@@nonmihiseddeo4181 It definitely is. There have been loads of studies on this. A few here: In Mesa, Arizona, for example, use-of-force complaints decreased by 75% for officers using cameras in a pilot program.1 In Nampa, Idaho, they dropped by 24%. In San Diego, from a 2015 report based on preliminary statistics showed that body cameras helped reduce “personal body” force by officers by 46.5% In Rialto, California-after the police force had worn body cameras for a full year, citizen complaints against police declined by 60%. The number of incidents that resulted in the use of force by an officer, dropped by 88% after the use of body cameras. Officers who were not equipped with cameras were twice as likely to use force as officers who were.
@@riz8114 Couldn't those statistics also be attributed to citizen's knowing they are being recorded and the reduction in complaints are false complaints?

@@debra6636 You don't understand, there is no one whose job it is to watch every second of body camera footage. There has to be a report for the footage to be looked at, if not the footage is deleted after 90 days typically. But yes, no denying the body camera provides critical evidence.

I find it very scary that he said "I'd like to know who called it in". Why? What would or will he do with that information? The person reporting him was a concerned citizen. We don't need police officers going after law abiding citizens who did nothing wrong.

When the officer says to his superior "we've got it on camera" is a good example of why body cams should always be recording without the officer being able to control it.
Then you would have an untold number of hours of meaningless bodycam recoding requiring more storage which costs more. So you would be willing to pay higher taxes for the police department to buy more storage capacity to store all the meaningless recording of body cams when a small percentage of all the hours of the recording is done is all that is required.

@John Isho I just don't understand how people can't understand it. It's a coworker and a superior. On top of that, there is a difference between some trashy person getting a DUI and an officer, the "moral gap" is much wider for the latter, seeing as his reputation and career is gone. A factory worker with a DUI can still get a job, but this guy's life is over. I generally have a strong distaste for cops, but to not empathize with the arresting officer just seems unintelligent.
@John Isho What about a life saving doctor and a murderer? I'd say there is a big morale gap. We're all human but by how we live our lives and the choices we make define our morality.

Rajeev Shrivastava - not always. I’ve worked with Law Enforcement many years, and things have changed, regardless of Body cams. Body cams are NOT always in use, even if they’re being worn.
Pretty much any organization you can find that out. FD, EMS, and PD. The way most 911 centers are set up this goes in the CAD which is available in their records. Not trying to diminish his threatening tone, but unfortunately it’s just the way things are.
As a law enforcement officer who knows the law and has taken an oath, he shouldn’t be treated the same as any other civilian. He should be held accountable on a higher level, with an automatic loss of his career and straight to jail. It’s disgusting how they baby him. Thankfully they have cameras now.
I dunno if an officer should automatically lose his career if he gets a DWI, which is misdemeanor in many states. That just doesn't sit right with me. Many police officers have PTSD, which indicates a higher level of alcohol and drug abuse. Many of them need treatment instead of losing their careers.
A leader should never put his subordinates in a position like this. Or expect any special treatment that would jeopardize the investigating officers career.
Not just a leader but any cop who is irresponsible for upholding the law. He is so beligerant and smug. He knows he can get this to go away. Why waste your time. He will just make a fool out of his subordinates. Probable over some beers with his cop pals.
Only by accident it was recording! Had they had known before hand that it was lieutenant , they would had turned their cams off n he would have gotten off scott free!!!
Younger generation of LEOs don’t roll like that. They stick to SOP and call supervisors whenever they need support or have questions. That’s what they are taught at the academy.
So, not only does the Lt. think he’s above the law, he shows contempt for his own officers. Flipping them off for a position he put them all in. Wow. That show his character right there.
And then add pleading not guilty and hiring some clown that comes up with a 12 page defense against a clear d.u.i. Disgusting display of a law enforcement officer accepting responsibility for a mistake and/or medical problem.
I think he also asked her the mics off so they can have a discussion for a moment before the other officer called and then he told him no we have to keep them on
This infuriates me the fact that these cops want to give the lieutenant special treatment, and certainly would have if wasnt for the bodycam footage evidence. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
But I still understand why this is wrong. For them to have to make sure from their boss to not mute or turn off cameras. Luckily this officer knew better. Imagine if that other guy was in charge. Yikes
I do think a lot of the "you know we have to do this" and "it's all on bodycam" was more to get him to cooperate and not blame the officer's themselves for doing their job.
It’s seriously not cool that he’s able to look up who called him in. I can’t imagine anyone would choose not to keep that information private- especially in these circumstances- and certainly any regular person wouldn’t be privy to the identity of their accusers.
“Everything’s recorded now, we have to handle it how we have to handle it.” This is proof that before cameras, this would have NEVER happened and the LT would have went home without incident. Sick.
It depends, I have no doubt that would’ve happened in 60s or 70s. Probably not much since then. He might have said that trying to reason with this guy to get maximum compliance
Like the whole traffic stop dudes talking about “stop there’s nothing we can do, come on” Then 5 seconds later during the field sobriety test the other cop has to walk away and face the other way the whole time lol
But mostly for the criminals who cry wolf and attempt to sue the hell out of police, EMS, and others alike for wrongdoing… when it’s clearly not the case. That’s why lawyers have been attempting to take the cameras off the policeman the past 3-5 year now, especially in Cali, because the lawyers have a small amount of criminals to represent 😂 Idiots. Keep the cams!
"we're gonna have to pull him, we can't turn our cameras off or anything." This lieutenant is really putting his coworkers in an awkward position. The cameras are the great equalizer.
As I understand, the man lost his job but I highly doubt that anyone told him the name of who reported him, which makes me suspect that my theory is the more likely one : ) That it's tactical rather than actual. I am 99.9% they were just placating him in order to get his cooperation due to the man's state and position; there are a lot of police interrogation tactics revolving around ego to gain cooperation (see terms like "ego up"). Not saying that it's the most professional behaviour here but it is a path of least resistance, and frankly I do get it. I am sure that these police officers could lose their jobs as providing such 3rd party information to a defendant is not only unethical but illegal. But of course they could get access to the info of who reported it as that's part of the case though I'm sure the ease of that process depends on how it was reported (or through what channels and whether direct or indirect). Trust but verify ;)
exactly and it's sick that he said "I don't wanna do this" showing that they're totally fine with just having him drive home drunk to avoid awkward fallout

They should have called another department, sheriffs, state police anyone else to make it fair.
He wasn't charge with anything. If you read the document afterwards they dismiss it because they say the officer that conducted the tests was not properly trained
@Joe Sudz No he lied. The description clearly states the Lt. pleaded guilty to drunk driving and had his license revoked for 7 months along with having to take an alcohol course and he no longer works for the department. I've seen multiple comments now of people saying he wasn't charged just to make it seem like the cops are above the law. 😀
This franciscolopez guy is stupid. The description for the video literally says he got fired for this and had to take the dui class and everything that everyone has to do charged with the same thing. God people are stupid.
And you dont realize that is the problem, but you said it yourself common sense isn't common. Cops can treat people with respect and dignity. But they see themselves supervisor to the "civilian", most of the time cops go into a situation, and there first priority is to establish authority. That's the problem. They can start off with respect and curiosity, till the situation says they have too be aggressive.

"We can't mute our camera we can't do anything." That screams to me that muting their cameras is something they opt to do in some of these cases. "Everything is recorded now" Thank God
Yeah, thats super suspect, immediately goes to talking about muting audio, thats sketchy af. Obviously thats a tactic they use frequently for that to be one of the first things talked about. Body Cameras - keeping the corrupt accountable, 30 frames at a time.
Body cams are the only reason cops follow the law and even then they still often get caught committing crimes. The police code of silence is a criminal conspiracy at its very core.
There's a discussion because he's a superior in their department. Some places would require a different department to come do the investigation or someone higher up in the chain of command. Theirs a discussion because he's probably a good friend of both of them and I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to be more lenient with someone they know. If they let him go, that's a problem, but they didnt and didn't try to. They both seemed unhappy they were the ones doing it, and again idk anyone who wouldn't be, but they both did their jobs. If this was a different industry, no one would care they were more lenient, they would just say he works there makes sense.

It may be helpful for public safety, but it certainly isn't a deterrent.
@@nonmihiseddeo4181 It definitely is. There have been loads of studies on this. A few here:
In Mesa, Arizona, for example, use-of-force complaints decreased by 75% for officers using cameras in a pilot program.1 In Nampa, Idaho, they dropped by 24%.
In San Diego, from a 2015 report based on preliminary statistics showed that body cameras helped reduce “personal body” force by officers by 46.5%
In Rialto, California-after the police force had worn body cameras for a full year, citizen complaints against police declined by 60%. The number of incidents that resulted in the use of force by an officer, dropped by 88% after the use of body cameras. Officers who were not equipped with cameras were twice as likely to use force as officers who were.

I am sure that these police officers could lose their jobs as providing such 3rd party information to a defendant is not only unethical but illegal. @Joe Sudz No he lied. The description clearly states the Lt. pleaded guilty to drunk driving and had his license revoked for 7 months along with having to take an alcohol course and he no longer works for the department.
