For your mixing-tip: if you CTRL-S, expand audio, on the big compound clip, you can actually mix the different roles (dialog, effects, music...). For example throw the limiter on the dialogue, compressor on music and equalize the music so it doesn't affect the dialogue so much.
Absolutely great tip! Since I’m usually doing things quick and dirty for RUclips I often master it to my ear to balance tracks in the main timeline, then just lift the whole thing on the compound clip. Of course your suggestion is the correct way to do it though
Dude.. I don't know why I haven't even bothered saving text presets in there. Would save me so many unnecessary clicks 😂 Always appreciate seeing more FCP content Tyler!
Adding timestamps because I keep coming back to your video. I haven't memorized the commands yet. 0:30 - Speed ramps 1:46 - Custom shortcuts 5:26 - Title presets 6:46 - Compound clips 7:15 - Noise removal 10:00 - Compound your multicam 12:36 - An export secret Thanks for this, and your other, amazing videos. They've been extremely helpful.
I taught myself how to use final cut and have been using since 2015... because I am self taught, I always look for better ways to do things. this taught me tons! what a time saver. thank you!
Both this video and the great comments are going to take a while to digest. One last thing, as someone who used to design typefaces it’s always hard hearing them called fonts. But that’s what the menu says thanks to Mr. Jobs.
Thank you so much. I really learned a lot from your first video I've ever watched of yours. For me, when you scroll through various onscreen choices, such as the end encoding, you move to fast for beginners like me. Thank you so much for making your content free and I have now subscribed to learn more from you and your channel.
Your noise reduction method can be simplified further if you have Logic. Open Logic, drag your video clip into Logic, press shift+W to send it to RX (you may have to map this in the sample editor menu in Preferences), perform any noise reduction you need, Cmd+S to save, Cmd+Q to quit, which takes you back to your logic session, then go to File - Movie - Export audio to movie. Bam, now you have noise reduction encoded directly into the source video file and don't need to create any extra audio files.
Loved this! Saving the titles as presets is a game-changer for me! I've been going to previous videos of mine and copying and pasting in! So happy I don't need to do that anymore!
Yeah this was the only tip that seemed longer than what I normally do - I created a Custom Destination that just spits out the audio of the current timeline as a WAV or AIFF, then round trip to RX8
For speed ramps, you can press just the letter R i believe, and high section of the clip than choose your speed. It creates in and out ramps to your clips. Way easier than the way demonstrated here. The transition shortcuts are awesome 🔥
I've been using FCP for 2 years now and don't know half the stuff in these tips. Thanks so much. I'm still unsure of how the compound clips work. I'll try it myself and then rewatch your vids.
I agree with the noise reduction... its poopy. I have found that using a slight voice isolation on noisy backgrounds and then compounding the clip together, then once again added a little more voice isolation along with loudness amount and uniformity seems to work the same wonders without compressing or limiting. I always feel the limiter takes away from the quality slightly. Just my little work around to explore.
Is there any way I can move around to different points in the timeline of FCPX like in Adobe Preiemire I used to have mark In point and Out point in the timeline and then with press of Cntr + I goto In Point and with Cntrl + O gotto Out point can we can do such thing in FCPS please help really need this feature
If you need a wav file, it might be faster to just export(share) master file (command + E) and choose audio only, or better yet just make a wav file destination for the share menu(add destination).
Actually you’re probably right, as long as you select the original clip in the browser. What you want to avoid is accidentally changing the length of the wav
For people who are doubting FCP, it was the standard before Premiere in the industry. It was let down due to the major changes of FCP X that created too many issues and because macs lineup was less appealing, but in reality, you will find Avid much more than Premiere in pro studios. Also, features such as Parasites where all edited on FCP X. FCPX presets are so ridiculous, if you look closely, there's one in the 3D section what was totally use for the earlier white, 3D Netflix logo animation!! :O
I made a couple keyboard shortcuts for things I use often and it has seriously cut down my editing time. 1) Created a shortcut for "Automatic speed." So when I use the command it takes the clip and slows it down until it matches the framerate of the video file you are editing. So if I shot in 60fps and my project is in 24fps then it will slow it down to 40%. Really useful for B roll sequences and b roll heavy project so you don't have to drag you mouse up to the drop down menu. 2) Created a shortcut to silence the audio on a clip. Its great for if you or your videographer recorded audio into you b roll that you won't be using or if you are just cutting something to music.
I recently found out that if you want a transition to affect only the secondary timeline (without disturbing the primary timeline) all you need to do is to come from a clip with zero opacity (does not work with muted clips). Comes in really handy for example if you want to slide something in the frame from the side...just use a slide transition. This was my first edit using this method. The climbing holds are "animated" with slide transitions which also provide great motion blur without using much rendering power. /watch?v=0Vx6gtJkL9w
One improvement on the audio master tip, if you make a compound clip of everything at the end, detach audio, then export that into auphonic (free) you can professionally normalize just a bit better than the built in apple limiter :) an extra step, but good audio is worth it!
you don't have to use compressor to export a wav file. you can export a clip directly in final cut as wav. you also dont need to make a compound clip. you can export a range. you can make a range by selecting a clip in your timeline and pressing the X key then dragging the handles on either end to make the range bigger or smaller. So you can actually remove a few of the steps you made to do the same thing and so making your workflow even faster
Sweet video, thanks for the info. 8:05 - for this I use a easy plug-in called NS1 by Waves. I bought it for Logic Pro X but it shows up in FCPX as well so I thought that was cool. However, I know your work is top quality so this wont work as great for you but for the rest of the people out there like me, maybe this can help you get rid of your unwanted noise with just two clicks. (Plug-in was $40, super worth it for me). Thanks again for the video just wanted to share the little knowledge I have in the comments for us small timers.
Thank you Tyler, very helpful tips and I can use some of them with Davinci too. I would love Final Cut especially because I have a Mac but I the entry price is still high for me… who knows maybe I should invest 🤔
Hi, in my Final Cut Pro, I have around 5 different audio tracks that are all separate. I am trying to export those tracks from Final Cut Pro so it goes into Pro Tools " SEPARATE ". Do you know how please ?
Great tutorial! Loved the shortcut tip, will use it from now on! I tend to waste too many clicks setting speed ramps lol. I do have a question, though: to me, one of the major drawbacks from FCPX is the lack of a proper way to ease in/out keyframes. In some cases adding a speed ramp to a compound clip would do, but not everytime, and it feels dumb to do all that for what'd be easy pie in Premiere. Is there any workaround that you know of?

The Option+T audio transition tip literally just gave me hours of my life back 🙏
Me too! That’s brilliant.
It really does. I found this out a little while back and OMG. Not having to drag those tiny little audio fade handles out is A+
Option + T. Got it❤️💪🏻
Yup
Same!!

Easily one of my new favorite RUclips channel. Love the professional vibes!
bro you're a cheat code, super appreciate your expertise- absolutely love your videos, these tips saved me an eternity of editing
I thought I had a pretty slick workflow in Final Cut until I watched this video and realized the extent of my inefficiency😳 Thanks Tyler!
You’re a legend man..I’ve learned loads of FCP stuff from your videos 👍
Once again, you prove that you are the Jedi Master of FCPX.
Awesome tips. Thanks for sharing. The round trip to RX via compound clip just changed my life!
…you rock! 🙌🏼💯😎🔥⚡️ …first day back in FCPX after 5yrs in PP… this helps significantly.
This is one of the best FCP tips videos I’ve ever watched. Thank you, Tyler!
I’ve been using FCP off and on for years to edit, more recently as a second gig and I realized I’ve been doing so many things the hard way lol.
Excellent tutorial, Tyler! As always, your use of compound clips blows my mind + streamlines my workflow 😆
Everyone knows Patrick! Small world. Great video! Definitely going to use compound clips more often.

@Tyler Stalman ....that hoodie though! IYKYK!
08:34 Is it any different then exporting only audio as wave?
Yeah this was the only tip that seemed longer than what I normally do - I created a Custom Destination that just spits out the audio of the current timeline as a WAV or AIFF, then round trip to RX8

Ctrl+opt+R is a good trick for speed ramps in which your video time doesn’t shift when synched.
Literally the RUclips video I’ve been looking for. Thanks so much for the tips, super helpful!
This is awesome. Thanks for the tips!
All relevant tips explained in great detail! Thank you.
I've been using FCP for 2 years now and don't know half the stuff in these tips. Thanks so much. I'm still unsure of how the compound clips work. I'll try it myself and then rewatch your vids.
Really like your FCPX videos. Subbed.
I’m definitely going to need to remember the text and option-T audio tip! Thank you 🙏🏽

ive been using FCPX for a long time and i still learned from this video. great stuff!
Audio tip: you can try using gate to basically mute the audio when nothing is spoken. It works beautifully when the mic gain is set correctly! :)
These shortcuts, so helpful thank you!!🔥😩
That Technics hoodie is 🔥
absolutely the best tutorial FCPX ever! Perfect for where I am in my learning process! Thanks a ton!
Super helpful. Good looking out on another helpful video.
wow these were really great tips! Thanks tyler!!
Wow Tyler ! So much info. Thanks for this. I'll need to watch this a few more times. Saved for reference.
Yep. Just subbed. Very clean and easy tutorial. Everything I needed from the last two weeks of work just got faster. Thank you!
thank you Tyler! lots of great info in here!
This is exactly what i was looking for, thanks.

To remove noise in Final Cut I use Crumple Pop's Audio Denoise AI and man it really works and I don't have to leave Final Cut
props for the technics hoodie

hm given you mention plugins noise removal is so much easier and quicker with Crumble Pop Noise remover or Wave Clarity VX all within FCP
Love the shortcuts, thanks man! 💪🏻
I love that you rock Technics gear. #represent
Yessss, another FCP vid!
Thanks for a great video I’m a world famous photographer and I do all my own RUclips videos and I use Final Cut it’s excellent software!
Thanks Tyler some great tips as per usual! 🔥🔥🔥
Great tips! Need to learn more shortcuts ASAP
Great wealth of knowledge...what do you use for screen recording?
Amazing tips, thanks for sharing!
Dude, that hoodie! Are you a DJ?
Awesome Video Tyler

For the noise reduction tip, once I reveal in Browser, the option to reveal in Finder is greyed out. Did I miss a step somewhere?
love the thumbnail
Watching these videos make me want to switch but it’s so difficult when I’ve been using Premiere for 11 years. 😅
Would really love to know what’s the real difference on exporting for “Apple devices”
FANTASTIC tips! Thank you! Once you learn and render a portion of the video, how do you apply that noise removal to the rest of the clip?
Nevermind; I got it! After learning, you must deselect the noise-only portion of the clip and then hit render.
Awesome Tips!
Thanks so much for this video!
Hey
You added chapters but youtube doesn't show them?
What's up?
Why? is that?
Really helpful, Tyler. Thanks.
8:29 - final cut can export audio of a clip, timeline, based on selection etc
What is the arrow plugin called from motion vfx?
Hi Tyler, loving the content.
Question: Which pack do I purchase to get the arrow used in 4:30
Did you figure that out?
@@jmarcelombNope
I used control option R for speed ramping, it's not a good way as it's not editable afterwards. I can't believe there's a much better way of doing it
Thank you Tyler, very helpful tips and I can use some of them with Davinci too. I would love Final Cut especially because I have a Mac but I the entry price is still high for me… who knows maybe I should invest 🤔
Great vid.
You can drag your video straight into RX. 👍
did u export face+screen shot to one clip and then import back into FCP to make muticam clip?
Why do you export your file for youtube via Final Cut and not via Compressor (since you have it)?
Hi, in my Final Cut Pro, I have around 5 different audio tracks that are all separate. I am trying to export those tracks from Final Cut Pro so it goes into Pro Tools " SEPARATE ". Do you know how please ?

Good stuff, thanks!
The reason it uploads faster is that it's 4x lighter. You can see it in the final file size box. It's not magic, just compression
what is the name of the plugin that has this animated arrow?
hear here
The arrow is in the plug-in set called mFrame motionvfx.sjv.io/c/2035867/614046/10011
