    I wish they kept the entire opening promo for the game (search for MLB Vault’s lower res video of the same game) in this video, because it was 90’s epic.
    But thanks for posting this in HD! Loved this team growing up (and stubbornly still love the M’s today) - Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Edgar and Tino Martinez, Jay Buhner, and A young Alex Rodrigue all on one team. They should have won more than they did, but they saved Seattle Baseball, and I’m grateful for it.

    I was watching the game at home with my now ex-wife, my two step children, and our biological son. After Gar's hit and Junior's mad dash home, we were going just as crazy in our living room, as the fans at the Kingdome were. Hard to think that it has been 25 years now since that magical night, when just about everyone in the Pacific Northwest (at least that one night) was a Mariners fan.

    Without this memorable Division Series or their improbable postseason run in 1995, the Mariner probably wouldn't still be in Seattle. They likely would've been further denied a new ballpark, probably would've been sold to an ownership group would probably would've moved the team somewhere else within the following year, perhaps to Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida.
    Easily one of the most memorable Division Series ever played, perhaps the best one of all. :-)

    With the combination of platoon players and switch hitters, when the M's had a RH on the mound the Yankees would have 7 or 8 left-handed hitters in the lineup. When it was a LH pitcher, they'd have 7 or 8 right-handed hitters going.

    This was the second postseason, winner-take-all game in which a team went from losing to winning on the game's last pitch. The other was the Braves vs. the Pirates in the 1992 NLCS. The most dramatic scenario, would of course, have to occur in the World Series. I vividly remember the above and the '92 version.

  • @CollectingBaseballCards
    @CollectingBaseballCards 5 месяцев назад +3

    Wow what an incredible game this was between the Yankees and Mariners in the 1995 ALDS! This Game 5 truly lived up to the hype as a winner-take-all showdown, with both teams battling back and forth throughout extra innings. The starting pitching from Andy Pettitte and David Cone was outstanding, keeping their powerful lineups in check for most of the game. But you knew it was only a matter of time before the offenses broke through.
    Some of the key moments I noticed while watching: Joey Cora's solo homer in the 3rd inning to give the Mariners an early lead. Then Paul O'Neill came through twice for the Yankees with homers, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the 4th. Edgar Martinez continued his postseason domination with a double. Jack McDowell and Mariano Rivera were huge out of the Yankees' bullpen, shutting things down into extras. And Randy Johnson and Jack McDowell were absolute warriors going deep into extra innings on just two days of rest.
    It was thrilling to see all the playoff veterans like Griffey, Edgar, Donnie Baseball, Boggs and the rest performing under immense pressure. And it was cool to catch glimpses of future stars like Alex Rodriguez getting their first playoff experience as well. The atmosphere in the Kingdome seemed absolutely electric throughout, with both fanbases going wild after big plays. You could really feeljust how much this winner-take-all game meant to both cities.
    The broadcast team of Brent Musburger, Jim Kaat and Jack Buck did a phenomenal job building the drama and excitement. Their anecdotes and insights added so much richness to the viewing experience. This was just an absolutely epic game between two legendary franchises that perfectly shows why baseball playoffs are so dramatic and compelling. It's easy to see why this particular Game 5 is still talked about so fondly by fans to this day. Playoff baseball truly doesn't get any better than this - what an unforgettable classic!

    If you think about it: Joey Cora at a medium height of 5'8 had a disadvantage to the taller players in performing those bunts. Taller players could move their bodies farther away from the line while still keeping enough inside the line not to be called out... Joey being shorter had to keep closer to the line to still be considered legit thus he had to make sure he overran the player trying to tag him

      @ckendall67 4 года назад +1

      Homefield was predetermined before the season at the time; they announced that the Western Division winner would have homefield advantage in the American League playoffs regardless of their record. So that meant that even though the Cleveland Indians owned the best record( 100-44 ), they opened the ALCS in Seattle. Yeah it was kind of confusing for the 1st few years in Division Series play because homefield had already been "awarded" before the season, but beginning in 1998 they changed the format so that the teams would be seeded by their overall record which made more sense.
