6:12 interesting, because I see much more highlights protection but shadows you can bight up in program and you will see how much information is in sony files, you cant do it with gopro files. Second in sony you still have ground color, gopro has only 100% highlights. In photography way is better to have more shadows than highlights. Everyone seems to rave about the Gopro's blowing the Sony away. In my experience using both, the Sony never has an issue where you wonder if it's still recording while riding, particularly if it is overheating. The Sony just works consistently. The Sony also doesn't need to crop the video to stabilize it, allowing you to keep more of your subject in the frame which is a big deal to me. I have used both mounted on my helmet for week long trips so dependability is a big deal for me, and the Sony wins for me every time
Gopro is clearer visually and the stabilization is better but it is too smooth for motorcycle riding, it's more like drone footage. Colour is better on the Sony although not as sharp picture. Yeah I totally agree on the stabe man, wish the GoPro had a Sony-like stabilisation setting. That was set on the lowest setting as well 🙄 Wish the Sony didn't have such a muddy look, if the quality was a little better it would be my choice hands down. But even the 4k on the Sony doesn't look real good. Maybe it was designed by fkn yowies, they didn't want anyone getting clear footage of them 😬

Before watching this video I'm going to stay the Sony action camera has always had amazing image stabilization great image quality It's just sad that they don't continuously make them anymore and they were one of the only high-quality competitors to GoPro they had a 3.5 mm headphone jack. So you didn't need some weird adapter like what GoPro makes you use
don't look strait on this wideo, this x3000 has lens issue (is popular issue for this cam, after little crash or hit to cam). look is cetral point of picture is blur and edges is sharp. another look at 5:36 and close up image is amazing sharp but blur background (it has fixfocus is it imposiblem to lens bokeh(blur)), it is because one lens in boss module move and move focus point... that's why x3000 is good but very weak cam. For real action is better to buy gopro/dji/insta360
Interesting comparison. The Gopro will have the advantage with the stills as it has a higher resolution sensor, also when you have the camera in Hypersmooth it also runs at a high shutter speed giving less motion blur. For fast paced action stuff the Gopro is the winner. If you are indoor or vlogging to camera the Sony has the advantage, lower shutter speeds give more motion blur for a smoother look and less of a fish eye distortion effects from the lens. Colours are also more natural (notice the blue-purple sky vs the Gopro blue only sky) and mainly for Ozzys it has native PAL support which was dropped on the most recent 2 Gopro generations.
I dunno if it's the same thing or not but you can still set the GoPro 10 to 50Hz on the anti-flicker which gives ya 25/50/100 fps instead of 30/60/120 etc 👍
I think the Gopro looks a bit more detailed. But I guess you need to look at battery life memory life, cost etc. That's what would be the winner for the user.
Yessir, the Sony wins pretty much every category other than picture quality (in my opinion) which makes it a difficult choice cause picture quality is pretty important to me!
Usually it's set on 60 but I wanted to try 30fps as it appears that the camera shoots 50mbps for both 30 & 60 so I had a theory that 50 megabits spread over half the number of frames in any given second might equal twice the quality, but sadly no 😁
When i watched on my phone they looked very similar but on the computer the gopro looked a bit sharper . Both work though ...most of the time haha, Cheers sir.
got a gopro8 black and I hate it. crashing every 10clips. audio is shit. image quality too. GPH10 is bigger and heavier than my mirrorless camera it does not make sense for me... my conclusion is that i'm gonna leave DJI and GOpro to switch on sony.
X3000 has optical stabilisation and hence superior to software processor based stabilisation where gopro will oversharpen giving you a harsh action camera look and this is reflected in the image quality hence why they are still commanding top dollar on the second hand market
GoPro has my vote tho the Sony gives more sense of speed due to the stabilisation not being as good as the GoPro. End of the day 99% of people won’t see the difference between the two unless you tell them.
Motion clarity on the GoPro hands down. I liked the "pop" on the Sony. But in the end its a motorbike channel and motion is important, to me anyway. Audio was fine on both. I think the audio sounded nicer on the Sony.
Josh, so good to see the side by side comparison. In my opinion the Gopro was sharper and more defined, and I thought the better picture quality. The audio on both cameras was very similar, however at 100 kph the Sony mic was not as good. I suppose the Sony no longer available, gives the Gopro the advantage. 👍😁
Yeah agree mate not much point looking to purchase a Sony unless you can pick one up 2nd hand, but possibly some folks out there are wondering if it's worth the coin to jump to the GoPro 😬 Happy NYE Bob! 🍻
Gopro seems to have slightly better dynamic range. The dirt in the off-road ride looked a little more red on the Sony, but of course I wasn't there so I can't say which one was closer to true colour. Both are really good cameras! If you've got a Sony then I don't think it would make sense to spend the money to buy the Gopro. I've got the Sony and it's a great, simple, reliable camera. I've also got a Gopro 7 black and I like the features and image quality but I HATE the buggy firmware.
Agree with all you say mate, and yeah I think that dirt colour difference was the white balance playing silly buggers. It's hard to get 2 different cameras to look exactly the same without properly colour grading each scene but fuck that noise lol. They are both good cams, GP has the edge on quality, Sony definitely owns the reliability 😭
Overall the Gopro seems to better in detail.Colour from sony seems to be over saturated at times.I would just live with the Gopro. On balance you could live with either. Thanks for the comparison.
Cheers Bruce yeah I think I will stick with the GoPro until if/when it's unreliability causes me to rethink my life choices 😅 Either way the GP makes an excellent 3rd camera for off the bike filming so it will not go to waste 👌
Both are great. It’s the content that really matters, so if one is more reliable and easier to use than the other, then maybe that’s going to be better in the long run as your main forward looking camera. I hate it when you find out later that the camera froze and you lost some good footage Cheers .
The stormtrooper is vulnerable up against the dark side of the gopro force. I have a gopro hero 8, and find the quality and sound is better than sony. The sony is my choice for the helmet, simple and easy to use. The gopro for mostly everything else. Happy new year J & N.
Ripper comparison vid I think the sony for colour , the go pro for stabilisation , Sony and drift mic for sound , and the go pro for the wider range of view , and you can see it delivers more detail , compareo on the black 10 and the DJI action 1 ?
Thanks Scott, I could do something similar with the Osmo for sure just need to bodgy up another temporary mount. And then wait for it to stop raining in Qld 😭🙄 Happy NYE mate 🍻
Well josh I reckon they both have there differences in a good way and not so good so whatever you use will look awesome ether way. So happy new year 🥳 to you both and don’t drink too much and stay out of trouble lol cheers 🍻
Thanks mate yeah I guess most people wouldn't really give a shit which camera but thought some of these basterds might be interested in a side by side 😎 Happy NYE to you mate 🙌
Attended a pre holiday party last night, woke up with a bit of a hangover. The split screen video was not helpful. 🥴 I reckon out of the 4 or so screens, the 2 on the left edged out the others. (+Sony) Oh well that was interesting, LOL. 👍🏼 🍾 🍺 🥂 Happy New Year 🎆 🎊👍🏼
The gopro is clearly sharper when looking side by side. Use whichever is the easiest to use. If your gopro is 100% hassle free like the sony, I might eventually make the move.
The colours on the Gopro looked more natural to me, the Sony looked like it darkened them. Not sure if that is how to describe it. For instance, the landscape looked more lush type colours on the Sony, and a bit more dry on the Gopro.
Could have partly been my dodgy grading although I did only add what I thought was a reasonable amount of contrast and satch to them both 🤷♂ Guess it boils down to quality or reliability 😭 Thanks for the input mate 🍻
Interesting. Never had a GP myself. I got the Sony based on being happy with an older model Sony (lost the bugger - somewhere😠), and wanted the stabilization of the Sony. Have you tried comparing Sony's active versus standard setting? Sometimes the active looks TOO smooth to me. Sony looks more "natural" in colour - warmer tint, compared to the cooler blue of the GP to me. How did you do the white balance? Did you use a 50% grey card like some photographers use? Totally agree with comments on the Sony sound. It is a bitch to deal with the "hot" microphone. Do you always shoot MP4 format or have you tried the HD - XAVC S on the Sony? From memory, I think there are faster frame rates up to 1080 - 120p - 100M available. Lastly, the Sony seems to have a higher contrast where the GP looks a little washed out to me. Now you gotta start stuffing around with exposure compensation, if ya want to be really anal about the in-camera settings. So many settings! 😵
Nah never tried any stabe other than active on the Sony, it looks good to me a lot better on the bike than the gimbal-like GoPro 🤷♂ No nothing so technical with the white balance lol I just like the 5000k on the GoPro they say 5600 is the best for sunlight conditions but I find it too warm, just tried to match the Sony to that by eye but it seems to change depending on what you're filming not sure which one is inconsistent. Sony is set to XAVC yeah. Just wanted to try 30fps as it appears that the camera shoots 50mbps for both 30 & 60fps so I had a theory that 50 megabits spread over half the number of frames in any given second might equal twice the quality, but sadly no 😅 The contrast and shit is mostly my fault since they were both filmed in flat, I've tried reducing the EV on the GoPro but wasn't happy with the results. Yeah way too many settings sometimes it's best to just stick it all in auto and send it 😅 Cheers 🍻
I must admit. that the GoPro 10 video image and stabilisation looks more impressive. The GoPro has lower contrast and shows more detail in the shadows. However due to my past experiences with GoPro's, I will not be going back to them. The best thing I did in the action cam world, was switching to Sony. All my action cam problems disappeared once I made the switch. 😁👍🏼.
What problems did you have mate? I've had shitloads of trouble with GoPro which led me to switch to Osmo Actions a while ago, thought the reliability of GoPro might be improved with the new GP2 processor but no such luck really 🙄
@@MVDBR Well I've had three Go Pro's. Each one died very young and with little work. One decided that it would not turn on anymore. Another decided it would freeze at anytime, and it had a mind of its own. The third decided it would turn off, when ever it felt so. Like I've had enough already and I feel like a nap. The Sony action cam on the other hand, has worked without any problems and has greatly outlasted all three GoPro's combined. It's been a dream to own. 👍🏼😁
@@CamperKev yeah right ok thanks for the reply mate. I've had a number of GoPros over the years, the models prior to the 7 were great apart from no decent stabilisation, but ever since the 7s they have just been glitchy and unreliable in general. You're right, the Sony just works, every time. Starts recording relatively quickly, and just does a solid reliable job 👌 Wish Sony had gone down the route of updating it and releasing some new models.
Image quality is good for both, what matters most to me at this point is which is easier to use/charge/download from. What are your thoughts? What are accessories like for the Sony?
Plenty of accessories for both available but as I mentioned in the vid the Sony is no longer being sold so unless you can get one second hand you're SOL. Mate if the video quality was the same I would reach for the Sony every time, 100%. So much more reliable and easy to use.
the gopro had better detail when riding and stoped but the sony realy picked up the road conditions better and same on the rocky bush tracks 😁👍 i would be happy to watch your videos with what ever cameras you choose 😉👌
@@FilmingAustralia1623 yes gopro had better detail of the trees and stuff but you could see the where and tear on roads and the rocks and ruts way better on the Sony 😁👍i kept looking at the sonys screen as i kind a like it better , but each to there own 😉🍺
I have the non-4K Version of that Sony and it's an amazing Camera. I don't understand why the sharpness and "cispyness" is not visible in your video. Anyways, you can find the non4k for below 150 dollar and the 4k is about 200. Nice deals for a great camera and no overheating - but in some cases the 4k version might loose some image stabilisation because the Glue (?) got too hot and melted?
The bitrate is too low with the Sonys, also the form factor kinda sucks for attaching to a helmet. But the GoPro are overpriced and crash all the time. Can't win 😭
@@MVDBR the form factor is indeed a bit strange nowadays. I just got my motorbikes a couple of weeks ago and was looking to buy a GoPro 8 (preloved for 180 bucks). I dont want to spend that much for a GP10. Super hard decision... I don't want to get a 360 camera, because I dont use those things :/
@@SirHelios yeah the GP10 is pretty expensive but it's not quite so bad if you get it with the subscription and just cancel that a week later. Still over 500 AUD tho. If you can find a Hero 7 Black we had a few of those, great quality and a replaceable lens cover unlike the 8.
The GoPro is definitely lighter and more detailed than the Sony yet the Sony’s contrast brings out details the GoPro doesn’t in my opinion, so the burning question is which is the easiest to use from your point of view? I guess one day we’ll be able to get a matrix plug in the back of our neck plug a camera in so everything as we see it can be caught on video 🤣
Bring on the matrix plug! 😁 Mate the Sony's shape makes it a pain in the ass to mount to a helmet in my opinion, cause I do like the chin mount view best. But other than that, the Sony is 100% the better helmet cam. It's a no fuss, efficient and easy to use solution without any of the bells and whistles you don't need for such an application 👌
@@MVDBR With the Sony you must shoot in Vivid. The flat profile it's not good at all. At Vivid you only have to raise the contrast and saturation, but just a bit.
The GoPro does look better but the FOV on the Sony is still nicer, it's a shame Sony killed that camera line, they are still super popular with travel vloggers and IRL streamers (both old and new), the prices for used sony action cams are now ridiculously high as a result (many twitch IRL streamers hoard those cameras). A twitch IRL streamer was at big industry pro camera event in US and spoke to Sony's camera people, they were completely clueless about the enduring popularity of the Sony actions cams or the prices they now go for, no plans to bring them back.
Старичок Sony до сих пор во многих сценариях лучше. Обратите внимание на дорогу, как gopro плохо справляется. Ну и звук конечно, gopro так и не научилась качественно записывать звук
@@MVDBR This is true. No fogging issue once your on speed above 30 kph. On traffic situation on busy streets on summer midday, the lens does easily fogs up inside the waterproofing case.
Probably not, it's not noticeably better than any other GoPro since the 7. If you could get a Hero 7 2nd hand cheap that would be ideal 🍻 People around here are asking wayyyyy to much for them though
Amazing to think the FDR-x3000 was released in 2016. A year before the GoPro 6 black.

THANK YOU FOR THIS GOOD REVIEW PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONE OF THOSE HAS MORE ACCURATE COLOR
Neither of them is great at that but probably the Sony has more accurate colour straight out of the camera.
I run my FDR-X3000 on Vivid at 60 fps. Why are you running at 30 FPS? Just curious.
Usually it's set on 60 but I wanted to try 30fps as it appears that the camera shoots 50mbps for both 30 & 60 so I had a theory that 50 megabits spread over half the number of frames in any given second might equal twice the quality, but sadly no 😁
Still GoPro is the winner It's waterproof so you can do filming whatever weather condition.
Sony is waterproof in it’s included housing. But yeah GoPro image wins but I guess it’s so much newer.
what? you can sony too is has weather siling everywhere, so it is weatherproof, but not waterproof... it's a difference.
When i watched on my phone they looked very similar but on the computer the gopro looked a bit sharper . Both work though ...most of the time haha, Cheers sir.
Damn that fkn GoPro 😣
@@MVDBR haha
got a gopro8 black and I hate it. crashing every 10clips. audio is shit. image quality too.
Hey Barry, fancy seeing you here. I'm still using the X3000 in my vlogs.
Sony 👍👍
GoPro has my vote tho the Sony gives more sense of speed due to the stabilisation not being as good as the GoPro. End of the day 99% of people won’t see the difference between the two unless you tell them.
Yep 100% prefer the Sony stabe, thanks for the input Steve what camera are you currently using mate?
Motion clarity on the GoPro hands down. I liked the "pop" on the Sony. But in the end its a motorbike channel and motion is important, to me anyway. Audio was fine on both. I think the audio sounded nicer on the Sony.
Thanks for the comment man 👌
Gopro by far, but too smooth
You talk 100% sense mate but it's hard to go past that GoPro quality. I reckon I'll give it another chance or 2 and see how we go 😬🙈
The stormtrooper is vulnerable up against the dark side of the gopro force. I have a gopro hero 8, and find the quality and sound is better than sony. The sony is my choice for the helmet, simple and easy to use. The gopro for mostly everything else. Happy new year J & N.
Cheers FPP happy NY shagger 🍻🍻🍻🍻
Great comparison, the go pro just has it, but both look really good..
Thanks for the input Wayde 🤙
Helmet cam mount for the Sony is a clearance item at jb hi-fi atm folks.
@@MVDBR rain wtf , I need some of that it's 40+ and dry as a well you know how it goes , happy new years to you both too
@@scottbelshaw8704 I've seen how hot it's been over there, hectic! I got me hoodie back out yesterday, fkn whack ass weather 😣
GoPro😎👍. Nice little vid of the country.
Thanks mate, happy NYE 🍻
Well josh I reckon they both have there differences in a good way and not so good so whatever you use will look awesome ether way. So happy new year 🥳 to you both and don’t drink too much and stay out of trouble lol cheers 🍻
Thanks mate yeah I guess most people wouldn't really give a shit which camera but thought some of these basterds might be interested in a side by side 😎 Happy NYE to you mate 🙌
Thank you for this video please tell me which one has true accurate color please
My vote would be the GoPro 🤔 but you have to get the settings right
Attended a pre holiday party last night, woke up with a bit of a hangover. The split screen video was not helpful. 🥴 I reckon out of the 4 or so screens, the 2 on the left edged out the others. (+Sony) Oh well that was interesting, LOL. 👍🏼 🍾 🍺 🥂 Happy New Year 🎆 🎊👍🏼
Hahaha cheers Bradley 👀 Happy NYE mate 🍻
The gopro is clearly sharper when looking side by side. Use whichever is the easiest to use. If your gopro is 100% hassle free like the sony, I might eventually make the move.
I'd settle for 80% hassle free at this point 😭 100% reliable appears to be a pipe dream for GoPro, stick with the Sony mate 🍻
Really good picktures on both, l would use the one that works all the time without shutting down
Don't say that! Logic must not prevail! Haha thanks for the input mate you do talk sense. Happy NYE 🍻
Nah never tried any stabe other than active on the Sony, it looks good to me a lot better on the bike than the gimbal-like GoPro 🤷♂
No nothing so technical with the white balance lol I just like the 5000k on the GoPro they say 5600 is the best for sunlight conditions but I find it too warm, just tried to match the Sony to that by eye but it seems to change depending on what you're filming not sure which one is inconsistent.
Sony is set to XAVC yeah. Just wanted to try 30fps as it appears that the camera shoots 50mbps for both 30 & 60fps so I had a theory that 50 megabits spread over half the number of frames in any given second might equal twice the quality, but sadly no 😅
The contrast and shit is mostly my fault since they were both filmed in flat, I've tried reducing the EV on the GoPro but wasn't happy with the results.
Yeah way too many settings sometimes it's best to just stick it all in auto and send it 😅 Cheers 🍻
Sony for best video quality must use XAVC S HD , MP4 format are not good on X3000
Yep 🤙
@@MVDBR I agree with you. They need to release a new model or two. I'm ready to buy again, but I want to see an upgrade from Sony.
@@CamperKev I don't think it's gonna happen unfortunately but will keep fingers crossed anyway 🤞
So much more reliable and easy to use.
the gopro had better detail when riding and stoped but the sony realy picked up the road conditions better and same on the rocky bush tracks 😁👍
i would be happy to watch your videos with what ever cameras you choose 😉👌
@@FilmingAustralia1623 yes gopro had better detail of the trees and stuff but you could see the where and tear on roads and the rocks and ruts way better on the Sony 😁👍i kept looking at the sonys screen as i kind a like it better , but each to there own 😉🍺
@@jefftaswelder9154 Yes your quite right
@@jefftaswelder9154 thanks mate happy NYE 🍻
Good comparison, i like the go pro im a fan but was surprised how close they were 😎👍
Do you do any colour grading or tweaking on your vids Crug? Colours always pop 👌
@@MVDBR yeah always have a bit of a touch up, usually just play with curves 😎👍
@@crugwrf nice, I knew it 😉 cheers mate don't get too silly tonight 🍻
@@MVDBR bloody 12hr night shift hope you have a good one 🍻
@@crugwrf yuckkkkk don't miss those man. Hope they pay you the big bucks for missing out on all the illegal fireworks and barking dogs 😬
GoPro for sure
gopro is best detail in all aspects
I've never been real interested in 360 cams either
My GoPro Never cRaShEd!
I can just say the sony is still hands down way better
@@MVDBR there’s a $1000 Oz made helmet with a camera built into the chin gard
Yeah nahh 😁
Sony … wins , good comparison though. I wonder will dji or GoPro ever beat this camera .. which is… how many years old now ?
Sony wins on a lot of points but not image quality 😜
Maybe I'll hold onto mine and sell it for a ridiculous price 😬
1 question. what apps do you use for color grading?
Most video editing programs have some form of grading, I use Vegas Pro
why do you use 30fps on sony? it doesn't support 60fps?
I don't remember why but yeah it did do 1080p @ 60fps
Where's the flood footage, and you in ya boat xing the river lad.
1080 @ 30fps Sony vs 1080 @ 60fps for GoPro. You just wasted your time comparing apples with oranges.
No
This is a great comparison. I can pick up a Sony for $65 on Facebook with its case or on eBay for under 200 with a huge load of accessories.
GoPro Hero 10 Black looks better overall.
Yes I think it definitely has a clear edge in the quality dept. Cheers Dave have a good NYE mate 🍻
GoPro all the way mate
Yeah it's hard to go past that picture quality 😵
That dynamic range is making me dizzy
Haha me too mate 😁
DJI action 4)
Does the Sony overheat like the gopro?
I haven't had any overheating issues BUT when it's in the waterproof case it does warm up and the lens fogs up which is a real bitch 💩
@@MVDBR This is true. No fogging issue once your on speed above 30 kph. On traffic situation on busy streets on summer midday, the lens does easily fogs up inside the waterproofing case.
The GOPRO does have a lot shaper picture, but is it worth the cost???
Probably not, it's not noticeably better than any other GoPro since the 7. If you could get a Hero 7 2nd hand cheap that would be ideal 🍻 People around here are asking wayyyyy to much for them though
My eye keeps going to the sony, it’s just more immersive like some chicks look better in sweatpants
Like video... like channel
There no successor for the sony x3000
Yeah be good if there was
Sorry, but the GoPro is a lot better to watch, and even the audio seems better.
