Thanks for the info. Just what I needed. Hands-on experience is invaluable...
I've been using the AS200V which is much like the AS20, the connections on the bottom and no mount when plugged in. It was cool to see the X3000 solves both of these problems(always a huge headache), thanks for the tip!
We have been using the Marshal CV502 cameras lately with pretty good results.
I use my GoPros but wish they had more video format options (just as you said). I’ll have to check out the action cameras. The 1/4-20 is pretty cool.
I'm using a Chinese made VIAU sdi camera and pretty happy with it. It just cost me about $150 and I believe it is a good deal. It has a 2.8mm-12mm zoom lens (not servo zoom) and can output 1080p/i sdi signal with many frame rate choices. It also did well in low light. The only con is the 12V 1A power, that means I can't use any normal power banks for phones to power it.
Can you provide a Link?
We have just bought our first used Sony Fdr X1000v as a 3rd camera option ( our main cameras are Sony Z7s). We run everything through Atomos SSD recorders (Ninja Blade or Samauri in 1080p) for recorded footage or OBS for live... currently we can only confirm the x1000 and x3000 have a clean output. Do you know which older cams also have that so important clean output as Sony do not list this information in the specs!... also I notice Ragecams do some interesting lens mods to remove the wide angle picture, have you tried any?
Great video! Aside from the from HDMI being in a bad spot, was the AS20 useful? Would it work with the BlackMagic ATEM Mini? Thanks!
Yeah, the AS20 is a really good camera. And it will work with the Mini.
Hey Doug, curious, do you think the FDX-3000 can be used as a webcam for a PC? My tower doesn't have an HDMI input, so I'm curious if the USB port is only power, and no data? Any idea?
The USB port doesn't pass any video.
Hello! Your video was very helpful, I want to start streaming and I have an fdr3000, can I use a micro usb cell phone charger to charge the camera? or do I need a portable charger?
sorry for the writing, I used google translate!
Most USB phone chargers should work.
Hi great video! U have a question! How can i configurate the camera X3000 ??? I can´t setting in my computer with ezcap capure video
The X3000 only outputs video on its HDMI port
@@djp_video I have the as50 , will it work on windows 10 for my son use for school at home?
What about latency? I don't have much problems with connecting my gopro (it uses EDID to set output format, so if plugged in to ATEM via HDMI works ok, if using SDI converters I need to have an EDID emulator), but it's lagging 3-4 frames over my Sony and Panasonic camcorders, and it's very noticeable when using it for drums on concerts and the like.
Thanks for the video.
There is a bit. But it’s better than the GoPros, as you can see in the video.
Hello Doug, thank you for this video, I do have a question. I am a Dj and as everyone else I have/need to do a few live streams, the problem is that I have NO Idea what do I need to do this, I do have both cameras but (once again) I have NO idea what do I need (cables, adapters, converters, etc) I am NOT a High Tech guy AT ALL =)
Can you please help ? Thank you
That's a little too complicated to get into in a simple RUclips comment. But if you're using cameras with HDMI outputs, take a look at the brand-new Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro. It has HDMI inputs and can stream directly to most online services, all in one device.
Do you know if either of the Sony units can output 720p50 on the live HDMI?
I haven't tried it, but the specs seem to indicate that they'll do 25p and 50p.
So if I have a couple of these and a Black Magic ATEM mini will they work well with OBS?
You can connect them directly to the ATEM Mini and stream through OBS, and yes they will work well for that.
Hello, I have a Sony AS50. On the back, it only has the option for a multi Micro USB and on the bottom is only a slot for the SD card. Is there a workaround for getting it to mobile live stream? Thank you in advance.
If you don't have HDMI your options are going to be limited and undesirable.
Do you found a solution for your cam? because I have that model and also I have the same question
@@JennyEkL No, Sorry, I haven't with this camera.
So I have a Sony HDR-AS300 action cam and I would like to use it as a webcam because its all I have at the moment and all the webcams online are sold out. I'd be using it to record/stream a drumset for twitch. What connections would I need to make it work? Is it Micro HDMI to HDMI and i just plug it into my computer? Or do I need an HDMI to USB converter to do that?
Computers don't come with HDMI inputs so you'll have to add some kind of capture device. The easiest way to connect is over USB. Once you have that you can connect the Micro HDMI output of your camera to the HDMI input on your capture device using an appropriate cable.
I've got one question: i have the As50 model but it only has multi usb port. How can i make live stream with that camera? It has an option inside the menu where it says "live"
I don't think the AS50 has HDMI output capability.
@@djp_video it only has usb connection, its kind of odd since the as20 its inferior than the as50!
What about the Marshall Dome Cameras? They offer straight SDI out. They also turn on when you give power to them so in a fixed install you can not forget to turn it on
I'm not familiar with any dome cameras from Marshall. Care to enlighten me?
I have just read about them on forums but I plan to buy one next month! I am looking into the CV-505. Maybe I will grab a few of those cheap lenses to check whats best for our drum set. I will give you an update!
Ah, their little POV cameras. I was confused by the word 'dome.'
I haven't personally used them, but I hear they're fairly good.
Hi, what output connection, do you use, to hook it up as a webcam? Either the HDMI port, or the usb. I own the FDR X3000, but I also have the previous generation HDR AS 100V , and would like to use it as a webcam . Also, I noticed that on the right side of the X3000 cam, there appears to be slots, near the lens of the camera, that mine doesn't have. Is this a redesign, by Sony, or did you put those slots in the camera yourself? I know that they have had problems with overheating, when the resolution is set to 4k,although I mostly shoot in 1080p60. Thanks for any info that you can give me.
I've never used these as a webcam. I could be wrong, but I don't believe they can be.
@@djp_video you used it as a webcam for this review lol.
@@caleyhall I’m not sure what you mean. There were neither any computers nor USB connections involved in this video.
Are you able to switch the camera on and off remotely? I would like to put mine high on the wall
You can start and stop recording remotely, but not power it on and off.
Can you please sapeak about ATEM television Studio Pro HD ? from Black Magic
I don’t actually own one so I couldn’t speak accurately or with any authority on that particular model.
I bought the X3000 a year ago and only recently I wanted to switch to indoor broadcast with OBS but I don't know how. Do you have a tutorial on it.
Thanks
I don't. I prefer hardware encoders over software, so I don't use OBS.
@@djp_video Like the Elgato?
My production company/truck does events for ESPN and CBS Sports.
The Marshall CV series cameras are the only POV style cameras we're allowed to use. HD-SDI out, multiple lens options, can't go wrong.
Why mess with a HDMI/SDI converters, and USB power supplies when you can get HD-SDI straight out, with a 12V DC power supply. Unbelievably simple, easy.
Those, of course, would be ideal. When you need an actual action camera with its own battery and whatnot (or recording, or stabilization, or 4K), it's nice to have something that serves dual-purpose.
How do you connect it to the computer for live streaming
In my case, I don’t. The camera connects to my video switcher, which in turn connects to a Teradek VidiU, which does the encoding and streaming
wondering if I can get a big of help here. I got an Sony Action Cam HDR AS20 lying around and was wondering if I can set it up as a webcam for live streaming. I have OBS installed and the cables but I can't seem to find documentation online on how to set it up for live streaming. Is it even possible?
The AS20 only outputs video on its HDMI port. So if you want to use it is a webcam you can get an HDMI-to-USB capture device.
@@djp_video how to setting hdr-as20 when work with HDMI capture card?
When you do live via the switcher do have the camera mode in Live or Movie. I have the same Sony camera. I plan to do what you are doing and send it via a switcher. So did you set it to Live mode? And how do I set the framerate when shooting live? Thanks for this video.
I just leave it in Movie mode.
@@djp_video Thanks for the quick reply.
@@djp_video So, I am having issues with the as300. Apparently you can't have it plugged into external power because it goes into USB mode and no longer shows any video. Am I doing something wrong because not being able to power it while shooting is very limiting.
Try another power adapter. They're a little picky about which ones they'll work with properly.
@@djp_video Thanks.
Does it output 4k through hdmi out?
Yes
I can't make it work, obs doesn't see the camera through hdmi cable
Do you have an HDMI capture device?
@@djp_video no, i don't know if i need it
You will. Computers don’t have HDMI inputs normally, so you have to add one with an HDMI capture device. There are many available, starting at under $20, that will work well.
@@djp_video thats what Im saying, i have the input. I have hdmi input on my laptop
@@Hewego What laptop is that? I've never seen a laptop with a built-in HDMI input
how to stream on Twitch?
Ustream sux.
Watch the following video, substituting Twitch for RUclips -- they both use RTMP so setup is the same: ruclips.net/video/4jXwOgRw9dY/видео.html
Am I the only one who didn't hear any audio?
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you
half way through the video and still hasn't told me how to live video broadcast :/
The video is describing which cameras to use, not how to stream.
