And I was 4 years old when Yankees won the 2009 WS. I'm 19 years old now and here in 2024, Yankees might have a chance to win the 2024 WS after a long 15 years
Matsui was such a great player and a fan favorite during his tenure with the Yanks. The fact that he was able to grab this game by the balls and cement his legacy is just absolutely legendary. Go Go Godzilla!!! 🦖
-*I was there in NY 78 when we had to beat Boston in a 1 game play off to face the Dodgers. Then get another championship last night. I can say I have had a very good life. Enjoy your youth young man!!! good luck next year.

November 4th, 2009 I turned 19 and this was the best bday present. A lot of us were so lucky to grow up watching the Core Four, and for each of them this was their last WS win, which definitely makes this one special. The Core Four have 19 WS rings all together, which is incredible. And to top it off not only was this the first year playing in the new Yankee Stadium, but it was also the last time The Boss got to witness his Bronx Bombers once again becoming World Champions before passing away the next year. Go Yanks!
Justin Silva i turned 5 that day. I was one of those not able to see the core four for most of their careers, and this was the first championship I saw from them. I remember it clearly, great bday present
I was at Yankee Tavern that night with my best friend and there was a guy standing on the bar table with champaign in a bottle waiting for Mo to clinch the last out, when the Yankees won, the guy opened it and we got doused with champagne. Good times!
My father loved the Yankees. He had been a fan since the 50s when he was a kid. I hated them just to be different from my father. In 2009 we all knew he was in the final years of his life. I watched this game with him and cried a tear for the Yankees winning and how happy it made my father in that moment because I knew there was a good chance it would be the last time he’d see them win the World Series and actually know what was going on. He would pass away in early 2012.

It is quite surreal watching this. 2009 … the last one. Derek Jeters last at bat ever in a WS, single to the opposite field.. like the pro he is. Matsui, one of my favorites… monster game(pun intended). It’s a shame that it was also his last game in pinstripes. Posada behind the dish, one of the core four, and a player many of us took for granted. Rivera in to close… another many took for granted, myself included. How good we had it with him. The best ever and it’s not even a discussion. The stark contrast to what we are dealing with today. It’s a laugh. I didn’t seek this video out, it just came on after I let a video I was watching end… the nostalgia is palpable. 2009 is already 15 freaking years ago, and I remember this championship feeling like it was well passed the hay day of the Yankees I grew up with. The dynasty years… some of the best of my life, were already well in the rear view in 2009… little did I know this would be the true end of the era. Now my youth is gone, and all I have are memories. I feel like being able to watch the “old days” with such clarity, like it was yesterday only adds to the intense nostalgia. Previous generations really didn’t have that ability. Anyway… Time is the only currency kids… cherish every moment of your youth. Nothing ever stays the same. Ever. When you experience happiness, or a great moment/s… realize that it won’t stay like that forever. Nothing ever does. And that’s ok… Embrace and enjoy each day. Cliché, but true.
What blows my mind is that Brett Gardner made 65 million despite being league average his career Damon made about 100 mil despite the same. It’s crazy how much guys made before modern analytics. The 2010’s definitely changed though, Jeter and Damon both got the reality check hard in their contract years.
call em league average hitters yeah but they were still great players. Johnny Damon has 56.3 career bWAR and Brett Gardner has 44.3 career bWAR. Those are great careers. And Jeter is an all time great no matter how you want to look at it. 71.3 career bWAR and 6th all time in hits
