Just a tip, to allow the EFI to adjust to the new volume of air, your supposed to start the bike from cold, NOT rev it and allow the bike to idle for 10-12 minutes, the efi will then adjust to the new air fuel mix and adjust it.
Hearsay? Where is it written that this is necessary or the correct procedure? The ECU adjusts the air-fuel mixture in real time using the O2 sensor, so what, exactly, do you imagine needs to be learnt? This advice keeps cropping up in various places on the Internet, but I've never yet seen a motorcycle shop manual that tells you to do it. Which is a realm72 mph. Not that’s what I will be doing. I now got a Honda Rebel as my main bike. Due to being able to flat foot it. But, something about the Meteor, so hanging on to Bumble. You have to leave it running for ten mins from cold with no revving for the ECU to reprogram it's self, shout out to Stuart Fillinghams Interceptor DNA RUclips video that I watched last night and ordered one this morning!
I've heard mixed opinions on running it after, that after a few runs the ECU will sort itself out, and that you shouldn't leave it to idle . Who knows!?!
I have installed BMC filter on my classic reborn which shares the same engine with meteor and here are my observations:- 1) The lower gear pull/torque becomes very slightly more responsive. How much more is subjective but on a rough scale I would say if earlier you rated responsiveness let's say 7 out of 10 then now you shall feel it to be between 7 -7.4. So not a very huge or drastic change. 2) The sound does become throaty and the occasional burst fire is reduced. It is a very smooth firing now. 3) It absolutely makes no change in the higher end and if you are riding it in mountains or moving through varying elevations, you will feel it's underpowered for its weight. So it was never quick and this filter will not make it any quicker either. Powertronics fuelX lite is what I will try next as changing AFR in my view will make a more visible change. Though I expect that also not to make huge changes, but these smaller changes will eventually result in a smoother ride I think. Who these mods are for:- Enthusiasts only, for regular riders, the bike is good as is and you can enjoy every bit of it.
Just installed on my Royal Enfield Classic 350 Makes a nice difference that gets better with a few rides. I did the filter as well. It runs rough for a minute then settles. I always soak my fasteners in tea (with milk), the tannic acids and lactose prevents rust formation on the threads. They also make the engine sound much smoother. Note, this does not work with coffee.

I fitted the DNA filter and end cap to my Meteor on Thursday. The recommendation is to fit the filter, start the engine and let it idle for 15 minutes for the ECU to reset itself. Yep, it's the best mod for 90 odd quid you can do to a Meteor!!! The pick up and response is phenomenal compared to standard filter spec. Lots of inducion roar too. Mid range performance greatly improved and 50 - 70 mph speed time greatly reduced. I was a doubter before I bought mine but can now understand what all the fuss is about. It feels a different bike altogether, going to fit one also to my 350 Classic.🙂👍
If you want to get the best performance out of your bike, also install the Hitchcock's decat conversion. I'm not sure how much extra it adds but its significant at the top end. I also recommend the 16T gearbox sprocket. These three mods together make the bike a far better bet on fast roads.
Great job, well worth swapping the filter for the DNA one, the OEM filters are paper which is restrictive compared to the DNA version, which is also washable so you will only need to buy it once.
One word of caution, warranties can occasionally be dishonoured by manufacturers and warranty companies if non original equipment is fitted and something potentially expensive goes wrong. They will often try. No extra power can be obtained as the engine will breath what it needs. You might hear the induction more as you open the throttle...but that is all. Great down to earth videos, not showing all the rosy side of biking....
@@trevorgibbs1602 hi Trevor, I don't entirely agree with you there. I swapped the standard filter for a K&N on a 750 SRAD i owned a few years ago and according to the dyno it gained an extra 7 horse power. I will however concede that with a small capacity bike with less than 20 horse power such as the meteor any gain will be virtually unnoticeable.
You are wise to keep the original filter (protects the engine best, a different filter could void your warranty. Probably best to refit the original cover before you take the bike in for service (warranty concern). Like your videos - you are a very capable lady🍀
Yes, I was wondering about the warranty side of things, if changing original parts would make the warranty void. Best to ask an Enfield dealer for his advise I think.
I had one on my old T120 Triumph, but on the new 2022 new generation any engine mods like that make absolutely no difference. The ECU will negate it. And not just that, when Euro 6 come in it will be 101% negate changes and may even make it worse. Too many sensors and it’s also where they’re putting the sensors. Keep your Euro 4 guys. Cheers NZ.
I'm on the same meteor forums as you Charlie, read all the posts re air fiter/ cover mods so ordered and fitted mine today, intended to ride the bike , come back , change cover, ride bike , come back , change filter, felt like a kid at Xmas unwrapping it so fitted it all and went and rode it,..definite improvement! Bit louder( I wear an open face) more acceleration, now thinking about a louder exhaust lol,..
Thanks for posting, I'm fascinated to see how you are getting on with the Meteor! I'm guessing the "Advertised improvement" with this new filter cover, is that the air doesn't have to turn 90 degrees before entering the air box. Perhaps this with the original set up, was a restriction? Looking at this as a simple person without an engine testing machine myself, I'm struggling to see how this would make an improvement in actual power output unless the engine people at RE didn't know what they were doing in the first place. 🤨 Again, guessing, the "Inlet trumpet horn thingy," arrangement would stop mice or small birds nesting in there if the bike was unused for a winter etc. 🤣But, the most important improvement I can see here is in the rider's ability to know their machine intimately.👍👍 I can see a benefit in fitting a "Reusable / washable air filter" instead of a disposable paper one, in pure terms of long term cost. Keep the videos coming, they are often the highlight of my day! 😉
You say that RE know what they are doing but sometimes decisions are made for other reasons. On the VFR 800 the airbox is really restricted and it has a valve arrangement which is done for emissions testing. It makes the bike really snatchy at the bottom end and when removed it improves dramatically.
I saw a Royal Enfield Himalayan owner do the same to his bike but reverted back to OEM as it dragged in a lot of dust and muck with being such a wide aperture.
Charlie I did the airbox mod myself by running an inch and a quarter tank cutter through the air box cover. I then bought a Red Rooster stainless end can and link pipe (does away with the cat). I definitely noticed more performance and a lovely note from the pipe with some farting and popping on the throttle over run. It won't help top end as they are goverened to 72mph although mine gives 75 on the clock😲😀. Enjoy the little Meteor, I love mine. PS.. Oh if your engine management light keeps coming on like mine time to time buy an ODB meter from flebay to turn it off, save you the trouble of running back to your dealer.. I bought one and the daft swines sent me two😀😲🤣
I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. I did the same mod 2000 odd miles ago to my meteor, just the filter cover. As you've noticed pickup is snappier, but I also noticed it can be a bit snatchy on/off the throttle. However, I got used to it. For such a cheap easy fix it works, sounds better and runs better. I also did the 12 mins startup, leave the throttle alone and let it tick over. Apparently, it helps the ecu adjust to the different air flow, I have no idea if it did, but it didn't do any harm. Just ignore the naysayers and enjoy.
I'm thinking the ECU didn't remap, why you often need a special tool to make it relearn. That's the issue with these little mods like this, these companies throw this crap out. With No research or real world testing or numbers. Because people think they need it, in most cases it's just a money grab.
Great tweak Charlie. I have fitted the cover and filter. Definitely a bit throatier, esp on the overrun when you shut the throttle. I have also purchased the FuelX from TEC bike parts. Yet to fit it but looking forward to further improvement on the engine running. A tail tidy yet to fit too. Isn’t this all such fun!
I love the color of your meteor, Been riding for 20 years now and love everything on two wheels, I dont feel anything driving the car but I take the long way round on the bike just for the hell of it. much love from Bristol
Nice video that mod will help the bike breath the only sound difference will not be the exhaust it will be the induction nose and you’ll only notice that when you give it a good handful, smart little bike thanks for sharing 👍
The DNA Air filters and covers are a great bit of kit i have them on my interceptor , you`ll need to upgrade the brakes too now with all the extra power 🤣🤣 , belting vid 👍
Oh yeah and you can get exactly the same effect by using a hole drill and cut out a hole in the standard cover, which lines up with the inside of the filter, I've seen a guy who did it.
I was just thinking the same thing, just modify the old 1, only thing is when selling the bike she can give the original cover with the bike if the new owner wants to keep it stock
Well, for one, she's keeping the OEM parts as many of us do, and two, the hole in the new cap has a nice rounded edge to keep airflow from being erratic. There is a difference in a sharp-edged hole and the one on this cap. OTOH, if you got no money and want to mod, enjoy cutting the OEM part! No harm there... Ride Safe 🙏🏼
You will be able to ride between two rows of cars for miles and miles now because it provides maximum filtering.😁 ( Sorry 😭). A little tip if I may. Get yourself a magnetic parts tray. They look like an ashtray but are magnetic ( DOH!). They're available on Amazon/Toolstation/Screwfix. That way you won't have to use your teacup as a storage unit.😀 Also if a small nut/bolt/washer falls on the ground and you can't see or find it it's easy to sweep over the ground and the magnet picks up the invisible little bastard. (Obviously only works on magnet friendly parts) Looking forward to the next vid..
I've always wondered what it did. I've seen it on the Hitchcocks website. Being an Indian motorcycle, I suspect the reverse horn original is just a way of not sucking in too much dust. This is more streamlined to fit, with a bigger less restricted aperture. Could remove a possible partial vacuum if you're revving hard on the original. You could revisit it after you've kept a tally of your fuel consumption maybe?
Didn’t know you could use the DNA cover with the original filter. I’m going to get the matching DNA filter with cover to see how I like it for my Classic 350. A problem that could arise is a lean running condition due to increased air volume and the ECM not adjusting fuel to match. There is an electronic tuning box to correct it. Your bike initially stalled on startup likely due to an adverse air:fuel ratio for a moment. Also, apparently Hitchcock’s sells a modified original air filter cover that’s open like the DNA cover. I wonder what the difference is as I assumed that existed because the DNA cover required the matching filter 🤷🏼♂️
Hey Charlie. How are you finding the DNA? I've just ordered one with the filter. Have you ridden enough to notice a difference or is Roger getting all the attention? :)
Great video. I fitted the DNA air filter to my 2020 Classic 500 and it really makes a difference, along with the NGK Iridium spark plug. The modified air plate wasn't needed on the 500 because it's basically already there but on the inner side of the filter box, rather than the outer. The filter housing on my Royal Enfield Himalayan is pretty much exactly the same as your Meteor and I will be fitting both the plate, as you show here and the DNA filter itself. An NGK Iridium spark plug will also be fitted and is really beneficial to an air cooled engine as it handles the hotter running temperatures far better than the standard plug, gives a stronger spark and lasts around 60k miles.
The difference will be in the induction note rather than the sound of the exhaust. There is little doubt that the engine will breathe easier with that fitted because it looks like the air intake is less restricted than the original. Whether you will notice any difference in peformance, I really don't know. Please let us know? 🙂
Hi love your videos. Just a question has your bike ever jerked after about an hour of riding. As I have the same bike as you a 2022 model , And I've found after about an hour of riding the engine jerks couple of times or half a dozen in quick succession like a misfire then it will clear might do it again might not for the rest of the ride. Have taken it to the dealer no fault codes and they can't find any thing wrong with it.
@@motorcycleridepov8230 Thanks for your comment, Spoke to Tek products. They say they are trying to source better quality spark plugs that's what he thinks is causing the problem. Even though they are Bosh that are fitted as standard.
Glad to see you doing mods yourself. But I think you really need to get a K&N air filter instead of the thing you bought. A K&N is a washable filter that will last 100,000 miles. It will flow air a lot better than the stock filter. I run them in my cars and on my Harley springer. I haven’t checked, but I’m sure they make one for an Enfield. They’ve been around for decades. You change your filter and you will get better mileage and about 5-10 extra horsepower. And you never have to mess with it again. ,100,000 miles you take it out, wash it, oil it, and put it back. There good for a million miles.
They do a filter to go with this, I was hoping to get away without replacing that as it's just had a new one, but seems like from popular opinion I may need to. 😊
quad lock has an anti vibration mount, I cant tell if you have one but if you dont its a must buy. saves your mobile phone camera from getting vibrated to bits
Hi I got the cover and dna filters on both my bikes the scram 411 and the mk 2 interceptor makes all the difference to make the engine breath better 👍👍🙏
now this is why you would make a Harley rider, we all change air filters, exhausts etc to get better performance and a little more noise, but to get full advantage of the extra air we have to Remap the engine on Harleys, i dont know if this can be done by your Enfield dealer.
In other videos i asked you Does it worth to take a touring seat. U said it does so I did it and i must say it worth. Now i am going to buy this filter 😊. Greetings.
The Tea making, you know what you did🙈 you do get subtle power increases with these mods, changing the stock can for an after market one made a power difference on pick up with mine😉
I’m definitely interested about your take on this product. I’ll be keeping an eye out for future updates. A 349 cc, by any other name, is still a 349 cc but, it can’t hurt, can it 😉😄✌
Thank you for another great video! I am wondering…If it was the optimum for the bike would nt RE have it as standard? And will it not affect the mileage? In any case I hope you enjoy the mod and keep filming! Greetings from Piraeus Greece!
Hi Charlie it's Charlie hope your well increasing induction will give you a better air feul ratio and the engine will pick up better and have a better sound 😀 👍 won't effect top end or mid range may use a tad more petrol but not so that you will notice. Thanks I really enjoyed the video stay safe young lady 😁 Chas.
Well done, I think I would have just modified the original one with a Stanley knife, just remove the rubber bit, would that work. Trouble with us bikers is we’re always searching after more power. It sounds really nice with and without the mod.
I have 5 different sets of toolboxes/sockets/torx/Allen and the shutting mechanisms all plastic have broken so everytime i use them everything is jumbled. Wish still had metal toolboxes or I wasn’t so clumsy. Does sound throatier to me?
I'm doing a one nighter this weekend, then need to hatch plans for early January ( weather depending) and a big tour in June. There will be more in-between. Bike wise, I had a little go on a Himalayan and really liked it, there will be more trials to come, and I'm watching for the 650 Meteor with interest. 😊
It will increase the induction noise and it will slightly reduce your MPG for a miniscule increase in power. If you want to make it louder go for a new exhaust can. I have an Interceptor with straight through exhausts, my neighbours hate me
Not sure about the filter cover, but tea ….in the old days if the cup was made from poor quality clay, the hot water would break the cup. So putting milk in first took the temperature of the tea down when it was poured.
Hi another mechanical job done well, It looks to me as if the bore of the intake on this replacement air box cover is a bigger diameter, fortunately your bike is fuel injected and to some degree the fuel management system will compensate for the extra air being drawn in. The more air the weaker the mixture and on a machine fueled by a carb you might have had to re jet the carb. More air also means your motor may run slightly hotter than before and the extra noise people talked about is an induction roar, the sound of an air box without the factory intake fitted, most prob designed by the factory to reduce noise rather than restrict the bike. Best thing is take the bike for a decent run and on your return let the motor cool down so you don't burn your fingers, take the spark plug out and see what colour the electrode of the plug is, fuel injected machines plugs tend to be on the white side but if it is very white your motor is running too weak.
@@restdayrider You are more than welcome, checking the spark plug after a decent run will tell you what is going on inside the engine, better safe than sorry.
FYI, if like RDR you want to keep the OEM filter but get more air, I see at HItchcock's that they have a much cheaper cover with a larger opening...it's about 11 Brit pounds cheaper! "PART No. 93159 OPEN COVER, AIR FILTER ELEMENT, 350 Meteor + Classic Reborn" I can't post links... Ride Safe 🙏🏼
Hi Rest Day Rider , Hello From Australia . i believe the modification does not make any differents to the exhaust sound but at the air in intake it will . all the best , like your video's 👍
I think you need the filter too to make a difference , you've opened the inlet up but if the paper filter won't take all the extra flow rate its kinda wasted ! Imagine making the neck of a funnell twice as wide but the outlet is still narrow , I'm sure there are some engineering types can explain better ! But one thing I do know is that you should not be putting milk in with the tea bag ! 😉
@@restdayrider I only put the milk in the cup if I'm using a teapot , but my gran used to frown upon that too ! 🤣 Hope it wasn't a Yorkshire tea teabag you flagrantly abused !
Just watched your video about changing the air filter cover. You need to watch the video by motorcycle fettlers to see the proper procedure. Also you do need the filter to really improve the bikes performance. Good luck
Most of these companies have no real testing or numbers, behind these "mods". And while yes a less restrictive intake is in theory "better", you don't know why RE had that intake cover in place. Case in point the post from the person who did this mod, and now says the have a "snatchy on/off throttle".
The new cover will definitely let more air in, but without the actual DNA filter, shouldn't make much difference on its own. And not to rain on your parade, but the problem with filters like DNA.and K&N is that as they breath easier they also let a lot more crap into your engine, which is not good for its longevity. And I think dealers here (Germany) would definitely void part of the guarantee if changes like that are made. Other than that, the bike looks and sounds great!
K&N actually filter just as well as OEM don't know about DNA tbh but I'd expect them to be similar to K&N. Ran K&N for years and on high performance engines with no issues at all.
@@MrBulli69 I run DNA filters in my xt660...stages 1+2..stage 1 is the filter,2 the filter and side cover. DNA have been proven to flow more air..I use a K+N filter oil kit to keep the crud outta the engine.

Hey Charlie,, there's lots of people watching your video but you only make one cup of tea. Nice tool set. Your getting there.
Should I make one for every watcher? I do like a cuppa. ☺️
You are wise to keep the original filter (protects the engine best, a different filter could void your warranty. Probably best to refit the original cover before you take the bike in for service (warranty concern). Like your videos - you are a very capable lady🍀
Thank you Ernie. 😊
Yes, I was wondering about the warranty side of things, if changing original parts would make the warranty void. Best to ask an Enfield dealer for his advise I think.
Oh dear Charlie you've started a modifications discussion that will never end....... never!
If you've enjoyed this try an oil change discussion 🤔🙄😂
Paaaahahahaa, I'll get the Popcorn. 🤣
Your bike loves to breath well Charlie, bit like your customers really! Good to see you today …..Cam 💐x
Thanks Cam. Nice to see you at REME 😀 X
@@restdayrider REME?
Sorry, wrong Cam unbelievably! 🤣
Haaaahaha you have as much self discipline as me then! 😊
Good to know. 😐
great clip
Nice video,cool Lady
I bought one and the daft swines sent me two😀😲🤣
I did buy an OBD to reset the damn oil temp light that kept coming on as it thinks it's -40 degrees due to being set to I Dian temperature 😏
@@restdayrider 🤣🤣 yes my Meteor thinks its living in the Punjab and not Belfast🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hi Walt, I agree, for a cheap addition I will take the apparent benefits and be grateful!
How does it run better if it's snatchy on and off the throttle?
I'm thinking the ECU didn't remap, why you often need a special tool to make it relearn.
That's the issue with these little mods like this, these companies throw this crap out. With No research or real world testing or numbers. Because people think they need it, in most cases it's just a money grab.
Great idea for people who don't want to use the filter.
Dna air filter did wonders for my old honda varadero 125.
Best bike for post buy mods and de mods! 😊

I love the color of your meteor, Been riding for 20 years now and love everything on two wheels, I dont feel anything driving the car but I take the long way round on the bike just for the hell of it. much love from Bristol

Exactly that Aly. 😊
Didn't want to trash the original. 😊
Fair enough 👍🏻
(Obviously only works on magnet friendly parts)
Looking forward to the next vid..
Oh THAT'S what it means. 😏
There are many little garage gadgets I suspect I need; I'd like a rolling work surface / tool box .
The dust makes sense actually. 😊
@@restdayrider I'm envying your tank stripe again. Mines a Matt black edition so I might get a gunmetal one.
I'm really not sure, but you definitely don't need the filter as well as the cover. As to whether both is better, I'm not sure.
Good luck Charlie. Hope the DNA filter lives up to the hype. Cheers, Dan ✌️🏍🇨🇦
Hey Charlie. How are you finding the DNA? I've just ordered one with the filter. Have you ridden enough to notice a difference or is Roger getting all the attention? :)
It's good, sounds throaty and maaaaaybe a difference to the pick up at low gears? Maybe? 😊
@@restdayrider Thank you. Charlie That's Cool. Can't wait to see how the Classic responds to it :)
Can you give the code of the ngk iridium sparkplug?
@@timohagedoorn9947 Look on Hitchcocks website.
The difference will be in the induction note rather than the sound of the exhaust. There is little doubt that the engine will breathe easier with that fitted because it looks like the air intake is less restricted than the original. Whether you will notice any difference in peformance, I really don't know. Please let us know? 🙂
Will do 😊
Hi love your videos.
Just a question has your bike ever jerked after about an hour of riding.
As I have the same bike as you a 2022 model ,
And I've found after about an hour of riding the engine jerks couple of times or half a dozen in quick succession like a misfire then it will clear might do it again might not for the rest of the ride.
Have taken it to the dealer no fault codes and they can't find any thing wrong with it.
Hi, no I've not had that problem at all, just 100% smooth riding. 😐

Install a red rooster exhaust if your place permits, without the db killer it sounds fantastic.
Ya it’s worth it it’s a one and done deal. And they come pre oiled so you just put it in and forget it.
quad lock has an anti vibration mount, I cant tell if you have one but if you dont its a must buy. saves your mobile phone camera from getting vibrated to bits
Vibration dampnwr is already fitted. 😁
Hi I got the cover and dna filters on both my bikes the scram 411 and the mk 2 interceptor makes all the difference to make the engine breath better 👍👍🙏
Good to know. 😊
now this is why you would make a Harley rider, we all change air filters, exhausts etc to get better performance and a little more noise, but to get full advantage of the extra air we have to Remap the engine on Harleys, i dont know if this can be done by your Enfield dealer.
A Harley would make a good addition, one day. 😊
In other videos i asked you Does it worth to take a touring seat. U said it does so I did it and i must say it worth. Now i am going to buy this filter 😊. Greetings.
Glad it's a success 😃

Well done, I think I would have just modified the original one with a Stanley knife, just remove the rubber bit, would that work. Trouble with us bikers is we’re always searching after more power. It sounds really nice with and without the mod.
Forma few quid, I saved the original and bought just the cover to see what all the fuss is about. ,,🤣
I think you will find its the air induction sound that changes not the exhaust.
It think is intake noise that people are referring to.
I have 5 different sets of toolboxes/sockets/torx/Allen and the shutting mechanisms all plastic have broken so everytime i use them everything is jumbled. Wish still had metal toolboxes or I wasn’t so clumsy.
Does sound throatier to me?
I think it does too, and a metal top opening box would definitely be an improvement for tools! 😊
Do you know if the fuel economy changed?
Not in the slightest that I'd been able to perceive!
Just bought one for my classic 350 with the filter, I run the same set up on my interceptor 650 as well, good mod, you planned your next trip yet?, 👍

@@restdayrider Looking forward to your next video, can't wait to see if you upgrade your bike, and what you think of the Meteor 350?
I love the 350, next bike will very likely be a side line as opposed to an 'upgrade', and I'm very taken with the Himalayan. 😊
It will increase the induction noise and it will slightly reduce your MPG for a miniscule increase in power. If you want to make it louder go for a new exhaust can. I have an Interceptor with straight through exhausts, my neighbours hate me
Paaahahaha poor neighbours!
Not sure about the filter cover, but tea ….in the old days if the cup was made from poor quality clay, the hot water would break the cup. So putting milk in first took the temperature of the tea down when it was poured.
Makes a lot of sense!

It's often not worth the money, if you get anything it's tiny as in a couple of horsepower.
Hi, charlie.. Mam. Am Suryalakshmi.. Ur fan Girl &subscriber from kerala, india.. Great job.. I like all ur video's.. ❤️
Hi! I do love a Fan Girl 😁
Did you notice any difference when you rode it
Hi another mechanical job done well, It looks to me as if the bore of the intake on this replacement air box cover is a bigger diameter, fortunately your bike is fuel injected and to some degree the fuel management system will compensate for the extra air being drawn in.
Thanks Mike, good tips. 😊

HI, i'll make the same choice: Original filter, with new enter from DNA.
Hi Rest Day Rider , Hello From Australia . i believe the modification does not make any differents to the exhaust sound but at the air in intake it will . all the best , like your video's 👍
The difference in sound will be at the intake not the exhaust.
That actually makes a lot of sense! 😊 (And the tea thing)
@@restdayrider I only put the milk in the cup if I'm using a teapot , but my gran used to frown upon that too ! 🤣 Hope it wasn't a Yorkshire tea teabag you flagrantly abused !
Ummmmmm, maybe, a little bit.
