Watching this in 2021, and thanks for the critical review of the X3000. You made it clear that 'looks' and gizmos, or even pictures at face value, are not the only concerns. Actually those raw pictures aren't great and you have to wonder why it's 4K-capable, if it doesn't really work.
GREAT video. I love it when I come across a video made by someone that actually knows how to give simple yet detailed usable information. You made color correction look easy. You need to do a color correction video! AND do it in a free editor so everyone can do it!
Great video bro. I’ve been using the X3000 for about 4 months now and you’re so right - the 4K (50 or 100 mbs) is only usable like you said when we’re filming something directly ahead with very little movement. I film 4K on a recent family trip and oh boy you’re right any movement and it would just distort almost skipping frames. Do suggest 1080 at 30 or 60 FPS for most clarity and sharpness and are you still using this camera? Thanks bro
If it is overexposuring every time, you can try to set exposure adjustment to -0.3. However, you shoudn't forget to set it back to 0 in lo light situations.
Great tips, thanks. I just got mine and hope to do a ton of shooting this summer. After watching this video, I will spend more quality time in post production. We can always do better!
I thought the before shots looked good but when u see the after shots u go wow what a difference. Will this is fun learning this editing stuff, I hope u keep doing it. Its fun Will to watch and learn. Tanx.
randy feaster honestly, I'm ish a beginner too and I just got one. I find it super affordable. Around 300usd. Not the cheapest in the market of coz but still on the cheaper end! And the quality is amazing!!
If 4K and slow motion is not your thing then get the HDR AS300R. It saves you money. The (R ) a the of the model numbers gets you the remote which I use all the time and would recommend. It is hard to order the remote that powers on and off the FDR X3000 and HDR AS300 camera. I am not sure they sell the Remote seperately for these two cameras. NOTE: The FDR X1000V camera can not be powered on and off with the remote. It does start and stop the recording but this is not good on my motorcycle because the battery always remains on and drains down faster I have the FDR X1000v, HDR as300 and FDR X3000. I record in 1080p 50Mps and found out rendering at 4K and uploading to RUclips makes a huge difference for action footage.
'Nice job on this video. I learned something and you are helping me choose my camera purchase. Just a little thing: Wear a shirt that has a bit more color contrast with your background (and with no graphics / ads). Thanks again for making this video.
Thanks for the tip. I just bought a FDR X3000 for my travel vlogs coz I loved the stabilisation and and compact design. Hopefully I'll learn it fast haha
Yeahh! I got it because I watched your sample footages! Convinced me to buy! It's always good to see what the camera turn out with real footages and you can know for sure!
+DaphyD_Adventures exactly!! It helps a ton. You should love the camera! As long as you do a little exposure correction, the footage is the best I have seen from a action camera. And it's super small!
I gotta say, the Raw footage really is good, sure color correction takes it up a notch, but again, this cam captures incredible footage. I'm done with GoPro.
Great advice and tips! Thanks for sharing ;) Note: it's not 100 megabytes it's 100 megabits (divide by 8 to get megabytes = 12.5 megabytes per second data rate)
Will you are a very "willing" teacher. You want to teach. Greatly appreciated. Please...make a tutorial on how you edit. Broad strokes. Not to much detail. And what to think before you upload it on RUclips. You have a lot of older subscribers that need a little push to start learning how to do this. Looking forward for more...
The reason the fast moving footage looks so bad is because of the fast frame rate. Fast frame rates look like crap to start with, then on top of that the compression cant keep up so you get blocky footage. Just need ND filters.
@@WillProwse I use this camera with premiere youtube presets. That way I can keep the quality. Big issue I see with this camera is some shots getting darker based on the daylight condition. Another issue I have seen at 1080 at 30p is the pronounced shakiness. This goes away at 60p because you have more frames to smooth the position change..Havent you experienced this?
Cheers mate great video helps a lot. I’ve been videoing in 4K but my laptop won’t play the videos. I’m guessing it’s because my laptop is old and only plays Hd. Are well back to the old drawing ✍🏻 board.
NICE VIDEO AND GOOD INSIDE. LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS CAMERA FOR STATIONARY SHOT OF MY TURNTABLES WHILE I'M MIXING LIVE (STREAMING LIVE) ON PERISCOPE OR FB. AND TO SEND VIDEOS ON TO YOU-TUBE. THANK YOU.....
Hi, thanks for the upload!! I have no experience in videoediting, premierepro or colorcorrection. How do you orientate with the whites, the contrast and the saturation? Exposior: all colors should be unter 100/255-line Blacks: on the line 0 whites: ? contrast: ? saturation? best regards
There is no universal answer. It is personal taste andd it depends on your LCD monitor color settings too. Photo processing workflow can be - 1.crop, rotation, lens correction... 2. white balance, exposure, whites, shades... 3. color corrections. Make edititng versions and take a break for 1 day and then check your editing again. It takes time.
Brother, beautiful video I am from India I got a same model go pro,I don't have apple computer I have windows 10 only what software I want to install for editing please help me🙏
Great video, but I think you are incorrect about the UHD or consumer 4K with this camera. And, if you throw a warp stabilizer at say a 5 or 7, then push the sharpening to about 10, it becomes butter smooth and loses nothing. I use this in all my videos - on RUclips. I have it mounted to a weighted GoScope (that holds two cameras) and the RV100V set at 120 fps for super slo mo. I switch between the two.... while on my bike. I do a lot of "color matching or enhancing" as you have done when going between shadow and direct sun. You are correct about the weighted pole, and so I have modified my GoScope with a cold shoe to hold my Rode VideoMicro and weights at the bottom for additional stabilization. This is an amazing little camera. Good review! Oh, and all my stuff if you want to see what I am talking about are up on my channel. I even used this for a quick clip in a commercial I shot. It is amazing!
HELLO DIY! I would like to downgrade from using all my big heavy Broadcast Cameras to the Sony FDR-X3000 because I do love shooting in 4k and very capable to edit it. I have an opportunity to purchase one with the remote monitor which I would absolutely need for my application! I found a used one online for around $350 plus many many others in the 400 450 and 550 & up range! Do you think I should go for it? what are your thoughts?
Thank you for those tips! I'm looking for a way to setup the camera for flat footage or d-log, to get as much data in the shots when i'm going into post production. any idéas? Another question, you talked about bad image in fast moving 4k footage. Could it be because limitations in datatransferspeeds on your memory card?
ah!!!!! finally i understood what i have bought thanks for the video going for a bike ride to some off roa bike trip, planned to fix it in helmet can you please educate us also on low light setting
What do you think is the best recording set up? I'm new to vlogging. I'll be recording just my every day Life. Do I need to be under MP4 or 4k? What else?
Love that video and the way you explain things. What do you use as a Dead-Cat? I've been using that cam for the first time on my motorbike, with the casing I can't here the motor and without, well.. I can't hear it neither because of the wind noise (even with wind reduction set to ON)
Is it true, there are problems with Premiere Pro software, that are caused when Adobe does an update? I have read past videos won't play after update and if you are in the middle of editing a video, you may lose it.
hi mate, can you tell me what settings i should use for a jet ski? I just want to set and forget. I'm not that tech savvy so would appreciate your thoughts
I mainly use mine on my motorcycle in case of accident what setting do you recommend also when I view it through my phone (s7 edge) on the app every image and video looks grainy i use the waterproof casing lens is clean and doesn't have any damage. please help
Thanks for your videos, I am in England and thinking in motorblogging soon and the FDR3000 seems the way to go. It looks like you are in a travel van too, can you do a review on that too?? I live far from work and I might do that too.
HELP! just got this sny x3000 took some videos BUT after file transfer unable to locate them? unlike gpro6 quik very easy to make video But Sony fdr x3000 where are my video files? can you help how to locate and create my video files...i have tried every way possible...feels like BIG thumbs Down for Sony for now? Thanks
Hey thanks for doing this video, it helped me a lot! I noticed the same thing about shooting the X3000 in 4K; I agree fast movement shots look downright horrible and compressed right out of the camera -- especially doing hiking videos like I've started doing. High detail moving objects like foliage look like a green matted mess, and mountains in the distance, while in focus loose all definition. I think this comes down to the small sensor size, it's just not up to providing the detail needed for 4K. Going to start shooting in 1080p 30p or even 24p (for that cinematic feel) and hope to have nice detailed shots... Garbage in - garbage out, as they say!
The Cam records great in high bitrates. You need a realy good card wich can handle high rate writing!! Not only reading wich is printed on the memory cards. Cards with REAL 100mbs writing are still expensive
Hi. Thanks for video. It really helped me. I want to ask. What kind of sdcard did you use for taking 4K video. I tried lots sdcard and gave lots of money but couldn’t take 4K video always gave errors. So what is the trick. Thanks again.

I had already bumped into these problems with this camera online.. before purchase.. but you summarised everything pretty well here, thanks !
Thanks Will. I have just got this cam and I am very excited to test it and get the most out of it!
Thanks for the tips! I recently got this camera and am trying to get the most out of it!
Really really useful! Possibly the best video in RUclips about the Sony X3000

Hi Will! Thanks for your tips, very helpful. Greetings from Poland!
+scanus thanks!!
I'm shooting my footage with this camera and I love it. I had no idea about the tip regarding exporting in 4k though.
Thanks!
Though you targeted the Sony Action Cam the mini tutorial really to all cameras. Thanks for sharing this!
+Scott Sturgeon that is true haha I didn't think about that. And glad I could help!!

Awesome tips! Just got this camera a few weeks ago and trying to utilize the best out of it!! 😎
Very helpful, I noticed strong distortions on RUclips, but I didn't have solution for that. Thanks.
Hi great tips for shooting with the Sony Fdr. Are you shooting with standard or vivid. Thanks.
Excellent educational video, you will not accept anything other than perfection and I love that 👍 Well done!
I gotta say, the Raw footage really is good, sure color correction takes it up a notch, but again, this cam captures incredible footage. I'm done with GoPro.
Great video!!! Just got the camera few days ago and still trying to get used with it 😊😊😊
Thank you for the tips!
Knowing that this camera always over-exposes, is it a solution to just decrease exposure in the recording settings?
I'm loving the camera, but still trying to get used to everything. Loving your vids even if I'm not a van dweller!
Great job bro! Thanks for taking the time to get this up.
Looking at getting this as a second camera. On sale at the moment here in Australia from $649 down to $389
Great video, exactly some of the problems I faced. Thanks!
Great tips dude, thanks for posting. I'm grabbing one of these cameras in a few days.
your review on this cam is great:) you do such great work:)
Thanks Will! Great video, I appreciate all your tech tips.
Will Prowse
if your Sony broke or was lost would you buy the same camera or try something else?
I was wondering the same...
for action cam stuff, yes. i have a few other go pros on hand and they suck.
Very helpful video! ✌🏼
Great advice and tips!
Thanks for sharing ;)

Takes longer though just a heads up

ohh ok i see. i will get a screen recording program so my videos look better and ill try to make that video for ya
Looking forward to it. Thanks!
Will Prowse that will be awesome!!!
Well done, easily understood and very helpful. Thank you.
I would love to export as 4k and have tried but it's hell of a wait on my old laptop.

It looks amazing and enjoyed you sharing your editing. It also shows that blogging is not easy. Much respect!
Great video.Very informative! Thanks!
Awesome video will!!!
That's really helpful!
Very informative video and keep up with you good work.
Another point is that you should always use RUclips presets when exporting from premiere..
I don't use premiere

I just got this camera per your awesome recommendations and tutorials. How do you stabilize the x3000 on a bike ride with that stick?
Cheers mate great video helps a lot. I’ve been videoing in 4K but my laptop won’t play the videos. I’m guessing it’s because my laptop is old and only plays Hd. Are well back to the old drawing ✍🏻 board.

+Nick Dem in vivid! Neutral just looks horrid. Even after you color correct. Vivid is closer to real life colors
Will Prowse thank you!
Nick Dem thank you! I was going to ask the same question.

thank you so much
amazingly helpful, thank you a lot!
nice tips...super thx.
Im using this to add creative clips in my films. What setting can you recommend? Great tutorial btw
Do you know if there are any gimbal adaptors for the Sony action Cam?
Thank you very well done

Sony optics on fdr x3000 best
