All the bases in Meagher Valley. This is my favorite region both because of how easy it is to drive in and because it has Squelones Brewing Company. Do you agree or disagree with this list? If you don't agree, what is your counter list, and why is it different from mine?
Cascade Hills is my favorite. The container fort is amazing and the corner office is a really good stopgap, with the caveat being there are constant hordes so your base is under attack pretty regularly. The good thing though is that you can seal off all but one of the entry points with vehicles making sieges a cakewalk.
Started playing today and was in a little hatchback and really didn’t care if it drowned or not so I tried to jump it and discovered you can actually drive in it
That's good! I'm glad they're still valuable after all this time. If you have questions, make a new comment. It's hard to find responses to existing comments as a YT creator.
I love Whitney Field! The sustainability is questionable, but I happened to run into a survivor with the Recycling Skill, so he neutralised a majority of my material requirements!
2 Major issues I had with Camp and Whitney Field was the massive amount of zombies and hordes that lingered around. This was especially bad at the Camp as the main entry point always had at least 1-2 hordes sitting there. Police station I liked as it was off the road, didn't have much issue with lingering zombies, and the armory allowed for another press in the workshop. Though I may end up moving to Distillery to farm influence and prep to end my current community(builder so trying to complete it just for legacy card). For bedding, another system I use is relying on allied Enclaves. As you can get a few set up as a Bed and Breakfast and get +2 bedding and +1 Food. Can be a pain to setup but saves you on using outposts and can free up slots.
I think the Police Station is pretty good as a mid game base, but I would still go with Brewery or Whitney Field as a final base. The large concentration of zombies can work in your favor as they become a constant source of influence as you kill them.
@@NexusGaming857I agree … i’ve seen people say that it’s a waste to even have beds in your base as it doesn’t increase the loss of fatigue … it does however have a morale impact which can easily be dealt with

Squelones Brewing is my favorite after watching your vid on making MONEY!$$$$$. The camp was my favorite, and never really clicked with the ball field. You, Mr. Fox are really moving up! Look forward to every vid.
Thanks Joe, it's interesting that they made a 6-man base as powerful as it is. I originally planned to sort of transplant the base to the container fort since it has 6 small facilities, but the stills that you can personally build can't make craft beer which is something I didn't know until then.
Your videos have helped me big time. I just ran across this game and thought it looked worth while. You definitely help the odds of that. I have a 15 month old son, so I don't have much time. Thanks!!
I've been playing the game for awhile now, but I always had a bad judgement for which would be the best base. Luckily there are videos like this that honestly help out alot!
Only thing I hate about Squelones currently is the insane number of zombies lurking outside the doors now! Whitney field for me literally minutes before I went to move in was taken by those zombie guys & I raged! Overall my favorite order would be 1. Squelones: with the red talon facilities you can make the indoor look really cool & military style organized, nearly the middle of the map. Note: Since you can drive offroad through 95% of this map its not a big deal if you avoid the gas burning vehicles you can live anywhere & not be annoyed. 2. Police station: just like the aesthetic especially if you have a sheriff & find a police car! 3. Clarington house: if only the damn garage was a large slot (Undead labs stop wasting spaces) & the house had 2 more smalls 1 outside in the corner & 1 in the bathroom downstairs. 4. Mazzaraz Farm: perfect farm style home. I seem to encounter ferals here a bit to frequently though. 5. Whitney field: Whats the point in gates if zombies somehow can still hop them... 6. Camp Crystal Lake: just never found it interesting, to damn much wasted space that could be slots. 7. The Church: cause if i set foot in one my skin burns.
Awesome breakdown. I am highly disappointed in the Camp Klenqua. I was looking forward to set my community there but it just seems like huge waste of space. It could easily hold more facilities and don’t see it being better than the Brewing Company. I’m at the distillery now and I don’t see why I would move. Too much to offer and a good location
Revisiting this idea of Whitney Field having open walls and what not. That's actually kind of a good thing if your community is a bunch of BFGs because it just means their sight ranges are nice and clear.
Just finished the cascade hills vid about to watch this one cant wait for drucker county enjoy your insightful opinions and overall knowledge on the game keep up the amazing work dawg you deserve more subscribers
ya know, the farm kinda surprises me that the grain silo doesn't count as a watch tower its got a ladder going up to the top, seems taller than the oil storage and positoned on a good corner with great sight lines and on this, cant tell if it a balancing thing or an oversight
I just started playing the game and these base videos were perfect for me. At first your voice and inflection took getting used to, but after the first video ended I found myself missing you. Is that creepy? I think so. 😛 Thank you for making the videos.
I think Squelones Brewing is def the best base in the map I know a lot of people love the baseball field but to be busy and do different things like make things I think Squelones would keep you busy for awhile awesome video like always.
Really appreciated this video, broke it down in a way that was very easy to understand. Definitely feel like I’m choosing the best base for my play through after watching this!!
Off topic: Have you thought about a State of Decay series? I use to watch Zombie Kitty, Lu Caz some other youtubers do this. It was always a great watch. I cant imagine how much time it would take but just some ideas. Have a great weekend
I have thought about it. I might do it when there's basically nothing left to really look at which is actually not that far away. Once I get through skills, maybe some more Daybreak stuff, and maybe some concepts like beginner tips, I'll basically be out of relevant stuff to talk about in SoD2. At that point, I was thinking about talking about just SoD2 in general like the story and stuff like that. SoD2 isn't a live service, though, like Fortnite or Warframe which means there's going to come a point where the game has been mostly explored, and everything that remains is just scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Just started a nightmare mode save file in Meagher Valley, gonna take me a while to get to any of these bases at this rate haha, literally sneaking around the whole time, nothing more scarier than creeping around a house and seeing a horde pass by the window and standing completely still
Aye hold up, you didn't mention that the two small bunk houses in Camp Kelenqua provide +2 beds each no matter what you build inside. So you get a total of +4 beds and get 2 small indoor facilities to pick whatever you want in them. I know it's two years later but I just wanted to comment this as I feel like it should have boosted it on the list.
Great video man, definitely some good Info here. However I have to say Camp K is the best base in the map. It actually has 8 beds built into it. There's the bunkhouse that gives 4 and 2 other buildings that are occupied but also provide 2 beds each. Plus it's close to most of the hidden weapon caches. With the setup I have every resource is in the positive and I have 10 people in my community. I've done every map and so far Camp K in my opinion is the 2nd best in the game only losing to the container for in cascade
Having played through the Nightmare Zone quite a bit, I would say the best bases in the entire game are going to be Whitney Field and Squelones Brewing Company. The patch allowing for more leader buildings makes the 3 slot bases incredibly powerful, and Whitney Field is the most defensible base in the game.
Camp K is overaverage, but you can have that kind of setup in a lot of bases. Camp K has a terrible location which is constantly under attack by zombies for some reason, and it doesn't have the special features of Whitney Field's 3-large slot or Squelones' mass influence farming power to really consider Camp K a top tier base.
Been binge watching your vids. All good stuff and I agree completely with the brewing company. It's my favorite base in the game followed by the strip mall.
Police station is great for people doing fresh start nightmare runs because finding an ammo press is random, but if you go straight there you will have sustainable ammo from the start of the game
The waste of space is probably the most annoying thing in this game. There are so many areas in certain bases that could clearly be useful but are taken up by useless crap that you don't need. "Cabin Park Motel" in Drucker County is a perfect example. You can clear one seating area but not the one that has a bunch of useless table benches. There's also clearly an area right next to it that could've been a small plot but has a small amount of trash on the ground. If you can clear entire cabins and heavy trash plots, why wouldn't you be able to just pick up a few pieces of light trash? The devs need to stop wasting space for the next game. It's getting on my nerves. In the context of the apocalyptic setting of this world, it's just not realistic. You'd wanna use as much available space as possible. With that said, "Mohr and Mohr Distributing" in Cascade Hills is a base that's well designed from a space utilization standpoint. It's compact and there aren't really any large spaces that are wasted. The Container Fort is also another base that's well designed. In fact, I think the Container Fort is the best base in the entire game. Container Fort is right in the middle of a neighborhood, so not only do you have tons of safe space surrounding your base, but you have all the resource outposts you could ever need right there. There's power access right next door, restaurants for food, clinics for medicine and gas stations for fuel. This is the only base I have that's 100% self-sufficient, meaning I don't have to scavenge for any resources. Plus, it's incredibly easy to defend with only two access points and all your survivors are on the upper levels, shooting down.
....I don't think I've ever seen a video on RUclips without a single dislike. Good job man! I dug the video, though I would say that the camp is garbage because it's constantly being invaded. Zombie spawns seem to be a real issue there and I instantly regretted moving in there.
@@GitGudFox Ha, yeah, I'm sure that helps. I think that's one of the issues with a lot of these types of videos; they're not necessarily geared towards newbies, but they're still helpful in their own ways.
I usually go to Squelones when I’m in Meagher, but for Update 33 I decided to try Whitney. I didn’t worry about the material loss and had to use outposts to subsidize beds, but all in all, not a bad set up. I think I prefer Squelones just for placement and ability to use bases for something else.
I have a community that can literally last forever in meager valley because I have the plague cure drop which gives meds and either more meds, ammo, or fuel so that isn't an issue. The base I use is the baseball field and I have garden and farm to upkeep with my communities food plus I get bonus food for spending seeds. My issue was materials because like you said it was -5 to upkeep facilities but I made allies that give me +2 mats a day and then I set up an outpost which is plus one. I don't have person with computers which means no lvl 3 command center and I only have a signal antenna which means I have 4 outposts. I'm soon going to make all of my outposts material outposts so that the upkeep cost is dealt with. That's makes my community able to "last forever" because there will be essenshally no rutsack cost per day 👍
Yeah very late comment, but your videos are awesome, been watching since 2021, anyway, the brewety is definitely my favorite base due to the location, it also looks pretty aestheifally pleasing in my opinion
I have been using camp kelenqua every time that I have played. You can neutralize all supplies and sometimes have plus supplies, only downside is you might not be able to have your favorite facilities due to the limited slots.
This is my favorite "I'm playing for fun not meta" base also, and has been for as long as I've played basically, for just these reasons :) I still think 2 large slots is decent enough, and if you're careful about facility placement you really can get surplus on even a few base supplies. Also the place is spacious and beautiful, and that's hard to find! Of course my favorite meta base is the container fort.
@@timmercado7020 yea I tried out container fort, i liked it. The thing with that one for me it just seems like it’s cramped and lake kelenqua just has the homey feel to it
@@calebhaverberg8205 exactly my thought. The cramped, claustrophobic feel of the container fort took me a loooong time to get used too lol. I still consider the fort the most powerful base in the game, but for me, Camp Kalenqua is the most enjoyable long-term home.
Whitney Field with the builders sniper tower, traders trade building and a red talon bunk room is super good! And I can constantly lower my threat level and call a siege when I’m bored!
I really love the police station but when I moved in my morale went from empowered to cheerful and I finally figured it out apparently people dont like how the beds are prison cells so I had to make outdoor beds and then the problem was fixed I also think that the armoury is awesome
Good list! I've been saving for Whitney field but Instead I'll stay at Squelones brewery. Just wishing I could make an auto shop without sacrificing one of my large facilities
I'm here on my second playthrough. I'm working on the builder legacy. I did my first run at Providence ridge and stayed at the starter base doing the the sheriff legacy.
Have you thought about revisiting the rankings with Nightmare Mode now? Being in the center of the map is suicide in Nightmare. I think that the outlying bases are safer now. Loved watching your video though. :)
I have, but I'd need to live in each base once again for a while to be able to re-review them from the Nightmare Zone perspective. That will take some time.
Just getting back into the game and I remember only doing 2 playthrough on this map. I finished my 1st playthrough in the police station because of the free ammo maker and the 2nd playthrough I was running warlord so I went for mazzara farm because of the location.
been there. i ended up having like 10 cars outside to just sit. and they held all my storage sacks. but then when i moved finally it was a nightmare. i moved to the camp. now i have like 10 cars at the camp and im considering moving to whitney. i have plenty of resources. 5 a day is one single bag. it doesnt seem that big of a deal to me. plus cant you just get outposts to earn that?
My favourite base out of all State of Decay bases has to be Whitney Field. Using it on my first lethal difficulty run because of the amount of building slots, allowing me to get power, water and a huge threat reduction.
I’m holding up at the Rural Police Station. We are doing okay apart from a lot of zombie sieges occurring. Also, thanks for the video. I’m gonna relocate my community to the Brewing Company
Bro I literally love your videos so much you helped me finish legalcy goon but bad thing I am not gonna live in Meagher Valley I am thinking to live in cascade hills any guide for long gameplay like 8-9 survivors big bases
You should make a guide for the best bases in a nightmare zone play through. Only because I know some bases like the brewery have high threat levels on average
anyone know if all the scavenged/bountied outfits are unlocked across all saved communities (I havent tested it out to see for myself...) or if you have to re loot all the previously unlocked outfits once you "graduate" a community after finishing the legacy goal. Ive completed all the bounties and must say I was rather underwhelmed, most of the cool outfits were found out in the deadzone. The redundant bounty weapons were meh, @ GitGudFox Your weapon review was spot on, I love all your content especially the SOD2 Stuff. Keep up the great work!
i would rate strip male over the field because the built gym, urgent care (safes 1 slot) and kitchen as bonus same as the toilets. what i find really bad in the strip mal are the entrances. depending on your playstyle the watchtower on the field maybe is more useful for some players.
You can't farm unlimited influence in the Strip Mall. I have farmed 9999 influence in like 12 or 13 minutes with Whitney Field. It is literally undisputedly the best base in the game, only personal preference can cause people to prefer other bases because it is objectively the best from an unbiased power perspective. The video where I farm max influence in 12 minutes is somewhere on this channel if you want to hunt for it.
Idk I've been liking the rural police station on lethal because the seiges there are laughable. With a sniper tower and the built in defenses, nothing even makes it to the door. The driving distance does get a bit annoying though.
Most of the bases are similarly defensible with decent guns on your community. There are a few that can backfire on you though. It's mainly the indoor focused bases like the Corner Office and the Bridge Fort.
@@GitGudFox oh.. well it seems easier to defend. Maybe it's just because it's more isolated away from all the plague hearts and infestations that I can't keep up with lol. Nightmare wasn't so bad but lethal zone can get pretty rough at times.
I dont know if this is a recent change, but Whitney Field comes with the announcer box, which essentially allows you to spam hordes that are easily defended by the two bleachers, essentially giving you an influence farm that costs no materials.
Whitney Field = influence farm as long as you have armed survivor I used dinner bell and stay in a safe place for 240 influence although it doesn't have an ability to make the luxury stuff. the only thing it comsume is time.
They should have a huge city map and the best base is like a big basketball court and it has like covers beds five large slots like seven small slots and it should have a kitchen to I know kinda op but I think it’s a cool idea
I finally tried out Whitney Field. I didn't like the double watchtowers. Felt like some wasted space. I do like Squelones, but it feels like way too many hordes spawn around it. I have a soft spot for Kelenqua, since it was the base I finished my first map from as a warlord.
In Whitney Field, You get 240 influence with every success from announcer box zombie calls. That's 240 influence every 2 or 4 minutes in lethal mode. Don't know why but zombie attacks sometimes last 3 minutes and at other times only last 1 minute. I just push the A button every few minutes standing in the announcer box and let the money roll in while surfing the web on my phone and ending this run on sentence.
Providence Ridge is probably the best because of its extremely good mid game bases, but Meagher Valley isn't far behind, and it has other advantages. Meagher Valley is still the easiest map to drive around in which DOES make a difference on Lethal Zone where fuel cans cost 2 fuel to produce instead of 1 meaning you get 2 fuel cans out of 1 rucksack of fuel + half the map has been looted + existing loot areas have much more sparse amounts of loot. Meagher Valley's Whitney Field and Squelones are also still very competitive bases. Whitney Field has gotten even better with outpost upgrade allowing you to skip the staging area more easily.
Works like this. Command Center Level 1: 2 outposts. Command Center Level 2: 3 outposts. Command Center Level 3: 4 Outposts. That's your baseline. There's a mod that gives you +1 outposts. There's a rarer mod, the Signal Booster, that gives you +2. But you can go farther. There's a Red Talon agent whose 5th skill is I think hacking. It gives another +1 outpost. So you can have 7 outposts.
I'm on this map atm on my current playthrough. I love the Camp kelaqun base it's so cool. This map is okay looking but i find my self getting frustrated driving around. There's hardly any roads to drive on. So othen the shortest path is straight across the grass. As roads are kinder not to common it's always worth just going cross country. But your goner flip your car so much especially if you use a van. Everyone said it's the best map to start on and i kinder agree. As your goner want to leave it fairly soon.
So far I have played meagher valley. Providance ridge drucker county and abit of cascade hills. Haven't tried trumball valley so far I will. I liked providance ridge the most I think.
I was so disappointed that I can’t play this game on PC. I guess I could bring my spare console with me on the road. I might do that. I was watching your nightmare video and I was thinking that could be fun.
Git Gud Fox strange yesterday when I was at home it wouldn’t let me install. But now it’s letting me. Thanks for the response. I would have never tried to install it otherwise.
Now you can play it on either your Xbox or your PC! Your save files should transfer back and forth and be updated between them both if you're using the same Xbox/MSFT account since the save file is stored in cloud.
Git Gud Fox yes I actually had a save game on the fresh install. But I started a new game and I accidentally drew a hoard to my base and got my companion killed. I might start over tomorrow lol
You can even take it further. I've learned a better technique than this but still uses a similar setup. What you need is a pill press facility mod, you need a pharmacist (chemistry base skill), and you might need medicine to get your infirmary to level 3. 1) Install the pill press. 2) Build strong pain killers. You will get 6 strong pain killers for 1 medicine supply and 2 ethanol. They will sell for like 204 or 206 influence. 3) Use Sequelones Brewery to turn excess food into ethanol to supply your pill press. I think it is the strongest influence generator in the game that isn't like an exploit or something. The best part is that you use the same setup as the one I initially taught, just a change in priorities. If you need a pill press, call in medicine traders with the Trade Depot. They have a chance of selling one. Just keep calling them in until you get it.
@@GitGudFox I didn't even know the pill press was a thing, but holy fuck I'm gonna do this and have my survivors curb stomp a 7th dimensional eldritch god in the teeth
I have yet to try the Police station base and the church on the hill, All the others I’ve tried and The brewery was definitely my favourite. I can’t wait until the new map gets released I’m hoping the bases are unique to these ones.
I wouldn't say Whitney Field is more customizable than the Strip Mall, because unlike the Strip Mall it has no infirmary built in. So one of those five small facilities will have to be an infirmary, leaving you with only four facilities you can really upgrade the way you want.
The strip mall has only 1 outdoor small slot which similarly means it'll be used for either a guard tower or a garden, and the baseball field has 2 guard towers pre-built.
No, but it doesn't have to be. The list of valuable small facilities is so tight that they're pre-determined. The 1 outdoor small facility is just automatically going to default into either a garden or a watchtower unless you have some kind of very specific ideal in mind. You're going to build an infirmary, a workshop, and immediately after that you're building a garden and a watch tower. There aren't any other small facilities that are going to compete for those 4 slots, and when only 1 slot is outdoor, the scarcity of outdoor slots means you're either making a large slot farm or a small slot garden, or a watch tower.
I love the police station, probably my favorite small base on the entire game. I don't think it's that remote, the roads are pretty much clear and it takes no time to zip to whatever location you want, travel times not much more than the farm or the distillery - but it also has 4 parking spots! The other 5 man bases only have 2! It's also right off the road, so pulling in and out quickly, dropping stuff off can be done extremely fast. I like to keep a couple vans as extra ruck sack storage parked out front too so this base works perfectly. The built in armory is also super handy for making 9mm and .45 so I can keep an ammo press for 5.56 and 7.62 at my workshop. I had a sniper tower in the back, as part of my builder leader's legacy goals and it turns this place into a fortress. I went to the ball field after the police station and HATED IT - hard to defend, terrible location and depressing setup... so I went back to the police station. I've since moved to the distillery, and it's ok but even it lacks the 4 parking spots and the easy on/off the highway the police station offered. So overall: Police Station #1, Distillery #2, Ball field #3 (and only because of its size - because I actually hated it, worst large base in the game).
@@GitGudFox As far as the starter bases go, Clarington House is unremarkable. The Church is utterly forgettable and worth skipping, not comparable to the Bridge Fort as far as 500 xp bases go. The Farm and the Campground are meh. Farm has good location, for movement, but feels vulnerable, both are lacking in parking spaces. So my breakdown would be: 1. Police Station 2. Distillery 3. Ball field (with strong reservations) 4. Farm/Campground (tie) 5. Clarington House 6. Church (do to its relative uselessness)
The problem with the police station is that I feel you get handicapped like if you were able to add the daybreaker workstation, that would make this base super awesome but you can't plus location wise is not that great compare to the other bases.
I played this game through game pass I had a horrible experience in camp kelenqua there was a million zombies everywhere I cleared all lot of infestations and stealth killing zombies is what I typically do at night since missions are dangerous but the location sucked being in the woods and so many entrances , squelones brewery is the best too bad I don’t have the game anymore
Personally I prefer the camp as with the certain outposts and mods and rooms you can make it into a good 8 man base with enough food and little recourse loss, even on nightmare this is possible
You mean those pavilion-like wooden structures? I feel like they were always there, so if they're not there now, that means they were removed because I am pretty sure they were in the game originally.
@@GitGudFox yes. Those wooden pavilion things [my wife made me call then lattice!] Ive looted those beehives in every play-through and only just today notice those structures. I'm guessing they probably removed them on one of their updates.
I've played this game for 2-3 years now, and let me tell you, squelones brewing company is the best, not only in morale and space, by the stills, and the built in water cather, and it has the most car spaces, it's placement, and it gives you the chemical knowledge so it's perfect, you're not gonna drive all across the map just for one or two story missions so this is the best choice, please choose it, plus you can get it kind of early game, because it's only 6 people, and a lot less influence than whitney field
All the bases in Meagher Valley. This is my favorite region both because of how easy it is to drive in and because it has Squelones Brewing Company. Do you agree or disagree with this list? If you don't agree, what is your counter list, and why is it different from mine?

You're definitely my go to channel for advice on this game. Love this game and have learned so much from watching your videos! And you're a trip too!
I know this is 3 years old, but with the newer system of upgrading certain outposts, relying on bed outpost seems... wasteful.

I've been playing the game for awhile now, but I always had a bad judgement for which would be the best base. Luckily there are videos like this that honestly help out alot!
5:24 I thought shaggy just became the commentator for a second
You are right
Hahahah YOINKS
Only thing I hate about Squelones currently is the insane number of zombies lurking outside the doors now!
Whitney field for me literally minutes before I went to move in was taken by those zombie guys & I raged!
Overall my favorite order would be
One of my pals has the same issue with churches.
@@Degiac22 The Container Fort is the only real competition to the Brewery unless you need 3 large slots.
Revisiting this idea of Whitney Field having open walls and what not. That's actually kind of a good thing if your community is a bunch of BFGs because it just means their sight ranges are nice and clear.
@@GitGudFox i dont like churches too but in sod is something else
Just finished the cascade hills vid about to watch this one cant wait for drucker county enjoy your insightful opinions and overall knowledge on the game keep up the amazing work dawg you deserve more subscribers
In time, I am a fairly patient man. RUclips is something of a marathon. I'm mainly glad that the content is worthwhile.
I just love the way you beat the game logically. Its as if you have written the code and hence easily able to find a work around 👍
It's all about making observations, guesses, and testing them to see if you're right.
Ive been playing sod2 for a while but i love watching your videos
It's an honor to create for you!
What version was this one? Cuz right now you can't walk 10 ft without running into an horde... Or two
This was all done before Nightmare Zone was created.
ya know, the farm kinda surprises me that the grain silo doesn't count as a watch tower
its got a ladder going up to the top, seems taller than the oil storage and positoned on a good corner with great sight lines
and on this, cant tell if it a balancing thing or an oversight
I just started playing the game and these base videos were perfect for me. At first your voice and inflection took getting used to, but after the first video ended I found myself missing you. Is that creepy? I think so. 😛 Thank you for making the videos.
I try to speak with enough diction for most people to follow along.
@@GitGudFox And I thank you for it.
Missing you! Since you've been gone away! I can lie to myself!!
I think Squelones Brewing is def the best base in the map I know a lot of people love the baseball field but to be busy and do different things like make things I think Squelones would keep you busy for awhile awesome video like always.
I am currently wondering if it's the best base in the game or at least tied for best since I will eventually do a best bases overall video.
Really appreciated this video, broke it down in a way that was very easy to understand. Definitely feel like I’m choosing the best base for my play through after watching this!!
I wanted to make a small community on nightmare and moved into the country church.. probably the worst decision of my life lmao
I use it a lot in my nightmare zone series.
Loving the brewery. Was debating on moving to whitney buy decided against it since I prefer the central location more.
Police station is great for people doing fresh start nightmare runs because finding an ammo press is random, but if you go straight there you will have sustainable ammo from the start of the game
Nightmare Zone wasn't a thing during this review. I will eventually do a separate review for NZ bases.
Container Fort is one of the 2 best bases in the game. I know they do it for balancing purposes. Perhaps they should give bases a smaller footprint.
....I don't think I've ever seen a video on RUclips without a single dislike. Good job man! I dug the video, though I would say that the camp is garbage because it's constantly being invaded. Zombie spawns seem to be a real issue there and I instantly regretted moving in there.
All my community members have BF50Gs, so I sometimes forget that zombies attack.
@@GitGudFox Ha, yeah, I'm sure that helps. I think that's one of the issues with a lot of these types of videos; they're not necessarily geared towards newbies, but they're still helpful in their own ways.
I love meagher valley. The road mangler is so good here with the nice terrain.
Yes, it's a great change of pace from doing the Drucker County bases.
I just found your channel. I love the SOD and Subnautica content, as well as the narrative. Keep it up bro!
I'm glad I have Subnautica a try. Welcome aboard!
That's makes my community able to "last forever" because there will be essenshally no rutsack cost per day 👍
Self sustaining bases are also my preferred way to build.
This is my favorite "I'm playing for fun not meta" base also, and has been for as long as I've played basically, for just these reasons :)
I still think 2 large slots is decent enough, and if you're careful about facility placement you really can get surplus on even a few base supplies.
You can upgrade the prison beds to remove the moral penalty.
@@GitGudFox you can well that's good to know thx 👍
Good list! I've been saving for Whitney field but Instead I'll stay at Squelones brewery. Just wishing I could make an auto shop without sacrificing one of my large facilities
They're about equal in the end. Squelones and Whitney both have a lot of value.
Great vid. Cant wait to see what you come up with next.
If I can get my hands on some more skill retraining manuals, I plan to do more videos about skills and skill combos.
@@GitGudFox what manuals are you looking for? I have extra "new" one's that change cardio, striking, shooting etc etc
Just getting back into the game and I remember only doing 2 playthrough on this map. I finished my 1st playthrough in the police station because of the free ammo maker and the 2nd playthrough I was running warlord so I went for mazzara farm because of the location.
It served as my main base in the Meagher Valley Nightmare Zone.
I was today years old when I found out you could drive through the river 😩
Yep, you can drive through all the water including the lakes.
I've been living in the starter house since the start of my campaign and I have 9 survivors cramped in 🤣🤣, I really need to move to that brewery
been there. i ended up having like 10 cars outside to just sit. and they held all my storage sacks. but then when i moved finally it was a nightmare. i moved to the camp. now i have like 10 cars at the camp and im considering moving to whitney. i have plenty of resources. 5 a day is one single bag. it doesnt seem that big of a deal to me. plus cant you just get outposts to earn that?
Your videos are fantastic man. Keep it up.
Thanks, I'm working on one right now.
The speaker in the ball field farms influence like not other
My favourite base out of all State of Decay bases has to be Whitney Field.
I just started lethal mode and I’m playing on meager so this was helpful I’m thinking about the brewing place or the camp
I wished some of the bases had facilities on the roof like Wallys bar and grill, the rural police station by there is room on the roof
There are only a few like that as you say. Most of the time, they are watchtowers.
Git Gud Fox yeah i know but I guess that's how they try and get you to move into a better base
Bro I literally love your videos so much you helped me finish legalcy goon but bad thing I am not gonna live in Meagher Valley I am thinking to live in cascade hills any guide for long gameplay like 8-9 survivors big bases
Container Fort, it's the most convenient base in the game.
You should make a guide for the best bases in a nightmare zone play through. Only because I know some bases like the brewery have high threat levels on average
I should. I will need to live in each base for a little while to test them out.
i just found this channel and i subbed instantly i just love listening to you explaining things, this channel is so underrated
Thanks! I've been at it for a little bit.
The ballfield has the absolute best layout, despite it being in a not so ideal location
anyone know if all the scavenged/bountied outfits are unlocked across all saved communities (I havent tested it out to see for myself...) or if you have to re loot all the previously unlocked outfits once you "graduate" a community after finishing the legacy goal.
Yeah, they're unlocked account bound.
@@GitGudFox thanks, appreciate it.
what people dont know about container fort is its ability to wipe zombies from far away. you dont need sniper tower at all
Camp mcaw has a hidden 2 beds in another facility fyi
There's usually a thing or 2 I gloss over.
this may be a recent change, But Camp Kalenqua has i think 8 beds when you first get it. the small buildings have beds.
i would rate strip male over the field because the built gym, urgent care (safes 1 slot) and kitchen as bonus same as the toilets. what i find really bad in the strip mal are the entrances. depending on your playstyle the watchtower on the field maybe is more useful for some players.
My team wants me to get a bigger base and I’m starting out and I have enough influence for it! :) TYSM!
Bigger base is always exciting!
I dont know if this is a recent change, but Whitney Field comes with the announcer box, which essentially allows you to spam hordes that are easily defended by the two bleachers, essentially giving you an influence farm that costs no materials.
Whitney Field = influence farm as long as you have armed survivor
I used dinner bell and stay in a safe place for 240 influence although it doesn't have an ability to make the luxury stuff. the only thing it comsume is time.
wow i’m so lucky i moved into the brewery. i knew nothing about this game and started today. and went to the brewery.
Good intuition!
Are you gonna do the new map bases? Probably dumb question.
Your videos are awesome and so helpful so thank you very much for videos
I'll be making one for Providence Ridge eventually.
Can't wait for the Providence Ridge one
I live in Rhode Island and Providence just so happens to be the name of our states capital.
They should have a huge city map and the best base is like a big basketball court and it has like covers beds five large slots like seven small slots and it should have a kitchen to I know kinda op but I think it’s a cool idea
I’d assume that you already know, but if you don’t, you can flip a car upright with the left stick. You don’t have to hit the “stuck” option.
That wasn't a thing during the time of this videos' recording. When the vehicle got flipped, it just stayed flipped until you unstucked it
I finally tried out Whitney Field. I didn't like the double watchtowers. Felt like some wasted space. I do like Squelones, but it feels like way too many hordes spawn around it. I have a soft spot for Kelenqua, since it was the base I finished my first map from as a warlord.
You ever notice when you highlight the Brewery to see its stats it says it only has 1 large facilities slot but it has 2....just saying it weird
I guess it's because you can remove the cage cooperage.
Keep up the Great work 👍
It was easier when I was just covering the bases. I had a pipeline of videos at the ready!
Great editing bro!
I'm glad all the practice is paying off. I didn't have the first clue how to edit when I first started.
Is Meagher Valley still the easiest region to start in if playing on Lethal?
Man.. I’ve been starting in drunker county and I didn’t realize it was the hardest map. I’m hoping the next maps feel like a breeze, lol.
How did you have 6 outpost. I upgraded the facility and it allowed me only 4 bases and apart from it one facility mod for +1 outpost.
I can’t move into there, a group of survivors are already there and I cant move in.
You can run them off. If you can't it means eventually they will move on thier own so do quests for them
My favorite is the brewery but it's a pain to defend my crew keeps getting killed when the explosive zombies arrive
Keep in mind that you don't have to defend your bases. You can just leave. Combat stops when you're too far away.
That voice crack at 5:25 tho
That's just me raising the pitch of my voice. I can go a little higher than that before cracking.
@@GitGudFox thanks for the reply. Love the videos i subscribed. If you havent already i think you should do the best/worst cars to have. (Storage/gas)
super helpful, great video man.
Maybe I will exit to trumball after this playhrough with my team.
I hate that I started my SoD2 Experience at Cascade Hills on a Builder Legacy, I should have chosen this one as start. :3
You can change maps whenever you like.
@@GitGudFox neh I'll just push through just need to get that sweet sweet Builder Legacy Card :)
I was so disappointed that I can’t play this game on PC. I guess I could bring my spare console with me on the road. I might do that. I was watching your nightmare video and I was thinking that could be fun.
You can play this on PC.
Git Gud Fox I tried to get it on the Xbox store but it wouldn’t let me use my laptop.
I might start over tomorrow lol
who woulda thought making craft beer could make my group basically immortal
Oh and it's the whole batch that sells for 200, not each painkiller individually. It's still insanely good for just 1 med and 2 ethanol.
I have yet to try the Police station base and the church on the hill, All the others I’ve tried and The brewery was definitely my favourite. I can’t wait until the new map gets released I’m hoping the bases are unique to these ones.
I am hoping the the new map is something of a hard mode map.
@@GitGudFox But are you implying that watchtowers are as essential as an infirmary?
No, but it doesn't have to be. The list of valuable small facilities is so tight that they're pre-determined. The 1 outdoor small facility is just automatically going to default into either a garden or a watchtower unless you have some kind of very specific ideal in mind.
You're going to build an infirmary, a workshop, and immediately after that you're building a garden and a watch tower. There aren't any other small facilities that are going to compete for those 4 slots, and when only 1 slot is outdoor, the scarcity of outdoor slots means you're either making a large slot farm or a small slot garden, or a watch tower.
I like the brewery ! But need Witney 4 the 3rd slot !
I often don't use all 3 slots in bases. My favorite base is probably the container fort.
What about the other bases? The Church, the Clarington House and the others?
@@GitGudFox As far as the starter bases go, Clarington House is unremarkable. The Church is utterly forgettable and worth skipping, not comparable to the Bridge Fort as far as 500 xp bases go. The Farm and the Campground are meh. Farm has good location, for movement, but feels vulnerable, both are lacking in parking spaces.
So my breakdown would be:
1. Police Station
2. Distillery
3. Ball field (with strong reservations)
4. Farm/Campground (tie)
5. Clarington House
6. Church (do to its relative uselessness)
The problem with the police station is that I feel you get handicapped like if you were able to add the daybreaker workstation, that would make this base super awesome but you can't plus location wise is not that great compare to the other bases.
I went from police station to here and agree I like the police station more
So my plan is getting the builder and trader legacy to get his two bounties just to get the 100 days achieve, any recomendation?
That sounds like a perfectly good plan as it is.
The constant zombies can be a good thing since killing them gets you a lot of influence especially on Nightmare Zone where all the gains are doubled.
This video want made when lethal was out. The church is pretty sweet with it’s built in morale bonuses of plus 6
But you could just get 1 more character and move into a large base. The church is just not a significant upgrade.

Personally I prefer the camp as with the certain outposts and mods and rooms you can make it into a good 8 man base with enough food and little recourse loss, even on nightmare this is possible
ive played this state of decay 2 for like a year and a half and have barely played meagher valley, mainly drucker county
[1:35] When did the bee keeper's house get [or lose] the cover over the bee hives? I have NEVER seen that until now!
Especially because this video is pretty old. It's like the first year SOD came out.
Hey Fox quick question. I've noticed that sometimes when crafting stuff the cost numbers are green. Any idea why that is?
Some kind of effect is causing a discount like having a pathology expert reducing the cost to create bulk plague cures.
Awesome.
