@@Cruiser-tb5zcNot true at all. Every state has a set of FST's that each officer must follow to the letter. And as far as I know, most states are identical. For instance, I was a cop in Ohio and move here to North Carolina after I retired. North Carolina and Ohio have the exact same policy on conducting FST's, HGN, and PBT during a potential DUI/OVI stop. Anything else isn't only not admissible in court but its also against policy. I guess what Im trying to say is that unless you have some sort of disability or impairment (aside from drugs or alcohol), you will be able to pass standard FST's as the HGN and PBT are not mobility based tests. They are designed specifically for that purpose.

That’s because before body cams, he would’ve had his keys taken away, an Uber or taxi called, and he’d go to the precinct the next day with a hangover to retrieve his keys. Body cams have changed everything. I am a former cop and while I didn’t have much time on..I am just happy to be out of that line of work.
99% of DUI/OVI suspects swear they're ok to drive, and insist they're being done wrong when they're arrested, he's no different because he's a cop. One of the reasons for this is that the impairment itself makes people unable to realize how impaired their driving is. This guy probably believed he was able to drive just fine, at least while he was intoxicated, and legitimately felt the other cops were being pricks. The real question is, what were his thoughts about the arrest and how did he react once he was sober.

From telling his fellow officer that he was doing the test wrong, to informing both officers that he was the highest ranking OVI officer around, to blubbering when he couldn't do the tests. Wonderful. Good job to the officers for putting him under arrest without calling in the bosses. Great job!
Normally they call the bosses to notify them that they are arresting an officer. Especially if it is someone that is in there department. This is so the supervisors are in the loop also I have seen a few departments where it would appear their SOP in the event the person pulled over then a supervisor comes out to observe the field test or to conduct the test. That way all their Ts are crossed and Is dotted with the case. I definitely give the officers props though. Sounds like one excused himself because he knew the suspect, and the one doing everything was extremely professional. At best he seemed a little annoyed that he was having to do this with another officer cause that guy should have known better. Even then it sounded like how they were going to handle it to also give the suspect the most unbaised treatment/testing.

This is why we need a federal law that mandates that every cop in America has to wear a body cam at all times the moment they come on duty. Or maybe they should have two body cams so they can’t use the excuse of “oh it wasn’t working” or “I forgot to turn it on” and they have to have it turned on if they’re on duty, and only able to turn it off for one minute at a time for when they’re doing something like using the bathroom or something. Otherwise they shouldn’t be able to even turn it off. And if it is legitimately not working then they cannot be on duty and have to return to the precinct. I’ve known cops who were on the force for decades and they’ve all told me the same thing “everybody’s behavior changed when they started wearing body cams”. Before that if a cop got pulled over for a DUI either they would call his wife and have her come pick him up or they would just drive him home themselves. If there were two officers in the car one would get his keys and drive his car over to his house and carry him into his house and put him in bed, tuck him in, kiss him on the forehead and read him a bedtime story, wish him a good night and nothing would happen to him. You know, until he killed a bunch of people when he drove drunk and hit a bus with the kids or a station wagon full of peewee football players on the way home from the game. This is why you absolutely should not ever trust people in authority to obey the law! There have to be checks and balances. That’s why when the founding fathers set up our country they set up checks and balances with different branches of government so all of the separate branches would keep the other branches honest because you can’t trust people, ever! When you have a system where people are in a position of authority and have power over others you have to have checks and a balances on their behavior. when you have someone like the police with virtually no checks or balances on their behavior, of course they turn into dictators and abuse their power and make sure that the rules they’re supposed to enforce don’t apply to them because they’re human and that’s what humans do. Come on say it with me people: Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. For the first time in history police are expected and required to obey the laws are supposed to enforce. no wonder they hate body cams! and whenever there’s a problem the body cam was “forgotten to be turned on” or “malfunctioned”. Google videos where the police tried to steal someone’s cell phone after they videotape them violating someone’s rights and are beating them down for no reason there’s plenty of videos out there like that the reason they try to stealthe video camera or the cell phone from the person who just videotaped them murdering someone assaulting someone violating someone’s constitutional rights, is because they knew they were guilty I didn’t want to be held accountable. Cockroaches hate it when you turn on the lights, people are much less likely to commit crimes when they know that everyone in America and the world could witness them violating the law. Transparency is the only thing that will keep us safe from those in positions of power. Democracy dies in darkness.

I would wager that most sober people would never be able to pass them. Sorry I don't have a link but they should be fairly easy to find with a quick search.
That's all a fine and dandy excuse but doesn't dismiss that these cops were driving drink. @@Cruiser-tb5zc

99% of DUI/OVI suspects swear they're ok to drive, and insist they're being done wrong when they're arrested, he's no different because he's a cop. One of the reasons for this is that the impairment itself makes people unable to realize how impaired their driving is. Major props to the arresting officer, doing a damn fine job of getting that drunk cop off the streets and making the place safer

If he was so worried about his career he should not have been drinking and driving. Plain and simple.
Also, in his situation, he should have been the professional that the other officers were being to him. I understand the alcohol, but as an officer, he should have understood that nothing he was going to do on that side of the road would have helped him and likely only lead to having 3 felonies instead of the 1 for driving under the influence. He would have likely not got as serious of a charge for his service weapon and for sure not the charge for hitting the patrol car if he just said nothing and gone with the officers. In addition, when his superiors reviewed the incident they would likely take note of how he handled the stop with a calm resolve.
not sure where he resides but when I was drunk I would just walk home from the bars , sure pissed alot of pigs off because I noticed them following me once in awhile.
