For those criticising their dancing, I don't think this was ever meant to be a 'choreographed' type of video. It's fun and casual like most videos were in the 80's. This wasn't the 00's where people danced in perfect sync like robots.

Not to mention the fact that they're some VERY attractive young women back in the day, sigh. first time I ever heard this song was in mid, 1986, was trying to sleep and my roommate cranks up this song on his big Bose speakers. even though I was irritated, there was no denying that I loved that bass that was resonating through the walls. Yeah! this version of Venus is even better than the original, by Shocking Blue in 1969, ( remember hearing it in a Brazilian radio station in São Paulo). and the original by Shocking Blue was / IS a great song,, but the girls of Bananarama made it their own. LOVE it.

so I'm like from the great white north and these brothers come up from st lou to help their cousin chef work this summer restaurant where I'm the sous. I tell the guys there's an eighties band tonight let's go. The one dude is like I may be black but I ain't stupid. Like we the only black people around -I don't want wind up in a lobster trap as bait. The bar below is empty so we go there first and the people dancing in time upstairs have it looking like the ceiling is gonna cave from the bounce. We go upstairs and there is a bottle neck to get in that parts like the red sea letting them in-people high fiving them yo yo so and so and shit ...I'm like I've been coming up here for a decade these people won't give me the time of day you mnfer sob's- We get to the band area and these guys are in shock truly and I'm like what's the matter ? How do all these people know all the words and shit to all these songs ? Then I explained to them what a radio is. Yup youth is wasted on the young.

Back in their heydey, it was all about Sara for me. Then, about 10 years ago, after learning a little bit about the interaction between the three and looking at them from a different perspective, I think I noticed Keren more. But, now that I'm a lot older, I think Siobhan is the most beautiful. Bottom line is that they were all lookers and I had a very difficult time focusing only on their music back then. And, my favorite song of theirs is Cruel Summer!

I really prefer the choreography of today but wish videos had the same spirit of the '80s. Everything is too planned out nowadays or is done for publicity. More spontaneity. Also, we had to wear jeans back then before they got ripped. They sell them that way nowadays. Spoils the fun.

Usually when bands do a remake of an older song, it's not that good. That is not the case here with Bananarama's version "Venus" originally a 1960's song. This is an excellent version !!

Sorry in advance for the overly personal comment, but...
Craig was my stepdad when I was a kid. The two of us would sneak out of the house to take night drives in his electric blue Nissan Z to the airport and watch the planes land/take off and get slushies from Dairy Queen and listen to fun pop music when my mom was being exceptionally challenging. However, when I access those memories, this song specifically is always the soundtrack to them. Things weren't always awesome at home, and I haven't been in touch with either my mother or Craig for 20 years, but these memories are so good.
Today, I learned that Craig is no longer with us. It's a very conflicting feeling; logically it shouldn't hurt. I haven't spoken to him in so long and if he weren't dead it isn't like I would be reaching out... and yet. Hurt I am. So I am playing Bananarama at full blast and remembering Craig: a comrade in war, someone who always had a slightly too raunchy joke that was probably inappropriate considering my age but always made me giggle anyways, and someone I considered a friend. I hope you're resting well.

It's always a question of taste ... As i already wrote, i find the original version much much better, this one is quite poor for me ... I Just can't stand that "plastic / digital" sound of the 2nd half of 80s!!! As a fan of electronic music, i really loved the coming back of analog sounds in the 90s !!!!
