As an 89 year old man who's been a jazz fan since the 20s, I have to say Haley really sounds good next to Tony. It's hard to match him in a jazzy, swinging way, but she hits the nail on the head. It's also hard to find such a beautiful, talented young girl with such an amazing voice and such a wonderful feel for the genre. This is a fantastic duet, and I hope to hear more from this young girl, and the ever-present Tony.
Haley is the quintessential performer. She can sing anything with her extraordinary vocals but what amazes me most about her singing songs like this and Jazz is her timing. She just effortlessly slides right into whatever she is singing like she has been doing it for 20 years...Amazing Woman!!!!

Tony Bennett is on my list of all time favorite singers. He is going to be 85 and he is still as amazing as ever. I really enjoyed watching him sing and dance with Haley.
All this talk about Haley being able to out-sing Tony Bennett! Let's have some respect for the man, don't forget that he was ALSO in his 20's at one time. I don't know of too many 85 year olds, let alone 65 year olds, who can still belt them out like he does. Just the mere fact that she once sang a duet with the great Tony Bennett will benefit her career! Hmmm, I wonder what HER voice will sound like at 85??
JHO is fucking jealous that she don't got the class like Haley got. Comon if I was her I would be too, since she is such a attention seeker. Haley is just magical. There isn't really anything to describe her voice because it has never been described before. It's so unique, warming yet she can growl. Pleasant to the ears. Too bad most Americans are deaf tone by the mainstream music. She's too good for the average joes.
Hayley needs to stick with this genre. She has a great voice, but this just suites her so much more than what she was singing throughout the show. And although singing with Carrie Underwood or Tim McGraw is really cool, this is INCREDIBLE. Tony Bennett is one of the greatest performers of all time. It makes me really sad that this kind of talent and music is completely lost on people who are in high school now. Singers from the 40's and 50's were the best. When Hollywood was clean and shiny.
This is the kind of Stuff Haley just absolutely kills at. This jazzy old school stuff makes her come off as sexy, sassy, sweet as honey and just pure amazing. She wasn't a favorite of mine for most of the season. Kept thinking she needed to go home; but, when her and Casey paired up.. bango, Haley turned pure star IMHO. Amazing performances.
Also, it's pretty great how Tony is not creepy at all with her; he's respectful, while still having fun, which is great to see. I can just imagine Sinatra singing with her...I don't think he'd be able to keep is his eyes, or his hands, off of her.

It's not everyday that we see the forgotten genre to be given a spotlight to a big show as AI. And Haley is very much privileged to represent her generation in the branch of I may call the "old people's music". I'm as old as Haley and I love jazz and it's thrilling to watch how they diffuse the noise of today's trashy music. :)
i'll support this "show". i cried whenever the judges played favorites & criticized D. Cook & Siobhan M. to the ground. and i love watching how these 2 humbled themselves, improved themselves & put up a good fight week after week. Haley is no different from these 2 Winners! okay. for the record, the no. of views of paired performances are also influenced by the celebrity. haley performed w/ tony bennett and bennett's fans (older demographics), as you can imagine, are not into netsurfing, let alone youtube. Most ofJack Black's and Tim's fans are much younger who may have heard that their idol performed on AI so they go to youtube & watch it. so you can imagine that this 11,000+ views are haley's fans alone. get my point?
@ronhep49, Christina and Tony's duet version was exactly what prompted me to do the Haley-Christina comparison. Although I don't want to choose who between Christina and Haley sang it better, I just wished that Tony Bennett did not seem to have forgotten his verse with his duet with Haley. Haley's voice has an advantage in that its softness and sensuality doesn't become too strong or offensive and over the top. Her voice is very feminine.
I'd like to compare Haley to Christina Aguilera. I know, some of you may not be fans of Christina and you will probably say that they have different voices. But if I may, these ladies can sing any genre and fit right in. They possess strong attitude that others have wrongly judged as somewhat conceited. But in the end. they are comfortable onstage as if the song is their 2nd skin. They don't have to put up gimmicks to entertain the audience because they do that with their pure talent.
Although it's easy to see how much she has grown throughout the past three months, I think it was always there, she was just smart enough to keep us waiting each week to see what she would "be able" to do next, when she knew she was able of doing anything. Can't wait for her to release her own stuff, hopefully with more jazzy duets like this, who wouldn't want to record with her!?

Haley could have out sang Bennett that night, with the power and youth of her voice, she showed a lot of class buy letting him be the center of attention that night. thumbs up Haley. i went to see Idol Live and was in front row center stage in Sacramento. I went for Casey, but Haley was my 2nd fav. i love them two. I hope the rumors are true.
i remember an elderly woman (of tony's generation) saying he was the least talented of the crooners...always flat. he's just outlived all his contemporaries. she could have paired up with someone better suited for her. i think they switched her song at the last minute, too. Casey would've been a better choice.

@renduke They released the listing of the tracks. "You Oughta Know" is the only new track. I'll buy it if I can purchase the individual track but I'm not going to be a sucker and give Interscope my money for 4 other tracks that I already own. I love Haley but hate Interscope for trying to make more money by simply repackaging 4 songs and only adding 1 new song.
Haley had said that she plans "Sultry, bluesy rock" for her first album. I can't wait to hear it! I have no doubt that she likes rock but, after reading several interviews, it's obvious that jazz is her greatest passion. I was just reading an article about Haley and honestly all I could do was laugh at the comments. "She has no soul." "Doesn't sing with feeling"...are these people kidding me?! She oozes soul, feeling, personality. I feel embarrassed that Americans can be so close minded to anything that isn't mainstream or cookie cutter. Disappointing. She has an amazing voice. Imagine this:Haley CAN do a spectacular duet w/ Judas Priest, Jack Black, Carrie Underwood, Gladys Knight & all the other guests that night and not become such a small side act. @oiiihbeta Haley won't sellout and just sing pop. She said in an interview recently that Interscope that recently signed her knows that she is not a pop artist and she wants it to be more bluesey, some rock, some jazz. She is currently writing some songs too. They are allowing her to do her thing.

haley is hands down the best contestant this season. The jazzy tone she has to her voice is so incredible. Im almost glad she didnt win and get stuck in a contract that would have currupted her style and make her into some cheesy pop artist. expect great things from her!

@fudgeologyfive I just listened to Christina Aquilera's and Tony Bennett version of the same song, and I was surprised that Christina's version with Tony was very lacking and nowhere near as good as Haley's. No spark at all, while Haley's was so colorful and soulful.

By the way I read an article about her Led Zeppelin performance a couple of days ago. Jimmy Page actually contacted Idol and said that they would like her to perform one of their songs. Not only have they never let anyone do that, but they ASKED her to do it. That says a lot to me.

To me, Haley was the most versatile singer, with the widest vocal range American Idol had for season 10... and if it was really judged based on just singing ability, she should have won! I do love Scotty though... someday Scotty will be so good!
Haley was clearly the best of 2011. Hands down, no question. This was the first year I watched Idol and it will be my last after I witnessed bias judges with agendas. I hope Hailey sky rockets past all of this season's Idols. Screw them.

Haley is simply unique and her song selection is close to what I would put together for CD to listen to, I love all types of music. I hope she makes a CD with half bluesy rock and a mix of other genres, like Jazz, Pop, R&B and even country.

@chelle1984, I think it's not proper to say which version is better based on "hitting all the notes". xtina's singing style in her version was rnb/pop, haley's was jazz. Jazz & pop have their own technique in singing.
This starts off so good! The jazzy piano music starts and then you see a narrow shot of a woman walking on holding a microphone. You know that it must be Haley and you know it's going to be a great performance.

I don't know of too many 85 year olds, let alone 65 year olds, who can still belt them out like he does. Just the mere fact that she once sang a duet with the great Tony Bennett will benefit her career! Hmmm, I wonder what HER voice will sound like at 85??
JHO is fucking jealous that she don't got the class like Haley got. Comon if I was her I would be too, since she is such a attention seeker. Haley is just magical. There isn't really anything to describe her voice because it has never been described before. It's so unique, warming yet she can growl. Pleasant to the ears. Too bad most Americans are deaf tone by the mainstream music. She's too good for the average joes.
Hayley needs to stick with this genre. She has a great voice, but this just suites her so much more than what she was singing throughout the show. And although singing with Carrie Underwood or Tim McGraw is really cool, this is INCREDIBLE. Tony Bennett is one of the greatest performers of all time. It makes me really sad that this kind of talent and music is completely lost on people who are in high school now. Singers from the 40's and 50's were the best. When Hollywood was clean and shiny.
This is the kind of Stuff Haley just absolutely kills at. This jazzy old school stuff makes her come off as sexy, sassy, sweet as honey and just pure amazing. She wasn't a favorite of mine for most of the season. Kept thinking she needed to go home; but, when her and Casey paired up.. bango, Haley turned pure star IMHO. Amazing performances.
Also, it's pretty great how Tony is not creepy at all with her; he's respectful, while still having fun, which is great to see. I can just imagine Sinatra singing with her...I don't think he'd be able to keep is his eyes, or his hands, off of her.

@hananielsen, and i think that Tony Bennett is very happy that he is performing his music with someone so young. It's not everyday that we see the forgotten genre to be given a spotlight to a big show as AI. And Haley is very much privileged to represent her generation in the branch of I may call the "old people's music". I'm as old as Haley and I love jazz and it's thrilling to watch how they diffuse the noise of today's trashy music. :)
i'll support this "show". i cried whenever the judges played favorites & criticized D. Cook & Siobhan M. to the ground. and i love watching how these 2 humbled themselves, improved themselves & put up a good fight week after week. Haley is no different from these 2 Winners! okay. for the record, the no. of views of paired performances are also influenced by the celebrity. haley performed w/ tony bennett and bennett's fans (older demographics), as you can imagine, are not into netsurfing, let alone youtube. Most ofJack Black's and Tim's fans are much younger who may have heard that their idol performed on AI so they go to youtube & watch it. so you can imagine that this 11,000+ views are haley's fans alone. get my point?
@ronhep49, Christina and Tony's duet version was exactly what prompted me to do the Haley-Christina comparison. Although I don't want to choose who between Christina and Haley sang it better, I just wished that Tony Bennett did not seem to have forgotten his verse with his duet with Haley.
Haley's voice has an advantage in that its softness and sensuality doesn't become too strong or offensive and over the top. Her voice is very feminine.
I'd like to compare Haley to Christina Aguilera. I know, some of you may not be fans of Christina and you will probably say that they have different voices. But if I may, these ladies can sing any genre and fit right in. They possess strong attitude that others have wrongly judged as somewhat conceited. But in the end. they are comfortable onstage as if the song is their 2nd skin. They don't have to put up gimmicks to entertain the audience because they do that with their pure talent.
Although it's easy to see how much she has grown throughout the past three months, I think it was always there, she was just smart enough to keep us waiting each week to see what she would "be able" to do next, when she knew she was able of doing anything. Can't wait for her to release her own stuff, hopefully with more jazzy duets like this, who wouldn't want to record with her!?

Haley could have out sang Bennett that night, with the power and youth of her voice, she showed a lot of class buy letting him be the center of attention that night. thumbs up Haley. i went to see Idol Live and was in front row center stage in Sacramento. I went for Casey, but Haley was my 2nd fav. i love them two. I hope the rumors are true.
i remember an elderly woman (of tony's generation) saying he was the least talented of the crooners...always flat. he's just outlived all his contemporaries. she could have paired up with someone better suited for her. i think they switched her song at the last minute, too. Casey would've been a better choice.

@renduke They released the listing of the tracks. "You Oughta Know" is the only new track. I'll buy it if I can purchase the individual track but I'm not going to be a sucker and give Interscope my money for 4 other tracks that I already own. I love Haley but hate Interscope for trying to make more money by simply repackaging 4 songs and only adding 1 new song.
Haley had said that she plans "Sultry, bluesy rock" for her first album. I can't wait to hear it! I have no doubt that she likes rock but, after reading several interviews, it's obvious that jazz is her greatest passion. I was just reading an article about Haley and honestly all I could do was laugh at the comments. "She has no soul." "Doesn't sing with feeling"...are these people kidding me?! She oozes soul, feeling, personality. I feel embarrassed that Americans can be so close minded to anything that isn't mainstream or cookie cutter. Disappointing. She has an amazing voice. True talent.
Imagine this:Haley CAN do a spectacular duet w/ Judas Priest, Jack Black, Carrie Underwood, Gladys Knight & all the other guests that night and not become such a small side act. She can keep up with the big names of many genres. And this isn't just wild imagining because we know for sure that she can do that.

@oiiihbeta Haley won't sellout and just sing pop. She said in an interview recently that Interscope that recently signed her knows that she is not a pop artist and she wants it to be more bluesey, some rock, some jazz. She is currently writing some songs too. They are allowing her to do her thing.

haley is hands down the best contestant this season. The jazzy tone she has to her voice is so incredible. Im almost glad she didnt win and get stuck in a contract that would have currupted her style and make her into some cheesy pop artist. expect great things from her!

Amazing performance by Haley with a jazz icon, Tony Bennett. She will have a fabulous career. AI gave her the exposure that gave her a leg up. She was so sweet with Tony when he forgit his lyrics. I can see her either on Broadway or eventually headlining in Vegas. Bravo Haley!!
@fudgeologyfive I just listened to Christina Aquilera's and Tony Bennett version of the same song, and I was surprised that Christina's version with Tony was very lacking and nowhere near as good as Haley's. No spark at all, while Haley's was so colorful and soulful.

By the way I read an article about her Led Zeppelin performance a couple of days ago. Jimmy Page actually contacted Idol and said that they would like her to perform one of their songs. Not only have they never let anyone do that, but they ASKED her to do it. That says a lot to me.

this was her best performance in my opinions in many ways. this song was SO right for her voice. it was so old school and jazzy, it was perfect. it sucks that this generation doesnt know good music and it would be hard for her to really sell this :(

To me, Haley was the most versatile singer, with the widest vocal range American Idol had for season 10... and if it was really judged based on just singing ability, she should have won! I do love Scotty though... someday Scotty will be so good!
Haley was clearly the best of 2011. Hands down, no question. This was the first year I watched Idol and it will be my last after I witnessed bias judges with agendas. I hope Hailey sky rockets past all of this season's Idols. Screw them.

Haley is simply unique and her song selection is close to what I would put together for CD to listen to, I love all types of music. I hope she makes a CD with half bluesy rock and a mix of other genres, like Jazz, Pop, R&B and even country.
Haley never cease to surprise me in a delightful way. Her duet with Tony bennett is lovely. Only Haley can pull of Led, Stevie Nicks, Alanis and then sing with Tony and make it all work out. If this is identity crisis, I wish all singers suffer from it too.

@chelle1984, I think it's not proper to say which version is better based on "hitting all the notes". xtina's singing style in her version was rnb/pop, haley's was jazz. Jazz & pop have their own technique in singing.
This starts off so good! The jazzy piano music starts and then you see a narrow shot of a woman walking on holding a microphone. You know that it must be Haley and you know it's going to be a great performance.
