She was almost Van Halen's lead singer. What could have been. Love Patty.
Probably a win for the public that she wasn't ;)
And then married John McEnroe
@@user-fn4um6iy4oYou’re crazy, that would have rocked.
@@Cagliostro81ugh what? None of their lyrics would have made sense for a female singer.
Patty has an amazing voice. I'd recommended "sometimes love just ain't enough" as it truly showcases her vocals
Just adding that song is a duet with Don Henley 🙂
@@kenransom560 Exactly! Great voices! Both! And together, just🔥
Oh my gosh, the summer of 1984 would have this video on MTV every single hour. Great song and video. Patty Smyth has an amazing voice and yes, she is so beautiful. 'Goodbye To You' is my favorite, but this is a close second...🙂
I just commented on Good-bye to you was my favorite song also! She was hot in that video!
And Dan Hartman - I can Dream about you. 84 is one of the most 80s years. IMO
I was just thinking how it dominated the radio in the summer of '84.
Ohhh the summer of 1984!! Just such a great time!
Can't go wrong with any Scandal songs, or Patty Smyth solo stuff. "Goodbye to You" "Loves Got A Line On You" "Hands Tied" etc... even her new stuff from 2021 is great ""Build a Fire"
I still believe her duet with Don Henley is her best song. When the two if them sing SOMETIMES LOVE JUST AIN'T ENOUGH they bring magic and sadness and truth to the words. Enjoy.
Brad & Lex, you’ll also love “Goodbye To You” with Scandal!! Also Patty Smyth’s solo hits "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" (with Don Henley)” and “No Mistakes”!!
"Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" - her best song by far and it's a duet with Don Henley as a bonus.
She has an incredible voice. Before Van Halen had Sammy Hagar replace David Lee Roth, they had asked her to be their lead singer. She does a song with Don Henley called Sometimes Love just ain't enough. Great song
I never knew that Van Halen offered her the lead singer role. Now I'm trying to replay the songs of 5150 and OU812 in my head with her voice instead of Sammy Hagar.
@@dicknijenhuis9894 they also offered it to Daryl Hall too. I couldn't imagine them without Sammy. He wasn't there 1st choice
@@dicknijenhuis9894 Sammy wrote the lyrics so wouldnt have been the same songs.
Big 80s song. Huge for its time. Scandal had another hit with goodbye to you.
Thank you -- Finally someone gave Scandal a listen -- believe me or not Beat of a Heart is even better --- and Goodbye to You is total 80s fun
Nope, can't take it seriously. All I think of if I ever hear that song is Beavis going "Goodbye to poooooo!"
@@mage1439 Lol I must have missed that --- great now its stuck in my head and I never heard him sing that --- Haaaa
@@mage1439 I thought Beavis said goodbye to GLUE lol. The fact we all remember that is bad lol. Their best line was when they were watching " wanted dead or alive"- Beavis said " yeah he's a cowboy, riding across the great WUSS plains" LOL
@@dawnpatrol700 ruclips.net/video/AbaVVO4GEwY/видео.html
I heard that song and, "bang bang" I think you're wrong.
Catchy AF song from the 80s! Bang Bang
Check out their first hit "Goodbye To You" 👍
PATTY!!! "Goodbye To You" is a really good one!
Back when this song came out, if someone yelled "Shootin' at the walls of heartache", in a crowd multiple people would reply "Bang Bang, I am the Warrior". That lasted for maybe 6 months, but I was at a festival last year and someone yelled it, and sure enough, at least 3 people replied.
She always reminded me of someone between Pat Benatar and Heart! Great voice and great reaction y'all!
Takes me right back to being a teenager in the 80's. Great times! 😃
Patty & Don Henley - Sometimes love isn't enough
Still a great song from the early 80's, nearly 40 years old. Impossible not to sing along with the hook.
Please try "Middle of The Road" by the Pretenders. It too has a great musical hook and beat that really rocks... one of their all time best.
Great 80s song. Her voice is powerful and clear.
At one time both Patty Smyth
and Steve Perry from Journey named each other as their favorite singer!
First concert I ever went to was Scandal w/ Patty Smyth opening for The Go-Go's back when this song was popular. So many people there with colored hairspray in their hair, parachute pants, open sided sleeveless shirts, etc. Good times.
She blew away the Go-Go's that tour. It was glorious.
@@toddstevens13 to be honest, it was my first concert so I was taking the whole 'concert' thing in... watching the girls, etc. as much as watching the bands :)
@@shanehebert396 Well you picked a Massive one for your first, glad you enjoyed it.
This song brings me back to the '84 Olympics. That was a great summer when America was still great!
Patty Smythe. What a voice:) Jammed to this as a seventeen year old soldier.
Love Patty and Scandal. "Good bye to you" should be next.
Love her voice! There are videos of her on David Letterman's show singing Led Zeppelin songs, and she does a great job!
After David Lee Roth left Van Halen it is rumored that Eddie Van Halen asked Patty to join Van Halen. She refused.
This song reminds me of 1984, the summer after the first year of college. Three friends and I took a 5 hour each way road trip in a VW bug to Detroit to see Dio. This song kept playing on the radio. Great days; no ac, little money, no worries, no stress, no problems. Just rock-n-roll.
She was so cute and feisty, i just love Patty Smyth ! Her album/CD that came out in the early 90s is one of my all time faves !
One of the tastiest lead guitar breaks of the 80s.
Also known as Mrs. John McEnroe. Great, powerful voice. Also try "Goodbye to You"
Always trips me out that she's married to McEnroe!
80s personified ! Every kid who ever went to a roller way back then wouldn’t not have solo skated to this !!! Memories
This reminds me of going to my Mother's on the weekends and sitting on her living room floor and watching MTV. The 80's were a great decade.
Another similarly formatted group to check out at about the same time is Quarterflash….”Find Another Fool To Love You” is a rockin’ tune by them!
One of their best. Great guitar and saxophone.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp
I watched their performance of that song live on Fridays (remember that show?) right before I posted that comment.
I remember watching it when it originally aired but I didn’t remember what a kick ass performance it was….they were fantastic!
Don't forget 'Harden My Heart.' Great band and song.
@@kdm71291 Yes. I saw it. Great performance. They killed it. Their first two albums are the best. By the way, i,m from the Netherlands.
Still crushing on Patty
I attended her concert about 4years ago (I forgot the date. I’m old lol). Patty was amazing! Her voice is still powerful and strong. And she was super sweet onstage too. 😊
I believe Eddie Van Halen considered her for lead when Roth left
Great 80's song. never got sick of this song
This song brings back memories. With you guys living in Clearwater, you might like this story. This song was on the charts the year Osceola High School (Seminole, FL) opened. The school's sport team name is the Warrior. One of our deans called the radio station and requested this song, on the first day of school. Again great memories.
Great band!!! I remember crusing downtown with this song playing loud in the Summer of 1984. Love it!
Patty smyth...😍
This song was massive on release.
I got this 45 record for my 10th birthday at my Halloween birthday party..lol
Eddie Van Halen asked Patty to front Van Halen when David Lee Roth left.
She declined because she was starting a family.
It would have been epic, she's got pipes.
Red hot track by a massively underrated artist
Every time I hear the chorus of this song, I picture it (as it would sound like) being sung by Elmer Fudd. "Cuz I am da waweeoah!"
I love this song and music video. I watched this video alot in the 80's. I was a teen of the 80's.
The album this song comes from is such a slowburn classic. Patty Smyth's voice is so beautiful and mesmerizing.
She's been married to tennis legend John McEnroe for 25 years #Love40
Patty Smyth is one of the 80s queens of hard rock. In an interview, she said that she didn't like the video for The Warrior, due to the face paint she had to wear. Even more, she was contacted by Eddie Van Halen to be a replacement for David Lee Roth, when he left Van Halen in 1985. Amazing woman and performer. One of my favorite songs from my decade.😁
Hands Tied is my fave..it is an underrated tune from them. Love Patty's voice.
Eddie Van Halen once considered Patty Smyth to be David Lee Roth’s replacement in Van Halen.
I love this song it's on my playlist. Hey guys I just learned that Olivia Newton John has passed away from breast cancer. Could you please do something by her like 'Hopelessly Devoted' or 'You're The One That I Want' From the movie Grease.
This song is STILL a huge radio play! It's got such a great hook! You just have to tap fingers or a foot. She did some great music with SCANDEL. You should check out "Beat of A Heart" of "Another Bad Love". Great listens! On a side-note, when you get back to some classic country, TOM T. HALL- Shoe Shine Man. It's got a boogie-woogie groove I think you'd both enjoy!
As a former New Yorker, Patty Smyth was the queen of vocals during this era.
This was her breakout single as a solo artist after she left her group, Scandal. (I misstated. another commented accurately stated this was off Scandal's last and most successful album after which Smyth soon left the band)
This one was still with Scandal, her first solo album came out in 87.
@@franko6677 you're right. this was off of scandal's second album in '84, after which she left soon after. Never Enough came out in '87.
Good bye to you, Loves got a line on you, beat of a heart, and Sometimes love just ain`t enough, are all good as well.
She also did the backup vocals for John Waite song Change
The 80’s was a great decade for female fronted bands at every level of success.
Loved this song from the first time I heard it......but it had been a long while since I'd listened to it until it popped up in the suggestion list a few weeks ago.
Being honest,I got a bit teary as I was 16 again, full of life and vigour and anticipation for a few minutes....
Also had forgotten how great Pattys' voice is and how hot she was.....
Boy.......the 80's were great.
Ever since I was a kid in the mid-80s when this song came out, I still can't help but pump my fist in the air of how awesome this song is!
Scandal was a fun pop-rock, pop-punk band, new wave, power-pop band during the '80s. They broke up too soon , internal conflict after only 2 or 3 albums. See videos like "Goodbye To You", "Hands Tied", "Love's Got a Line on You", and others. Patty Smyth is the better looking and younger one lol (not to be confused with punk rock Patti Smith, decent looking).
Smyth is gorgeous and married to John McEnroe (huge tennis player/legend) and has children.
She has a great voice and was primed to replace David Lee Roth as singer for Van Halen, but turned it down. Better voice than Roth, her voice was nice and strong.
She went on a solo career during the late '80s and '90s as well. Mostly soft rock and pop rock. See videos like "Sometimes Love Just Aint Enough" with Don Henley (The Eagles), "No Mistakes", "Never Enough", "Downtown Train",
1980s female rockers kicked-ass!, Patty Smyth, Alana Myals, Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Lauren Brannigan,And of course Pat Benetar! 80s female rock kicks-ass!
Don,t forget the Wilson Sisters.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp OH, my dear lord you're right! Anne and Nancy Wilson from Heart! I am so sorry!, what a brain fart!
@@ssRocker-nn3tp And might I also add if you were born in 1963 than I have to tell you how much I envy you, for you got to spend the best decade of your life in the 1980s (ages 17-27) as for me, I was born in 1979 and knew of the 1980s! But I didn't get to experience the best decade in history the way that you had. But I made it a point to know everything that I can about the 1980s, so ask me anything pop-culture about the 1980s and chances are I will know the answer!
Go-Go's could rock when they wanted to. Hazy Shade of the Winter rocks! 🎸 🤘
@@strigoi1313 The 70s was the best decade for Classic Rock. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest, Foreigner, Styx, Journey, Rainbow and lots more. All great bands. A lot of these 70s bands, changed their style to a more radio friendly format. In the 80s. To sell more records. Especially aimed on the USA market. It became more commercial. But i like both decades. The 80s also had some real great bands. Triumph, Dokken, Queensryche, Dio, Metallica, Megadeth, Toto, Survivor, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and lots more. So, i do like both decades. I also like some bands from the early 90s. Alice In chains and Soundgarden. Are one of the best. With lots of 70s influences. What are your favorite bands from the 80s?
I remember Patty was on Letterrnan and she performed with Paul/house band. They did Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" and it was off the hook. Patty killed it.
Pure 80s magic. ♥️
Patty Smyth is #5 on my all time favorite female vocalist. She has a great range and sound
My favorite song of all time. NEVER get tired of hearing it. Thanks guys.
They put so much into this video... it was a definite different era. Thank you both so much for a great listen. I love this one.
I look forward to seeing you two! I found you a couple months ago and I'm hooked. Love this video! Keep them coming!
When this video came out, we thought it was a bit "weird" to say the least. You have to remember this was first generation MTV videos were still funky trying to be "art". But between the song and Patty's voice (very underrated) more than made up for it.
The 80's was the most creative time for music and for women.
Eddie actually wanted her to join Van Halen after David Lee Roth left
This is a great song. It's very catchy.
1984 was just too much fun, forever grateful.
This song was a banger in '84!
This song was all over the radio & MTV 🤟 Van Halen once offered her their lead singer job. 🤯
I heard this song on a Panama radio station today. Great 80s memories👏🏻
It means even if she gets hurt in love she will still survive and be victorious because she is a warrior. It's symbolic.
Love the Poison shirt! And congratulations to you both on the baby news! 🎉
Goodbye to You is a great Patty Smyth/Scandal song that always makes me want to get up and dance.
Scandal had two solid hits, The Warrior and Goodbye to You. They were poised to break out big but Patti Smyth got pregnant and decided to focus on being a mom.
Loved this song. 1984, I remember you well.
The genius behind this song belongs to the unique Holly Knight. This exceptional songwriter marked the 80s in a way that only the likes of Desmond Child, Diane Warren, Jim Steinman and Mutt Lange have managed to do. Her hits range from Heart (''Never''), John Waite (''Change''), Tina Turner (''The Best'', ''Better Be Good To Me''), Cheap Trick (''Space '') to the Pretenders (''I'll Stand By You'') and Pat benatar (''Love Is a Battlefield'' and ''Invincible''). She also wrote Animotion's ''Obsession'', another 80s anthem and worked with Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi, Kiss and Lita Ford. Do a search on her and her songs, especially for Elvira, Mistress of the dark: you're going to have fun. And her name... C'mon: Holly Knight. Just that in itself...
You forgot to mention that Nick Gilder was the co-writer on this song. His genius is also behind this song. He wrote "Hot Child In The City" and "Roxy Roller" as well.
@@BobSoltis1 Amen to that. Still, I think she had a bigger influence on the songs she co-wrote because they all have a je-ne-sais-quoi that sound like her from song to song. Her style is more recognizable than her co-authors, i find. Desmond Child also co-wrote a lot of songs but always, his style prevails. The number of Holly Knight songs I've discovered on the radio without knowing it was her is mind-blowing. Each time, I told myself that it “sounded” like her. Sure enough, I would buy the disc or the cassette. I looked in the sleeves and lo and behold: Holly Knight's name was in there. It has to count for something...
@@magicmike7198 - I in no way to meant to diminish Holly Knight. I was just pointing out that there was a lot of Nick Gilder in that song as well.
@@BobSoltis1 Now you got me curious on Nick Gilder! Gonna do some research on the songs he wrote. If i love ''The Warrior'', i should probably like his stuff. Thanks for that :)
Patty has a fantastic voice, powerful. She was tough as hell back in the day, like a little stick of TNT.
I have such wonderful memories of this song.
Covered this in the 80's. Cuz.......we had an opera singer gal. But she liked U2, Prince, Brian Adams, too.
One of my faves from Patty Smyth & Scandal - great stuff
Patty Smyth was a great singer!
Patti Smith is married to tennis professional John McEnroe. She has six children and a net worth of $100 million. We all loved her voice when she was singing for scandal. Basically she sang pop rock
Smyth, Patti Smith was married to Fred Sonic Smith of MC5
This is a banger, I would say- goodbye to you is even better…
The 80's was the summit of my life. 55yo and STILL blasting this beat, pissing of my kids.
If you guys had a sitcom i'd definitely watch.
The walls of heart-ache is a barrier to heart-to-heart. Only a warrior can attack and destroy the walls to achieve heart-to-heart. She is that warrior attacking the barriers preventing an intimate relationship. Whenever he puts up his guard against her (because of past experiences perhaps), she brings it down again, so they both can enjoy a trusting intimacy without pain. She is fighting for their love, not him.
Fun Fact: Patty has been happily married to tennis superstar John McEnroe for the last 25 years!!
Another hit they had was called Goodbye to You.
I think it’s just an observation that love can often be a battle so you have to be a warrior.
Another video vixen from the '80s that I crushed on as a young teenage boy!!
SCANDAL:
"Love's Got A Line On You"
Try “Goodbye to You” another Patty Smyth demonstration of how to sing like a star.
Guys- Try Goodbye to you by Scandal.
Believe it or not (it is true and you can look it up) Eddie Van Halen wanted Patti to take over as singer for Van Halen when David Lee Roth left the band. She turned him down and they got Sammy Haggar instead.
True, I remember that! Also, it's not that unbelievable. She has a much better voice than David Lee Roth. lol
That whole album is good Hands tied is another good one ... it has some real good deep tracks too
