I used the Instead discs, they were said to be disposable discs, but I did clean and reuse them. I wish I knew that there were these reusable disc around. I did try a couple menstrual cups, but found that I could never get the proper suction. I've stopped menstruating now, but share your info with my daughters and others who are still menstruating.
I got some disposable discs to try first and I’m so glad I did. I’ve tried two brands and have decided they’re just not for me. Pulling them free with the “hooking finger” method just created this painful dragging sensation on my pubic bone (where the disc was notched into place) and the rim was just so thick that I was cramping with them in with certain movements. I’m trying the Sensitive menstrual cup from Lena today (it’s extra flexible) and I like it better but it’s taking some getting used to, figuring out how far up to place it, making sure it opens, feeling the suction tug a bit with movements throughout the day…hopefully I get used to it
I’m sorry but can I just add, this is my favorite “model”! There’s something about the netting that has really clicked in a realistic interpretation and I would love to see it used to compare where the cup sits in comparison to the disc.
I was seriously considering trying menstrual cups because I had such a heavy flow and was tired of spillage. I still like these educational videos even though now I have no use for most menstrual products. 😅 I got the birth control implant in my arm and my flow lightened up considerably although now my chief complaint would be spotting all the time.
I know I’m 6 months late, so maybe you’ve tried something, or maybe you have it figured out, but if you find one that works for you, it shouldn’t cause to much spillage. I normally use the diva cup however on my heavy days it’s a mess. I bought a bunch of menstrual products to try out for my January cycle and ended up pregnant so the search for what works for me is on pause for however long my period decides to stay away while I breastfeed.
speaking of arm implant and always spotting, it goes away about 6-12 months after insertion 😂 it’s annoying but worth it bc i’ve had the arm implant for a couple years now and i have a period probably once every 3-4 months. and the spotting went away lol. i’d heard that if the spotting is bothering u your dr might be able to prescribe a oral contraceptive to help combat it, but having an implant and taking oral contraceptives seemed redundant to me 😂
I love the flex discs! Auto empty for public is great. The reusable one is a little trickier to get the hang of for insertion but def my fav for a tilted uterus
Make sure to bear down when removing, like you do when pooping. This uses your vaginal muscles to help push it out of place and make it easier to reach.
You may have a low cervix and may need to try a smaller product. Also, being scared/stressed while inserting or removing can make it harder and that can cause more pain (at least from my experience it always sucks more when I’m annoyed with it than when I don’t care)
@@peacelovewar98 Thank you! Any suggestions on a low-cervix-friendly product? Does that mean I have a shorter, um... Vagina? I mean, I'm a short gal (dear me that sounded so weird), I'm five foot (152 cm) and I wonder if my height has anything to do with it. Maybe I'm just shorter everywhere. LOL
@@RemyDarling I’m not sure on the shorter vagina issue, I never got around to testing out anything past a diva cup. I bought a bunch of new products and then got pregnant. My diva cup didn’t seem to fit very well in the first days of my period so I’d just use some reusable pads or regular pads until later in my period when it seemed like my cervix moved up and the diva cup was more comfortable. I think I’m using the diva cup 1 even though I’ve had a child and the 2 is recommended for me.
I would say so, yes. The suction on cups can be difficult to deal with. You just have to squeeze the disc to insert it, but a cup has to be squeezed and folded and it’s a bit difficult one-handed. A disc is also less rigid so it’s easier to seat under the cervix. It’s also really clear when a disc is seated properly (you shouldn’t feel it at all). However as discs don’t create a seal with suction they can pop when full, so if you are learning how to use them, first try them on a lighter day, preferably when you are home all day. On a light day you should be able to go 12 hours without a problem. A rough rule of thumb is that you can go at least twice as long with a disc than you would with a pad or tampon.
I haven't got my period yet but I am sure that I will get it this year my sister didn't know nothing about periods when she got hers so I don't wanna be clueless like her I learned something from her and also from this channel I have educated myself for my period one mistake my sister did is she went on a rollercoaster when she had her period we were about to cancel the trip for that but she didn't want to and one more thing she doesn't feel cramps btw I am 11 years old 😀
Flex disk may not be the reusable product for you. It could have been to small or to big or your period could have been to heavy and you may have been overflowing it without realizing. I leak through my diva cup and I’ve had it for… 5-6 years if not more by now. I finally bought different products to try and ended up pregnant so I won’t be using them for awhile.
The way you pull it out so easily, does it hurt for you to not make it smaller first? The first time I tried to take a CUP out, I was in a lot of pain. But, I’m not sure if that was because of the suction or size of the cup, so, I’m curious.
I’m new to all of this stuff so I am by no means an expert but my best guess, it was the suction that caused the intense pain you felt. I’ve felt it before too and was like 😳😩🫣😖 all at once! I found that with a CUP specifically it helps to pinch it some/break the seal before attempting to pull it out. Personally since switching to the disc style I have not had the suction issue and I absolutely love it! Also I have found that I am able to “auto dump” (I believe that’s the correct term lol) when using the disc which is an added bonus because my flow is superrrr heavy and I tend to fill up multiple times before that 12hr window is up! So not having to take it out those multiple times 3-4 times within that 12 he window is superrrr nice and way less messy! 😇 This channel has sooo much amazing information on it! I’m so grateful to have found it! Hope my little bit of insight was helpful! Be well! ☺️
@@leobeboop4944 Auto dumping is when the disc releases the blood automatically. Idk exactly how it works (I think smth to do w/using the muscles used to pee), but it seems it doesn't happen when you're just sitting/standing normally, only when you're using the restroom (from what I've read). Disclaimer: I've never used a disc before, and am only on a researching spree cuz I'm interested in reusable options. Please point out if I typed anything wrong;;
Please explain how they do not suction. I've always been skeptical about that. We all know suction and vaJJ don't go together. Please this is a genuine question
They just sit between the pubic bone and the other wall of the vagina below the cervix. It stays in place because it's wide and sits tucked under the pubic bone, not because of the suctiom
Cups suction and they are perfectly fine. Just break the seal before removing. If you’re not willing to get dirty yet then get over it. No matter what you choose, you’re getting dirty at some point.
My problem with these bad boys is how it pops open. Right against the sensitive flesh of my privates. So damn painful. It reallllyyy makes tampons seem indulgent in comparison
I tried the flex disk for a couple cycles and could never get it to stay in place up there. It would never seal right and end up leaking. Switched to a menstrual cup and it's been amazing
I'm in the same boat but the discs are great for floods. Yeah you'll still need a pad but it greatly reduces leakage when doubled up like that vs a tampon where I bleed so fast it like it bleeds around the tampon or too fast for it to absorb. Plus I get less irritation from not having to insert and remove so many tampons. Ymmv but especially at night try it with period panties, no more ruined sheets.
I have a brand new disc I'm kind of afraid to use it though just because it seems like it will be complicated to remove. But since I've checked out your vids I think I'm gonna use it this period coming up
I've been told that the only body safe silicone is the silicone that doesn't have colorants in it. Is that true and if so why do all these menstrual products contain colorants? It seems unnecessary
Does it have any benefits versus a menstrual cup? I've been using my menstrual cup for 8 years and I love it. Is there any difference between a cup and a disc?
We had the flex at one point, and I couldn’t figure out how to put it in right. The box even had a website you could use to see a tutorial, and it still didn’t work. I’m now 19, got my period at 12, and haven’t tried any menstrual cups. I’m thinking of trying one, but don’t know what kind to use
I am certainly Not an expert but i personally found it more difficult to use the Cup because you have to Insert it right and it is relatively "big", so i think it helps to have experience with Tampons to then use Cups. I never used a Disk before but it looks big too. I think it is easier to try tampons first because they are more slim and so more easy to use. Just remember to Change them at least every 8 hours.
I personally would test out tampons first because the cups are more of an expensive investment upfront and you can purchase tampons just about anywhere. Tampons are a bit slimmer and less hands on, so it's easier in that regard too. Cloth pads and period undies seem like a good start too because you can use those for excessive discharge too if you want. (Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations of any particular brands as of now.)
Hey I'm 15 and I tried one and it got sucked to my cervix and I gave it another shot and I when to the doctors and they said women shouldn't use because of bacteria and blood clots so is there one that you recommend that won't get sucked to my cervix. I pinched and tried to release pressure, but it didn't work
Does it hurt to take it out since it's all expanded unlike putting it in? And if it auto-dumps, how long can you actually keep it in without taking it out and washing?
I haven’t used a disk yet, but for a cup, I’m pretty sure it squishes back up. It doesn’t hurt to remove it. If it auto dumps, I’d still suggest removing for cleaning based on the recommendation of which ever product you’re using.
I have the first Ziggy cup and.. ugh. It's a pain to get in, it doesn't sit well and stays up behind my pubic bone. I just use the cups. I don't even bother with it anymore.
I don’t know if there is something wrong with my body or if I’m just dumb but I have tried disks and cups and they don’t work at all for me. Neither do tampons though. It’ll be bone dry leaking around it.
It could be that you have the wrong size, but even regardless, it doesn't mean that there's something wrong with your body if it doesn't work for you, not everything works for everyone and that's fine.
I tried a menstrual cup (flex) a week ago and the pain was terrible. Looked up tutorials on how to put it in and I did everything right, just terrible pain the entire time. I'll have to try a different type and try again but if anyone has advice I'd appreciate it)
Question: what’s the different types of flows? Like what is a heavy one like or normal one I honestly don’t know what kind of flow I have cause I don’t have anything to compare it with, and I’ve asked people and they’re not very helpful, And the internets no help I just don’t know. Any replies will be much appreciated 😊
It is considered that you have a heavy flow if you bleed more than ~80 ml/period. Basically, if you have to change a night time always pad after 4 hours or less, you have a heavy period. Or if you use a cup, you can estimate how much you bleed in volume. I bleed around 150 ml per period and when I used tampons I was changing those super absorbant tampons every 2-3 hours.
@@SayaSayonaraSayora thanks for replying, that’s really helpful case I never really understood when people said it in measurements. I have a retroverted uterus and I've used menstrual cup almost a year in all sizes and types and it leaks every time I use it.. so today I am trying a menstrual disc.. so finger cross...
How about sharing some different sizes!! My cervix is naturally low and I cannot get normal sizes to fit. Like it is legit painful to try and force it up behind my pubic bone and yes I’ve checked that’s it’s pushed back far enough. I’ve even done it at the gyno. “Just get a smaller size” FROM WHERE? Give me a brand to throw my money at damnit! I certainly can’t seem to distinguish them from size to size and Vaginas are NOT one size fits all 😕
So here is my thing with reusable menstrual disks. Can someone who uses them please help? I really want to get some. I know it would save me a fortune on period products and I already know I prefer the fit of a menstrual cup/disk to a tampon or pad. However, I've only ever used disposable ones. When you pull them out to empty them, how well do they empty? I'm worried it might feel gross to put it back in still dirty. How do you clean them and how often? Could I just rinse it off in the sink or do I need special cleaner? How inconvenient are they in public restrooms? Again, I feel like putting them back in dirty would be a pain but unless it was a single occupancy restroom it would be really hard to clean it before putting back in.
I actually gave up on cups and went back to pads because they're impossible to empty and reinsert in public bathrooms, especially if you have a heavy flow and need to do it several times. It also makes a massive mess even in my own bathroom and they just hurt.
A cup is less flexible than a disk, thus you're actually creating a seal up there with a cup when you pinch&insert it. That prevents spilling like it can happen with a disk. Also, cups tend to have bigger volume than disks, so they can last longer, but due to being less flexible and larger, cups are also more noticeable/potentially uncomfortable, and may be harder to remove with the sealing.
Here’s my story for anyone interested. I’m 16 and I have a very low cervix. I’ve tried 2 cups, the saalt small (soft) first which I could never get to open and get in fully without pain so I got a smaller cup, the all matters mini. At first it was pretty good although I was very aware/could feel it, but I really wanted it to work so I kept trying for about 5 months and this month I decided I was done with it because of how much pain, I think the pain was from the cup pressing up against my cervix but I don’t know how to fix it because the cups had no where else to go because of my low cervix. I’m thinking about trying a disc but what do y’all think? Any advice?
I believe I have a low cervix, however I could be wrong. The diva cup (size 1) worked for me. They have a size 0 now I believe. I know this response is 4 months late, I hope you have found something that works for you!
You don't have to do Menstrual Disks right away, I personally used pads my first couple periods which don't involve putting anything in your vagina, then when you are more comfortable you can switch to something like a Tampon, Menstrual Disk, or Menstrual Cup.

I’m trying the Sensitive menstrual cup from Lena today (it’s extra flexible) and I like it better but it’s taking some getting used to, figuring out how far up to place it, making sure it opens, feeling the suction tug a bit with movements throughout the day…hopefully I get used to it
“Pinching” is not as easy as it sounds
Thank you. It really helped me to see that they should be pulled upwards as much as possible
I’m sorry but can I just add, this is my favorite “model”! There’s something about the netting that has really clicked in a realistic interpretation and I would love to see it used to compare where the cup sits in comparison to the disc.
The model is sort of half finished but the great news is that the remaining part is going to be here soon! It’s a DIY model
i agree the flexibility of the model helps to gauge how it would feel/react to my body lol at least in my mind
Yeah, these would make a mess, definitely sticking to my cups. Thanks for this info video!! 💜
I'm not having any luck. I've tried. This is probably the best tutorial I've seen so I'll try again.
Make sure to bear down when removing, like you do when pooping. This uses your vaginal muscles to help push it out of place and make it easier to reach.
This is just giving me anxiety.. I never used tampons because the idea of it getting lost up there is a nightmare, this look 10x worse
How do these even FIT? I've tried six different reusable products and they just DON'T fit and leave me feeling bruised and hurting all the time.
Are discs easier than cups for beginners?
@@KatharineOsborne thanks!
Plus there's no sizing to get right.

I haven't got my period yet but I am sure that I will get it this year my sister didn't know nothing about periods when she got hers so I don't wanna be clueless like her I learned something from her and also from this channel I have educated myself for my period one mistake my sister did is she went on a rollercoaster when she had her period we were about to cancel the trip for that but she didn't want to and one more thing she doesn't feel cramps btw I am 11 years old 😀
Thank you for posting this. Gonna save for you Hello disc and possibly another brand. Using the Reusable Flex disc for now
I use a cup and it does wonders. I have never tried discs, it just looks like it might splash everywhere
I prefer my hello disc over my flex cup. So much easier to get out and less mess for me.
Just checked out my Lumma disc! Wish me luckkkkk 🤞
I tried to use a flex disk but I kept leaking, I have no clue how to get them in the correct place
Flex does have a video on their website, and at least when I first ordered in 2019, they had email support for all new users.
Also, some discs have a very hard rim.
Be well! ☺️
@@krislamotte489 what do you mean by auto dump? (Sorry)
@@krislamotte489 what is auto dump? Is there a drain or something
@@leobeboop4944 Auto dumping is when the disc releases the blood automatically. Idk exactly how it works (I think smth to do w/using the muscles used to pee), but it seems it doesn't happen when you're just sitting/standing normally, only when you're using the restroom (from what I've read).
Disclaimer: I've never used a disc before, and am only on a researching spree cuz I'm interested in reusable options. Please point out if I typed anything wrong;;
Please explain how they do not suction. I've always been skeptical about that. We all know suction and vaJJ don't go together. Please this is a genuine question
Go watch other videos about them! This isn't at all what I've seen on other things@
It reallllyyy makes tampons seem indulgent in comparison
the hello disc is great but it just is not mess free. idk why but every time i remove it i have to use more than one finger and it makes a mess.
I have it too. I can remove with one finger, but I always make a mess regardless of how many fingers I use.
I find the Flex collapses while I am wearing it and it doesn’t hold as much as it’s advertising… does this happen to anyone else? 😕
I tried the flex disk for a couple cycles and could never get it to stay in place up there. It would never seal right and end up leaking. Switched to a menstrual cup and it's been amazing
My Flex disc got stuck I had to go to the ER ☠️
It’s extremely painful to remove. Why is no one talking about that? Beware of the pain during removal!
It's also painful to get in. I mean, with an opening this huge it probably wouldn't - but not every woman is that huge.
I’m a petite woman and it’s not painful. It’s folds to about the size of a tampon.
I wish I could use products like this but I just bleed SO much it’s insane. The mess would be unbearable.
Are they available in india too ?? 🙂👀
I have a brand new disc I'm kind of afraid to use it though just because it seems like it will be complicated to remove. But since I've checked out your vids I think I'm gonna use it this period coming up
I've found discs that are $10 and some that are $35. Is one better or are they all the same?
It does not seal with suction so it doesn't seal?
I've been told that the only body safe silicone is the silicone that doesn't have colorants in it. Is that true and if so why do all these menstrual products contain colorants? It seems unnecessary
Right. I mean the only person seeing it is yourself. Definitely seems like they could just keep them colorless
I mean this does seem like a good question to research for yourself on Google.
Yeah... I'm sticking with period pants, thanks. This looks like actual hell.
How can you remove with nails on
Does it have any benefits versus a menstrual cup? I've been using my menstrual cup for 8 years and I love it. Is there any difference between a cup and a disc?
The first one seems the best for removal
We had the flex at one point, and I couldn’t figure out how to put it in right. The box even had a website you could use to see a tutorial, and it still didn’t work. I’m now 19, got my period at 12, and haven’t tried any menstrual cups. I’m thinking of trying one, but don’t know what kind to use
If somebody's only ever used a pad, and wants to try other stuff, with what should they start?
Cup, tampon or this disk thing?
(Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations of any particular brands as of now.)
could you please try 'sanfe' or any Indian brands
Okay but how do I make it from the toilet to the sink w/o the mess❓
Like what is a heavy one like or normal one
I honestly don’t know what kind of flow I have cause I don’t have anything to compare it with, and I’ve asked people and they’re not very helpful, And the internets no help
I just don’t know.
( I’m really bad with working measurements out)
And my mum would just flat out avoid talking about periods so I didn’t have anyone to I guess teach me? But thanks cause now I know I don’t have a heavy period
Discs are not so difficult to use as they might seem 🙃 I usually bear down a bit to push my ziggy down, and then I just take it out using two fingers.
Apparently mine is shaped in such a way I can’t use tampons. Will these work for me or should I just stick with pads?
My uterus tilts backward. I find it difficult to insert completely despite pushing as far as I can with my finger. Any advice?
Please make a smaller hello?
Thank you!!
I certainly can’t seem to distinguish them from size to size and Vaginas are NOT one size fits all 😕
How does the blood not go everywhere when you take them out?
Won't those with long nails puncture most of these disc?
Can you compare the hardness of the hello disc and nixit?
What's the difference between disk and cup, other than disk is more shallow?
A cup is less flexible than a disk, thus you're actually creating a seal up there with a cup when you pinch&insert it. That prevents spilling like it can happen with a disk. Also, cups tend to have bigger volume than disks, so they can last longer, but due to being less flexible and larger, cups are also more noticeable/potentially uncomfortable, and may be harder to remove with the sealing.
what about Quora? that's what i've been seeing in most stores. also can it be used with an IUD?
Where do you live? That is a brand I haven't heard of. As for IUD, there is helpful information here: periodnirvana.com/iud. It's a nuanced topic
What cup is your favourite/ most convenient?
Does it not spill everywhere at the end when it suddenly pops open ?
What if you have a tilted (like a L kinda shape) uterus like mine; how would cups & discs work? Never tried them; would it be more difficult?
Can you do a little more about first periods plz
I could never get those discs to not leak while I have no issues with cups
Are the disks uncomfortable
Is the hello disc ok for a high cervix?
Can you use a disk with a prolapsed uterus?
Felicito a quienes lo usan, que arte… yo lo veo y me quedo con mis toallitas😅
I used a cup before and had to go to the ER for them to take it out💀
Lol same! Never again, maybe discs are different?
The discs never haver worked for me they slide out when I put them in. That being said the cup works great for me
Can you show removing a disc with fake blood in it??
Any of these made with a long stiletto shaped notch?
I have to reach around my pubic bone to retrieve my notched Cora; my pubic bone is in the way and I can't just reach straight in.
All I see is blood flying with the way you tug them out!!
