My girlfriend and I both use a7iv for shooting live music sessions with controlled lighting. Thinking about adding a 3rd camera and I’m going back and forth on another a7iv or an fx3. Do you have any thoughts or opinions?
Yo I've been searching through all the videos for the FX 30 and I'm still unsure, so I'm a complete amateur and I'm looking for my first proper camera, at the moment I use a Sony Xperia Pro I and a canon M50 mk2 and I've been looking at the FX 3 for a year but the price is always stopping me where as this is far more affordable but alot of people are telling me to just save the extra for the FX 3, but after getting lenses , monitor and a rig, I just can't justify the price of the FX 3 as an amateur. From what I've seen the fx30 is a great camera but what is your opinion on buying it as a "first " proper filming camera ? to learn with, maybe take some classes to really get a grip with all the features, or is it important to get full frame for this ?
The FX30 is an INSANELY GOOD camera to start out with! Soooo good. I started out with a Panasonic GH1 as my first camera while in film school. While the FX30 is in many ways "better" than my Sony FS7 I have now!
Just wanted point out that lenses for smaller sensors are not less expensive if you're equating for the fact that you're getting worse noise performance, dynamic range, and less background blur with the same field of view and aperture. To get equivalent results the lenses end up being very similar in price.
Would you recommend the Sony a7s III instead of any of these for a hybrid but yet more video inclined person? Would be my only camera so it needs to cover both.
Why have only one?? You could get a new FX30 *and* a secondhand a6300 all for a total cost much lower than an a7Smk3! *And* you'd have a better camera for filming with, while having a nifty B Cam too. (arguably better for stills too)
@@davidconsumerofmath I don't want to carry 2 cameras with me all the time when traveling or casually because the fx30 doesn't come with any photo features so that means I would have to go around with the a6400 plus it later one you want to upgrade to a real cine camera you need complete new full frame lenses.
In US fx30 and fx3 price difference are half. But from where i am at the price for fx30 with xlr is 9000 while fx3 is 15750. It's only a 6,750 difference. I'm confused. are you shooting photo or video. for photo, it dosn't matter, you can just crop in post. but in video, that's is a whole different story, your 200-600mm in 4k 60p will become 300-900mm.and with active Ibis ON. it's about 350-1000mm. If you use clear image zoom in 4k, that's another 1.5X crop(450-1350mm) and in 1080p it will be 2X crop(600-1800mm)

@@youareawesome8 I never said other cameras exhibited no rolling shutter. Just was pointing out how bad the one in this Sony is. I think around 27ms in full frame. which is terrible. The A7s3/FX3 I believe is around 8ms for a frame of reference. Fuji XH2s is around 12ms. Canon r5 is 15.5. Its a side effect of an underpowered camera with inadequate readout speed, and it absolutely affects performance even if you aren't whipping your camera around when its that bad.
@@joshkiddfilms1295 You got your values for X-H2S wrong. X-H2S is ~9.7ms at 14 bit readout and 5.3ms at 12 bit readout. FX30 is 15.7ms. Also, there's no way non-stacked sensors are gonna match stacked sensors in terms of readout speeds. 15.7 is not fantastic, but it is already a very good improvement over the old 2014 sensors that were still being chucked into the ZV-E10. I was hoping they would use a S35 cut of the A7iv sensor instead for faster readout, but Sony probably wants to streamline the production line, since this new 26MP is also likely the new architecture for the A7R5. It probably costs more to make a specific cut just for 1 product line. Rolling shutter of the FX30 is over-exaggerated. I QC shows before delivering them for broadcast and in the last year of hundreds of shows, I've only seen ONE whip pan. Rolling shutter aside, most people probably don't even know they aren't supposed to exceed a certain pan speed based on focal length. Majority of people are still shooting 24/25p even though not a single platform supports that natively resulting in garbage jitter due to the transcoding by social media platforms. TL;DR it's not that bad. And people have more things to worry about than rolling shutter.

I'm considering it because I have the lens already, its amazing and I have the FX30 on the way already but if the autofocus is not that great, might just go for a analog adapter, manual focus and stick with native lenses for its autofocus. (of course I know the 18-35 might not beat a native lens but if its close enough, it'll be worth it for me. )
I use a number of sigma lenses on my a7siii with the MC11 and the autofocus works splendidly. So I imagine it’d be a similar case with the fx30
@@aleclyons5755 thanks for letting me know ! I'll order the MC11
Autofocus is as good as native with MC-11. Only drawback is there is a fairly loud autofocus clicking sound from 18-35
great video, but I would like to see videos comparing images with other cameras like lumix s5, canon r6, evaluating the quality of images, so your video would not be aimed only at a group that uses Sony, even though I am a Sony a7iv user
Thank you! Great information
if the FX3 had an evf and internal nd filter I would go from team Canon to team Sony
@11:24 "...no flash sync control on the fx3" -- this is an error I think. The FX30 has no flash sync control but the FX3 does according to specs.
Let me know if I'm wrong!
just bought FX3, 2 hour later fx30 coming :)
most people only consider the fx30 as a secondary cam, so you are still good with the fx3 :)
you got the better camera so no worries. i'd still get the fx3 even with the fx30 now on the market :)
FX3 is superior. And Jesus loves you!
Double a7siii owner. Never in doubt
FX3 any day.
Basically if you have the money buy the FX3.
If you don't have the money or are worried about the upcoming financial recession like Bank of England intervening on the pension fund disaster last week then save your money and get the FX30
the energy crisis this winter you want be able to charge either camera
@@Rim00909E My guess is these supply issues will resolve quickly once the squeeze really starts hitting. No more free money from the government propping up markets. They need markets to crash to stop inflation and the US dollar is wrecking havoc around the world. P.S. if you are American and on trip overseas you can buy goods for stupid cheap prices. The dollar conversion on a FX3 makes it close to $200 cheaper in England because the pound is crashing.
@@vlcheish good point on the outlook financially. the markets basically have to crash or the gov is screwed with controlling inflation so they got to kill it which means they also need employment to go higher and will keep raising rares. this will impact everyone and curious how camera companies respond once users are not buying every new release they put out.
Would the fx3 in apsc more work better then the fx30 (if I want to use small apsc lenses with it)
@@roxisarobot FX3 & a7Siii apsc crop is only available when using 1080p resolution, not in 4k. I just use some clear image zoom + active ibis to eliminate vignetting when using apsc lenses on a7Siii

Yeah there was an error I wanted to fix! Jake
@@CVPTV Thanks for your hard work, a lot of useful information about FX30.

Great Video. One question about FX3. Im professional colorist and sometimes when I shoot some stills for my personal use I do not wonna spent time in post as Im doing it every day professionally for future movies. Can i shoot stills with baking in LUTs ? Or just Raw? I cant find the answer for that question anywhere. Hope U will hel me :) Im just before my decision to buy F3...
Hey Martin, Yes you can back in LUTs into stills. You should be able to add your chosen LUT into the picture profile you would like to use. You can see more here - helpguide.sony.net/ilc/2210/v1/en/contents/TP0002920003.html Start where it says: “to register user luts”. Hope this helps, Jake
@@CVPTV Great ! Thank U. After U post and mostly because U work done with F3 i just bought one yesterday. Such a great tool . Like a mini tiny brother of those I use working on future films. Thank U.
Is a nice moment to buy an fx3 today? Or is better wait 2025?
What camera should I have for shooting a decent fiction show for RUclips..
Great Video! Personally, I have the 7IV for my private events, the FS5 for eng, and planning to get the fx30 for private event were I am require to shoot video only.
I really wanted the FX 30, but when I found out it only shoots single pictures. I changed my mind. I'm a hybrid shooter.
I just got the fx 30 not delivered yet and have a brand new 6600 I was going to sell it but may keep both for just that reason the fx 30 smokes the 6600 for cinematic film look Sony is full of it for making need to keep both. I have seen picture test that show similar pics from both I will update you when it comes in.
If your a hybrid shooter why would consider a cinema camera? A7 IV is literally a hybrid camera
great video!
I'm thinking to get fx30 for my B cam..
Also, I have a question, what mic do you use with fx3 / 30? the one with 2 xlrs
ecm-ms2
Hello Folks, I wanna ask you which camera some of the instagram models are using. For example. Dennis Boeer. Michael Yerger. Jaco Brott
I would like to know which camera are the using, I love the quality of the pictures. Also are they editing it, how? If someone know, I would love to hear that from you. Thank u very much!
really concise - thanks guys
What about overheating on the a7iv? FX3/30 has no overheating issues.
Great video, thank You. Yes, this is my question: FX30 or A 7 IV? Best regards, Kai the Bee filmer from Kiel.
For filming with? Easy! Get the FX30
FX3 is much superior camera, dynamic range, low light performance, signal to noise ratio, rolling shutter performance.
Greetings
Exactly.
As it should be since it's a lot more expensive
It’s almost double the price too.
But is it double the price superior?
If only the A7 had a fan, then the choice would be easy😢
My girlfriend and I both use a7iv for shooting live music sessions with controlled lighting. Thinking about adding a 3rd camera and I’m going back and forth on another a7iv or an fx3. Do you have any thoughts or opinions?
Do you want to primarily use it for video? Jake
@@CVPTV yes
Great detail video as always. Can you tell me what small XLR mic you use on the fx30 or recommend any other compact xlr for fx30. Thanks
Thanks for watching ! The mic we used was the ECM-MS2. Jake
@@CVPTV thank you
Is the footage included unprocessed?
Exactly. Don't buy all of the FX30's and make them out of stock for months if not years like the FX3 and A7Siii... let me buy one first.
Sony A74 for me
Thank you for the information. Thank you very much for not trying to entertain.
While the FX30 is in many ways "better" than my Sony FS7 I have now!
ty for this video
Just wanted point out that lenses for smaller sensors are not less expensive if you're equating for the fact that you're getting worse noise performance, dynamic range, and less background blur with the same field of view and aperture.
To get equivalent results the lenses end up being very similar in price.
Very interesting, thank you.
14:12 "all of these cameras can go wrong" what does that mean?
What’s the best dual iso for the Sony A7iv
800 and 3200 ISO
Can you not use apsc lenses on the a7iv in super 35 mode?
Yes, but worse performance for the a7
Would you recommend the Sony a7s III instead of any of these for a hybrid but yet more video inclined person?
@@davidconsumerofmath I have the a6300 and a7siii, the a7siii is leagues ahead of the a6300 for stills
I’ve noticed you’ve blurred out the first native ISO for the A74 while shooting in slog3, does this mean you think is 800 and not 640? Thanks
Yes it's 800 not 640. Jake
You lost me when you said to use speedbooster to maximize image quality.
What is the camera you used for this video?...Thanks

give us a full review on a7c ii
In US fx30 and fx3 price difference are half. But from where i am at the price for fx30 with xlr is 9000 while fx3 is 15750. It's only a 6,750 difference. Though i can buy the 3 new apsc lens with that price difference. It's really hard to choose between them as i really like the fx3 since from the start. I am happy that fx30 was introduced because it looked like fx3. A7siii here is just 12,500 so it is 3,500 difference but the looks of the fx is not there. Don't like the looks of a7siii as it looks like a normal camera. If i choose the fx30 will it still be good? Planning to use it on my youtube channel and maybe do some indie films. Hoping you could help me decide.
Yes, get the FX30!
i've been trying the sony A7 IV but it gets hot... after 15 mins and then every 2 mins... shut down... crazy
Have you changed the Auto Power Off temp setting? This may help but the a7 IV will overheat in certain conditions. Jake
Go to your camera settings and put your temperature to High
Canon 70D ALL DAY!!!
May I ask can crane m3 handles fx30 with Sigma 18-50?
How well can you colour match between the Sony A7IV and the FX30. I was thinking of picking up an FX30 as a B-Cam to my A7IV
You'll find the FX30 will not be your B Cam but your A Cam!
can we shoot feature film for theatre release by fx3 & fx30
Oh man…if the a74s rolling shutter were better…its terrible even in crop mode…
actually the rolling shutter performance of the a7iv in crop mode is better than the fx30
Alister Chapman remarks that the FX30 has more plastic bits than the FX3 and that, unlike the FX3, the FX30 has a true dual base ISO sensor.
Really, when I had them side by side, they seemed identical. Maybe he means internally? Jake
@@CVPTV His exact words were “The body of the FX30 does use a bit more plastic than the FX3, but this does make it a bit lighter without it feeling flimsy.” but I don’t recall anyone else saying that.
It is interesting that that the FX30 has true dual base ISOs, does that mean the FX30 is a little better at its second ISO than the FX3? :-o
@@davidconsumerofmath Alister says that there is almost no difference in noise or DR between the FX30’s two base ISOs and that the base sensitivities are more sensibly split, whereas with the FX3 and FX6, the much higher base sensitivity of 12800 ISO is noticeably noisier and suffers a slight reduction in DR.
@@davidconsumerofmath PRR recorded externally has a massive crop, too - identical to MFT.
I don’t think the A7 has the fine control over shutter to deal with filming CRT screens.
hard choice, specially with "European" prices...if I was in the US, I asked me no questions...thx sony :(
Exactly
how much is it in europe?
@@youareawesome8 $2400 without xlr base ans $2800 with. I might as well get the a7iv :(
@@luavasconcelos1637 wow. That's is expensive. That's more like Canadian dollar pricing except here we have to pay 13% tax on top. I Don't know how they come up with these numbers.
Can you shoot crop mode with A7 IV? i do a lot of surf photography from shore using 200-600 and need that extra reach. so if i shoot in 60p how much does it crop ?
Yeah 4k60 already has significant crop like 1.5 or 1.6
I'm confused. are you shooting photo or video. for photo, it dosn't matter, you can just crop in post. but in video, that's is a whole different story, your 200-600mm in 4k 60p will become 300-900mm.and with active Ibis ON. it's about 350-1000mm. If you use clear image zoom in 4k, that's another 1.5X crop(450-1350mm) and in 1080p it will be 2X crop(600-1800mm)
I never understood the word 'pre-amp' - is this measurable? Is there a number, that shows me "ah, yea, it got better preamps .." ?? Maybe you have a video on that, I'll check that out
No pre-amps do not have easily measurable stats like resolution or framerate. Gotta use those ears to gauge the pre-amp fidelity.
@@Sqeedledee Thats already good to know. Does a bad preamp just result in more background noise, or anything else?
@@Sqeedledee there are easily measurable stats, just camera manufacturers don't care at all about audio, thus they don't publish it
@@MariusGerome a bad preamp might also have worse dynamic range
Also when people talk about "preamps" they often mean the limiters too, which can vary a lot in quality
@@davidconsumerofmath Sure bud.
I'm half expecting an FX3mkII on the way given that the FX30 has new features, not in the FX3. Focus breathing compensation and color focus map, the USB video out improvements, and animal eye tracking.
Sony ain't making another camera for the features you just named
thank you but why would you tell us the difrence of the white point(maybe WB sensor) in front of the camera?
THNX quite clear what to buy _ FX30_
I really don’t know which one to get 😢
"should I have the money.”

The next FX 3 need to have a 8k downsample or even higher, they fan is wasted on the 12 mp sensor.

Since the used price of the a7m4 is the same as the fx30, I have to buy a used a7m4 ;)

Blows my mind how Sony created cameras with such poor rolling shutter performance in 2022. I don’t get it
can you please tell me which company in 2022 produces mirrorless camera with no rolling shutter, aside from stacked sensor. or micro 4/3. beside who use their camera by wipping from one side to the other.
@@youareawesome8 yea most full frame mirrorless have a s35 or Aps-c mode that reduces the rolling shutter. So that’s what I meant when referring to the a74 in full frame. I don’t see what you are trying to prove here. The a74 has terrible rolling shutter. Sony itself has cameras that are drastically better in that regard. Sure the a74 is higher resolution but there’s other full frame options that aren’t nearly as bad as the a74’s rs. If you are into that tho more power to you
@@professionalpotato4764 yea I was just approximating those values off the top of my head. But was talking about the a74 more so than the fx30.
Can fx30 use speedlight?
Wait - can someone confirm that the first native iso shooting s-log 3 on the A7IV is 640 not 800. I was sure it was 800.
Fx30 after VAT is 2300€ in your website thats almost negligible difference between a7iV. It's a no brainer! Plus the crop on 4k120p on fx30 seals the deal.
not to mention how bad that noise performance is.
@@nicholasboule5134 yeah, i hate it when youtubers are not telling the obvious s***T
but doesn’t the A7iv already crop at 60fps by 1.5/1.6? And they may cost the same but I already have a few APS-C lenses, it wouldn’t make sense (at least for me financially) to go A7iv AND needing to get expensive full-frame glass
@@chrswnd it's from full frame crop, but in fx30 you have already a default crop of 1.5 and another crop of 1.55. meaning you are using a sensor smaller than m43 at 4k120p. Does it make sense to you?
