I would like to see a mpg test. I drive a GMC Yukon which is rated 16-20 but I get better than that, I'd say 17-21 or 22. That 10 SPDR transmission makes a difference and In curious to see if mpg might be alittle better than what it is rated.
The Tahoe looks great but the suburban with all that space is so handy. I’ve had my suburban for twenty years and the only problem I’ve had with it was the fuel pump went out and there is a lose solder connection on the digital display causing it to blink off .
Dont know why they didn't mention it in this video but yeah there is going to be a duramax version for the tahoe and suburban. Oh one last thing the Z71 version won't be having the duramax option for it but the others will.

"Extra holes in the exhaust tips for more sound" you mean to cut more noise. You can clearly tell these suvs are tailored to a different crowd compared to the trucks just by the exhaust sound. The suvs are so much quieter.
Saw a Suburban Z71 in GMs Crimson Red...whew! Nice truck! I think GM killed it on the packaging. Definitely tops in the class now. Guess they got tired of hearing how awful it was in the rear quarters, despite still being #1 for years. My only wish was that GM gave the 6.2 more POWA to really make the extra $2500 worth it(it is worth it, but it would be easier to swallow). Maybe 3.5 EB H.O. level power. Other than that, it looks like GM has come to play and secure their dominance in this class.
I am glad somebody at GM came to their senses and got the rear cargo floor back down. My oldest one 2002 has as solid rear axle and a flat rear cargo floor? That’s one reason I still have it, the other is it’s a damn good vehicle.Oh 175m.😃
Second Amendment I was wondering also. Would eliminate the need to buy a diesel truck in addition to a family hauler. My guess with 5 people totaling 750 pounds the mpg would be about 19 mpg combined for Suburbans and 22 mpg combined for the Tahoe.
Payload and towing are limited by the axle size. I.S. front and rear, soft for a nice ride. Need a solid rear axle 2500 model back for real towing power. Same motors and trans in the pick-ups that have higher load and tow numbers.
The GM Truck/Suv should have the 2.7L IL4 with a 10spd 5.3L V8 with a 10spd 6.2L V8 with a 10spd 3.0L Duramax with a 10spd Acrossed the trim line up, no excuses for a company charging 50k-70k a vehicle.
Just bought a 2020 Suburban RST w/the 6.2 at a significant discount, glad I didn't wait for the '21. Not a fan of the styling at all. The only thing I would change about mine is the second and third row room. It would be nice if the second row moved like it does on the '21.
The price is absolutely ridiculous. In order to get the bigger engine you have to get high country and diesel has no availability yet. Wish more common trims/ configurations were being tested.
GM once made city buses, invented the diesel locomotive, made semi trucks, buses for Greyhound and invented the automatic transmission, starter , planned obsolescence, styling and colors other than black. The company made car lines for different incomes; Chevrolet for value, Pontiac for performance, Oldsmobile for business people, Buick primary for upper middle class and doctors and Cadillac for the rich people and GMC trucks and buses.
I seem to remember so much fuss being made about the Ford touch screen not being intergrated into the dash on the Explorer. Now Chevy does it on the Tahoe and Suburban and not a word. Also, I noticed the rear seat screens are hanging from the backseat like an ornament unlike the Expeditions that are intergrated into the seat. Lastly, I heard a lot of fuss about not buying an Expedition because of the turbo V6. Yet, these two new trucks have air suspension, which cannot be bulletproof and is guaranteed to give problems before 100k miles. Just saying guys
Ford goes to its customers for daily usage and design comments and suggestions, GM goes to its engineers. You can clearly see the difference in the direction both are going in their vehicles.
As some have mentioned already the Suburban really needs to be 3/4 ton (2500) whatever you want to call it because the payload is far too low for the way most people I know who buy these things use them. People who buy the Suburban usually do so because they actually need the people hauling and cargo space and they often tow a boat or some ATV's. Heck, the people I know who have Suburbans tow a lot more than anyone I know who isn't in the trades does with heir truck. Anyway, put a 4 to 6 thousand pound boat and trailer, RV or ATV's?PWC's and you're down to somewhere between 800 and 1000 pounds of payload left. Now put five to six people in there (some may argue they are kids but kids can weight a lot before they can drive their own car) and you may not have a pound of payload left for luggage and other needed gear. When you build an SUV this large it should have the capacity to be fully utilized. Sure, people will overload them and not think a thing about it but should it break while overloaded you can bet GM isn't going to warranty the thing. And should you have an accident while overloaded insurance might not cover you. Yep, I know, everyone says wet blanket, dude, until they're stuck paying the bill.
PLEASE test the difference rear axle ratio has on fuel economy. Do an unladen and towing MPG loop to see what kind of reduction in fuel economy a higher ratio has on two similar trucks. The EPA does not rate trucks with different axle ratios separately and it’s common knowledge that the higher the ratio number the worst fuel economy you’ll get but nobody can see exactly how much worse. I want to know when I buy next truck if it’s a significant difference.
@@darens440 the newer ones are known to have lifter failure. My denali needed a new long block at 30k miles changed the oil every 6k full syn. If thats the greatest engine ever.... Im out.
You guys shoot with the GH5 right? Have you looked into micro ISO adjustments mixed with proper frame rate and enabling synchro scan to try and avoid flickering and banding with vehicle lights and displays?
It's a car, not a down payment on a house. The car manufacturers will continue to lose out on rational American consumer money as long as they price like this. I hope the pandemic sees the car dealerships with full lots and low profits.
Lane departure and collision warning will drive you up the wall. I would request turning them off. Been using them at work for a few years now and hate them.
Actually fuel economy is worst than last year 6.2L 2020 vs 6.2L 2021 (-1 mpg hwy)... I guess at that price you can probably afford "refueling at home" services especially since they reduce the fuel tank capacity on both models... 3 gallons less for the Sub & XL and 2 gallons less for the Tahoe & Yukon. On a road trip without too much load they shorten the fuel range by about 80 miles.
Would love to have the high country suburban with the diesel and air suspension. The Banks Derringer will definitely wake 3.0 up more when it comes out.
Other than the rake on the windshield, they dont look bad. The suburban looks much better without the wheel arches cutting into the doors. Space is impressive. As far ad efficiency. What do you want. They are massive heavy machines with old style pushrod v8s. 18 n 16 mpg average is pretty good for 2 giant trucks
Some perspective from a 2007 Tahoe owner. Get the Suburban...LOL I purchased the Tahoe because I loved the looks, I think its proportions are nicer, sporty vs family truckster and didn't think we needed the larger vehicle. But ! With 2 kids and stuff it never seems big enough and forget about cargo with the third row, it's less than a sedan trunk. I do love the truck otherwise.
I dont see the MPGs ever getting much better than what they are. My 01 tahoe got around 20 on the highway with an earlier version of the 5.3l. It is what it is. A large vehicle with an old school pushrod V8 that are easy to work on and not too complicated. They are amazing. They could have a twin turbo v6 but that would just be more things to go wrong.
This is off topic but.... I think the blazer is a great and good looking vehicle but should have been a new gen equinox and then we could have gotten a proper blazer.
The 3.0L diesel sounds interesting. I've got a 91 6.2 Diesel Suburban and an 85 6.2 Diesel Suburban (Both N/A). It's been a long time since diesels were offered in the Suburbans, around 20 years or so? Of course, this has to do with the ridiculous way government classifies emissions. A suburban is classified as a "station wagon". Or at least it was, I'm not sure these days, but the reason still stands. That said, Duraburb does some cool stuff if you want a V8 Duramax.

Definitely would love a diesel version
Seriously....
They are actually coming out with diesel versions
Dont know why they didn't mention it in this video but yeah there is going to be a duramax version for the tahoe and suburban. Its going to be a Duramax 3.0L inline 6 with its beautiful turbo installed. 277HP making I believe around 500 at the wheel. Unfortunately it's a late availability so it would take a little while to come out but it will be soon. Oh one last thing the Z71 version won't be having the duramax option for it but the others will.
They put a metal looking plastic shield on the bottom lol that's very off roading👍 🤣
To be fair.....it does have a steel bash plate under the plastic.
@@Thunderspud thats cool didn't know that 👍
@@Thunderspud To be fair, to break something before you hit protection is absurd.
@@WW-wf8tu I mean...I wasn't defending it. I agree with you. I also don't think anyone is seriously buying a $75k massive SUV to go play in Moab.
Merritt Andrew Creager I agree with you, but be nice knowing your $75,000 rig can play at Moab. Like my F150 has “FX4 OFF ROAD” stickers but came with 20inch rims lmao
10:45 that reaction is worth a million bucks of advertising $ from Chevy. I just loved how Andrei who already knew how big the Suburban is and is still amazed in real life, priceless.10:47 10:47 10:47
Excellent shot of the doors showing the quality of Chevy during the first 10 seconds of the video. Nice GAPS for $75000.
I’m digging the suburban in that trim although I’d take a good ole traditional column shifter any day over these increasingly stupid push button style.
I completely agree! Big, giant truck with a wimpy push button shifter? I hate it!
yeah something about that column shifter makes me feel manly 😂
Almost all the new transmissions are shift by wire now. The days of cable actuated gear selectors are numbered.
@@TNAWWE automatic transmissions are the definition of manly!
geepuller1 if manuals were more popular nowadays, i would say they are manlier
Just bought a 2022 1lt white Suburban on original 22 inch wheels, also haves panoramic roof & 2nd row bench.
2007-2014 was good looking, so was 2000-2006.👌 2015- 2020 was the worst by far, but the 2021 looks fantastic 👏
I will keep my 2017 Sequoia, it almost paid for, thanks Andra & Nathan.
"Extra holes in the exhaust tips for more sound" you mean to cut more noise. You can clearly tell these suvs are tailored to a different crowd compared to the trucks just by the exhaust sound. The suvs are so much quieter.
I wish The Z71 had exposed exhausts. I see why they did that, to free up departure angle, but it would be nice to see those quad exhausts.
I love the new z71 package on the new suburban and Tahoe
I am glad somebody at GM came to their senses and got the rear cargo floor back down. My oldest one 2002 has as solid rear axle and a flat rear cargo floor? That’s one reason I still have it, the other is it’s a damn good vehicle.Oh 175m.😃
Really enjoyed this review. Thanks fellas
Holly cr@p where have you been Nathan? Nice to see you reviewing again.
I wonder what kind of mileage the 3.0 diesel will get and what the payload/towing will be?
Second Amendment I was wondering also. Would eliminate the need to buy a diesel truck in addition to a family hauler. My guess with 5 people totaling 750 pounds the mpg would be about 19 mpg combined for Suburbans and 22 mpg combined for the Tahoe.
That 3.0 diesel so far has proven problematic, at least in the pickup version. I’d steer clear of that lemon...
@@jackchn23 that's not true at all.
Terrence Jones -tell that to this guy: ruclips.net/video/npJwirtc5X0/видео.html
Payload and towing are limited by the axle size. I.S. front and rear, soft for a nice ride. Need a solid rear axle 2500 model back for real towing power. Same motors and trans in the pick-ups that have higher load and tow numbers.
Keep up the great work!
They should offer the 6.2 with the z71. I guess they are sticking with the overall design concept of all show and no go.
Suburban got late a few weeks, I was hoping that it should be available the same time as Tahoe.
The GM Truck/Suv should have the
2.7L IL4 with a 10spd
5.3L V8 with a 10spd
6.2L V8 with a 10spd
3.0L Duramax with a 10spd
Acrossed the trim line up, no excuses for a company charging 50k-70k a vehicle.
Just bought a 2020 Suburban RST w/the 6.2 at a significant discount, glad I didn't wait for the '21. Not a fan of the styling at all. The only thing I would change about mine is the second and third row room. It would be nice if the second row moved like it does on the '21.
That suburban is nice...Nice big truck...there's an 02' across the street here...nice job guys..Thanks☺
$75k for a Tahoe, and $85k for a Suburban, and neither have fog lights. Very disappointing!
The price is absolutely ridiculous. In order to get the bigger engine you have to get high country and diesel has no availability yet. Wish more common trims/ configurations were being tested.
I will never understand how GM was the world’s largest car manufacturer at one time.
Why is that hard to understand and they still are one of the largest car manufacturers in the world
GM once made city buses, invented the diesel locomotive, made semi trucks, buses for Greyhound and invented the automatic transmission, starter , planned obsolescence, styling and colors other than black. The company made car lines for different incomes; Chevrolet for value, Pontiac for performance, Oldsmobile for business people, Buick primary for upper middle class and doctors and Cadillac for the rich people and GMC trucks and buses.
They still sell several million vehicles every year, they sold nearly 8 million last year.
Wrong. Don't make claims without facts.
Shawn Mon
Hell GM rehired the Pontiac Aztec designers..lol
You think that’s ugly, hold my beer!
And how's that working out for Ford, these still out sale the expedition and the Escalade still out sales the Navigator
SDJR INC. don’t think so
The sheet metal on the Tahoe makes it look like it's been sideswiped. The distortion at the lower portion of the doors is terrible
Love what the did but my on;y problem no cooling seats in the middle row Ford Expedition has that
As some have mentioned already the Suburban really needs to be 3/4 ton (2500) whatever you want to call it because the payload is far too low for the way most people I know who buy these things use them.
Not only are the front ends better looking than the Silverado/Sierra, but so are the interiors (including the dash and door panels) too....
as a fellow Weezer fan, I approve of Nathan's shirt, lol.
2021 base 4x4 Tahoe went up $12k Canadian over a 2020 base 4x4, but still running the same ancient engine. Ridiculous.
I am guess you'd rather have a DOHC twin turbo V6?
Lmao ancient engine? It’s the best in class V8, get a Ford for V6
If by ancient engine you mean greatest V8 engine ever? The LS and LT series V8s are the only reason to buy a GM.
@@darens440 the newer ones are known to have lifter failure. My denali needed a new long block at 30k miles changed the oil every 6k full syn. If thats the greatest engine ever.... Im out.
daren s you can say what you want but gm is going down hill and it’s sad. That 5.3 is a turd
That high country is the Cadillac of suburbans that must be the best large luxury car on sale
You guys shoot with the GH5 right? Have you looked into micro ISO adjustments mixed with proper frame rate and enabling synchro scan to try and avoid flickering and banding with vehicle lights and displays?
sounds like work 🤣 I bet each mfg. LED's run at different frequencies.
It's a car, not a down payment on a house. The car manufacturers will continue to lose out on rational American consumer money as long as they price like this. I hope the pandemic sees the car dealerships with full lots and low profits.
the z71 looks great!
Lane departure and collision warning will drive you up the wall. I would request turning them off. Been using them at work for a few years now and hate them.
over 12 years after (lagging behind) Ford you get rear independent suspension, WOW that progress !
can't 'wait' what's next from fiat-gm
Durango has had independent rear suspension since 2011.
But even the Durango from 2004 to 2009 had a more useable 3rd row than the old Tahoe
The Trailblazer Z71 made in Thailand could be a nice addition to the Suburban and Tahoe family, they just have similar front end design.
I can’t wait to see these in the preowned lots.
Keep up the good work!
Love the High Country Suburban, plus the color scheme makes it look amazing and beautiful!
I like to see u do off road review on that z71
i love suburban i like second row bench seat. well if you second row captain chairs you just walk in between seats get to third row.
Some perspective from a 2007 Tahoe owner.
Get the Suburban...LOL
I purchased the Tahoe because I loved the looks, I think its proportions are nicer, sporty vs family truckster and didn't think we needed the larger vehicle. But ! With 2 kids and stuff it never seems big enough and forget about cargo with the third row, it's less than a sedan trunk. I do love the truck otherwise.
Measures 9 inch Z71 badge: "It's 10 inches." That's what you tell all the ladies.
can you read a tape tho?
I dont see the MPGs ever getting much better than what they are. My 01 tahoe got around 20 on the highway with an earlier version of the 5.3l. It is what it is. A large vehicle with an old school pushrod V8 that are easy to work on and not too complicated. They are amazing. They could have a twin turbo v6 but that would just be more things to go wrong.
Crazy how Andre had so much space in the suburban 3rd row
Nice Shirt Nathan 👍
At 12:48, I notice the typical to GM jiggly glass closing. I'm sure that's just the start of the quality problems on these beasts.
Nice Vid. Ya'll should have give a side view video of the Tahoe being lifted
Me and family always buy Chevy and Gmc but lately I been disappointed. Feels like GM doesn't take chances anymore when building best vehicles.
@R Martinez, I think they learned after the Aztec, HHR and the SSR. Now they're just making what the computer program tells them.
Great video as always, now give the Z71 to Stephen!!
Nice to have all those cameras, but do any of them record as a dash cam would in case of an accident
Still no room behind the driver seat. At least the suburban has a cargo area and the hatch glass opening and fast door are nice
Can someone please tell me the name of the song in the background? Great Video by the way, keep up the great work 👍🏾
