To change this track was one under many bad ideas in F1. In 1994 every lap a engine dies. This was an unbelievebel race. Easely more fun to watch than all races in the last 10years.
It most definitely was not perfect for the cars and teams and that made it perfect for fans! I love it when tracks on the calendar challenge the existing design philosophies and force teams to think outside the box because that is interesting to watch and follow as a fan. In terms of the characteristics of old Hockenheim it was a kind of uber-Monza, rewarded cars with powerful engines and drivers with great precision. Even after losing it's balls it's still a good track, but it once was truly great.
I loved the highspeed-straights, that's something we don't have so often on modern racing-tracks. Senna himself loved the old Hockenheimring. It also had a romantic touch, seeing these cars runnig at over 350 khm rushing through the woods and entering the "motodrome" at the end. I loved every single race on it and yes, I also loved it in every racing-simulations. The old Ring was special, the new layout is just one of many and all the magic is gone.
These wood sections were just mindblowing. Best seats in that area in the middle of the wood. Just with awesome sound and fresh air. There is no track close to this one.
+abbed Idriss The guy really is a fucking twat, his tracks are terrible, I think he just throws some spagetti on the floor and goes there you are a new circuit. F1 is dead and the sound of the cars today are the final nail in the coffin.
Guys, I don't like Hermann Tilke either, but this was not his fault. He didn't tear down the old track. When they constructed the new track (which I don't like), the old track was supposed to remain. Unfortunately, the state which the Hockenheimring is located in, is run by the Green party. A liberal-welcome terrorists-pedophile-green peace-treefucker-party. They financed the new ring, and forced the old track to be reforested in compensation of the trees they had to cut down for the new track. This was in no way Tilkes decision.
@@StreetWarrior24 No problem. Because of the crazy government which to this day runs things there, Hockenheimring is broke and they denied them financial aid.
Impossible. :( "In an extremely controversial move, the old forest section was torn up and replanted with trees, eliminating any chance of using the old course either for future F1 events or for historic car events." Hockenheimring, Wikipedia
Man, I miss when F1 used to look as fast as it was. It doesn't seem quick these days. And whilst I'm not a fan of the Tilke tracks, I get the need for safer places for racing. But still, it wouldn't be too hard to make the old Hockenheimring safer. Shame it's gone, really. I'd love for a game like Forza to bring it back...
I miss this track so much!!! It was part of the history of European motorsport and every race was so fun to watch!! But F1 rules with Tilke and his horrible new tracks full of anti overtaking curves
everybody is bashing Tilke, but the tracks are not his fault, he does what he's asked to do... he creates the circuits for the requirements of today's F1
Completely disagree there. The old track was nothing but: straight -> chicane -> straight -> chicane. Very boring to watch AND to drive for that matter. Have the car with the best topspeed and you win the race. The new track is way more interesting imho
I know your comment is four years old, the statement about "best topspeed" is pretty funny considering Mercedes of the last however long. The problem that people have with the new layout is that all the modern F1 tracks have a very similar "feel" to them. Even if this track was not to your liking, there was diversity between circuits back then, now it just feels like a combination of the same circuits. I wonder how modern tracks would go if they got rid of DRS, whether overtaking would be possible.
are you serious? The old hockenheim ring is boring as f*ck to drive on in any Simulator. Unless you like going straight and stepping on the gas 100% for 80% of the lap. You should try dragracing...
Miss this track
Oh yeah man, i'm too. And i cam from Hockenheim.
The old Track has charackter. Wood and Stadium. And the new Track? I dont know.
I miss the old Hockenheimring
Same
This used to be one of my preferred tracks. Beautiful trees all around and long straights perfects for F1 cars.
as much as i loved the track too. ask maybe the teams and drivers about the fact if it is perfect for f1 cars... :D godddamn experts for fucks sake.
It was anything but perfect for F1 lol. The tracl was too old-school
perfectly boring

Please..I want this time back.
+Dan Kotalík we all do!!!! :(
I miss the anti-Tilke Hockenheimring...

GREAT V10!
The greatest driver of all time at the greatest race track of all time
Schumi the best??? Jajajajaaj
Nothing better than a V10 screaming around old Hockenheim.
Old Hockenheim -the best racetrack I've ever seen!

God damn it Hermann Tilke

@@LS-Moto I really didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

Awesome DRIVER!! Epic track! Fantastic F1 car! Thank you for sharing this video.
A genius at work on a brilliant circuit.
holy moly the speed at the speed trap was staggering in those days

its been 17 years for fucks sake. ahh i forgot, now is the era of offended people.
@@GregorioStyreco The irony
great lap
You are totally correct. I hate the new one. The old one was the best, also in the games.
Definition of man: drivers a v10, in a fast circuit with long straights and chicanes.
The old track was fantastic. Buliding a new layout was a shame. :/

_Hockenheim_ brought me here…
Not any other deformities such as Schumacher, FOM channel, other misguided distractions…. just Hockenheim.
RIP ✝️
What a shame hopefully one day the old circuit can return

Bring back the big beast of speed !............. please ?!?!?!.!.
Original circuit wow
The days when F1 was a mans sport
Great video...Anyone know how MS is doing these days?
The real Hockenheim
Imagine sticking slicks on these cars. They would be epicly fast!

Old Hockenheim>Rubbisheim.

le vrai tracé
Old circuit better than new, new circuit better than Nürburgring.
Different. Not better.
Most of Tilkes circuits need DRS. Good old tracks like SPA, old Hockenheim or Suzuka dont need that shit.
To me F1 was never the same after Schumi quit, god i miss those days SO MUCH
Original is only one
Shame that he was not allowed to complete a single lap at the grand prix after a crash with Fisichella. It would have been a great race.
Lol, swedish commentary :P
