I use it too. Later I got 80D as well, but at the time of purchase I realized that *SL2 is better than 70D* ! Here's why: ruclips.net/video/qo9bPw1YsX0/видео.html
The SL series of Canon are very underrated. I did so many weddings with two Canon SL1 and I was able to push a lot out of the cameras and saved up enough for FF cameras
I just upgraded to the Black Magic Pocket 4k, but can safely say that the Canon T5i has been an exceptional entry level camera, and surely the older ones are as well. If you're on a budget get one of these entry level cameras, and then research and invest in vintage lenses. Quickest way to really boost the quality of your shots, beyond just getting better yourself obviously, is to find a unique vintage lens. I'm very partial to the Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm, and you can find it for around $100 or so.
Absolutely amazing video. As an aspiring creator it's really helpful that you've made this very straight forward. ALSO, to all other aspiring creators, I hope you all succeed in what you try to do. Don't give up on your dreams people.
I tell people all the time, if you are thinking of videography/photography: 1) consider just using your phone for a while and see where the limitations are. 2) if you are a noob, buy the cheapest decent body you can find and spend the rest on lenses.

It's nice to see these entry level camera's carefully reviewed on RUclips. So many review of the mid-level and high-end cameras already. But these entry level cameras are a much bigger market.
I loved this video. All the other videos I watched were talking about $400-$700 cameras and they had ‘budget’ in the title and to me, there’s nothing budget about $700 whereas this video ACTUALLY had budget cameras 👍
Great review! One note and one error correction on the GH-2: 1. The GH-2 has a “crop mode” where it just reads the center 1920x1080 pixels instead of downsampling from the full MFT sensor, this makes it well suited to 16 and Super16mm C-Mount lenses with fUll HD resolution (probably better than Pentax’s Q). 2. @dslrvideoshooter has a title card for the GH-2 which states that it has a 2.5mm headphone jack. This is incorrect. The GH-2 has a 2.5mm *mic in* jack. It works, but it does limit your mic options unless you are willing to use an adapter.
Awesome Video ! I just love when you expose old cameras and we see that the specs are *pretty decent for shooting 1080p* ! I shoot a lot with the a5100, I think 70% of my channel is shot with it ! Great work on this video ! See you soon !
what bugs me about decent 1080p cameras is the sharpness doesnt appear quite 1080, right now i'm very satisfied recording in 4k then downscaling to 1080
Thank you so much for making this video! Even 2 years later it was so helpful in finding a good affordable camera to start my RUclips channel! Most of these videos claim to be “under $300” or “affordable” and still end up taking you to a $500-$600 camera. Using your link I was able to find a Panasonic GH2 for $150 in great condition with accessories! I appreciate it

Can someone explain why most used cameras are selling for more now post pandemic. I’ve been noticing a recurrent theme when I watch these kind of videos that say the camera is worth “200” but is now selling for 500 on eBay.
@@remionthemoonvideos like these increase demand also many people like to sell tech for high prices. Some lady at a garage sale was trying to sell her broken iphone 8 for 150 dollars
Great choices! You should definitely do an updated version of this with 4K cameras. Pretty sure you've already seen the demand for this video in the comment section.
I started with the Nikon D7000 (GASP - A Nikon Shooter!). Those can be had for under $300. Full HD up to 30p. Mic input and mini-HDMI. Not sure of the data rate. Super long battery life.
I use Nikons too, is that even allowed? A 750 and a 7100. Is there are support group we can join? Because when I do my part I'm not ashamed of the results at all. : )
For what you do you might want to pull it out and throw a lovely cheap 50mm like a Series E 1.8 on it. Cost you 50 bucks or so. On a DX might be the closeup portrait lens of your dreams. No need for adapters, Nikon made everything back-compatible until the full-frame mirrorless. Nikon might not be in the forefront with video features but boy they have some good glass on offer.@@NerdLensStudios
@@mfreeman313 Yeah, I have a 50mm 1.8D which I got off craigslist and it's a solid little thing despite being an older model. Totally agree, Nikon has some great lenses overall
So glad the EOS M is on this list. I feared I might have to invest in another camera (would not be right now). And glad you've done some videos on it. About to take a look. Had my camera 6 years but haven't really exploited its potential.
Thank you for making this video -- I literally spent 2 hours looking for SOME kind of recommendation for a humble entry level camera for someone just getting started. All I need is something cheap that shoots 1080p -- but all the other videos I watched were calling $800 cameras 'cheap' and 'entry level'. It all felt very misleading, and frustrating for someone like me. So again, a big THANK YOU for giving me some options -- although I'm not a fan of shopping on ebay because I'm in Canada and our dollar sucks -- at least I've got options now!
The Pentax is reminiscent of the old 1970’s Pentax 110 SLR camera. It might be interesting to see if it allows use of those lenses; the 18mm, the 24’s, the zooms, and the 50 and 70mm telephotos. Yes, these were a 110 camera from Pentax. BTW, Minolta had two SLR cameras as well in the same era.
Don't underestimate the importance of a mic jack. I know you can work around not having one by using your phone or an external recorder, but it's annoying and will slow you down. The GH2 is really the way to go on this list because it has headphone and mic jacks, just be sure to get stabilized Panasonic lenses if you plan on using the camera handheld. I'm sure Caleb would agree that audio is very important! It sucks that it never occurred to Sony to include a mic jack on an APS-C camera until the NEX-7.
Information centered rather than "open mic night" like so many other videos covering this subject. No wonder you have such an incredible like/dislike ratio! Excellent thank you
As a Nikon shooter, I'd recommend the Nikon 1 system for video. The phase detect AF in the 1 system is fast and accurate. The V series include a mic input whereas the cheaper J series don't. The J5 even has a 4k @15fps but still no mic input. Its going rate is less than $300.
if you just save up about 50 to 100 dollars more there are plenty of canon 70d cameras for about 350$ to 400$ that offer 1080 30fps, aspc sensor, a mic jack, flip out screen, and duel pixel autofocus. I think that is the perfect starter camera.takes fantastic raw images as well.
I took NEX-7 with 18-55 3.5-5.3 for 240 EUR ~270$ 2 years ago in a local pawn shop. I still use it with my gimble to shoot weddings. The main camera is a NEX-VG30(i use it 6 years).
For new film makers you should still just start with shooting on your phone before you invest in a camera most new I phones can shoot in 4K at 30-60 fps
That's not the only parameters that matter in a video. Sensor size is a huge issue with smartphones and if a beginner wants to learn video the training wheels have to come off unfortunately
Yea once I found this dream monitor. 4k 1 ms response time and 144hz-240hz screen. At the time they shot the review it was super cheap, and then the price soared as it hit over a million views. :( I was crushed.
That's such a neat party trick with the Pentax Q. That footage really did look like it came from an old 8mm home movie camera, especially if you add some film "defects" in post. Perfect for adding a scene or two to a larger movie that shows someone as a child in the past.
Considering getting my niece a cheap/older camera to play around with, as she's been into shooting videos on her aging iPad, which is on its last legs. It's a hard balance when looking for an appropriate camera for an 8-year-old, even one as careful with tech as she is. On one hand, there are cameras just for kids, but they all look like such junk I don't even feel comfortable getting one for her. On the other hand, most "real" cameras cost so dang much I'm extremely hesitant. This video actually helped me affirm our family's decision to just let her play around with/use two older cameras we've had laying around, without using, since smart phone cameras got good. One of them is a samsung, the other is a Kodak. Both are from 2009. The samsung is 10MP, and better for stills, while the Kodak can shoot 1080P, so is better for videos. If she takes to those we can get her a newer one when she's a bit older. 😀
this advice came in handy for my "when I'm in a place where I am very likely to be robbed" camera. Well, I ignored the advice and went with the canon m3, but still.

I love the GX85, i got two of these. I love it for its IBIS. But I also have 3 of the EOS M, simply because with the right picture style it shines, plus, you can shoot RAW video via Magic Lantern.
GX85 is a great suggestion, only lacking a mic input and a bit softer 1080P footage compared to the G85. But for that money probably still the best bang for your buck.
panasonic gh2, manual settings ALL work when recording , HDMI output is working when recording, rotary screen, not overheating. This camera in my country filmed WEDDINGS, the second camera in popularity for Canon 5Dmark 2, then Canon 7d, and Canon 550d
The Pentax Q is a heck of a fun camera! You should've mentioned it's one of the only cameras on the list with image stabilization and HDMI. I also appreciated you were accidentally calling it a Pentax 110 super at the end of the video. You get extra credit for that!
I saw somebody say that when videos like this are posted more people go searching for the cameras which makes sellers raise the price since the camera has become popular again. I don't know if it's true but if it is that may be why we can't find it at the price he said it was.

The SL series of Canon are very underrated. I did so many weddings with two Canon SL1 and I was able to push a lot out of the cameras and saved up enough for FF cameras
10 Things I Like About and the SL2 is way better.
I watched this video back in the day.
And I thought it was really good!
I tell people all the time, if you are thinking of videography/photography:
1) consider just using your phone for a while and see where the limitations are.
2) if you are a noob, buy the cheapest decent body you can find and spend the rest on lenses.

Watching this in April 2020.. It's still helpful even after the Canon GxX III kinda failed
Just wanted to let you know how helpful this vid was man. Thank you for making this video. This was the video I watched 3 years ago to help me decide which camera to get for my first ever real camera. I ended up getting the Canon EOS M which was such an awesome little camera for my budget. It taught me so much about the basics of photography and videography. I had the EOS M for a little over a year and then upgraded to a Canon M50 and I’ll be upgrading to an EOS R soon. Just wanted to come back to this video because it’s pretty nostalgic in my photography journey.
If only I had a dollar for every time he said “back in the day”
LOL!
you'd have 42$
You come here to learn and complain about the teacher giving you free game? Dude hush!

It's nice to see these entry level camera's carefully reviewed on RUclips. So many review of the mid-level and high-end cameras already. But these entry level cameras are a much bigger market.
I got a t3i with a cracked screen and two lenses for $180 on eBay. I repaired the screen myself for only $10.
I loved this video. All the other videos I watched were talking about $400-$700 cameras and they had ‘budget’ in the title and to me, there’s nothing budget about $700 whereas this video ACTUALLY had budget cameras 👍
The Pentax was a crazy surprise. No way I need that and of course I want it.
Haha, same! I feel that way about pretty much all of these cameras
Colin Bloodworth lmao dude, I just bought it..
NerdLens Studios so true man
@@jamieian Where did you buy it?
@@user-lp5ef8rd2n it was hard to find a site where they sell them, I used ebay homie!
You saved my life.
Congrats.
I'm happy because this video exists.
Great review! One note and one error correction on the GH-2:
By far the best video i have ever seen for affordable cameras, thank you very much
Can we get an updated list for 2023?
Panasonic GH3, Nikon D5200, and Canon T6S. That's the list.
Just got an nx3000 off Ebay for 185 plus shipping. I'm stoked for it to get delivered. Thanks for the great video!
I use the A5000 for all my B-roll... Great little cheapy
Best Camera Comparison Video EVER MADE.
I appreciate it
Would love to see an updated version of this video for 4k (even if that means bumping the price cap by 100 or so!)
Exactly what I was thinking about.
Rite
5100 is packed with features and has a very impressive image. I've had it for years and it was my B cam for my FS100.
This was insanely helpful, man! Very in-depth and still done in under 15 minutes.
You deserve a award for actually being very useful, THANK YOU!! I only started youtube today and you helped a lot!
Btw thank you very much for this video. Just got a Panasonic GH2 and I'm in love
The best video in budget cameras to date
Can we appreciate his subjects? They're beautiful.

dont remember how many time I watch this video... just keep coming back... godshi I need to buy one of these...
None of these cameras are this cheap anymore
People are asking 400$ for nex 5 and a5000😂
Can someone explain why most used cameras are selling for more now post pandemic. I’ve been noticing a recurrent theme when I watch these kind of videos that say the camera is worth “200” but is now selling for 500 on eBay.
I think people were trying to get hobbies during the pandemic which pushed the prices up @remionthemoon
@@remionthemoonBecause videos like this increase demand which in return increases price
@@remionthemoonvideos like these increase demand also many people like to sell tech for high prices. Some lady at a garage sale was trying to sell her broken iphone 8 for 150 dollars
This is one of the most well put together videos I have ever seen. Great information! Thank you. 🙏
Am I the only one that went to search these up and realised they are like $400
you can be lucky in ebay.
Oh, well then, next video I guess..😐
once a popular youtuber promotes a product the price always slightly goes up especially on an older product that they arent getting any profit on
@@xthindiesel166 aw come on, Sony didn't saw this video and suddenly realized their eight years old camera was worth at least two hundred dollars more
@@Ruinemacil they don't have to, they go by the popularity, what people are searching.
Great choices! You should definitely do an updated version of this with 4K cameras.
Pretty sure you've already seen the demand for this video in the comment section.
Another good alternative is the Canon SL1 which you can get used on Amazon or eBay for around $250 US
Such an amazing video, thank you!
I’ve been filming with my old Canon Rebel T3i for 6 years now, and I’m happy with this guy.
Nothing wrong with a Nikon shooter lol! This comment makes me want to pull my D3300 back out tho
Oh man, I remember the T2i! That was a huge deal to me back in the day. If I had to run any of these, I'd go for the GH2, though.
I still have my old T1i! 1080p an utterly useless 20fps. If you want 30, you need 720p.
Best video on finding a budget camera for recording/vlogging
This is the only channel that knows the definition of 'cheap'
Inflation is so bad right now this list is even accurate anymore. Most of these cameras that are 299 are now close to 500 or more
I would add the panasonic lx100, it's bassically a gh4 with a 12-35mm f2.8 but for very little money and shoots in 4k
Information centered rather than "open mic night" like so many other videos covering this subject. No wonder you have such an incredible like/dislike ratio! Excellent thank you
A5100 Sony I love but the overheating was so awful for vlogging
same fr fr

@Carlos Cerda external battery ?
Ive spent my whole life obsessed with guitars, now its spread out to cameras.

Easily the best video I've found on this topic. Thanks so much man.
if you just save up about 50 to 100 dollars more there are plenty of canon 70d cameras for about 350$ to 400$ that offer 1080 30fps, aspc sensor, a mic jack, flip out screen, and duel pixel autofocus. I think that is the perfect starter camera.takes fantastic raw images as well.
Link?
I took NEX-7 with 18-55 3.5-5.3 for 240 EUR ~270$ 2 years ago in a local pawn shop. I still use it with my gimble to shoot weddings. The main camera is a NEX-VG30(i use it 6 years).

Ahahahahaha.. I'm so glad I went back and actually checked what that flash was now
gyaahahahahahahah.... i see what you did there!
EOS RIP 😢
HAHAHHAH HAD TO STOP AND LOOK BACK FOR THIS..
Love this video thank you super helpful
For new film makers you should still just start with shooting on your phone before you invest in a camera most new I phones can shoot in 4K at 30-60 fps
Liam Feeley what if you want to do a video podcast on RUclips ?
That's not the only parameters that matter in a video. Sensor size is a huge issue with smartphones and if a beginner wants to learn video the training wheels have to come off unfortunately
The Pentax one got me, the retro old school look would be cool for some things.
Sony Nex 7, absolute weapon only hobbled by not having a clean HDMI out but great wee cammy.
Also so so much love for the Canon 550D (ti2).
This was such a helpful video back in the day when I needed a camera
I hate how after enough videos like these are made all the prices go up on the cameras
Yea once I found this dream monitor.
4k 1 ms response time and 144hz-240hz screen.
At the time they shot the review it was super cheap, and then the price soared as it hit over a million views.
:( I was crushed.
You can barely find any of these cameras presently for under $300, used!
That's such a neat party trick with the Pentax Q. That footage really did look like it came from an old 8mm home movie camera, especially if you add some film "defects" in post. Perfect for adding a scene or two to a larger movie that shows someone as a child in the past.
OMG the nex-5n and the t2i, what a flash black. I remember using those. I only sold my t2i to go 60d before I abandoned Canon altogether haha
Which places might that be, if you don't mind me asking? I could use an M3.

Thanks for making the video. I'm looking for a cheap vlogging camera and I couldn't find one brand new. The mic port is important for me so glad I found what I was looking for.
You can get Panasonic gx85 for 250 bucks , with 4k , 5axis stabilisation and Cinelike-D with an easy hack. You can't top that.
I love the GX85, i got two of these. I love it for its IBIS. But I also have 3 of the EOS M, simply because with the right picture style it shines, plus, you can shoot RAW video via Magic Lantern.
I have one. Excellent for the price.
Alexis Stamatopoulos
The heck did you find it?? I only see $400 and up on Amazon
hi, obviously i am referring to second hand, which you can find in ''like new'' condition in many sites like KEH or MPB.
NEW DRINKING GAME: Take a shot every time he says, "Back in the day."
The Pentax Q is a heck of a fun camera! You should've mentioned it's one of the only cameras on the list with image stabilization and HDMI. I also appreciated you were accidentally calling it a Pentax 110 super at the end of the video. You get extra credit for that!
the sony A5000 is showing up as $489 usd for me
im not sure how you found it so cheap unless im looking at the wrong thing
Same for the 5100. 550 bucks now.
used market or go check walmart
I saw somebody say that when videos like this are posted more people go searching for the cameras which makes sellers raise the price since the camera has become popular again. I don't know if it's true but if it is that may be why we can't find it at the price he said it was.
A guide that is actually "Budget" thank you . Be good to have an updated version of this 😀
