I would never go more that 5k max on an oil change, like they say oil is cheap engines are not. The Wix filter is excellent too. I change mine at about 4k with SYN Mobil1. If the oil looks dirty, change it. I have 2k on mine now and it still looks new.
I'm the mechanic for A rental fleet ( 200+ cars ) and the owner has been using 10k intervals long before I got there in 1988. I have never replaced an engine for oil quality, just lack of oil, in my tenure there. We use straight dinosaur oil, no synthesis. I'm not advising anyone to use 10k pm intervals, just saying it's not an automatic engine killer..............

Use to go 5,000 miles on conventional oil then change oil and filter in previous vehicles. My first vehicle got changed twice a year. Now with my current since I don't drive a lot of miles during a year, yearly, about 3,000 miles and full synthetic as the owners manual says to use full synthetic during winter if temps drop below -22F, which they can here.
Depends on how the car was driven. You use t6 5w40 or amsoil on a car that only takes drives upwards of 1000 mile trips regularly, then yeah, 10k miles is cool. City, nah. Semi's run 25-30k intervals cuz they don't heat cycle multiple times a day every day with multiple short trip starts like a passenger vehicle. If you blackstone with good tbn and good particulate #'s you can run higher intervals
All oils are now being API/SP rated which are backwards compatible, so buying the most expensive oil is just burning $s. The same applies for oil filters, they will only last about 10,000miles depending on the engine and driving. Keep an eye on the Dip Stick useing the oil drop test, if you see Black Carbon floating around then you know it´s time to change the oil and filter.
Yes it is and that’s my point exactly. Not everybody uses synthetic or semi synthetic some people use conventional oil and the vehicle doesn’t know what you put in it so it’s still going to tell you it’s a 10,000 mile Interval on the oil life percentage. So even a better reason not to go 10,000 miles. Thanks

Nice. What type of vehicles are they and do they use ethanol fuel?
I have no doubt there was sludge build up.

Color does not mean oil is bad.

I do mine every 5000 with full synthetic and have never had a problem. Looking as much as I can into the crank case, it still looks shiny.

I watched this while having diner and the sight of that black oil was sickening.
