Pia did okay, but she still was as stiff as a dead man with rigor mortis. Haley, on the other hand, sang her Beyonce song way more soulful and way far better relative to Beyonce. Indeed, I wish she would have had a chance to sing that song on the show before the finale, because she would have inevitably had another standing O from the judges.

Merayah Carey Pia has a very fine voice, but the only time she sang anything dynamic was in the group numbers. And she did them well. However, every time she was singing solo she went for big ballads which made her seem like a one trick act. The judges told her that they wanted to see something different from her, but she never did it though goodness knows why. Haley went to the other extreme, I'm glad to say, but Randy and JLo gave her a hard time for it.

Being voted off was surprise as overall it was a powerful performance and all the judges were praising her very, very highly. Haley never had such lengthy, ringing praise even when she had standing ovations. The women were no doubt up against it with thon ridiculous voting system allowing people to fire off as many hundreds of votes as they could manage during the voting window. Obviously young teenage girls would be glued to their phones sending in their hundreds of votes for the boys they were crushing on. God knows how Haley reached 3rd. Idol had narrative going presenting Lauren and Scotty almost as young lovers - sigh! so sweet and romantic! Even Haley's brilliance couldna get her past that factor.

The ultimate aim of the show, and to hell with how they might achieve it, or what happens to the contestants apart from anyone they hope to tie up into post-show contracts.
