    Greetings from Northern California! New subscriber,
    I really enjoy your channel Sir. I have been riding a 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan for just over a year now as my only transportation and love it!
    I’m turning 51 in a few weeks and the Himalayan was my first motorcycle, it fits the Backroads of Humboldt County here perfectly. However I am looking at the meteor 350 and your thoughts and videos on it are very helpful, keep up the great work!
    I am very close to getting a second motorcycle and the 350 Meter is a strong contender.
    Thanks again for the great content, I find it to be not only helpful but entertaining as well.

    Hitchcock's RE of the UK, sells a larger touring GIVI windshield. Looks real good to me. Larger and taller than the stock RE shield. Givi also sells saddlebag luggage racks and side hard bags for the Meteor. And a rear luggage rack.

    Concerning screens: The standard RE Touring Screen wold probably be a bit too short for you, if it ever becomes available in the USA. (Can't figure out why it's ok in the rest of the world but not in the US) I'm 5' 11" and I find that the stock Meteor screen is a fraction too short for me, the wind hits me mid face, a bolt on screen extension 4 inches high ($30 eBay) is just enough to push the wind over my helmet. The stock screen is also narrow so body stays dry, arms get wet. :-( The GIVI large screen seems to be a better screen to get. I got a Stellar Red Meteor (more Claret than Red) because I liked the colour and fitted a screen too it. Also shifted the pillion backrest back a couple of inches, made it more comfortabl;e for the passenger. Easy mod to do.

    OMR, I have a luggage rack on my Meteor; it was one of the first things I ordered from Hitchcock's; I also got their tailbag that's made to go with it. It has Velcro straps, so you can remove the bag from the rack. I keep my insurance, registration, and kick stand pad in the zippered compartment. I also carry my cellphone there.
    I have a fly screen on my Meteor. I got it more for looks; since it's dark, it just goes with the blacked out everything on my Fireball Yellow. It takes some wind blast off your upper body, but you won't mistake it for a full screen. It does the most good at 50 mph or slower; after you go above 50-55, you catch most of the wind blast. At least it protects the instrument cluster from bug strikes. Plus, it LOOKS GREAT on the bike! Did I say that already?
    Finally, I tried the big foot pegs, or, as you call them, the mini floor boards. I swapped 'em back out for the stock pegs though. Why? the big pegs just don't play nice with my boots; my riding boots don't interface well with the big pegs. It's hard to rest my feet on them without pressing down on the brake pedal or shift lever. It's also harder to position my feet without looking. SO! I swapped 'em back out for the stock pegs. The stock pegs interface so much better with my boots, so I'm going to leave 'em on. Plus, it's so much easier to position my feet to cover the shifter and the brake pedal. I'm not sure what I should do with the big pegs though...

    Great stuff! I’m currently “restoring” a 42 year old Honda XL250 that I’m planning on doing a cross country ride with. Taller handlebars are a must for us 6’ 2” people. I’m also building a rear rack to hold my gear and saddlebags. I’ve been riding for 47 years and this will be my first cross country ride. I’m going solo because that's how I prefer it.

    I got a Royal Enfield touring screen fitted to my Stellar. It works well for me because I only wear a full face helmet. The wind blast comes out at eye level. My husband, who prefers open face helmets didn't like it much and he'll be leaving his own Meteor naked. It certainly makes cruising at 60 - 70 mph far less tiring for me.

    I want to make a tour this year with the Meteor, for this I have attached two saddlebags á 18 liters.
    As spacers I have bought 2x the original from RE, which are actually only for the right side.
    In one I have the attachment points cut off and rotated 180 ° again welded, so that I can mount it on the left side.
    Fortunately, the windshield is approved in Germany, which saves me the search in the aftermarket.
    In addition, I have mounted the touring seat, which is a big difference to the normal seat.

    Currently I am in France on a slow way to Spain with my Citroen van and the Mash Falcone 125 inside. I stay at each hotel two or three days and drive with the 125 to everything I want to see. Each day is around 150 km and it's easy to park in all those cities, towns, castles and so on. Taking the real local roads and no toll roads, that way you see the real France and talk to the locals.

    •  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like an awesome trip! How do you take the bike and the van? Inside, of flat against the back of the van?

    • @Jay_Speed
      @Jay_Speed 2 года назад +1

      @ It' s commercial van so inside, I carry a alu folding ramp, that makes it easy to push the bike inside. The whole trip was 4500km by van and 600km with the 125. I am back home in Belgium and did a trip to the Eifel mountains in Germany of 700km. I took my Triumph Trident 660 for that one.

    •  2 года назад +1

      @@Jay_Speed makes sense. I once met a guy with a Citroen van, and a Honda transalp mounted to the back. Was making a journey through France. It seemed a heavy bike to take with you like that, but it worked for him.

    • @Jay_Speed
      @Jay_Speed 2 года назад

      @ Yes it's a rather heavy bike. For me it was fine in France, but those mountains in Galicia was a lot for the 125. The city of Compostela de Santiago was no problem, but ones out to the coast at Rianxo was a handfull. For that reason I am looking for a 300 to 400cc bike. KTM 390, the RE classic is to heavy for his HP. Maybe a Honda CB300, found a nice second hand one.

    I agree that a windshield is a functionally positive thing on a long ride, but I've never been a fan of how they look, risers would help with the handle bars, but I know that just a loaner so you wouldn't want to change that up at this point. Saddlebags have become such a used and necessary pat on a bike anymore. Once you get used to them you can't live without them. I like your jacket too. Not as stylish as the old field jacket I used to wear for years but it looks equally as comfortable and functional. As always, stay safe, be happy, remain healthy and enjoy miles of smile. BTW, have you gotten out of the driveway yet? One more thing, is joining the page considered as a Crew too or just petrean?

    Good morning! I did get some saddlebags for the Meteor. One set is from an Indian company from Ebay, (avoid!) The craftsmanship for the metal brackets is pretty shoddy, and I am pretty sure the leather is catskin..lol. But they are mounted and allow me to go to the store. The other set are called Long Riders from Royal Enfield, but throw overs. However, the quality is awesome and they are HUGE. I have the standard Meteor screen. It keeps the rain off a somewhat, but it is a couple of inches too short for me and I'm not that tall (5'8"). The wind noise and buffeting drive me mad, so I use ear plugs on anything other than short town trips.

  • @Danny-ux1il
    @Danny-ux1il 11 дней назад

    Great video. Thank you. I have a Meteor, last year's model, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The stock handle bars are just right for me. I was 5'9" back when I used to ride a Bonneville, in 1968. I have shrunk a little. so I am not sure about how many inches above 5 foot I am. But the seat height is perfect for me, especially when sitting on it and backing out on any kind of grade or on mud. Not sure what you meant about the foot pegs; to me they are okay, just too far forward. So my feet are a little more in front when underneath me would be better. Like bumping over pot hots and speed bumps, I want to press down and lift my weight onto my legs a little for shock-absorbing. This is problematic on the Meteor. I wonder why you have not noticed it. A windshield I have never had. I believe what you say about it keeping a lot of rain off you. A luggage rack and saddle bags of course are necessary add-ons and I have trying to come up with the right ones. RE dealers in Thailand are not concerned do not stock them and are not inclined to bother about getting them for you. A shame. You don't have to make a case for luggage. Everyone knows it is necessary to have your clothes besides tools and air pump and first aid stuff and rain gear.... when going on long rides.
    So my concluding question is what about all this extra weight ? On a bike that is over-weight and under-powered to start with? Maybe at your height and reach you do not have any trouble man-handling the machine over logs and breaks in the pavement at low speed. But does the bike feel heavier to you at slow speed with all this stuff? Accelerating? Breaking from speed, going downhill?
    The only accessory I have on so far is the bracket for the cell phone for the Google Maps. I cannot make the clock thing work to give me maps.
    I have purchased a side panier that is lockable and also a rear carrier thing to hold luggage. But neither is right for the RE. It would take some tools and some time to Mickey-Mouse them onto the bike. And you have to get a big metal framework to hold those saddle bags - which also make the ride wider.
    I know there are high-lift cams available but I am not sure they are worth the expense and trouble to add 7 horsepower.
    I would really appreciate your thoughts on these points.

    I have recently bought a RE Meteor 350 matt black edition. Quite a cool bike however I do have a very small question. Let's say we have certain budget constraints, so what should be the chronological order to purchase riding gears or getting modifications done one by one? • @OlManRonin

      Interesting question, but I suppose first you should consider what your local laws are concerning GEAR. Here in Ohio, the ONLY mandates for motorcycle riding is a valid motorcycle license and protectIive Eyewear. Thats it. So I would say do what you need to be legal, because you can always add to your bike at any time. Cheers

    Hey Ol Man Ronin, I'm from India and I would appreciate it very much if you could get your hands on a Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 or a Thunderbird 500 because that bike was available up until 2018 and I feel like it's the father of the Meteor. I would appreciate your opinion on its performance
