That's a big deal with a 2nd row center console or a bench seat, but with the captains chairs, most kids just run through the middle to the rear seat without moving the 2nd row captains chairs. If adults have to get in the 3rd row occasionally with car seats in the second row, the expedition has a huge advantage.

@@plmn93 I’m sorry to hear that. There are some vehicles that have defects when built that cause problems, but you said reliability was ok, I’d compare the f150 to a similar dodge, Toyota, Nissan, from the same year and same trim level. Even GM, while generally a little bit ahead of ford with new technology, has weaker beds, and the technology inside is much more prone to failures. A great example was how quickly GM added wireless charging to their vehicles. You won’t find an original wireless charger from before 2018 in a GM vehicle that still works. They rushed the new feature out either before testing it or they cut corners to make it more affordable, and just like a cheap lightbulb, they’ve burnt out. Carlos, that was an excellent dual review: thorough, thoughtful, well spoken and the clarity came without an overabundance of detail. I've been considering both these SUV's for a possible purchase, had considered neither of them quite suited my missions, and your review was very helpful in confirming my reservations. Thank you.
This review was absolutely outstanding! I told myself..."I'm not about to watch a 20 minute video at 1 o'clock am"... Now I'm writing a comment...🤦🏾♂️..lol Job well done! Unfortunately, this video was like an evenly match tug of war which left me slightly undecided...🤷🏾♂️...but I will say I'm leaning toward that boss Chevy. The height of the 2nd and 3rd row seats is more on the Expedition, thus making it more comfortable for longer trips and bigger people. Even if leg room is comparable, the height of the seats makes a big difference in comfort. The Expedition is superior in this regard.
Expedition all day long .... better drive, quicker acceleration, better towing capacity, better fuel economy, more room in the third row, using the flip up tray more storage space in the rear with the third row up and frankly better looking (I guess the last one is subjective).
Been in the back of both, and sorry the Expedition third row is not bigger or more comfortable. Ride and drive is subjective to the reviewer and having been with both, you purchase the one you like. I prefer the Tahoe, my daughter the Expedition. Both happy and both win
The Expedition rides like a horse cart compared the Tahoe. And they're the same in acceleration. The torque of the Ecoboost gives a placebo effect of being faster than the Tahoe 6.2
@@victoriachanel2493 We've had ours for 7 months and over 6K miles with no issues. It's a first year vehicle and so something could happen. I just picked up a used 2020 Expedition Platinum Max. It is very sharp in the pearly white and white leather interior. I've yet to see any Tahoe look as attractive. I also appreciate the visibility as mentioned in the video. The slightly lower dash and sloping hood is noticeably better than the higher, more squared off front end/hood of the Tahoe.
Thank you for your excellent review. I own a 1999 Tahoe LS. I bought it brand new (ordered it from the factory). It’s been a great vehicle but is now 23 years old and has 236,500 miles on it. Because of its age and high mileage, I decided to rent an SUV for a recent 5,000 mile road trip with friends around the southwest starting in Denver and ending in Tucson. Hertz gave me a 2023 Ford Expedition. Wow, I was very impressed with its performance and gas mileage. I got between 19-24 mpg (amazing for a huge, full size SUV). It’s handling was solid, and responsive. It was very roomy with plenty of interior space for our luggage and gear. A very nice vehicle! I’m now looking to replace my old Tahoe, and may go with an Expedition. But before I make any purchase, I’d like to at least test drive a new Tahoe - though so far, there aren’t any in stock. Again, thank you.
If you have kids that use Car Seats, then the Expedition is the best option because it allows a much easier and wider access to the third row. Even with the kids big bulky car seats, the sliding seats of the Expedition make it a pleasure to access any part of the vehicle.
Love both vehicles and I'm in the market for a full-size SUV to replace my 2008 Ford Expedition Limited with 206,000 hwy miles. To your point, I do not like that most manufacturers have added an unnecessary complication of something as basic as gear shifting? For the sake of emergency driving and as a former military person, the quickness of shifting from Reverse to Drive can be very important in high-stress situations and is far more seamless with the old shifters (either steering column or center console) as opposed to trying to navigate and commit to muscle memory these tiny new buttons and knobs. Hard to change old habits and that is definitely going to be an annoying change I'll have to adjust to. I wish they would provide the option to have the OLD standard shifters for all new SUV's. Otherwise both of these vehicles look amazing and I enjoyed your thorough review very much. Thanks for the level of detail you provided.
Great review! I upgraded from my Explorer to a Tahoe and have NO regrets. We considered the Expedition but simply preferred the aesthetics and technology of the Tahoe. I still drive my explorer because after 8 years it is still reliable and in perfect condition. I love our Ford vehicles so maybe next go round I’ll get the expedition or a navigator 😊 I should mention I have 3 kids from 5-13 years old who all play sports so the interior room has been a game changer
@@joshuasyrtash860 the nissan GTR and the older SUPRAS are turbo 6s and no one has EVER complained about either and are two of the most coveted vehicles on market!
Had one as a loaner while my truck was getting body work done and it sucked. Only has about 9k miles on it too. The trans seemed to always gear hunt on the highway, everytime you let off the throttle the torque converter wpuld unlock so as soon as you pushed it back down the rpms would go up and down. It always shocked me everytime I got out unless I grounded myself to the door jamb first. Went to pass a car on a 2 lane and there was a loud bang, a sound of pins and needles and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with all kinds of transmission shift errors. Had to hit the brakes because it stopped accelerating all together and pull on to the shoulder until we were down to about 30mph and it sorted itself out. Needless to say passing a car on a 2 lane rd was no longer an option.Even though it was a long wheelbase version the second row seats had to be upright or the 3rd row wouldn't fold. A problem we never had on our sequoia, we could have the 2nd row reclined and the 3rd row would still fold. Also like the roll down glass on the sequoia. The steering was terrible too. Felt like it was spring loaded. Always wanted to snap back to the center. Changing lanes you had to hold on and center the wheel yourself because if you didn't it would snap to the center and the whole truck would swerve. When they came out I thought they were nice. We even considered looking at trading the sequoia for one but after driving it, it just made us appreciate the sequoia that much more. Aside from being a little faster and getting about 2mpg better on the highway, the sequoia was a much better vehicle. These new GMs look nice but their ridiculously overpriced.
Seems to me like the Chevy Tahoe is trying to get their people with gimmicks. The expedition just is what it is and it doesn’t lie to you, and it doesn’t seem to be afraid to do the work.
While sitting on the third row seat the visibility towards the sides is very different. On the Expedition you have a much clearer view and feels good. However, on the Tahoe/Suburban the placement and width of the pillar is annoying, you feel like your in a box or tunnel because you really have to turn your head to look outside and it feels somewhat claustrophobic. Having an Expedition my kids that use the 3rd row seat, noted this difference right away and they said they felt the Expedition was much better and confortable.
I've rented both and I agree; they're both very good. The Ecoboost TTV6 is a great roadtrip rig. Just don't expect to save gas over a V8 because it needs large injectors to feed those turbos in boost.
@@AlexN2022 3.5 V6 is not hard to maintain, it's in multiple different Ford products so it's tested and proven and is basically considered one of the best engines for it's category today, it's very reliable as long as you take care of it just as you do any other engine.

It’s crazy how many reviews say that it’s tough to achieve the fuel efficiency with the Expedition 3.5L. My experience has been entirely different. I get about 25 mpg driving up to my lake place.
Ecoboosts are very sensitive to speed, wind, and driving habits. My 2.7 F-150 gets 25 at 60 MPH but struggles to hit 20 at 75 MPH. In fact I often get better mileage around town than I do on the Interstate, which is a first in 30 years of car ownership.
GM typically goes much more conservative on towing stats than Ram and Ford. If you tow a lot I would get the Tahoe with the Diesel engine. Just my opinion
Direct from the video. Tahoe has more engine options (including one more powerful and one more fuel economical than any of the ford engines), Tahoe is more comfortable, handles better and has more space. Also Tahoe has newer and more modern technology. But the Ford won because it's more "simple" with lss engine options, couldn't believe what I was hearing. Skip right to 19:47 to hear the differences and why they chose the Ford.
Hi Carlos, I enjoyed your review of these two SUVs but it would have been really helpful if a reviewer would talk about child seats. How many can you fit, safety features and access. Having third seating that can fit three car seats is important when your a large family. You might be surprised at how few vehicles there are that can do this.
If your kids us Car Seats the Expedition is a much better option because you can access the third row seat just by sliding the seat forward and tilting it, thus giving you a large opening for an adult to jump into the back. On the other hand the Suburban/Tahoe will not allow you to fold or move the seat with enough clearance to jump into the third row. I have an Expedition and 3 kids that use large car seats (2 in the second row + 1 in the third row), we love it. We went to see the Suburban/Tahoe in person but this accessibility is lacking.
That push button shifter is a deal killer for me. I'm not a big fan of rotary shifters, like on the Expedition, but they are far superior to push button shifters.
@@treefity350 As he pointed out at 3:09, it makes going back and forth from drive to reverse needlessly complicated. With a hand lever shifter or a rotary knob you can do it without looking - just turn the knob or pull the lever the appropriate amount of detent clicks and you're where you want to be. You'll always be looking at that push button shifter to see which one you're pushing (or pulling).
@@StephenPaul1160 if you can't figure out how to press some buttons I'm not sure how one would have the mental fortitude to reach a level of income allowing them to afford a $80k SUV and I find that worrying that I share the road with those individuals.
I've been in both and I'm not sure which I preferred. In terms of the seats, I thought the leather quality was better in the Tahoe, but the Expedition's seats were slightly more comfortable for me (6"2, 200 pounds).
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.
@@iggy-pg6gq "A report from JP Morgan says that GMC’s Denali sub-brand generates $6.4 billion in revenue. That’s more than Land Rover and close to Audi. And we’re just talking about a trim line, not the entire GMC lineup." Autoline.
With the expedition it feels like you’re driving on air! Nice and simple comfortable interior… The Tahoe has flash and styling … but if you’re on a road trip it’s Expedition - King of the road! Just sit back… relax … and enjoy that ride!
I have been a Toyota guy for many years and I have never owned a Ford until this year, and they made a believer out of me. I quit buying or even looking at any thing GM when they took the Government buyout back in 2009.
The ride in the new Tahoe, Yukon, and Cadillac versions are light years ahead of the old versions they replaced, as well as the new Lincoln and Ford Expedition models.... This review mentions it, but don't over look it without taking these 2 competitors out for a spin... Not even in the same league.... Hopefully Ford ups there came to bring more competition to the game, then we all win....
I was with you until you threw Lincoln in there. Personally I don’t think the new Tahoe rides better than the Navigator. However, if I was buying a full size SUV right now I’d choose the High Country Suburban 8cyl.
Both are very nice vehicles and both are way too expensive for a bunch of electrical gimmicks that do nothing to enhance the driving experience. I’ve owned Suburbans for 25 plus years and this particular Ford in the EXT version was extremely powerful and comfortable. The drawback is the hideous mileage the V-6 gets rolling down the roads at 80mph with a full compartment of people and junk. I fully expected 18-20 but only achieved 16. Next on my list was a 21’ Suburban for the next trip. 5.3 with the 10 speed. Very comfortable, very powerful and much better handling. The mileage was a complete surprise. 22 all day long on the same road with the same load. I really wanted to test the diesel but these don’t exist in rental fleets. I certainly couldn’t find one. At the end of the day, I opted for the 2020 suburban. I did give up some handling and electrical gimmicks that do nothing for me. It has a key, column shifter attached to the tried and true 6l80 and the damn engine doesn’t shut off when you stop. (Although the 21’ was seamless when it did turn off and on.) I also saved 15k over the 21’ model. I was fortunate to purchase one before the market went nuts along with the prices and lack of availability of anything. Given this I would probably go with the 20’ suburban again. I did have an opportunity to drive the diesel, which was somewhat disappointing from a power standpoint and the mileage was only 25 mpg, no load, sea level driving with freeway traffic. Certainly not worth the premium cost for diesel that should get at least 28 mpg. Considering it’s a relatively new platform and being a late model GM product, I was never a real consideration.
Why doesn't GM include a rest rest in the middle seat of the 3rd row? They do that even for the Cadillac sedans. Shouldn't every seat include a head rest? Mind blowing 🤯. Great review though!
My grandma’s station wagon had a push button shifter. And the speedometer changed colors as the speed changed. She totaled it with my brother and I in the car.
At these prices these vehicles better be uber reliable. All I know is my 2001 expedition still drives like the day I bought it new in 2000 and she has 300,000 miles. All original driveline, zero problems, zero leaks. Only routine maintenance, rebuilt front suspension and 1 AC compressor over 24+ years. I think I got my moneys worth.
The Expedition has a slight edge? Did this guy even listen to his own review? The Tahoe had everything but the towing! Long term reliability will be much better with a Chevy V8 too. It's crazy some peoples bias toward Ford trucks. If the two were flipped and the Chevy offered old styling and tech like that you wouldn't here the end of it!
The Expedition will have the edge in the "reliabilty" department, when the Tahoe's electronics, transmission, and air conditioner starts malfunctioning/not functioning.
Yes this would be nice. I've watched a lot of review videos and they're always the most expensive top of the line trim and models. Most people aren't buying the limited editions! I'd really like to see a review for the rest of us who just want the base to mid models.
Bot a limited expo So good Came out of older Tahoe Put my beast in sport mode Blow doors off Tahoe Including high county Tight steering Amazing upshifts Better tranny, gearing, chassis by gar
For large SUV's like these you want good visibility, this includes the visibility through your rear view mirrors. The Tahoe/Suburban has a small mirror even though the mirror housing is large. If you notice GM put a wide frame around the mirror to fill this gap - pointless and useless, they should have made the mirror bigger to fit the mirror housing. The Expedition on the other hand has a much larger mirror that gives you a better view of the vehicle and your surroundings. Better visibility makes for safer driving, and is even more important when hauling a trailer - bigger mirrors on the Expedition are better.
Tahoe Towing isn’t gonna be the deal breaker for me and when dropping this much $$ on a car, the newer tech stands out. If you need the more simple expedition I’d be looking at an f150 instead (but then of course you’ll have to boot 2 of your kids)
Where both of these expensive SUV's fall short is that there is no interior out of sight storage for any small air compressor, tool box, especially in the back tail gate section area.
@@Jasch131, gimmick??? You obviously don’t live in the rust belt! Frames are thicker and last much longer than steal bodies!!! Keep them clean and they will last an owners lifetime! The Turbocharged engine on the Expedition does great towing our boat and other trailers, it has great torque - power - acceleration - fuel economy. It is an excellent power train for daily driving as well as for your weekend adventures hauling your boat or toys. I find the power and performance of the Expedition very satisfying for any application. It is quick to respond and makes this large SUV feel like a much smaller sports car. You cant compare the Ford EcoBoost engine with the Chevy Duramax because they are different categories - a diesel engine will always make more torque. But comparing the Ford EcoBoost engine vs. Chevy's 5.3 or 6.2, I think it feels stronger and much quicker to respond. Note: I've owned both Chevy Suburban with the 5.3 and Ford's Expedition with the EcoBoost Engine.
18:00 You mention that Expedition's soft seats do not cushion bumps. Late last year I drove cross country in Expedition, 3,000 miles in 4 days. At the end of the fourth day it was just was comfortable as on day 1, and I crossed some crappy roads. My impression from the Tahoe was that the side bolstering was too firm, and I did not understand why. In any case, I liked them both in my own trials, but I would give comfort to Expedition.

Personally, I'm a little gun shy with GM products right now. I have an older Suburban and it's not been a good experience, I'm going to replace soon. What matters to me is which one is the most reliable.

Hey Carlos! I've been watching you for years & you're aging beautifully like the Motorweek guy.

I love my 21 Expedition max
You are very thorough. Probably the best review for these 2 cars.
Seems to me like the Chevy Tahoe is trying to get their people with gimmicks. The expedition just is what it is and it doesn’t lie to you, and it doesn’t seem to be afraid to do the work.
I hate when vehicles lie to me!!
Thank you for sharing this. These are the little things that are hard to learn before a purchase.

The Ecoboost TTV6 is a great roadtrip rig.

Expedition is nice but not a fan of turbo V6. I have the 04 Ford Expedition 5.4 3v still going strong 💪
Tahoe interior probably nicer, but I preferred driving the Expedition, which didn’t feel quite as cumbersome to maneuver (even MAX vs. regular Tahoe).
The Ford Expedition looks better to Me but, I am a biased Ford Owner🤷🏽♂️
Towing capacity is a very important factor so the ford expedition is my 🏆to me and my family
Hi Carlos,
I enjoyed your review of these two SUVs but it would have been really helpful if a reviewer would talk about child seats. How many can you fit, safety features and access. Having third seating that can fit three car seats is important when your a large family. You might be surprised at how few vehicles there are that can do this.
Great suggestion! I agree!
I like the ford expedition l have one here in the uk 🇬🇧
That push button shifter is a deal killer for me. I'm not a big fan of rotary shifters, like on the Expedition, but they are far superior to push button shifters.
What's the problem with push button shifter?
@@treefity350 As he pointed out at 3:09, it makes going back and forth from drive to reverse needlessly complicated. With a hand lever shifter or a rotary knob you can do it without looking - just turn the knob or pull the lever the appropriate amount of detent clicks and you're where you want to be. You'll always be looking at that push button shifter to see which one you're pushing (or pulling).

Which Chevy dealer do you work for?
It's the expedition for me since it's familiar to the F-150
So, do the new Tahoes still have lifter issues?
2WD Tahoe with diesel for me. I won’t be buying one anytime soon but that would be my choice.
buy it with 4wd because that duramax can burn rubber lol

For large SUV's like these you want good visibility, this includes the visibility through your rear view mirrors.
The Tahoe/Suburban has a small mirror even though the mirror housing is large. If you notice GM put a wide frame around the mirror to fill this gap - pointless and useless, they should have made the mirror bigger to fit the mirror housing.
The Expedition on the other hand has a much larger mirror that gives you a better view of the vehicle and your surroundings. Better visibility makes for safer driving, and is even more important when hauling a trailer - bigger mirrors on the Expedition are better.

Towing isn’t gonna be the deal breaker for me and when dropping this much $$ on a car, the newer tech stands out. If you need the more simple expedition I’d be looking at an f150 instead (but then of course you’ll have to boot 2 of your kids)
