Yeah, much as I like this song, this was part of the bad 80s music. Stock, Aitken and Waterman produced this song and they’re to blame for huge amounts of “bad” UK music of the era. It’s fun, stupid and repetitive.

I was living near Amsterdam as an exchange student and watched the British networks, and Mel & Kim's videos got lots of air time. I absolutely fell in love with their music, and then I came home to the US and no one had heard of them...ugh! Respectable is my very favorite (FLM a close second), and the video is fantastic! Totally addictive! Great choreography without the need for smut or sleaze. I had no idea until recently that Mel had passed away at such a young age. :( Tragic loss of a lovely talent. RIP.

I remember this song vividly as i was about 7 or 8 years old and used to goto the public phonebox in Owston Ferry just round the corner from where i lived. I managed to find a chart music line by mashing numbers and messing about with end call button. I thought i was some sort of genius phone hacker, because for a time i could get onto that chart line for free and the song they usually played was this one (or as i used to call it 'Tay tay tay tay'). Also i have a confession... in order to try and impress the older kids i once wiped dog shit inside the handle of that old fashioned red telephone box to try and make them laugh and like me. I can only thoroughly apologize to anyone who fell victim to this shitty fingered phone prank and i really did feel appropriately guilty for doin that (right up until this day). 😬
