I’ve got the 2020 Wilson launch pad irons and love them! I’m a male and don’t care what people think. I hit them further and straighter than any other iron I tested
@@whodatjt Haven’t had them out on a course yet but I tried them in a session with my Pro at his studio last Friday and we were both impressed. Gapping was good all the way through the set and dispersion front to back and left to right was way better than the unfitted LP clubs I had previously used.
I bought a set of Wilson LP2s and had my first chance to play them yesterday and, IMO, they are transformative. The distances were comparable to my old Ping G20s and, the difference from my last round at this course with the Pings was 17 shots. I'm 73, male, and I seriously doubt my game will ever again improve to where I'll want to play a forged blade set again. (And, if I do, I have several sets of old MacGregor MTs in the garage.) Back in the 1600s, Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill developed a philosophy of Utilitarianism, that something should be judged by its usefulness: the LP2 is highly utilitarian as its results show. Love the look, the feel, the feel at impact, great set of irons.
I’m 55, a 15 handicap with 105 driver SS and I’m using Launchpad 5-7 irons. I put in Dynamic Gold 105 steel shafts (down in weight from stiff s-taper shafts), flattened the lie 2 degrees and these are a blast to hit. I have some cervical spine issues so I don’t do range sessions. These clubs will allow me to swing smooth and get great results, while the lighter shafts will hopefully take some stress off my body. I get irked by the assumption that these clubs are only for beginners, the elderly, women or people with slow swing speeds.
I just bought a set of Wilson LP 2 hybrid irons and they arrived 2 days ago... I hit some balls on the range with them and then went out to play a round... My score dropped by 7 strokes in the first round I played with them... I don't care what people think of what clubs I am playing with, especially when I'm beating them by 10 strokes... 🤣
I have the launch Pad 1 clubs. I love them. A good shot is a good shot, and admired by you and your buds.. No one cares what the club looks like.. One thing this video didn’t speak to is swing speed.. older, slower swing speed golfers need the help.. maybe shes not around many senior golfers…LP2s are not just for beginners or women…great value for the price…
I've watched several youtube reviews of the launchpads.. the clevelands.. and the cobras.. and without exception, the reviewer goes out of his/her way to "qualify" that "these clubs aren't for me." Like there is a stench to them. It's already setting up the viewer to be skeptical about the launchpads. To be fair, the reviewer was really good once it came time to hit the clubs but I might not have framed those irons with the limits she did. I've played with a bunch of people who buy the standard game improvement irons and their iron shots aren't always reliable. They aren't carding 8s and 9s everytime, but not always hitting the green from 140 in either. The average handicap in the US is in the 17-18 range and the majority of golfers that don't hold a handicap probably (on average) would be golfers not as good as the average. My point is that even with the reviewer kind of holding her nose with the launchpads, her metrics (18+ handicap) for who could/should be gaming the launchpad irons are literally over half the golfers on the planet. I guess maybe pro level club reviews should be done by pros and clubs like this should be reviewed by average golfers. My logic (however flawed it may be) is you play the clubs that produce the best in your hands and if you are able to be an 11 handicap with a club like the wilson launchpads where you might be a 12 or 13 with the (insert best selling GI iron from each brand) here, then why would you not play the Launchpads?? Because they look different than what Tiger hits??
When comparing irons, I believe it is more helpful to compare like lofts as best as possible. The Rogue St Max 6 iron is 24.5° Wilson Launchpad II 6 iron is 27° Wilson Launchpad II 5 iron is 24° Probably should've used the Launchpad II 5 iron for this comparison in my opinion.
I couldn’t agree more. Please compare irons of as similar loft as possible, and forget the arbitrary number stamped on the bottom of the club. Honestly, golf companies should just stamp the loft of the club on the bottom and do away with the “club number”. Which is more helpful to the golfer, knowing they are hitting a 28 degree or 32 degree iron, or whatever number is stamped on the bottom? When people ask me what club I just hit, I just tell them the loft amount of the club I just hit. When they say that doesn’t help them, I tell them they need to find out the lofts of their clubs.
Agree. Four degrees loft is the average difference between iron clubs. Comparisons between clubs of different brands should be kept to less than two degrees difference and preferably less.
I agree, started watching and wondered at the difference in distance being hit. Wouldn't it be better to ignore the club number and compare those of similar loft. ie Wilson 5 Iron at 24 degrees to the Rogue 6 Iron at 24.5. As soon as i twigged onto this the comparison had little value in direct comparison, but it did demonstrate the forgiveness of each.
Losing strength at 55..nah..ive been increasing speed from 45 I'm now 55 and driver speed is up to 106 from 97 years ago.. I know guys in there 70s over 100 mph.. Don't be pulled in by poor expectations stay well
I'm a 74yo man and I recently purchased the Tour Edge Hot Launch irons (very similar to the Wilson) and I love them! At this time of my life, I just want golf to be more fun and playing better is more fun! Great video Sophie!
74 and still playing awsome Scott hope your blessed with many more years and many more great golf memories ! Now go out and shoot your age with your new sticks!
Had 3 operations in 4 years....took its toll. Went back to golf, oh dear yuck couldn't hit an iron at all. I'm off 5-6 and boy I struggled.....went for a little lesson and they said try these bad boys 🤣🤣 loved them but the first launch pads. Best things I've ever done, don't care what anybody says but the lad I usually play with was the lad who recommended them 😉
Female Pro's make for better teachers as evidenced here. As a man, we sometimes let our ego's get the better of us instead of learning technical things. Females tend to be more detail oriented. I changed my coach from a man to a gal and she has really helped to improve my game. Not sure why I am posting this info🤣
for a high handicap golfer , the cheaper iron makes more sense to me as I am not out there to win money . LOL . and comparing similar loft irons rather then the number on the bottom of the club would of helped people more IMO .
I got the Mavrik Pro irons after seeing your review of them some time ago and i’m very pleased. Always interesting and entertaining to watch you test new golf equipment. 👍🇸🇪
I felt the launch pads were giving you a guide for your next shot “the rogue “ so inevitably making the “rogue “ look better. But enjoyed your comparison.
Greetings from Northern California, Golfalot. Thanks for your honest and objective evaluation. I'm a senior and you confirmed that the Wilson LP's should be my next irons. I can only hope that you will also evaluate any LP driver/woods from Wilson, as I need help with the heavy lumber too. 🤕
I am a 10 handicap but I don’t get to practice as much as I used to - I was on a business trip recently and after my meeting hit up the local muni course - they had the Callaway rogue irons you tested - I was very pleasantly surprised at how well they played on an extreme windy day - much longer than my normal apex irons - seriously thinking they could help with my consistency since I can’t practice enough to keep my swing as sharp as it should be - lately I shoot 77 one day md then 89 the next - thanks for this helpful review
Love your show but not these irons...Would love to see you do a review on the Wilson Staff D9 forged vs the Mizuno 225 irons, Now these would be great in your hands...Nice play off with Rick Shiels...Great stuff....Thanks
Great work as always Sophie. You're the best in the business IMO, at relating the club to the thought process and skill of that particular player. Which is remarkable given you would have probably only experienced those levels for about 4 weeks in your golfing life. 🤣 Great contribution to Break 75. I'd love to know your score on the day. 👏👍
Unless we know the loft in the of each range, it is meaningless to compare the two brands. The one with the stronger loft will go further and have a lower more penetrating flight. What I want from an iron is a consistent flight and distance ( no flyers) plus be easy to reproduce the shot on demand. The Hybrid-irons look unusual, but are so easy to hit. My only issue is the offset compensation you need to adjust to if you are not a player that slices. I have used both Cleveland HB Launchers and Tour Edge ( Bazookas, HP4, E521) and in my experience, the Clevelands were easier to adapt to. As a senior golfer I am looking to integrate this type of club between my single length irons ( lowest iron I carry is my 33 degree 7 iron) and my 7 wood ( set 20 degrees). I have been using hybrids, but wondering if these hybrid -irons might be a bit more accurate for approach shots in the 150-130 m range shots.
I do have the Callaway Rouge ST MAX OS on my short list. I might try the Wilson too, but not a real fan of the finish and much prefer the look of the Callaway. So I guess looks do matter a little to me. Plus I am more of a mid handicapper so they might not be something I really need yet even though I am a senior golfer with a slower swing speed now. I think if I was going to go with a more hybrid sort of set I would lean toward the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo line. Either way, glad I came across this review. Good comparison of the two clubs and something for me to think about. Well done.
I'm in my early 70s, back fairly recently after a long layoff. Just bought a set of Rogue ST Max OS and love them. I would have bought hybrid irons in spite of looks if they had performed better for me. But they didn't. So keep the Rogue ST Max's on your short list. They sure helped me do better.
@@deanmccormick8070 Thanks Dean. I could not decide and did now want to go in for a full fitting so I picked up a Rogue ST MAX OS 9 iron to test. I got it with the Mitsubishi graphite shaft and it just feels great. The ball jumps of the face so I ended up getting a PW as well. I might get a 7 iron or go from the 8 to hybrids. I have not been able to play yet due to a recent surgery so I'll wait until I can get on the course to decide. I am also a senior golfer (66) and back after a long layoff so looking for some clubs to make the game a little easier and the Rogues irons seem to fit the bill well. Thanks for the comment. Hope you enjoy golfing again my friend.
The Wilson Launchpads look similar to a Cleveland Launcher, Sophie. When I did my full bag fitting last month, the Cleveland was furthest but only by a distance that was less than a club difference in a gap test. So I chose the Taylormade Stealths for the Irons and 5 Hybrid. I like the cleaner look of the Stealth. I wouldn't be able to get on with the Wilson Launchpads. As you say it's a heck of a price difference though. I did try the Callaway in my fitting, but couldn't get it close to the Cleveland or the Taylormade. We are all difference.
So - Sophie - the LP’s would be good for a senior golfer? I have played Acer XDS Widesoles for about 20 years. The Wilson LP is not much wider, but so much lighter with the A flex Project X shaft. I have lost a lot of distance with the Acers XDS irons, for sure
I'm new the game, tennis background so I hit the ball plenty high and far, that's not an issue for me. The real thing I need help with is distance control and reducing left and right dispersion. Can any LP owners confirm they hit straight? I'm thinking about buying a set.
thanks for the very informative review!!!....I am a high handicapper ( 15 ish ) and would like to buy a new set of irons ....can you do a recommendation / review of the best options for a " budget " set of irons available out there .............thanks
There is between 2 to 4 degree difference in loft between the Calloway and the Wilsons sets. PW of Calloway =41, Wilson =44. C8=32, W8=34. No wonder the Calloway is a “club longer”! The conclusions here should read, “Calloway is longer, Wilson hits it higher. All because they are different lofts!”
I am currently playing Wilson D9s and older set of Callaway Xs including hybrid. I wonder if either Launch Pad or Rogue ST Max would be worth switching to.
Recently I did a side by side of my old Callaway X2 Hot irons vs Taylormade Stealth and Wilson Launchpad 2s. Results were 10+ yards longer play with similar dispersion with the Stealth vs X2 Hot, and 15 yard plus longer with tighter dispersion for the Wilson LP2 long irons.
I like your reviews. Your distance and swing speeds are more realistic for the average male weekend golfer.... instead of watching most men on here who can hit the ball 900 yards... lol.. what good does that do us? They should have average golfers testing clubs.
Great review as always Sophie. I have a question if you don't mind replying to. How do the Rogue irons compare to the B21 Big Bertha Irons? Is there a considerable difference?
It seems mental in this day and age that we compare sets with different lofts and judge the distances. Why don’t manufacturers just start labelling all clubs by the loft angle like they’ve started doing with wedges now 🤷🏻♂️
I've got a set of Adams hollow bodied hybrids, but I can get away with it, being a senior golfer. 25 years ago, I used to play to low single digits using bladed and players cavities ie Ben Hogan, titleist and Mizuno. I have lost a lot of clubhead speed and compression and these clubs keep me playing and enjoying the game with decent scores.
Hard to take anyone seriously that is actually bothered by the "look" of a club versus what works best for them in performance. When I got fitted, if the Launch Pad had actually shown the best results and numbers, then they would have been in my bag and I wouldn't have given a single care what anyone else thought. However, the Big Bertha B21's were what was best and what I got.
Great video Sophie. Is there any chance you could compare the original Callaway Mavrik range and the Callaway Mavrik 2022 range, What is the difference? Is it worth upgrading?
Interesting to watch but I went with the Wilson D9 Forged over the Cobra Forged Tec after I watched your review. P.S. What did you score on Rick's Break 75?
Hey Sophie, not going to use these irons but gave you a like because it was a great review. I thought I'd do my own review, Sophie v Rick. Your swing is silky smooth, accuracy off the tee, awesome, greens hit, obviously pro standard, and your short game is second to none. Rick is none of these & the only thing he sort of sneaks ahead is his sense of humour, which you must have with a game like his, but not the quality of the review, you beat him once again, hands down, I really can't believe you don't have the subscribers you deserve. Please post your score against him, strange he didn't reveal it,lol !!!. Keep up the great work, if I am buying anything new, I check your reviews first, kindest regards from a senior golfer.
First.. the callaways are lofted one club differently than the Wilson’s so distance comparison is unfair. One of the tough parts for me when I watch club reviews, far too often the reviewers seem to be holding their nose when they review clubs like the launchpads. “The launchpad I could see a woman playing these clubs.” The difference in price is callaway dumps huge amounts of money into marketing.
She also chunked the callaways twice and grooved the Wilson's every time. That alone should have given the LPs the win. She obviously didnt like the LPs and still hit them high and straight every time. Not sure if its possible for ego golfers to properly review clubs like the LPs
@@jbgtly4930 Most of the people who post these reviews don't have the capacity to think about game improvement clubs without some small amount of disgust. I say this... if golf clubs were originally designed like these wilsons (or the clevelands or cobras) and people were enjoying golf. And then callaway and TM came out with their irons that were less game improvement like what they are selling now, golfers would ask the obvious question... "why are you selling these clubs that don't go any farther or straighter and are somewhat harder to hit?"
Why are so many decent golfers so negative regarding looks . They all genuinely struggle to hide their biases when reviewing new technology clubs with new aesthetics too . I want to see a pro playing their own clubs then the Launchpads for example.
Perhaps if you don't use the phrase " if your not bothered about the stigma" then people wouldn't automatically feel stigmatised for using this type of club. I've got a friend at my club that bought a set last year and his handicap has halved using LPs and taking lessons. He's gone from a 40 handicap to a 20.
I think that these pro golfers should invite 3 different golfers with varying handicaps to make a video to demo these clubs. there is no point in a pro player hitting clubs that are aimed ay mid to high handicappers because their swing is repeatablle and won`t show the benefit of game improvement clubs
The category "GAME IMPROVEMENT IRONS" makes me chuckle. Let's talk about the market share of golfers that really could not give a rats ass about improving OR how about " this set of irons are the hardest to hit on the planet, they are really no fun and will easily raise your GHIN by 5-8 strokes' . But to refer to the Wilson as a "woman's club" is straight up offensive. Yes you have made it clear that your are big shot professional golfer...big deal....but I would suggest you choose your script more carefully OR better yet..quit entirely.

Have you tested the Cleveland Halo Irons ? At 70, 20 plus HC, looking to replace my Mizuno game improvement irons
How would playing these hurt your game as a professional? What couldn't you do with these clubs vs your own clubs?
I’m guessing control and the ability to manipulate your shot.
@@kevinodriscoll3904 Thank you, I'm hardly surprised and glad to hear it.
Great review
I like your reviews. Your distance and swing speeds are more realistic for the average male weekend golfer.... instead of watching most men on here who can hit the ball 900 yards... lol.. what good does that do us? They should have average golfers testing clubs.
Great review as always Sophie. I have a question if you don't mind replying to. How do the Rogue irons compare to the B21 Big Bertha Irons? Is there a considerable difference?
Wouldn't the Callaway Rogue Max OS be a closer comparison?
Callaway Rogue T Max changed my game !
It seems mental in this day and age that we compare sets with different lofts and judge the distances. Why don’t manufacturers just start labelling all clubs by the loft angle like they’ve started doing with wedges now 🤷🏻♂️
Fantastic review ,way best.
Remember the rogue’s are jacked so the wilson’s will be a little shorter
Great video Sophie. Is there any chance you could compare the original Callaway Mavrik range and the Callaway Mavrik 2022 range, What is the difference? Is it worth upgrading?
I don’t think so
I think I'm going to buy a Launch Pad 5 iron. Can't quite play a "normal" 5i, and my 5 hybrid likes to betray me with a hook at the worst time.
Wow what an amazing swing ,keep up the great work sista 😊
I bought a set of Mizuno FliHi hybrid irons, 4-7 irons. They look like mini woods. This is what many golfers need. Too bad Wilson is unpopular in USA
Interesting to watch but I went with the Wilson D9 Forged over the Cobra Forged Tec after I watched your review. P.S. What did you score on Rick's Break 75?
Not a women’s golf club. I use the original LaunchPads and I love them.
Wilson, you could have decorated that 'ledge' on the back of the club with some bling. That'll sell.
Great!!!
The lofts are not the same ,a fair comparison would be wilson 8 iron to. Callaway 9 iron.. callaway is stronger loft..ect.
3:35 and 3:50 Is that a bird?
Why are so many decent golfers so negative regarding looks . They all genuinely struggle to hide their biases when reviewing new technology clubs with new aesthetics too . I want to see a pro playing their own clubs then the Launchpads for example.
Why are these golf videos always filmed in the winter?
better breakdown than the guys do
Perhaps if you don't use the phrase " if your not bothered about the stigma" then people wouldn't automatically feel stigmatised for using this type of club. I've got a friend at my club that bought a set last year and his handicap has halved using LPs and taking lessons. He's gone from a 40 handicap to a 20.
What do you think of the lie of the Callaway?
Great video. I wish you RUclipsrs would stop using the dumbest music though
don't look at the back!
I always giggle when I hear Brits say Texas Scramble. Have never heard it called that in the States. Here it's just a scramble.
More options in UK
I'm a transplanted Canadian over here and I'm giggling with you🤣👏
I’m from Texas and played in a “scramble” this morning. Great fun!
I think that these pro golfers should invite 3 different golfers with varying handicaps to make a video to demo these clubs. there is no point in a pro player hitting clubs that are aimed ay mid to high handicappers because their swing is repeatablle and won`t show the benefit of game improvement clubs
Ehh. Not a great review.
The human mind, stereotypes and paradigms are very difficult to change. It takes decades and generations to accomplish such.
Not true. You took her quote `a woman's club` out of context.
Strong lofts vs traditional lofts. It’s not rocket science why one club was shorter than the other.
