I have been seriously considering having a tiny house built on a 48' gooseneck, with a garage in back for a car. The SC7 is exactly what I would use to tow it . Great informative vid. Thanx.
❤ 😂. I fell in love with this truck at the show. I already run an M2 in my Super C, but my wife would not let me buy this as my everyday driver! Good video, safe travels.
We love our Sportchassis. Best truck we have had and i will not be going back to a 1 ton for a tow rig.
These are also very popular with the horse community where triple axle and 25K+ trailers are very common. Have you done any videos with horse trailers and the construction differences vs RV’s?
@@akun24 ooo! That would be very interesting!
The difference is astonishing 😂 an RV behind one of these is a sure way to tear up the RV frame.
@bigtruckbigrv If you're interested, I live near Blanco and have a Gooseneck with what they call a weekender set up. It's a newer 4-star and I pull it with an F-350 DRW.
@@newenglandrvadventures I own a 2021 L5 Onyx edition and have the air ride 5th wheel hitch. I is much easier on my toy hauler thyme 3500 dually….les shock and jarring being transferred from truck to trailer.
@@jeffreyhanks551 I bet, on my way to Canada last fall there was a brand spanking new Brinkley on a freightliner cascadia on i90. We were behind them for a good bit. The front fell down and they pulled over, we pulled over too. The freaking bolts on the pin box sheared off and the plates the pin box gets bolted to was pushed in. The thing got caught in one on the crossmembers and luckily didn’t come detached.the frames are flexing with trucks that have plenty of suspension give I couldn’t imagine it on a real HD truck. Horse trailers and goosenecks are on a completely different category as far as build quality goes.
O lol , you know JD started drooling all himself when he spotted those big trucks and couldn't help himself, it's a Big Truck !!! Probably ran over and hugged it
been waiting for this for a while now
Imagine if the rear was a mini sleeper cab! 🔥
Now you need to go look at Schwalbe Trucks. They make the M2 Freightliners look like 1/2 tons.
I worked at a trailer dealership that the customers would leave the truck and trailer with us (plus the dealership would sell used ones) of both Sport Chassis and Schwalbe and I would have to move them around. One thing I found interesting is the difference in how the auto transmissions between the 2 styles worked (Sport had Allison vs Schwalbe ZF), just putting it in gear. Put the Allison in gear and if you had to apply more brake pedal as it would start to push through the brake and you would have to ride the brake more to move slow. The ZF, you could barely tell it went in gear until a little throttle was applied.
Great video JD! Yes, you should get one. Then you could convince your wife to trade in the Brookstone for a Luxe, and do some medium duty towing for your viewers!
Cool video!
Great information JD. I park my F450 way out in the parking lots for the ease of parking and to avoid those who don't care about opening their doors and hitting my truck. Definitely the way to go if your Dually Pickup runs out of payload capacity. Wondering if these trucks run rear air ride? I would assume so but that wasn't discussed in the video.
Once again, epic timing. Daydreaming about a 3 axle Riverstone and while our '20 F350 DWR should be able to handle the weight, that Riverstone is MUCH larger than our Chaparral, which made do some light looking at a medium duty truck. Great vid.
As we are retired truckers, we are definitely interested.
Check out the HDT RV route.
Beautiful truck I would love to take that black one home.
Great interview and information.
I was considering one of these with an extended bed. The idea was/is with the right vehicle, I could put a whole car up there and still bumper pull a 32' toy hauler. with my off road stuff in it.
Their's another RUclips channel that's pretty popular and they carry a small car (Mini or Fiat maybe) on the back and have a 5th wheel, but they also use a full size semi tractor I believe.
@@gulfsouth6231 would you know what that channel is?
@ I'm looking to modify a semi to have a full SUV onboard and bumper pull a ToyHauler with living quarters. Perhaps I have something custom made by space Craft as you mention, or maybe one of the Grand Design's like the Momentum 27G will suffice. I'm presently looking, weighing costs/application and working through some things. I appreciate your commentary because the more examples I get, the closer I get to knowing what's possible/feasible and probable costs...
Might be thinking about Big Truck Big Travels. They use a Volvo with a Smart Car on back and pull a Spacecraft.
Beautiful vehicles. Wonder what types of warranties they come with. Assuming they have to be services at truck dealerships. Brian was great. Love these products.
This is my favorite truck !!! But so freaking expensive !!! I'd buy a full semi for half the price.
please get one and compare the daily use and campsite friendliness of it vs your 450... MANY people want to know!
This is just as camp site friendly as my dually was. I have owned mine for 2 yrs and put about 30000 miles on it. I use it as a daily from time to time although it is primarily to pull my toy hauler.
@jeffreyhanks551 I want one so bad to pull a toy hauler... We can afford it. I might go for it.
@@QuadTap You play video games in mom's basement. Give it up.
Many are just a tiny bit longer than a 450. You’d need a big block to get more power and torque than the 450, but the ride quality, safety, and performance is far better in my opinion. Duallies will beat you up going down the road, compared to the air ride cab, suspension, seats that a sportchassis has. Been researching for years.
Not trying to promote another channel by any means but go check out TFL Trucks. They did a comparison between one of these and a GMC dually
I live 10 miles from this place. Nice facilities.
I'm a truck driver and I want one of these when I retire in a couple of years. I do want to correct something that he said. Safety technology in big trucks is not 10-15 years behind. Matter of fact we were ahead of automotive. Eaton Vorad is the grandfather of automated cruise control and was available in 1992 on Freightliner trucks. I had to wait 30 years to get the same feature on my Ram pickup. What did take forever for Freightliner to update is the stereo system.
@@keithgreen70 must be a dodge problem. My 92 silverado has cruise
@@gatewaygarage Not just cruise control. Adaptive, or automated, cruise control. The vehicle automatically slows down when it comes up behind a slower vehicle, or even stops in an emergency. That's what the Eaton Vorad system does, and finally available in the automotive market.
Good fun content. Thanks.
So to start out I love the sport chassis trucks, I’m a gear head to start with, the reason I haven’t bought one is why pay so much for a truck with less hp and torque in a heavier truck then my 2020 duramax. I know u can upgrade to the dd13 in the m106 but still limited to an Allison 6 speed, I run the m106 at work everyday and they are severely under powered.
The interior is nicer than a work truck but i still need things like dual AC upfront at least lol
Would make an excellent, although expensive, hotshot truck.
Love the looks
That's my idea of a truck.!!
Thats a proper truck for the job if you have the funds. Modern diesels are hard to trust though. Little water contamination from a bad gas station, etc, is all it takes.
I would say if you have a dually pickup, you are going to be parking in the back of the lot as well.
Nice 👍🏼
I just wanted to make a couple of observations and comparisons between the US and Australia. Interesting that these units have the option for air brakes. Anything over 4500 kilograms (9900 pounds) requires air brakes in Australia. That includes things like caravans (I think you call them a travel trailer). The other thing I thought that is hilarious is you talk about taking your F450 through a drive through. There isn’t a drive through in Australia that you could go through a drive through.
In most states in the US you do not need a CDL to drive an HDT except in Texas, you have to have an endorsement. The HDT must be titled as an RV
WHEN I HIT THE LOTTO THERE WILL BE SIGNS. LOL
Great truck too much money though for most people. Hey JD what is the stick vacuum that you guys have in your RV?
Makita 18 volt. We love it. But it's only for hard floors.
Thank ya
You can take it through a truck wash instead and get the spot free rinse and not have to worry about it drying with water spots all over it and they have better aluminum and chrome cleaners than your normal car wash centers.
My fire co has the 4x4 version of this chasis as a fire engine.
DO NOT GET ONE OF THESE WITH THE DETROIT DD8!!! Everything else is fine. The DD8 will make you regret buying one these. I’m a diesel mechanic for freightliner and that engine is horrible and they stopped making them as a result. Do not buy one.
What he said about the Allison is right. If you are buying an older one(10 years old or so) take a look at the TCM(trans ecm) and if it has the nipples on the body vs the vanes then plan on replacing it, it will fail. Other than that the Allison’s are fantastic.
Also they make these things in 4wd which is awesome. The freightliner M2 platform is pretty solid. They have some issues but very few. They are a good platform. The back side also has a lot of options so if you don’t want seats you can do a bunch of things with the back. Also, the back seat is freaking huge, a 6’9” guys could stretch their legs out behind the front seat.
I can't afford it, but I would love one as a Van.
How much for the truck
Can you fillup at Bucee's?
I have a w900 kw 2 axle
Have you heard of the freightliners that are supposed to be coming out like pick ups that are eight to $9000?
I’m curious their L3 are chassis cab pickups with a hauler bed. Why a ford base compared to having both a gm and ram options? No hate on ford just am genuinely curious.
4x4 option?
Man, that female customer base 18 to 24?? How old is the male customer base 50 and over....
I'm wondering about that too. What exactly are 18-24yr girls doing that they need a Sportchassis? Livestock and horses is all i can think of, but to make up 30% of their sales is crazy lol
You are required to have a class A due to the weight... combined weight will be over 26k you need a Class A but not commercial.
But do you need a CDL?
Check the rules in your state AND the state you plan to drive in.
No it's falls under medium duty truck
@i_am_thad9937 read the part about how the weight of what you're towing makes the difference then get back to me.
Yeah you will if these trucks are GVWR at 19,500 you’ll need a cdl.
@ I thought so
9:19 Typically it’s not typical…
What brand is this?????
Sport chassis. Built on a Freightliner body
@@BTBRVReviews built on a Freightliner chassis and cab. Sportchassis does nothing but the towing body and some trim items.
Or just do what one full time Rv'r did. Just go buy a class 8 freightliner, re-classify it to private and that way your partner has a place to stretch out or make coffee while going down the road.
🌟LH5 is going to run you between $200,000 to $205,000.
There is a used LH-5 with 109,000 miles for $169,000.
Hilarious 😂 prices!!
1:48 What is the American Dream?
Could you show the truck instead of just talking about it?
Wow female 18-24??? Able to afford this truck as well as a triple axle trailer toy hauler? 250K seems like a lot of $$$ for a young people
"No CDL required" that's nuts..
Almost too good to be true...............
It does require a cdl. These trucks weigh 19,500 lbs so if you connect a trailer to it you’ll be over 26,001 the combined weight for truck and trailer. To be non cdl you’ll have to be under that 26,001 truck and trailer.
@@JBTRUCKN They normally pool fifth wheel travel trailers. No CDL required.
@@JBTRUCKN as long as it’s personal use, you can have a gcwr of 80,000 lbs
@ their website says no CDL required *shrug*
Too expensive, semi
