  • Here is some footage of Demon 170 Roll Racing at Bradenton Motorsports Park during an extremely busy event. I tried to drag race the car as well but it did not go as planned. How fast to do you think the Demon 170 will go in a quarter mile roll race? Let me know how you think the car did in the comments below.

    CASE IN POINT. I am a 74 year old ( gear head ) and dominated the streets of CT in the 60s,70s 80s , took a break and went at it again in 2005 for 10 years.
    I now drive a 6cyl 2022 Challenger GT which I used to beat a Hemi ( 5.7 ) charger and challenger.
    I did this because I KNOW my car and I have 60 years of seat time.

      Early in the season the tracks (the few that remain) are all crowded for test and tune nights. Getting toward the end of the season the crowd is smaller and you can get a lot more passes in. SInce Atlanta International Dragway closed I have no place to run a 1/4 mile. That's what's funny about the Demon 170. Many owners will not be able to race the car due to a multi hour drive to locate the nearest track. So then it moves to requiring an enclosed trailer and a tow vehicle. Real PITA as opposed to driving in and driving out.

Does it hold the gear or kick down? It sounds like it stays in the gear but want to ask. This could be good info to explain in the video after you do the run. X. You've got to a lot more on the tire. Go up a couple of notches. I have mentioned this to you about the grip situation in the past. There's not enough meat to hold the torque that Dodge gave these cars. Hell I had to do it on my 392 twin turbo Challenger. I couldn't even take off at a stop light without sliding sideways on dry pavement. Just do it once and find out for yourself. I know these models. How? I was on the SRT development team for years. Yeah, take it from the old guy who knows. Just be careful not to break the drive linkage because if you go up on that tire, I'm telling you your gonna go for a hell of a ride down that track. Yes I understand the cost of the tires are horrible as it is with the stock crap but the benefit is rewarding.

When I got a 5.0, I realized I needed at least 2-3x as much room because I'd be slamming on my brakes half way through the pull. So at 1000HP, a roll race on 1/4 mile is going to be over in a couple seconds. Gotta have room to vroom.

    Either way I’m not sure if I missed it or just don’t remember you mentioning it, but have you tried leaving in 2nd gear from a dig?
    Also, can you maybe hold your last gear if you’re in manual mode, so you don’t cross in 6th? I think your 1:1 is 5th and that’s where you want to finish at.
    From what I’ve noticed drag radials don’t really need a very big burn out. Once I see it smoke I begin to let off as I drive into the glue and back up to the beams. Drop pressure by 1lb until you hook, but you may need beadlocks if it gets too low.

      Much appreciated buddy. The Demon 170 is a different animal! It won’t let you leave in second if you’re in drag mode unfortunately. 1:1 is in 6th gear actually with these cars .. which sucked because when I tried to dyno it in 6th it ran into the limiter but in 5th it didn’t pull as much power. The tire is definitely spinning on the wheel so beadlocks would definitely help. I tried to burn past the beams and back up in my tracks but it’s didn’t seem to help unfortunately. Why the hell doesn't the factory install a catch can in the first place?

    • @TheErmin36
      @TheErmin36 Месяц назад +2

      Because it is an extra cost for them and it requires the owners to do more maintenance (empty the can and dispose of the oil properly). In addition, it does not add any value to their performance or durability requirements (cars are only designed to go 60,000 or maybe 100,000 miles, for example). Therefore, it is of no use for the manufacturer, and only adds cost and maintenence. If you are someone who wants to keep a car for longer than what the manufacturer designs it for, then it is a good idea. It does not hurt the engine and instead of the oil being discharged into the intake, it is simply removed and the catch can emptied. Your car will be fine without a catch can, but you will have issues with buildup in the intake manifold and valves after hundreds of thousands of miles.

I don't film every time I go to the track because sometimes I just like to go enjoy myself and get in seat time.
