ben jackson here’s where I’ll disagree and why: those are weight distribution hitches. They are a must especially when towing a lot of weight. Otherwise you’ll get major sag on the rear due to the heavy tongue. It’s rare that I come across someone towing a travel trailer without one. So no, they are doing it right. It’s what I use with my 2019 Expedition and camper trailer.
I'd probably dock a point or 2 for having button shifters. It should be on the column. The cargo area looked great,To me it seemed a good looking video. I like that they kept the square functional design and didn't mess up the cargo area. The shifter would probably be my main compliant.
The only problem with those high-tech shocks is that GM will discontinue the parts in 10 years and then you won't be able to fix it and you have to go back to traditional
With trucks being so popular (I've got mine) you should evaluate how it (if it does) fit in a typical home garage. You could give it points for fitting in a garage and being able to close the garage door. And you could take points away if it doesn't fit!
I was the opposite with the last gen Tahoe/Suburban just because the Ford had more features and independent suspension. But now the Chevy has those so the Ford is in 2nd place. As far as trucks go its Chevy all the way, screw that ecoboom crap. Its fine for an SUV that won't be used for towing that often but not for a truck.
Fact: 90 percent of people buying these SUVs are not going to tow anything or go of road. They are just gonna drive around sucking down gas like crazy.
Plenty of Suburban owners use their SUV for their intended utility purposes. In fact, over 50% of full-size SUV owners value them for towing and hauling along with regularly carrying their passengers and all of their gear.
New suburban shave come a long way, and the seats are comfy and supportive, but wait till you take a road trip in those stuff sporty seats. Then you wanna jump back a couple generations into the 2003-2006 GMT800s, those were like couches.
@Jack Benton I know! Why did everybody have to complain about the column shifter??? That is definitely the best way to go. Out of the way, but extremely easy to use.
They ditched the shift cable like everyone else. Shift by wire is the new norm. Sucks when the battery is toast and you need to push the vehicle. Hope they put in a release cable like Chrysler.
Yup, not neccesarily a ford guy but paid for are the best ones. Even if ylu have to drop a few grand to fix somethinf still way cheaper than committing to 5 to 7 years of 700 plus monthly payments. I like ford pre 1997
We have a sequoia and love it, but that excursion is definitely the king of suvs when it comes to towing and hauling, and it doesn't do too bad on fuel with the powerstroke.
@Jack Benton It's a 3/4 ton and you mean those half ton that are the size of old 3/4 and 1 tons? Yeah imagine that a vehicle 20 years newer and much bigger is better at doing stuff, crazy right.
@@WhoThisGuy515 Those new models can't do the job that the 3/4 ton Suburban and Excursion could do. Along with the $80,000 price of the Suburban 3500 designed for Armored vehicle companies that is the reason why fire departments are using HD pickups with camper tops for supervisor vehicle's.
I Love the Chevy Suburban as my mother has a 2008 Chevy suburban and i love what it has i rate all suburbans a 10/10 exterior and interior it is a great family car but as it starts around 80k+ wich is kinda of expensive compared to the Escalade but chevy cars also are heavy duty and very hard working! And they are really cool to research and always come with new things unlike apple and takes REALLY REALLY Little steps (don't ask why i research these cars i like cars and mostly suburbans)
Corbin Swisher yep the Suburban 2500 had the option of a 454 or 6.5 V8 diesel. From 1999-2005 the Suburban 2500 came with the Vortec 6.0 or 8.1. After about 2006 it only came with the 6.0 until about 2014 when the 2500 was dropped.
The 2016-2019 Suburban HD was 3500 with the upgraded axle and brakes. The lack of 2015 Suburban HD coincided with the model redesign. I wouldn't be surprised if they come back with the Suburban HD a couple years after this redesign too.
I get tired of hearing about the trailer brake controller placement. The left is better for two reasons. When you drive with one hand, the left one is usually free. There is usually less stuff to get in the way when it's on the left.
When I drive one handed it's usually with my left hand. I guess everyone is different and auto manufacturers can't make everyone happy. Sometimes they do what I want, and sometimes they don't. lol.
exactly!!!! most people are right handed..Meaning they usually have their right hand on the wheel, leaving their left hand not in use!... so really it's not in the wrong spot if you think about it... as you said, left is over all better!
Great video! I'd like to see a video pulling a travel trailer. In the real world suburban are for family which go camping. See if you can do a video with a travel trailer with a suburban.
Hey guys, I watched your suburban Ike test and saw something that may or may not change your test results? When you did the interview sound test, you had the Panama sun shade wide open. For grins and giggles do the test with the shade closed to see if there is a difference and if so, do all of your vehicle testing with the shade in the same position. Thanks, Ron
TFL! Add a chart of all the scores and where the certain vehicle being tested is placed compared to others! Similar to the Doug score that way we can see where each car ranks! Just a thought
Its a beatifull car, i have allways loved the Suburban. And its even better now, when they learned from, Fiat chrysler, Air suspention, and a nice interior, almost as nice as my Bighorn.
@10:28 if you are right handed then being on left would be better since if you have to emergency brake then your dominate strong hand is still on the wheel. No real wrong place for it as long as its easy to get to. "take 1 point off for brake controler" ....... that is personal preference just cause you don't like it there shouldn't be reason to take off.
It’s so weird because when they first started doing these reviews I remember they had a truck where the break controller was on the right side and they complained that they didn’t like it on that side.
I dont know why you would want the brake controller on the right? If your right handed, your right hand should be on the wheel and left can squeeze. Idk I like it on the left
So you would want to look down, taking eyes off the road just for the convenience of small motor controls in your hand? Sorry, but if im squeezing it doesn't have to be precise just enough to control the sway of the truck. Plus the brakes work with the brake pedal, if your swaying you might be in over your head already.
Many of us are now purchasing smaller trailers in the 3,000 to 4,500 lb travel trailers but like the convenience of a SUV . Can you do the tow test for some of the common SUVs? Explorer, Kia, Toyota, Nissan, Jeep, Durango - non body on frame units.
I would have liked to have seen how wide and long it is. Basically can you fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back with all the seats down?? Also they need to make tow mirrors for it or have aftermarket ones available
So many great vehicles in the market that are chock-full of features. They're awesome, as long as everything is working. THAT is what the problem seems to be these days. So many breakdowns and recalls across all the brands. The manufacturers keep piling on so many frills and gee whiz features that are prone to fail.
It’s a trailer brake controller! Set it correctly when you pull off with the trailer or drop off/pickup a load. and you shouldn’t need to change anything. Probly why they had to hit the brakes so many extra times
When you are driving multiple vehicles I can see where standardization of some controls would be a benefit. Once you are use to it no big deal. Remember when Ford put the horn button on the end of the signal light stalk. Absolutely hated it at first, once I got use to it best place for it. Using the 3/9 hand position on the wheel just meant tapping the stalk. Great location. Unfortunately the whiners got it changed. One think I would like to know is can you pick a gear in the automatic and hold it? Use to driving standards in trucks and going down hill would pick a gear that I know would hold the speed I want and go with it. One of the reasons I prefer standards or the dual clutch auto's where you can pick the gear.
Love that gm is still sticking with v8's. I love the navigator and expeditions but turbos..... well its just one more expensive thing to go wrong. If i could afford any it would be a very tough decision lol.
You gotta do the 2021 Tahoe/Suburban Z71... I love the Z71 trim style, its beautiful. Also, GM needs to redesign the silverado for 2021... the 2020 model wasn’t my cup of tea. They tried to be too flashy and different with the silverado this year and im not a fan of it. You basically need to get the 2020 silverado in its highest trim (high country) for it to look good, and I think thats a bad decision...
"its not telling me what gear i am in" Knowing that is kinda one those "aww cool" for about 1 week then after that no one even pays attention to it anymore or even cares.
It matters when you tow. Especially when the transmission has three or four overdrive gears and you're in a situation exactly like this test. Do you want to manually turn off the overdrive or is the computer handling it fine?
@@codeman99-dev If the computer isn't handling it fine, all you have to do is manually tell it to downshift. If the RPMs are still too low, tell it to downshift again. What number of gear you are downshifting into doesn't matter at all. The only thing that matters is if the transmission is keeping the engine in the RPM range you want it to be in.
I dont need to know the gear if it has a tach. Of course now days with 9 and 10 speed transmissions its kinda nice but unnecessary to have an indicator.
Brake controller on the left makes more sense forme. Its on the side of all the vehicles specific controls leaving center for cabin controls. Its cleaner and I have a left hand ...so i can operaste it on that side no problem.

I'd third this! Let's tow travel trailers and 5th wheels...
Agreed more people have campers than horses that would be cool
Also maybe instead of using those big fancy hitches they should just use a normal tow hitch that most people will be using.
ben jackson here’s where I’ll disagree and why: those are weight distribution hitches. They are a must especially when towing a lot of weight. Otherwise you’ll get major sag on the rear due to the heavy tongue. It’s rare that I come across someone towing a travel trailer without one. So no, they are doing it right. It’s what I use with my 2019 Expedition and camper trailer.
The front end looks WAY better than either the Silverado or Sierra pickups. The interior/dash is a vast improvement too!
The front end is almost exactly the same....
And they're quite exp expensive!
And the warranty expires soon into its lifespan
@@nosliwttam77 and will be engineer to fail outside the warranty and it will cost you $1,000 each
With trucks being so popular (I've got mine) you should evaluate how it (if it does) fit in a typical home garage. You could give it points for fitting in a garage and being able to close the garage door. And you could take points away if it doesn't fit!
I like the Andre and Mr Truck episodes the best. It doesn't matter that it seems like they're fighting off camera.
I love the look of that big truck.
Cant wait until they test the diesel suburban!
What a way to start a Monday with an Ike run!
10:18 The large bezel makes it easier to put in heating components. In this cases, ease does mean reduced cost.
Always was a fan and still is
For trucks I’d go with ford but for suv I’d love one of these or the Tahoes. Of course I don’t have money for any of them 😂
One day brother, keep saving
Yep. But you're the bad guy for pointing it out "cuz ur jealous you can't afford one" lol
@@jldude84 they can afford one but they can afford a health care plan
And? Their money their decision…
New suburban shave come a long way, and the seats are comfy and supportive, but wait till you take a road trip in those stuff sporty seats. Then you wanna jump back a couple generations into the 2003-2006 GMT800s, those were like couches.
Any rumors of bringing back the 3/4 ton Suburban? The extra payload would sure be great.
That push-button transmission is the strangest thing I've ever seen.
Chrysler put out the first push-button transmissions all of the way back in the 1950's! As weird as they look, they've been around awhile now..
@@Hiluxtaco True, but this one, you hook your finger in and PULL on the switch. It's not a true push button. More like a switch.
@@nosliwttam77 You can still do a column shifter with a wire setup. Just switches instead of linkage.
Any TFL video without Tommy gets a thumbs up from me!
Wish i had some spare money to buy this as a family weekend vehicle, sure looks comfortable
Only 80 thousand dollars. No big deal.
If ~$60,000 is "spare money" you could maybe sell your other summer house?
I'll keep my Excursion...tows 11k, 44 gallon tank.....and it's PAID FOR
Yup, not neccesarily a ford guy but paid for are the best ones.
Yeah imagine that a vehicle 20 years newer and much bigger is better at doing stuff, crazy right.
cody roland good point and in addition there are relatively very few bumper pull trailers over 11k lbs GVWR.
That little funny compartment above Hazzard button is for sun glasses
This is a lot better than their truck counterparts which means they have a better interior and luxurious ride which improves it for 2021.
I still want an HD Suburban 😡
They have never done that before and they r not planning for an HD version in the future
@@corbinswisher5590 Yes they have. It was the 3/4 ton Suburban or later the Suburban 2500.
@@corbinswisher5590 yeah i own one
Unless you are used to jammin gears with your right hand then even right handed folks used there left hand on wheel.
@@SIRLALDROID I'll give you that one. Sadly I think there is only one truck left offering a manual? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Great video! I'd like to see a video pulling a travel trailer. In the real world suburban are for family which go camping. See if you can do a video with a travel trailer with a suburban.
Love the classic Ike gauntlet intro music 🎶
It throws me off every time i hear it cause thats the intro music for Off The Ranch.
Nice! Loyal Suburban owner, but the price is out of sight for me.
Love that Suburban
Hey guys, I watched your suburban Ike test and saw something that may or may not change your test results? When you did the interview sound test, you had the Panama sun shade wide open. For grins and giggles do the test with the shade closed to see if there is a difference and if so, do all of your vehicle testing with the shade in the same position.
Thanks, Ron
TFL! Add a chart of all the scores and where the certain vehicle being tested is placed compared to others! Similar to the Doug score that way we can see where each car ranks! Just a thought
New Suburban is awesome, especially with the 6.2 L.
Gm .. 🙄❓Brake controller 😭left side , 🕵🏼♀️
Great Work boys
It’s so weird because when they first started doing these reviews I remember they had a truck where the break controller was on the right side and they complained that they didn’t like it on that side.
@@calebrod3294 Never complained about it on the right side
These trucks have gotten so good if that’s the biggest complaint
@@noahmcclure2515 Agreed
Right handlers... bite me!!! 😂 Great review, thanks for doing these men.
Man that interior is nice. The Silverado is underwealming, and the Sierra is not much better. But this, I like.
@thefastlanetruck can you guys do an Ike run with a diesel surburban? Would be nice to see a direct comparison to the gas v8. Love your videos! Thanks
Thanks. Just the summary of changes I was looking for.
got captain seats no need to fold seats get to third row. nice suburban 👍👍
Love these videos
Who cares about the break controller being in the left??? It’s really not that big of a deal as you guys always make it! ???
yeah ik atleast its there lol
Beautiful, high quality trailer.
I love my 09 2500 suburban 7 passenger plus 7 thousand pounds on the trailer still very power full
Thank you for sharing great content !
I would have liked to have seen how wide and long it is. Basically can you fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back with all the seats down??
Also they need to make tow mirrors for it or have aftermarket ones available
They’d likely be able to tow as 1500’s, unless built on the heavy duty truck’s frame.
So many great vehicles in the market that are chock-full of features. They're awesome, as long as everything is working. THAT is what the problem seems to be these days. So many breakdowns and recalls across all the brands. The manufacturers keep piling on so many frills and gee whiz features that are prone to fail.
Nice I just ordered the rear bumper on Friday
It’s a trailer brake controller! Set it correctly when you pull off with the trailer or drop off/pickup a load. and you shouldn’t need to change anything. Probly why they had to hit the brakes so many extra times
More ike action! Love it. Will Ford be providing press vehicles again or are they still mad about the Bronco?
Expy is still the king of SUVs when it comes to the Ike test. It scored an 86.
i rate it 100. But that is me and my opinion so.
2 points off for the mirrors c’mon Mann. I will understand one point but 2, mr truck is outta control.
Excited to see the upcoming 3L Turbo Diesel. Could be a possible replacement for my GL350.
@@Nathan_King and if there is no manual mode?
@@codeman99-dev then that's a whole different problem all together. We were talking about not displaying what gear the transmission is using.
I dont need to know the gear if it has a tach. Of course now days with 9 and 10 speed transmissions its kinda nice but unnecessary to have an indicator.
Very nice looking redesign. I really hope they move that interior design over to the trucks....I’d have a Sierra in a heartbeat.
I love your channel
Brake controller on the left makes more sense forme. Its on the side of all the vehicles specific controls leaving center for cabin controls. Its cleaner and I have a left hand ...so i can operaste it on that side no problem.
Looking good Kent! 👍The diet seems to be working.
