    Let's ask Night Dive Studios for a remaster guys! Hit them up on Facebook, IG, Twitter, own website, we have to show interest! Let's make it happend boys!
    Also. I forgot to mention that the game should have had checkpoints and a quicksave option, along with a weapon wheel like in T1 instead of having to search for the right weapon during combat which is quite frustrating.

    • @livebungusreaction
      @livebungusreaction Год назад +4

      Nah no checkpoints or maybe have it an option but a weapon wheel 100% and when you open it you can toggle a grenade, spider mine, or dark matter cube and make the sticky grenade better and make it have a land mine effect possibly? But being able to throw a grenade with a button would be cool.

    • @kawamikazecheant

      Or a quicksave option like in most of PC FPS, it prevents escaping the game due to frustration and also allows to try a lot of stuff, like killing NPC for fun, or to see if it failed a mission

    This game definitely needs the Nightdive Studios remastered treatment. Various bug fixes, quality of life improvements, fixing the controls, added checkpoints, and other things would be able to enhance the game and give us what it should’ve been. They also added cut content back in the third game so I’m sure we’d see the snow level with wolves.
    I’m sure that with fixed controls and checkpoints I’d probably enjoy the flying sections since I liked Star Fox and other rail shooter flying games (too bad Nintendo killed that franchise through incompetence, weird gimmicks nobody wanted, and refusing to learn from their mistakes and build on what worked).
    A few other games I’d LOVE to see get the Nightdive Studios remastered treatment are Vivisector Beast Within, Command and Conquer Renegade (this weird C&C spinoff fps), and Unreal 1998 (it’s so weird how Epic unlisted everything related to Unreal. That decision made zero sense).

    • @TheGamingChad.

      Yeah. That's what I said in the end. Evolution doesn't need much work and has the most clients on the line. T3 was a complete mess to remaster and has a smaller audience than T4. But I've been told by a Night Dive developer the source code is missing. So it would have to be reverse engineered. But it's a major plus that it has a solid PC Port for ND to work off of he said. Imagine this: a remaster of this game with flight moments as bonus skippable missions to unlock unecessary, but cool, lore + a multiplayer with bots, inspired by Rage Wars :)
    I love the fact it is linear, even if I didn't try this game yet, it might seem cool to have non linear games, but sometimes it's a pain to navigate and playing to them become a chore.
    It's like some open worlds finishing in walk simulators. Sometimes linearity is cool as it permits a story to be told without unecessary stuff.

    Turok Evolution is the prequel to TK1. Nightdive Studios can do a great job with Evolution adding its deleted content and maybe re adjusting some of the flying levels. Or, they can even redesign some of those levels. Evolution is a way longer game than TK3, and it has way better levels also re-introducing the dinosaurs.

    In my opinion the largest mistake the devs made was rewriting the engine circa turok 3. It lead to poorer quality animations and more linear feeling levels. I enjoyed the snappy quick portals in Turok 1 and the vastness and scale of Turok 2. I just wish they had taken their lessons from those games and applied them instead of trying to fix what wasn't broken.
    Despite all of this. Evolution has grown on me, as Turok 3 did before it. Because although flawed I can see what they were trying to do, and it seems like most of the issues had to do with Acclaims mismanagement and poor leadership.

    And I too, personally, would give an arm and a leg for a remaster of Evolution. This game actually had a PC port, so it wouldn't be quite as much of a chore for Nightdive to remaster it as opposed to Turok 3. I'm hoping that in 2024, we'll at least get a teaser/announcement that it's in the works. There was a 2 year gap between the remasters of Turoks 1 and 2, followed by a 6 year gap between 2 and 3, so I'm hoping that we'll get an announcement for Evolution sometime this coming year, with a planned release date for sometime in 2025.

    Nice review. I think the bigger problem I always had with the game was its unnecessarily long loading times on the PS2. I don’t know how they are on other systems but that combined with the story kind of being weird even when you compare it to the other 3 games that came before and the extremely long duration of the game with the same repeating enemies like you mentioned, never really made me the biggest fan of Turok Evolution. It should definitely be remastered by Nightdive Studios absolutely but I have to admit I think it’s the least good of all 4 of the original games. That could change easily though. I actually wouldn’t mind if Nightdive added things onto the game. Just make it flow better with the other 3 as far as story and progression go. Add in unused enemies and level ideas. Also yes the flying levels are bad hahaha

      The only reason I want this remastered is because of the modding community. The possibilities are almost endless: more weapons, more levels, new mechanics, more enemies. I know modders, and I'm one myself. I know what we are capable of. I couldn't care less about the actual game. I want to mod the sh!τ οut of this game. I will be bringing back weapons from previous titles. I have my own weapon pack that I created myself. This game is going to break the internet once Night Dive Studios re-releases it. Hopefully we'll get one in 5-8 years, if we don't, we know what to do, bombard them with requests like we did with Turok 3 lmao.

    also about the weapons : the alternative usage of every weapon is amazing and for the grenade launcher you have the rochet launcher and similar to scorpion launcher of turok 2 witch is more powerfull than grenade launcher you have the grenades witch can you put them as mines on the ground with the alternative use witch is also amazing if you have to play the game more defensivly when you lack on ammo

      @TheGamingChad.  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, that doesn't make the cut for me. Every Turok game has a grenade launcher, but not Turok: Evolution. Turok: Evolution has only 3-4 main weapons if you think about it. If you exclude all the side weapons such as the spider mine, dark matter cube, the flamethrower that can only be used once, the nuke, and the gravity gun (which acts more like a tool than a gun), you pretty much end up using the bow, shotgun, and flechette. That's it. Weakest arsenal in the series in my opinion. Turok 1 & 2 had a much better arsenal BY FAR.

    Honestly, due to how undercooked this game ended up being, I think a full remake would be the way to go. Like they did with System Shock. And since it's a prequel, it could be a neat way to reboot the Turok series. As a concept, I like the pterosaur levels, I just wish the maps were more open and that they had more checkpoints. Navigating through tight spaces, crashing, and starting all over again, SUCKED!

    I remember skipping this game when it came out years ago. Once the 6th generation really got rolling this game was so behind the curve it wasn't even funny. I mean this game was a very poor answer to games like Time Splitters 2, Medal of Honor, Unreal Tournament, Battlefield 1942, Tribes, Metroid Prime, and the mighty Halo. It isn't even in the same ballpark.
    This coming from someone who loves FPS's and Turok. I wanted this game to really make a great showing. I even remember thinking that with Turok's pedigree it could have very well turned out to be a true competitor to Halo. However, once it dropped...even in 2002 it didn't take much time before people were ripping it to shreds. Save your money they said and they were right.
    Addendum- Perhaps with the Turok Trilogy Remaster finally being available something can be done to fix this mess. If anyone can do it it's Nightdive Studios.

    This game needs a serious overhaul, its rough, like really rough but lots of potential, and that shotgun would kick a lot of ass with mouse aiming because it lacks bullet magnetism.
    So for games, this is impressive in some regards, atleast it tried to have a story unlike Turok Dino hunter which one ask "what the fuck is going on", even Evolution had some weird story connectors. Speaking of the shotgun, the shotgun does excel at destroying the balloons of parachuting enemies.
    Also, when it comes to enemy variety, I do not mind seeing the usual 3, 4 enemies (technically 5) because I imagine them as simple grunts. Though that Club axe (its a mysterious on what it is) is very devastating beginning to end, here is a tip, use the poison arrows on the larger slegs and hack at them while they are puking up their guts.
    As for the flying levels, I do not mind them, infact, I say they are the most consistent maps because I have the MGs and the launcher, not wondering what weapon I will have when I start a level.
    Ladders suck and holy fuck, those Gunships having one thrusting on the side? Gross, that is disgusting.

As you said, the aiming sucks, the weapons suck, very bad weapon design, weapons don't cause as much damage as they should, its really god damn uncomfortable to shoot, there's not grenade launcher, there's not enough or average plasma weapons, there are not enough strategies for the average gamer to put into place, there's not that much of an adventure. I must say you have a excellent voice and a very eloquent way of speech in these reviews. Looking forward to your Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion remaster take. Have been playing it myself on the Switch since yesterday and let med tell you, ND knocked it out of the park yet again. Pure magic! If ND retrofitted and applied some of these assets into the old Dinosaur Hunter and Seeds of Evil remasters, I would do backflips.
    As for Evolution I was never really a fan. The prequel idea is neat and I like how this is Dinosaur Hunter juiced up (in theory at least) but the execution leaves alot to be desired. Tedious gameplay, lackluster level design and hideous pacing bring everything down. ND would have to do some serious overtime to make this work to an acceptable degree. Rewrite entire level sections, layouts, structures and do some massive tweaks pretty much everywhere. I don't know if it's really worth the effort. Now... a Turok 4 that continues after the fall of Oblivion would truly be amazing! I would easily pay $70 for that.

      When did Turok become a flying game? The endless flying missions in Evolution didn't sit well with the majority of the fanbase. Your personal favorites don't define the entire Turok community. If those flying levels were kept short, maybe nobody would have had an issue. A significant portion of the Turok fanbase didn't find them as enjoyable, and for most, it felt like a major departure from the core Turok experience. Like i said. All that time and effort dumped into those endless skies could've been used to amp up the actual Turok experience. More weapons, enemies, levels, mechanics, actual boss fights. You know, the stuff that makes Turok what it is.

    • @AlternateKek

      @@TheGamingChad. Turok Evolution is a pretty long damn game and I feel the few flying missions did not take away the experience and in fact added and expanded on it in a better way. Whether or not reviews at the time railed on it or not it was a good change and people are always resistant to change. The flying sections were extremely well and during the release window of Turok Evolution arcade flying games were extremely popular. On top of that it was extremely common for games to have mini games that strayed from the main gameplay loop. Also the time Turok Evolution came out was dense with other titles, its graphics were not the greatest, and had very little effective marketing. Back in the day Turok Evolution was indeed a house favorite for my friends and I and never once did I ever hear them complain about flying. The flying missions are just a scapegoat internet reviewers commonly use.

    • @TheGamingChad.
      @TheGamingChad.  Год назад

      While I get that Turok Evolution was a long game and the flying missions didn't ruin the experience for you, let's be real. As refreshing as they might have been, they just dragged on forever. Dedicating a whopping 40-50% of the entire game to flying.
      Sure, flying games were in at the time, but it doesn't change the fact that the balance was off. The core Turok experience got sidelined, and for many of us, it felt like an overindulgence in something that didn't quite fit the franchise. Just because it was a trend doesn't mean it was the right move for Turok. And let's not brush off legitimate critiques as a scapegoat - the flying missions took up a significant chunk of the game, and that's a valid concern for fans who expected more of the classic Turok vibe. Do you know what the first thing modders are interested in doing when a remaster comes out? Replace all the flying levels with ground levels...@@AlternateKek

    Turok: Evolution was a tremendous disappointment to me. After completing my favorite Turok game, Seeds of Evil, I was so stoked to bring home Evolution, back when it first released. The cover art had me hyped. lol
    But then....3 or so hours into Evolution, I found myself feeling quite bored and lethargic. The music was nowhere near as strong as that of SOE. It was too chill and relaxing... like what? In a Turok game?? The dinos were also nowhere near as scary or aggressive. It was like a petting zoo. The reptilian enemies were also more intimidating in SOE than the ones in Evolution. But the worst part of it all, was the pterodactyl flight sequences. Controlling that thing was a nightmare and I couldn't stop hitting the sides of rock formation, due to the reverse flight control. It was so awkward.
    Then I'd have to wait about 15 seconds or so, after each fail, just to reload it again. It was frustrating and I hated the game then.
    Took me well over 2 years to finally power through the entire game without cheats and finish it. Fighting Bruckner was such an underwhelming experience.
    Not a fan of this game. I don't know how anyone could praise it or want a remaster but... well different strokes for different folks.

    Shotguns are close range combat weapons? Ofc it wont be great at range😭
    Minigun is fine, the spread shouldn’t be changed
    Dark matter cubes should be 5/5 are you high?
    Plasma cannon is 5/5 are you high?

      -Shotgun is utterly useless after 10 feet. I'm not expecting a shotgun to act like a sniper rifle, but it should still be somewhat effective in mid-range combat. Just like it was in Turok 1.
      -Dark Matters cube's are 2.5/5, i changed my mind. It's nothing more than just a grenade that explodes on impact. And you can only carry one at a time. It just looks fancy.
      -Plasma Cannon is mediocre, its very ammo-hungry, and doesn't deal a lot of damage. The Pulse Rifle from T1 was significantly better.

    For all its flaws, a brand new Turok game under the name "Turok Evolution" would probably be better, and it can include the original Turok game as a bonus so that players can understand the history of the game.

    0:47 is not a Triceratops but a Stiracosaurus.
    8:38 You did not play Turok Dinosaur hunter? It looks like the cannon that is as powerful as the Nuke but launches a red bomb
