STL was going crazy that entire post season. As an 11year old kid at the time the entire city was buzzing. From school to the grocery store and every car window and store, cards flags flew everywhere. That was the first time I fell in love with sports.
Not a Cardinals or Rangers fan but this has gotta be the best baseball game of all time. Chills constantly from innings 8-11. Man I miss the golden age of baseball, when it was televised nationally and not blacked out and shared between 99 streaming services. We really lost something special
I am a lifelong baseball fan, I got it in my blood, but today it seems watered down. I liked when Baseball players made a play or blasted a shot they got on with it, today it's about little dances and hey look at me, I miss the old days, but that's just IMHO.
Right. So let's say the team you are a fan of wins the WS this year. Are you really not going to celebrate because the sport is "shared between 99 streaming services"? I'm going to hold you to that. Which it isn't, by the way. I just watched a great Rangers-Orioles game on National TV in June. You probably didn't see it, though. Cause it sounds like you ain't a real baseball fan :(
@@bendonnelly690 Not the point I was trying to make at all. Just saying the sport had a greater hold on pop culture because it was easier for the common person to see it on TV. Chill out!!! It’s not that deep, watched my Braves play all 9 today and loved it.
@@wesleythetrombonist Not to be *that guy* but the Braves played 10 today. Um, Do you even know what baseball is? Or are you just a casual fan who wants to complain? Do you want to be the guy who misses how baseball was? Or the guy who will always enjoy baseball for what it is? I'll leave it up to you.
I became a rangers fan in 2010. I was just 9 years old. I remember this series clearly. Me and my dad (and somewhat my mom) were watching it. All I can remember about game 6 was the look on my dad’s face when he saw that walk off homer. He looked sad and speechless. He didn’t move for a while. Just stood there like a statue. The exact same face. We lost the series, even before game 7. He and I just couldn’t believe it. To be that close to winning it all and having it taken away from you, TWICE, is a type of pain that I can never forget. I thought we were cursed when we lost in the ALDS twice to the blue jays. ANOTHER BIRD TEAM. Thankfully I got to share that moment again when we won it all. The pain has softened but damn does it suck to loose it all. Especially since it happened twice. This series was definitely one of the best in baseball. That much is certain. Funnily enough I told my dad when was the last time he saw game 6 and he said “I will never watch it again.”
David Freese' last two at bats in this game and his first at bat in game 7 are the three greatest consecutive at bats in MLB history. His WRC+ for those can't and won't ever be matched.
that 4.000 OPS is nice, but I think you're forgetting he was already surpassed by his own teammate, albert pujols, in game three of that very world series, where he hit three home runs in three straight plate appearances for an OPS of 5.000
@@fiercedeitylink2019 You're talking about OPS and I'm talking about WRC+. An entirely different stat that measures hit quality along the leverage of that hit. They're not even trying to calculate the same thing. You can go to baseball reference and look it up if you think I'm wrong.
@davidconnor5874 wRC+ and OPS+ (and by extension, OPS) are very similar statistics. i don't know who told you wRC+ measures quality of the hit and leverage, but it absolutely does not. it uses wRAA, which is based on wOBA, which is a context-neutral statistic. it simply takes each type of hit, hit-by-pitch, and unintentional walk and assigns them a value based on the value of each of those results in each league for each season. it does not in any way factor in leverage or runs batted in or anything like that. due to the similarity in factors, OPS+ and wRC+ are nearly always very similar in their result. for example, aaron judge has a 219 OPS+ and a 214 wRC+. so, a 4.000 OPS stretch would have a lower wRC+ than a 5.000 OPS stretch in the exact same postseason series.
I was building and defending a new outpost in Shal, Kunar Province, Afghanistan during this entire series. We got updates from our company TOC every day. When I learned of my beloved red birds’ win I ran to each fighting position containing Texas fans to rub it in their faces. Our outpost came under attack right as I got to the last BP. Almost got my ass shot off while trying to get back to my squad. Worth it!
As a 30 year old fan for my whole life because i had an older brother already playing little league as my earliest memories. This really might be my favorite game ever, just as a fan of baseball. Im a Mets fan sp my loyalties are with neither of these teams and it still might be my favorite ever.
Man gave me chills all over again, its not even my team but mann.. bottom 9, 2 outs, 2 on 2 strikes home town kid with a game tying triple then goes on for a game winning home run.. remarkable .. 💪
The world series is littered with moments like this. My father told me about the 1960 World Series Pirates v. Yankees when game 7 was won on a home run by the Bucs. Also the entire 1975 World Series was awesome, every game had some great moment, the 1980 NLCS was another all time classic for the playoffs that is.
This Series is especially great for me, because it was the last World Series I watched with my mom. She passed away in August of 2012. Ahh, the memories of one of the greatest games ever!
That double play top of the second, the throw from third to first was fire. Entire game was good and the amount of errors added an angle to everything. Then 7th inning on it was an entire other level of game. Good stuff
Oh yeah...what a ride this year. I have been a die hard fan since the Miracle Mets of 69. This has been one of the great years with everything they had to overcome and it's still going.
I was in attendance for this game when I was 13 years old. The chance to see my Rangers close out the series and win the World Series was dashed by Freese and I never liked that man since that game up until last November. The first thing I did after the Rangers won the World Series aside from sobbing was to turn on the TV and rewatch this game. Looking back on it, this truly was one of the greatest games played in the past 20 years, let alone in WS history. Now I look at this series with a bittersweet joy and am truly lucky to have been there at Busch :)
