat a challenge run of this game myself. Since you can turn random encounters off and on at your leisure, i thought to myself: "What would the run be like if i just never got a random encounter...like...ever?" So i did that run and ended up beating Chaos at lvl 23. Now I'm trying that same run again, but with the 0.5 EXP modifier on the entire time.(I love the fact that there is an option to make the game as hard or as easy as you want it to be)

      Yeah, the adjustments they added are great. I find changing the exp and gil values are great to make recording faster, which really helps get a video out every week.

    Honestly this sounds more complicated than my Solo Red Mage playthrough I did when I was a teenager. At least in that I had the comfort of being consistently over leveled since the exp coming in was 4x higher than what was intended.

    I only beat ff1 once, using two warriors, a red mage and a monk. Little did i realize i had a ridiculously op party.

    Red mage has always been my favorite class. FFV is REALLY good early on, but unfortunately it doesn't scale to high levels and falls off. FF11 gave Red Mage a niche use as a buffer/debuffer and they did it well at all levels.

      I found that in ff1 that they’re ridiculously good when you realize that since they have better survivability than black mages which means they can be your buffer and can still pack a decent punch with their weapons.

      @@hunterrhoades1813 I've done full Red Mage runs in nearly every version of FF1. GBA was easiest due to MP.

      While the series I'm doing is across multiple games in the series, I think it'd be really interesting to see someone compare a class across multiple releases of the same game. Especially one like FF1 that has had so many different releases with many tweaks to the mechanics.

      The PSP FF 1 also has a MP stat but the 4 elemental temples the ones that are like 10 to 40 floors long (after you beat the 4 crystal bosses) I believe they still EXIST on the PSP version but Omega/Shinryu even at lv 99 may be IMPOSSIBLE to survive their attacks WITH 4x Red mages/Wizards.

      @@Xephrost_Gaming as well as new gear to make certain jobs more viable like the lightbringer for red mage which you can use to cast holy on enemies… also the elven cape which all characters except monk can equip which made mages easier to keep alive.

    you don't really need those fancy high offensive magic, all you need are haste and temper, and you're ready to face any boss, which makes me think mages in this game are somewhat useless, since you can cast those spells using item with any job

  • @veghesther3204
    @veghesther3204 7 дней назад

    Its more DOABLE then 4x WHITE Mages but may still be impossible even at lv 99 if you can't OUTdamage Chaos using his own 9999 CURE 3 spells on HIMSELF.

    Items just make anything work. Party lacks healing? Helm. Need the best spell early? Gauntlet. Red mage great early but always felt weak late..

    • @Xephrost_Gaming
      @Xephrost_Gaming  7 дней назад

      Yeah, the items you get access to are really nice. And I agree that red mage scales poorly in this game. Probably just because the game really wants you to switch to amping up a single physical attacker to deal good damage by endgame.

    • @veghesther3204
      @veghesther3204 7 дней назад

      The only problem with the Healing Helm/rods is while a lv 99 Black/White Wizard/mage may get up to 90 to 100 Healing out of it on the ENTIRE party a lv 99 Red Mage/Wizard party may be LUCKY enough to have the SAME items restore even HALF that at 45 to 50 HP per use at lv 99 and Chaos and its spells do WAY more damage then that.
