Hi Paul, This is Charlie Park with Mercedes, your co-driver on the offroad track in Denver. I really enjoyed the offroad ride with you and watching you producing your video. I hope you had a good trip back home and hope to see you again in future.
I love this honeymoon period as the luxury brands are introducing their EV’s by going all out with wow factor and quality of materials. I can only imagine they’ll dial it back a little in the future so that the price can be reduced a little. We’re living in an excellent time with peak ICE and brand’s who want to impress us with EV.
Peak with ICE passed a long time ago when they all went direct injection. DI is the worst thing out, depending on the car it can cost more to keep up with maintenance due to valve's getting caked in carbon as well as them injectors are expensive as hell to replace. All in the name of a scam know as climate change. EV's are trash, off road an EV is the biggest joke out, if they break down good luck getting them out of a track, run out of battery have fun charging it. EV's only work in city's.
Brilliant review as usual Paul. I'm not sure if I'm sold into this screens everywhere new interior design language. Oh and I am watching this review from Australia rather than my usual home cou try South Africa, just here for work for a few weeks, if only you had a live studio audience I would have loved to come.
Mmmm, I wonder what embargo finished today? (well yesterday by now) :) Still for a thorough review, it is difficult to find someone to beat Paul. Great job again. :)
I reckon the "enormous HEPA filter" is just a pathetic excuse for some OTHER reason they don't want us opening the bonnet. I'd much prefer the option of omitting the filter, and having a frunk instead.
I agree!! I think they could have employed a different method or placement to the gigantic filter and give more storage/luggage space as the vehicle is a bit sad on load-space.
Who skips to some parts of your videos? I'm watching all 44 mins of it. This is a superb vehicle. As an owner of the current G05 BMW X5, I was crossing my fingers for BMW to release an iX5 (which they promised to do soon). But now I'm not so sure if that's the SUV I should buy next. This EQS SUV is pretty good. And it looks very good too, unlike the hideous BMW iX. I think Mercedes have done a solid job here. That interior is just absolutely stunning.
Expect it to be around the $300k mark before on-roads. There's not currently an EQS 450 4MATIC sedan in Australia, that'll be coming in the next 2 months, but the EQS 53 sedan is $323k before on-roads and this will carry an SUV tax. So the 450 4MATIC SUV will be close to the AMG sedan.
From the perspective of being an S-class, I'm disappointed that the EQS doesn't have soft-close, or self-presenting doors. And that its ground up EV design doesn't quite look like it, but rather, a converted ICE vehicle design: why else would it have pretend exhaust outlets in the rear??? Luggage space is equally disappointing as is the third-row seating but I am absolutely stoked about the rear-wheel-steering! Have loved RWS since they emerged in Hondas and Mazdas in the day. Unsure if anyone owning such a vehicle would even go bush-bashing let alone proper 4WD-ing. Overall, loving the vid, but unsure about the 'value proposition' of the EQS, over something like a Model X Plaid which will more than likely cost a chunk less.
Four wheel steering is a huge thing! After having my last two BMW's with it, I wont buy a car without it! Sad BMW here in Aus have removed it as an an option, apart of their option reduction programme, especially now all the other brands are introducing it.
There is one pedal mode. You have to turn off the "creep mode" through the settings. Once you turn it off, strong regen provides full one pedal driving. The creep mode is for us old fools that don't initially understand one pedal driving.
I hope those cameras that monitor the driver, don’t flash red on and off constantly like in the video, it would drive you mad and be an awful distraction
I am not a SUV fan but that thing looks very nice. Definitely needs the hyperscreen though, that other iteration just doesn’t belong in such an impressive looking vehicle. Thanks for a great review Paul.
13:13 I'm sorry but I totally disagree with you on this point. No it is not a good thing that the 10 degree rear wheel steering is behind software paywall. The fact that the hardware is included in there should mean that they should enable it by default. If it was a case that it cost them extra to include it, they would have you option it from the build list.
Very nice indeed. If all legacy vehicle manufacturers around the world can get on board and produce great quality & normal looking EV,s without the desire to make it look like a Star Trek planetary explorer, then EV,s are set to take over a lot faster. Well done Mercedes!!
This car is amazing, every aspect of it is super cool. The front exterior part looks almost like the 2016 Honda HRV (very nice!) but obviously wayyyy better
Would it fit a full length cart size golf bag width wise? With current length drivers? Should have considered that for the test as probably a significant proportion of potential EQS SUV owners would be golfers.
Many others have also reported the awkward programmed brake-pedal interactions. I'm hesitant to commit to immediate purchase singularly because of this.
IMHO the EQS (and its SUV version) looks far better than any of the new BMWs. it really can't be said that the new BMWs look good. those BMW designers must have gone mad.
If the so called towing range is anything like the new Ford F-150 Lightning, it’ll also be useless! On that topic, what is the Merc’s real world range Paul? That interior colour will be terrific to keep clean with young kids!🤪👍🏼🤣
No open boot kick.....? Disappointing.Great review Paul. Not an Ev guy at all, but enjoyed the review. Some Yanks will not be pleased with your brutal honesty, but we love it.
Looks like the driving past of this car is the least important aspect like a smartphone with phone calls. Just have to sit in it and play with the technology.
@@CarExpertAus Ah okay, that would make sense for the memory bandwidth :) Probably the less important metric vs core count but a more interesting metric would be GPU perf which could be measured in GFlop/s
The subscription fee will be expensive :D even for my A clasee is ~$500/year or 1200/3year (only has 1 app - weather app). Imagine with this with other functions and apps
SUV are designed for electric because of a big mass to store batteries. Small sedans on the other hand will struggle as electric for that reason and already do.

Hey Charlie! Great to meet you and thanks again for guiding us around the off-road course 😁
I don't know why Paul wants us to skip to any part. There is no part I would want to skip
💯✔️
Agreed
Always looking forward to the window test
Thanks legend!
Think the entertainment reviews takes up a bit too much time.
44 minute video - just shows how much features this car has. Amazed at some of the technology this car is carrying!
@Christopher Holden. Was thinking the same thing.
This is the best video I have seen on the EQS SUV showing all angles while driving. Thank you!
Lovely SUV, a first time I'm loving a design of electric cars from Merc especially in the front, great work.
Hooray! Something that’s not a Ranger for a change 😂
Damn,more Ranger pls.
This reminds me of the old R class. If the old R was made today, especially in 7 seater, this would be it. Great review.

MB never dials back, it always evolves on the "S" models
I am sure is going to cost a fortune, but a nice electric Mec indeed.

Whats the range?
Sorry I must have missed this! Max is 660km WLTP for the entry-level.
I reckon the "enormous HEPA filter" is just a pathetic excuse for some OTHER reason they don't want us opening the bonnet. I'd much prefer the option of omitting the filter, and having a frunk instead.

Yep. Me too! Would be a good storage spot.
What happened to the 0 to 100 test.
Mercedes EQS love the design classy looking

So how much is this bad boy when it lands in Australia? I could google but you RUclipsrs are just awesome:)
More than average.
@@gregsullivan7408 "Much" more than average - there, fixed

@@TheStigHCE09 That's a big chunk of spare change, certainly out of reach for some, if not most people. Nice car though.
It’ll be exxy 😑
Loved the video Paul. I want one of those Mercedes. When do you think it will be in Aussie land?
Excellent and thorough review. Thank you💯
Paul I would love a link to shorts for ASMR of all the materials and buttons and sounds for all future vehicles!!!
Good thinking!
Can’t wait to try and probably buy. No one seems to know when it can be ordered. I wonder if it comes with a tow hook?

When you said they might do something to sut under the EQE... isnt there already the EQC/A etc?
Paul i like your video's a small suggestion please try make short video i think video's are little bit long
great review paul extremely well detailed im not a huge fan of the exterior although the interior looks amazing and the tech is mind blowing !!
Thanks for watching!
Actually very impressive off road!
I was surprised by it too!
Hey Paul, could you please review EQB 250 seven seate when you’re back in Australia?
What happened if someone sitting on the front seat when u open up the second row for third row ?
Second time review a car with left hand drive
They don't have it in Australia yet
I hope those cameras that monitor the driver, don’t flash red on and off constantly like in the video, it would drive you mad and be an awful distraction
Ah yes - you don’t see them. Just the effect from the camera.
With so much connection, won't be surprised if some cop is watching you.
i want this interior color and black exterior, sadly my wife wants this exact spec white on beige
Price ?
Still TBC. But it’ll be exxy.
Looks claustrophobic for a huge car
It’s actually super roomy - just not so much in the third row.
I also like the a/c wind blowing directly on my face
Paul why are your videos are so long bro?
Lol - they are short compared to the U.K channel "OSV Car Reviews" - they go into absolutely *excruciating* detail! 😃
Detail! As always you can skip ahead to other parts of the video easily.
Hi Paul,
How does it comparing to Model X?
Model X has all doors automatically opens/shuts even charging port.
This things doesn't seems have any!
Have a feeling the MERC ev's are not there yet in terms of external design , all their EV models look a bit blobby
I am not a SUV fan but that thing looks very nice. Definitely needs the hyperscreen though, that other iteration just doesn’t belong in such an impressive looking vehicle. Thanks for a great review Paul.
Agree - I’d definitely get the hyper screen. It really completes the interior.
the hyperscreen is terrible
Detailed video 😊

It's like the acceleration boost for the long range model 3. Some people just don't want or need it.
Unfortunately it’s the world they’re moving to.
Note the 0-100 time is actually at nearer 35.00 mins. 5.6 secs if you can't be bothered.

Truly stunning and impressive suv. Inside and out....
Agreed!
For the price. You would hope it was
Many others have also reported the awkward programmed brake-pedal interactions. I'm hesitant to commit to immediate purchase singularly because of this.
Big error omitting the "froot". Screw the stupid filter
Please review bmw XM new
one coming
well it's looks very good

Those who came here to tell Paul to review the next gen Everest asap. 😅 ❤
Mercedes❤
It's gonna be interesting to see what Mercedes-Benz / AMG brings us this year in 2023
so much tech and so many things to fix when they break
If the so called towing range is anything like the new Ford F-150 Lightning, it’ll also be useless! On that topic, what is the Merc’s real world range Paul? That interior colour will be terrific to keep clean with young kids!🤪👍🏼🤣
Range depends on the model you pick. But up to 660km WLTP for the base.
Driving a bunch of ipads on wheels. What a time we live in

Oh look! Australia is now changed to left hand drive!
Temporarily!
you forgot to mention NIO ES8, it can compete with these brands any day
Gigabytes per second? That would be a storage speed metric
You sure you didn’t mean giga flops?
Good question! This is what Benz said: “8 CPU cores, 24 GB RAM and 46.4 GB per second RAM memory bandwidth are some of the MBUX technical data.”

Where is “includes paid promotion” prompt? 😂 or rather “it is a paid promotion”
This and the sedan don't really look S class worthy.
Electric lemon,so much electronic
Beautiful interior but not a fan of exterior looks ..
This is shit how much did you say it costs keep your EV give me diesel all day every day
It’s exterior design looks like the Honda suv
Plenty of room in the back to carry a petrol generator
Me gusta mercedes benz para Mama vera

All this tech screams faults and service charges from merc to me
Klobiges Design mit viel Bling Bling. Nach einem Monat geht es dann los ... Ein Werkstattbesuch nach dem anderen. Schlechtes Konzept.
I hate touchscreens
