Do Black and White
I love the slow paced, "make me weep song", "ONE" by TDN!
We've all been there.
And then after you do "Black and White", and "Out In The Country" and "Liar", do "One" and after you do "One" do Australian John Farnham's live version of "One". John is the only singer that I've ever heard that has a strong enough voice to handle that song.
For that period of time, Three Dog Night were so incredibly ahead of the curve.
They combined Rock, Blues, and Soul with absolutely stellar harmonies.
No auto tune , just pure vocal talent. All 3 lead singers were awesome. This was my timeframe, teens into 20 s. Sooooo much great music. Happy you reactors are bringing it back for new generations to experience.Thank You
about my time frame too.
Us hippie's demanded authenticity. Most of these artists were 'triple threats'. They could write, play an instrument, AND sing. So grateful I was there to experience America's Golden Era.🙏
No auto tune or gimmicks just Talent. I Still have their music 🎶thanks 😊
Cory Wells was amazing!!! Love that you're loving this!
These guys gave one of the best live shows in rock-saw them twice, about this time.
The all-time kings of platform shoes and tight big bell bottoms!
We've just been to church!
Blues and Gospel with a little rock n roll.
Their "Black & White" is still inspirational. Groovy....
And still prevalent in todays society.
Written by Laura Nyro (rhymes with Cairo), a great under-appreciated songwriter, singer & pianist.
That's weird, because if you are talking about her last name, everyone I've ever heard talk about or introduce her pronounces her last name like the Roman Emperor, Nero.
@@StevesFunhouse It is pronounced like the emperor "Nero".
I heard her straighten it out one time...
@@paulsullivan1650 SO, you were just confirming then ???
Along with Stoned Soul Picnic, And When I Die and more!
Never miss a chance to hear one of my favorites!! Love Three Dog Night ! Miss them much! RIP Cory Wells!✌️❤️
Damn. This sounds like the sunrise. I don't think I've ever heard a better description.
Cory Wells brought the soul from New York -where he was raised - to west coast to start the band.
You should definitely react to Family Of Man and Black And White. Those two are representative of our 70s attitudes and hopes. Then One Is The Lonliest Number, Joy To The World aka Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog, Old Fashioned Love Song, Never Been To Spain, Out In The Country, Easy to Be Hard, Pieces of April, Celebrate, Sure as I'm Sittin Here, and Liar which is another dramatic one.
3 great lead singers for 3 Dog Night
Not to mention Michael Alsup, Floyd Sneed, Joe Schermie and Jimmy Greenspoon. Great band.
"If a sunrise were a song, this is what it would sound like."
WOW. I have know this song since it was new, and I was a kid, and I love the intro. That's the best way to describe it I've never heard.
Thank you! You earned another sub.
THREE DOG NIGHT, "ELI'S COMING". Grooving late 60's, thru mid 70'S... They had 21 straight charting songs, including 11 top 10 songs. 12 Gold Albums. more... "MAMA TOLD ME NOT TO COME", "ONE", "TRY SOME TENDERNESS", "GOING IN CIRCLES", "LIAR", "JOY TO THE WORLD", "HEAVY CHURCH", "FAMILY OF MAN", "NEVER BEEN TOO SPAIN", "EASY TO BE HARD", "OUT IN THE COUNTRY", "PIECES OF APRIL", "SHOW MUST GO ON", LEAD SINGERS, "CORY WELLS", "CHUCK NEGRON", "DANNY HUTTON"...
Sounds like the sun rising, beautiful
Well, I just lost an hour of my morning because I got caught up watching these guys and couldn't quit. I LOVE THEM !
My favorite is Never Been to Spain, written by Hoyt Axton who also wrote their monster hit Joy to the World.
Axton also wrote "The Pusher" and "Snowblind Friend" done by Steppenwolf.
Their voices were sooo gold... I miss them!
Just an Old Fashioned Love Song, Joy to the World
Good to see the younger generation blown away just like we were every other day growing up in the magical musical 70s
I preferred the studio version but this performance was greatly entertaining and loads of fun. I can still see cats from H.S. sporting those threads - 🥸!
Your reaction was thoughtful for a young(er) dude not having lived through that era. It was crammed full or great, great music and I’m now 63 and still finding music gems from days gone by - so enjoy it all my friend and much luck and success to your channel! TW.
I also prefer the studio version. I don't need this long intro, and then the body of the song sounds rushed. But mainly, you can't hear the great piano and organ nearly as much as in this version: ruclips.net/video/1A2eet1bttY/видео.html
The lead singer here, Cory Wells, exhibited a lot of “blue-eyed soul” in his singing. Listen to “Try a Little Tenderness” for more of this. An old Otis Redding song. Cory does it justice, for sure. I enjoyed your reaction.
Cory was my ❤️
@@ngala08
I LOVED Cory. I saw them in concert when I was in high school. I screamed “Cory” the whole time. Can you believe it? 😆
RIP Cory
Such an ethereal voice. 🤗
Corey Wells does justice to Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" ...
Easy to be hard is a great three dog night tune
Soulful R&B Rock n Roll with a sense of humor too boot. What’s not to LOVE 💕 😃
And always use this 1975 TV special! It is the best showcase of their catalog!
3 Dog Night were ahead of their time. Beautiful harmonies, blue-eyed soul and just plain wonderful guys. You might like Black and White.
Soundstage was a great TV show on PBS that was filmed in Chicago
Three Dog Night was the first band I ever saw live on stage (1969)
I almost forgot how GREAT this song was/is.. The fact that they had THREE lead singers made ALL their music very interesting, unique. .Felt like they just dropped the holy ghost up in there.
Welcome aboard, youngster! I really like 👍 your interpretation of this song. I fell in love with this group back in 1973, when I was just entering Jr. High School. Three Dog Night performed at my older sister and brothers high school when they were attending and I eventually graduated from.
You've got to hear the writer of this song, Laura Nyro, sing it. She plays all of the harmonies herself.
Okay, just watched it and came back to tell you thank you. That outro was amazing.
My favorite song was Mama told me not to come! I am a great grandmother and I loved this group and also Credence Clearwater revival. And of course the Dobe Brothers
I'll say It again three of Americas best singers three dog night don't play instruments don't write just sing wow
Try a little tenderness, Never been to Spain, A change is gonna come. All their songs - love them. Love Cory, everything about him - that voice.
Eargasm unavoidable.
Back when pop music was worth listening to. Heard them live and a great show
This whole concert on Soundstage was amazing. You should see the whole show.
I loved these guys. Cory, the lead singer here, was my favorite. He bluesy voice was just fantastic.
So much soul and harmony. This is my fave. version of this song. Just like going to a gospel concert.
Way up north a three dog night meant it would take three dogs to stay warm so it just meant a really cold night! This was always my favorite TDN song!
I had not heard this version in all my years. Thanks so much
Cory Wells is the best singer, dancer, entertainer of all time! What a sexy man!!! 3 Dog Night...best band ever!!❤️❤️❤️
Sad we lost Cory Wells in 2015 😔
Glad someone else noticed that Cory could move!
Three Dog Night belongs in the Rock HOF!!! They were fantastic 🤩🤩🤩
This song was huge when it came out…
Listen to "One" by Three Dog Night.
The tempo of this live version is definitely faster than the studio song version. I guess they wanted to mix it up when they were live.
Awesome reaction to an awesome song
Shambala is my personal all-time favourite from them. The message of it is truly beautiful!
Love me some TDN. Gets better with age. Since '60s to now.!!
Check out 'Til the World Ends' by Three Dog Night. It is one of the most beautiful ballads ever.
Goes into the the call/response of the gospel tradition. Amazing!
Three Dog Night had 21 Top 40 songs in 6 years. You are so right. They can't be put in a box! They are amazing! The Soundstage concert was sooo good! They are not in the RRHOF! What a shame! Especially Cory Wells with that sexy soulful voice. Cory singing TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS was outstanding! Check it out. You will not be disappointed. Back in the day, we did not have the videos available like today. You hear Kiss, Rolling Stone, Elton John, even Michael and Elvis, you knew immediately who it was. TDN songs were so different from one another. Not one is the same as the other! No one was like them! Just amazing.
Music like this thru my younger years was awesome. So much to choose from , all great. And thanx to channels like yours whole new generations are experiencing it’s greatness. Love your channel sir👍👌😎
I feel like music nowadays is overly produced. Especially live performances. When you see a live performance like this it blows your mind because you can't make a mistake and just fix it with technology.
Wonderful selection! You’ll love the composer too- Laura Nyro. Also by her: Stoned Soul Picnic and And When I Die.
Joy To The World is my personal favorite
When music was music
This is music in my soul since I was a kid of 14
I grew up on TDN.i I would tell you to listen to easy to be hard next. Can't believe they are not in the rock and roll Hall of Fame
These guys were unbelievable in concert and talented has hell…..
just fantastic....I've always loved this song and still listen to it
In the Country beautiful song
I had every one of their albums. I love this one because I think of my grandpa Eli, who died in 1969, I was 6 years old
Pieces Of April
They were performers alright! They all had perfect pitch...each one could hold his own in every way!!
Great reaction to a great performance, one I had never heard, this is a Laura Nyro song, please check out "Up on the Roof" by Lauro Nyro, thanks.
I see some church there! 💖❤️🔥
Just getting turned on to these guys. Their vocals are fire!
👍❤️
First, I want to say that I was 9 yrs old when I heard this song by 3 Dog Night on the radio in 1969. I loved every single song they had done. I would like to suggest one or two of their songs for you to check out. "Joy To The World" and "One."
Also Black and White. Although ONE is my favorite.
At the time they were on the radio, I recall Three Dog Night being criticized for not writing their own music. And it’s true. They didn’t write much, but they were great musicians and even better performers. Chuck Negron had a spectacular voice. They often took overlooked songs or ones that had been minor hits and turned them into massive hits with huge airplay.
The first one of theirs I ever heard was “Easy to Be Hard”, a less-than-popular song from the musical “Hair” which Three Dog Night turned into a big hit. My favorite? “A Change Is Gonna Come”.
They had 3 lead singers who could have been top in any band
Ist concert I went to was them...I was 16, late 60's in Pittsburgh. I was shocked at the bras and panties being thrown up to stage ...lol.
Fabian you’re description of this as a sunrise was brilliant!
much appreciated
Favorite band of my teenage years. Family of Man might be my favorite of theirs, but if I think about their music I probably could name 20 songs that might be my favorite. They were that good.
Three Dog Night were awesome
Another one of my favorites groups of the late 60's! They had so msny hits! ❤❤❤
The guys were high as kites, on all their shows.
They are good, that's all there's to it. You need to listen to their recorded songs. We listened to these guys since they first came out while i was in junior highschool on the jukebox! ❤
I was born too late.I wish I had seen these guys in person.can you imagine being in the audience?
"One" (Is the loneliest number).
This is a long version of the song. The radio version did not have the long intro. It was the fast paced 2nd half. They were quite popular in the early 70s.
Back then, everyone in any band had to be able to sing and play an instrument!!! Stage shows were things of fantasy and wonder because everyone you saw was an artist in their own right!!! The groups all imitated the motown sound if they weren´t actually already on that label!!! Motown had numerous groups like this one: Average White Band (AWB), Doobie Bros, and so on!!!
They were a really good band
I saw them in Florida in 2019, they still had two of the Original guys. It was a great show.
Out in the country will show another side to them.
Three lead singers. By the way they outsold the Beatles four four straight years. True
"Sounds like the sun rising". Wow, what a great analogy. Best comment I've heard about this one. This video didn't have the best sound tho. I like their studio version best but I also like the intro in this video.
I was just out of high school when that came out. I loved Three dog night! great song. They are playing around.
A very cold night. A three dog night
When they get there, they came to work.
What's impressive about this is it was recorded in August of '75 when the group's end was in sight. They'd already lost original musicians Mike Allsup (guitar), Floyd Sneed (drums) and Joe Schermie (bass). By the end of the year, Danny Hutton (singer on the left) was gone, and the group disbanded in July of '76.
They reformed in the 80's and a sort-of group still tours today. Unfortunately, Cory Wells (lead singer on this), Jimmy Greenspoon (piano) and Schermie have passed away.
I graduated from high school the year this came out. That's not the version I remember. That sounded like the song's finalé.
❤ RIP Cory🌹
I was lucky and saw them at the Cotton Bowl Dallas summer of 1969. I was 14. Thank you sir.😉
RIP Cory
What a glorious reaction video.
You Fabian losing it at about 9:30, hardly can blame you for that, that is some crazy harmonies, magnificient changes of pace and voices.
Another one from them you might like is Liar.
