Actually, Alaina isn't half bad, but nonetheless she is not in Haley's league. Neither was Scotty.
The reason they both ended up in the finals, as opposed to Haley is because in 8 out of the 9 last seasons of Idol, the young adolescent females who always power voted together as a humongous voting bloc always voted cute boys as being the winners.
In season 10, they voted for Scotty as the cute boy, and Lauren because she was the girl they were shipping Scotty with. As Haley was too old for Scotty.
Nonetheless, even if she would have somehow made it to the final round, she still wouldn't have won in any event, since it was preordained that a cute boy would be the winner of Idol.
In fact, in the one season when a cute boy didn't win, the show was rigged by the producers so only a female could win. However, that strategy backfired on them big time. Because the show had been rigged so only a female could win, the level of talent overall fell off dramatically and Idol ended up losing most of its audience, and in subsequent years it never was able to win them back, which inevitably led to the show's eventual demise.
Singing well is the best revenge.
I'm glad she didn't win, most who lose have better opportunities to do their music than the winners of idol. Her talent deserves more than cookie cutter record labels.

I remember hearing her say "see ya later" and knowing that she wasn't kidding. now she's topping iTunes charts, publishing deal, cartoon voice, performing everywhere and getting BetteR as an artist. drop the ep Haley!!

This may be my Chicago bias talking, but Haley really should have won that year. I mean, I didn't hate Scotty, but let's face it, he sounds like any other male country singer. Haley's voice is something different, something that I really think we need more of. At least it's nice to know that she's doing well for herself.

I love Haley. At first her reaction was like "...Okay America.... I see out it is..." Then, she made everyone regret there decision of picking Lauren by KILLING "Benny and the Jets". She has a new multi-album deal with a major record label and she is currently working on a new album to be released late Spring or early Summer by her new major record label, so the nominations will be on the way in the not too distant future.
Nonetheless, she just recently won a Clio award and several other awards earlier this year.

When Haley cranked up the volume in front of the judges, that was the best "in your face" moment I've ever seen or heard. Tyler at that moment, knew a big mistake was made and Haley made sure they wouldn't forget it. She was robbed!

The first time I saw this girl was on PMJ. I had the autoplay on in the background, and her cover of Creep came up. I was like "oh. creep. whatever who the fuck cares? everyone covers this."

Here's a professional vocal coach's post I found on a vocal forum in response to a poster who asked if Haley Reinhart is the best vocalist on American Idol ever:
Haley's strength, in addition to the incredibly rich rasp in her voice, which makes her very uncommon by itself, is really a combination of many things:
-- She is pitch perfect all the time
-- She has above average range in her chest register
-- She has a very powerful voice
-- She has a decent lower register which is super sexy
-- She has a great head voice which gives her another octave of very usable notes
-- She has a whistle tone which is one of the best I have ever heard
-- She can yodel
-- She can growl
-- She can TRILL FFS. NO ONE does this well, but Haley does it perfectly
-- I think I have even heard her do a little throat singing, though I'm not 100% on that.
And here's the real kicker. She moves between all of these modes effortlessly. The average person wouldn't even notice the transition it’s so smooth. It's like there is a master pianist in her throat playing her vocal chords like there is no tomorrow. I've never heard anything like it.
On top of having possibly the most versatile and controlled voice I have ever heard, she also has an excellent sense of what works, emotionally, musically to make people feel, and that's just a gift you can't quantify.
Basically, you like her voice because she's f*cking AMAZING! Seriously, amazing.
A trill is an extremely quick alternation between two adjacent notes. Any decent pianist can do it on a piano. Very few people can do it with their vocal chords. Its a little like a vibrato, but the notes are clearly distinct and separated exactly by a tone or semitone.
See the live version of "You've Really Got A Hold On Me". The last 15 seconds she goes into a trill. Right after that she fluidly goes straight into this yodel that's like, she's picking through a basket of wonderful notes, tossing them left and right, searching for the perfect one. Then, she finds it. She picks it up and just hangs it out to dry.
I was a big fan of her's before this moment, but after she did that I was like, "She did NOT just do that!?!"
I really don't know how many times I watched that back. I kinda took on a worship mentality after those 15 seconds.
In comparison to past idol contestants who I have viewed, I absolutely love both Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert, as well as several others, the listing of whom would really be outside the scope of this posts intentions. These two are (arguably) considered by many to be the best vocalists on the show to date so I will look at them. Speaking only of the number of vocal tools in their toolset that they showed on AI, they don't match Haley. It should be noted, while I have heard all of their idol performances, I have not analyzed them as deeply.
While I would definitely not say she has a larger toolset than "anyone", I don't think I have ever heard another singer with the same toolset. That doesn't even count her amazingly unique rich tone.
So in answer to your question, I'm gonna go with a definitive probably.

I just saw this for the first time. I've been watching the Post Modern Jukebox's (PMJ) videos featuring Haley for a couple months now. I'm enthralled by her talent! I had no idea she was a contestant on American Idol. I thought it was cruel to make her sing another tune after learning that she lost, but she redirected her focus to her inner talent, took the mike and showed the world what a truly outstanding vocalist she really is. Also, my heartfelt "Thank You" to PMJ for introducing me to Haley.

Haley Reinhardt gave the best performances of all time on American Idol and will always reign supreme. Her voice, her passion and her sexiness are all unequaled among female vocalists, past and present. If anyone doubts that I invite them to listen and view her rendition of 'Baby it's Cold Outside'. When you see someone with the master voice that Haley has voted off this show you can see why its no longer on the air. People were sick and tired of seeing amazing performers like Haley tossed off while others that could not hold a note in their hands move forward. Well Haley in my book should have been crowned the winner hands down. She was way too good for this show in the first place.

Scotty who actually won the competition has released four albums and is a pretty big country success. Her and Lauren have both released the same amount of albums. And Lauren is doing a lot of touring right now. I watched that season and a lot of them were very talented especially the top three. Besides most people who watch idol realize that you don't have to win to be a success Idol just gives you the platform to have your voice heard. Even the judges have made that clear.

While the winner deserves her due as awell, but my first reaction was that ,' Whooo they sure picked the wrong one . Haley is the superior entertainer, given this performance and all others .' She has RUclips videos to watch . She has developed into major talent.

That vote was almost criminal. No offense to Lauren, but Haley was SO much better in nearly every way. Better performer, sexier (by far) and a better voice.

Don't watch Idol so don't care about the idiocy of having the idiots at home decide who's got real talent. Just discovered Haley via her cover of Creep and have listened to as much of her as I can. Her range, stylistically and vocally is amazing in a young artist. I swear she's got a direct channel to the souls of the great female vocalists, living and dead. Can't wait to hear and see what this talented woman brings us in the future - she is electrifying.
Elton John songs are possibly the hardest to sing. They are tailor made for Elton John. Even the best voices can't pull it off. But Haley brought down the house twice using Elton. This was a huge mistake, she should've won.

Yes she has a very unique "Growling" voice as some people call it, but her stage presence and her voice over all is so much better than Scotty and Laurens. It just goes to show how America has wronged so many amazing performers on this show.
Sometimes it's better to not win. Take Chris Daughtry for instance. He's only less successful than ~5 'winners'.
In a number of instances, it's actually better for the artist to _NOT_ win. In post-idol interviews, I think right after his first album came out, he mentioned that had he won, he would not have been able the kind of music/album he wanted to make.
I don't really follow Haley as I did not like her style. I loved her voice, just not the songs she chose and/or her reinterpretation(s) with them. To _me_, with the exception of "I Who Have Nothing", she just kind of 'butchered' whatever she was singing. Especially, 'Benny and the Jets". But perhaps she might be seeing more success than were she to _have_ won? Or at least perhaps much happier/fulfilled in that she can make the music she wants rather than being forced into something more 'mainstream'.
I still remember at the begiining of this season she's the underdog. And look where she is now.

That was the last season I watched. I am a retired musician, and I had her picked right from the start to win. The two that beat her out are not even in her league. I don't hate saying it either. She is so much more talented than Scotty that it became obvious to me that this is not a singing, or talent, competition, but a popularity contest. Goodbye, American Idol.
Haley has a smokey low range in her voice that catches me by surprise sometimes.

I stopped watching idol because everyone would loose interest in the winner about 2 weeks after the finale. Country "singers" won anyway. The voice is the only show left in America that actually shows true talent. The X-Factor and America's Got Talent are jokes.
The problem with the show is this, when you have "America" vote, you end up with millions of teenagers who call in for the person they think is the cutest or that they connect with. Which means the contestants like Haley who reach that audience of mid 20's (at the lower end of the spectrum) to people in their 40's and up, those people are less likely to call in and vote. So the 12 yr old kids with cell phones push their favorite through. Once they open the lines for America to vote, it's no longer a show based on actual talent. It's a who has the most pre-teen and teen fans who think they are cute competition. Sad thing is, all of those 12-17 yr old boys who liked Haley were busy doing other things with their hands after watching her perform to actually call in and vote.

Its such a shame. That night before she put on the single greatest Idol performance I had ever seen. It makes it even more sad because you could tell by the reaction on her face she knew she was the best in that competition. She wasn't surprised, more in shock really.

Cactass Dupree Jax is the most talented of the final three but with American Idol, it boils down to the final votes of the young female voters. They vote for the guys, plain and simple. Somewhere along the line they should have given the panel a say in the final votes at the end. If that had been happening, Jax would have won.

Haley performed at a radio station the other day. The man putting together the audio mix for their recording posted to FB yesterday: "I'm getting chills mixing Haley Reinhart's performance. This girl can sing!" That drew this response: "I mixed her when she was on American Idol. Best voice that season by far!!"
I hardly ever watched this program but this particular season I watched a few episodes and this girl can sing, she deserved to win and i was very surprised she did not win. No wonder she reacted like this, she was shocked too.
Haley should've won American Idol that Year cos, She Got the Pipes, the Tone, the Vocal Range, the Feel, the Groove, Yuuuurrrpp She Can Sing!!! and she got the Looks, the Body, and a beautiful inner calm sanctity ...
The fix was in. Haley was clearly the best competitor of the season. For some reason the network was desirous of a face off between the male and female country singers.
Well, they got what they wanted. Two bland performers who really haven't stirred things up on the music scene. Hayley was the true winner. We know that. Politics as usual. Nuff said.

Lauren is doing just fine too and so is Scotty...so good for them, but Haley was THE STAR of that season...maybe the BEST EVER from American Idol...

How do people not recognize talent when they hear it? I just don't get it. Any halfwit can sing country and exaggerate a country accent. However, very few could belt it out like Ms. Reinhart here. I'd love to see Scotty McGreery attempt half the songs that Haley sang perfectly. She is just blatantly better, both technically (better range, control, vibrato) and musically (more emotion, a better performer). This country has so many problems and, obviously, having even a semblance of musical taste and is one of them.
Also, I'd say she took that well. I can't say I would have been that accepting of it lol. Hard to not be bitter when the public chose those two over you.

Haley might have been the best Idol contestant that season. Only problem that kept Haley from winning is that many Idol viewers and voters are country music fans. Scotty had a unique sounding country music voice and Lauren, while not quite as good as Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler, was still talented enough to have a huge country music fan following.
Haley's exit performance was arguably the best ever on Idol.

Haley has ,by far, the most unique voice and control of her runs ever on Idol to date. She just didn't have the teen vote that they other two did because she has a far more complex and mature voice. Idol is a teeny bopper show - teen popularity contest and the best voice does not necessarily win in any of these tv singing contests.
Artists like Kris Allen, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Phillip Phillips, and Kree Harrison are a dime a dozen. Artists like Adam Lambert, Haley Reinhart, Jessica Sanchez, and Amber Holcomb are a rare commodity.

Yes, we all saw the expression. But what an amazing and brave performance immediately after. A very talented young lady, and she performs "House of the Rising Sun" like no one before her, ever.
How did this gorgeous and insanely good singer get voted off? Her voice gives me chills and I can't say that about many other idol contestants. So disappointed she didn't win. Idol has really frustrated me over the years. Rarely do the best artists win.

Actually JLO had one or two sensible things to say about Haley. She commented on how Haley's voice just goes wherever she wants it to go, the different colours and tones in it, and also said it was probably the best voice in the competition. She was the only one to say this sort of thing. However, it does seem as if she started to follow "get rid of Haley" orders by the last 5. Jackson was a complete idiot of course, and rude with it. Tyler loved everybody, not just Haley.

Haley is starting to get the recognition she deserves. It took a little longer than Scotty and Lauren, but that's cause she has too much respect for music to come up with senseless rubbish! She will surely surpass Lauren and Scotty and will be regarded as on of the great talents to come out of idol when it's all said and done!

Well said. I think and remember her voice every time and she surely did some justice to "Benny & the Jets". Her voice is spectacular and nothing yet to beat that. I feel Adam Lambert and Haley Reinhart are two of my best idols that didn't get the title but certainly deserved it.

Absolutely correct. They all have their unique voices and they simply stand out. They may not have received the deserved crown on idol but they are still winning hearts out there.

My favorite reaction ever because it was a genuine reaction that any normal person would have when faced with a major disappointment. The "I'm so happy for my opponent" reaction is sooo disingenuous and saccharin. I'm glad that she didn't pull that fake crap. Stay true girl!!

I’d rather pay to see Haley Reinhart in concert in a rundown theater than to pay to see Scotty McCreery in concert in a state-of-the-art arena.
This was the exact moment I knew I wouldn't watch Idol again. And if you remember the week leading up to the final, Idol put out that Lauren might not be up for the final and Haley was going to take her place. I thought hum I just might watch the final. But of course didn't happen. So I watched Haley and Tony Bennett sing and then turned the channel. Checked Idol ratings and after season ten it was pretty much all down hill from there. And I would bet this final season is the lowest and Fox can't wait to get it off the air. I call it Haley's fan curse. LOL Haley will always be my American Idol.

Man oh man, it's always a game to the big guys. Arguably one of the best vocals ever. Trying to crush true talent... I am over the moon with happiness that Haley fought back and she's showing them.
Also why do they not appreciate difference, I prefer the difference of her voice over the sameness in everyone else's.

I have never watched American Idol , But I did stumble onto Hailey and PMJ on youtube, and have since seen her live performance. I can tell you for a fact , she is a class act/person. The above video shows it too, She performs magnificantly after being voted off.
