J/Amber, their "Goodbye To You" is outstanding!!! ALSO, solo Patty Smyth "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" (with Don Henley) is great!! Keith Mack - guitar.
Love Goodbye to You...
Sometimes love ain't enough is awesome. She is so good.
Both are great songs!
Wait. There’s a Patti Smyth and a Patty Smith, right? And she married tennis legend, John McEnroe, yes?
Came here to say exactly that ;)
The joy showing on Amber’s face during this song brightened my crappy day
Sorry about your crappy day. These two are very good at lifting spirits.
You should try Quarterflash "harden my heart" they are school teachers turned rock stars. Would be a great female Friday choice. Right up your alley. Love the music selection. You are killing it!
I believe they already did. Amber loved that the lead singer also played the sax.
Quarterflash Take me to heart they have not reviewed
Good suggestion.
They did that one just a few days ago.
They reacted to Quarterflash "Harden My Heart" for female Friday December 17, 2021.
Scandal with Patty Smyth is one of the most underrated bands of the 80s. The Warrior is their anthem, but Goodbye to You and Hands Tied are equally awsome songs. You can't beat 80s music ....... great memories from my teenage years,
Well said
👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Goodbye to you!!!
'Warrior' was written by Holly Knight, who also wrote hits for Pat Benatar, among others. She put out her own album later. Check it out.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Can't argue with that 👍
@@boblozaintherealworld3577 "Love is a Battlefield" was originally going to go to Patty Smyth but she decided to take some time off from music.
Lead Singer, Patty Smyth (rhymes with might) was considered by Eddie Van Halen as the replacement when David Lee Roth left Van Halen.
NO, doesn't rhyme with "might." Rhymes with "lithe." Long "I," soft "th."
Sm - eye - th
Hard “i”.
Eddie knew what a powerful vocalist she is. Honestly, he did great with getting Sammy. But a 2nd band project with Smyth I would have loved to have seen.
Lithe doesn't have a soft "th." You may be mispronouncing it.
Have you guys done “goodbye to you” bh Scandal. It’s fun. Patty Smyth also did a great duet called “sometimes love just ain’t enough” with Don Henley that is awesome
I would recommend reacting to Kim Wilde, another great 80s singer. Kids in America was her first big hit in the U.S. She does a great cover of You Keep Me Hanging On.
Yep - if they like Patty Smyth, they'll like Kim Wilde!
I really like the song, You Keep Me Hanging On.
Two great songs from Kim Wilde. IMHO her cover of You Keep Me Hanging On is better than the original.
And how about Kim Carnes "Bette Davis Eyes"
[Edit: ah, they did hear it]
@@mosquitobight They have already reacted to it.
If you want some full blown 80's sound check out The Hooters "And We Danced." I was more of a head banger in the day but that song just makes me smile to this day.
Same to all of this. I also love their song “Day By Day.” Both of those just put me in a good mood.
"All You Zombies" was my favorite of their hits.
@ Bill Bufford And We Danced fans should check out the 2014 track "rollercoaster" by the Bleachers - very 80s
More of this band!!!
Great pick!
"Win Some Lose Some", and "Goodbye to You" are great listens as well. She also sings backing vocals with Don Henley on a blues rock tune called "Bluest eyes" by a really cool band Storyville.
Patty Smyth can sing. Eddie Van Halen asked her to front the band and she said no. She is also married to John McEnroe the tennis legend.
She was married. They divorced a long time ago.
Not true, they’ve been married since 1997, both were divorced at least once before that.
@@unklesalty3732 Wrong. Married for about 25 years.
@@eltigre5469 Yeah, I was thinking of another couple. First time I’ve been wrong since ‘06.
I didn't know that! Hhhhha
Their first big hit "Good Bye to You" was a great early 80's banger with the vibe you guys like. Make sure you get the early, primitive-looking video that shows the band.
Patty Smyth is Gorgeous I've always loved her voice ( Infact she was supposed to have been the leed singer of Van Halen when David Lee Roth left van halen. Another great song with her in it is, (Sometimes love just ain't enough) A duet with her and Don Henley from the eagles.👍❤️🎤
I had lots of crushes on actresses and singers growing up, but I absolutely FELL HOH for Patty! And Goodbye to You is just the ultimate.
I never heard that she was going to be Dave’s replacement over Sammy. If that ever happened we would of lost out on some of the greatest Van Halen music. She was good but no where close to that level.
I'm glad you mentioned it. Can you imagine her as the frontwoman for Van Halen? Many, many years ago I saw an interview about her turning down the Van Halen opening. She wasn't the only one asked. Sammy was the 3rd choice. Who was the other?
The other singer was Mitch Malloy, an L.A. scene rock vocalist who actually auditioned for Van Halen and thought he was going to get the gig until Eddie met Sammy and immediately dumped Mitch. Since 2018 Mitch is now the lead singer of Great White. It's true Patty was Eddie's first choice to replace Dave and she turned the offer down. Personal fun fact, I saw Sammy & Van Halen in '86 in Seattle and for their encore they covered Led Zeppelin's "Rock-n-Roll". Ann Wilson of Heart came on stage and performed it with them. It was amazing.
@@frankdtank7444 Proving once again that the internet is still great. Thanks Frank.
"Goodbye to You" is another good one by them.
This dropped right after I graduated from high school and was on the radio a lot. Next, try her duet with Don Henley called “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough.”
This was truly a time for female power and she rocked it! It’s as simple as that. Wow, thank you! I haven’t listen to this in a long time!
When this song came out, I waited for hours to catch it on the radio just to record it on a separate tape recorder. Yes I'm old.
You are not alone.
Everybody taped stuff off the radio back then. The only thing that sometimes ruined it would be an idiot DJ who spoke over the opening or closing of the song.
After three decades Patty Smyth still has a great big voice. Check out the duet she did with Don Henley from Eagles - Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough, which she wrote. She and her husband, John McEnroe happen to live in my neighborhood in NYC. I’ve seen her on occasion but never him.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee I see what you did there!
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Lol. Jay and Amber are not going to get that.
I didn't know she was married to him now. My parents very vaguely knew him as he was tge celebrity spokesman for a charity my father was on the board of 25 or do years ago.
@@danalyntuthill1538 I didn't get that until I suddenly heard it in.my head said very loudly.
@@johncampbell756 he was first married to Tatum O’Neal, had three kids together.
One of my all-time favorites. Even the dudes jammed to this in high school.
One of the things that made for so much creativity in music in the 80's was the new medium of MTV and music videos. I think it inspired so many bands and singers to make some amazing music that otherwise would not have happened.
Still got to do Chic for Female Friday. Top notch disco.
Uh, no! No dudes jammed to this. Those weren’t dudes - maybe softball players
@@rileyandmike The NBA used this song for a Charles Barkley highlight video.
@@jp3813 that doesn’t mean the “dudes jammed” the song in school! Chicks and soy boys work for the NBA and one of them obviously selected the song
@@rileyandmike In the 80s? The WNBA didn't even exist back then.
@@jp3813 didn’t say anything about the WNBA. Marketing in the nba picked the song. Have a nice day - I won’t reply anymore
Next Stops, 80's Female Friday Edition:
Scandal, "Goodbye to You"
'Til Tuesday, "Voices Carry"
Bow Wow Wow, "I Want Candy"
Yes!
"Voices Carry" yes... but NOT the video. It's horrifically awful and ruins the song.
Quarterflash "Harden My Heart"
Missing persons “Words”
Keep them coming!
Berlin, "The Metro"
Nena, "99 Luftballons" (must be the German version)
Romeo Void, "Never Say Never"
Love Scandal...another of theirs to consider is "Goodbye to You" More suggestions for Female Friday: Yvonne Elliman - "If I can't have You" (70's disco era)
Sheila E. - "Glamorous Life" (80's) Taylor Dayne- "Love will Lead You back" (90's) T'pau - "Heart and Soul" (80's) I hope you will like them!
"Goodbye To You" is my favorite Scandal song. Patty is beautiful and she can sing, baby.
"Love's Got a Line On You" is another classic that features two future legends in the music video. See if you can pick them out.
John McEnroe is one lucky bastard.
:-)
You guys should react to…
Scandal - Goodbye To You
🎸🤘
And "Hands Tied."
Love's Got a Line on You & Beat of a Heart are also great songs to consider!
@@screwyootube1 Agreed!
Such an underrated female vocalist. Powerful voice with range. I'm in love.
"Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" the duet with Patty Smyth and Don Henley is straight fire!! 🔥 Their voices combined are just...😍
THIS WAS MY JAM! I love that y'all enjoyed it!
Thank you so much guys! I had mentioned this before so I'm glad you could get to it.
BTW, that's Patty Smyth as the lead and she is sheer fabulousness! :)
If you guys watch the Netflix series "Glow", this is the song that opens every episode.
This band had some heavy hits in the early- mid 80s- "Goodbye To You", "Beat Of A Heart", "Only The Young" (which became an even bigger hit for Journey when they covered it), Scandal vocalist Patty Smyth had a hit duet with Don Henley from The Eagles in the early 90's called "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough".
The video for "The Warrior" is great, too- classic 80's high-fashion post-apocalyptic cheese; blew my 13-year-old mind when it came out.
Y'all will love this!thus!! Eddie Van Halen asked her to be the new lead singer of Van Halen after David Lee Roth left. They were friends and he loved her vocals. She turned it down because her career was taking off and she honestly wasn't quite sure she'd fit. He asked her not to tell Sammy he had asked her, lol!
I'd recommend checking out the song she has with Don Henley called Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough
SOMETIMES LOVE JUST AIN'T ENOUGH WITH DON HENLEY, IS AMAZING TRACK 💘
TWO MUSIC LEGENDS 💯🥇💯
The 80s were so much fun. I wouldn't mind having another run at them.
get behind me in line . . .
That was about 1984 - 1985... loved it back then the same as I do right now. Always a fav of mine...
You should check out Patty Smyth singing "Whole Lotta Love" on Letterman. She also sings what I think is the best version of "Downtown Train."
killer track... voice, guitar...everything is perfectly produced
Fem Fatale, Waiting for the big one....MTV video...how much can the Robb Squad blus???
Patty Smyth is a beast. Her vocals knock you over everytime.
Married to John McEnroe, also great ballad with Don Henley "Sometimes Loves Not enough" A Number ONE!
Another band to react to from the 80s is Lone Justice and for Female Friday. Their lead singer, Maria McKee was amazing. She's still out there. With Lone Justice, it's best to listen to the studio versions or the official music videos to get the full effect of her voice. I did link one live version below. Here are some cuts to check out:
"Shelter": ruclips.net/video/jvo9MbTkUbE/видео.html
"I Found Love": ruclips.net/video/W7MNAWuoo9g/видео.html

Good suggestion, Maria has a cool voice, I have a couple of her solo albums.
Maria McKee’s first solo album is absolutely beautiful.
@@nadzee7101 I had her first solo album but lost it in a move. I need to get back to her.
@@zivo24 It really is. She released a new album in 2020 that I have to check out.
She was in the running to be the lead singer of Van Halen when DLR left the band
That's what I've always heard, even seen it come up in interviews, Patty was newly pregnant at the time VH was looking for a new lead singer so she wasn't able to do the touring.
Yay finally someone reacted to Patty Smyth -- She and Pat Benetar were my 80s rockin Babes --- A Beat of a Heart was my favorite Scandal tune --- I used to dance my ass off to this -- Lol those were the days
Goodbye to you and Sometimes Love Ain't Enough. Classic Patti!
great reaction and great song! You should react to 10,000 Maniacs "These are Days" Natalie Merchant is the singer and she is electric. That song always puts me in a better mood.
👍😃👍❣️❣️ I have suggested NATALIE MERCHANT a few times. . .
Two more great '80's songs with awesome '80's videos: "True Faith" by New Order, and "Wild Wild West" by The Escape Club. You will LOVE them!
As others have pointed out... Patty Smyth with a long "i" sound, not to be confused with Patty Smith, another highly influential singer.
WOW! Such a blast from the past! I remember blasting this album in my 70 Camaro when I was cruising on Friday and Saturday nights. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories!
Other great songs by Patty Smyth are: Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough and No Mistakes
You should do "Because the Night"
By Patti Smythe...
...written by Bruce Springsteen..
Absolute classic!!!
that's Patti Smith
@@Desibeatnik Smyth
@@toneman501 Desibeatnik is correct Because the Night was sung by Patti Smith
@@toneman501 Patti Smith and Patty Smyth are two VERY different people and their names are pronounced differently.
I think the punk rocker Patti Smith's best song is "People Have the Power"
I have loved this song since the day it came out. This is the first time I have ever seen the video though. It's like someone said, "Let's make it like the Broadway show 'Cats'", and then failed miserably.
this song was written by Nick Gilder who also wrote and sang "Hot Child In The City"
Stop! by Sam Brown would be a fantastic addition to Female Friday. She has an incredible voice. Please, please, please.
Totally agree. Love that song😃
She also sang with pink Floyd.
The incomparable Patty Smyth (not to be confused with 60s/70s singer/songwriter Patti Smith). I'm frankly amazed Scandal didn't last longer than they did. "The Warrior" was their highest-charting hit, but you have to listen to "Goodbye to You" before you consider yourself done with Scandal. "Love's Got a Line On You" is also a great song. And, I know you guys love interesting duet pairings, so I would highly suggest you do Patty's duet with The Eagles' Don Henley, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough".
LUBA... LUBA... LUBA!!!!!! Did I say LUBA????? lol Yep... I sure did!!!! If you are loving Patty Smythe... and this genre of 80's greatness... then you can NOT sleep on LUBA!!! She was the 80's female voice on hyperdrive!! I kid you not.. her vocals are truly amazing and she was just hit after hit .. after hit in the 80's. Well she was in Canada at least.. not too sure how big she was in the USA... but everyone I knew back in the 80's loved LUBA. Some of her very best songs... Every Time I See Your Picture..... Giving Away A Miracle.... How Many Rivers (To Cross)... Innocent (With Explanation) .. and her cover when A Man Loves A Woman!!! These are all brillliant.. and if you like her.. there are many more. She's truly gifted. BTW.... Patty Smythe... not to be confused with the artist Patty Smith... is married to the great tennis legend John McEnroe!! Anyway... loved today's Female Friday picks!!! They were all so great!!! 🤩😍 Oh I forgot this gem.. No More Words ... ruclips.net/video/zpoeAx-Bblg/видео.html
First saw this video when I was 12 or so. I was in AWE of Patty Smyth, especially with the hair and makeup.
"Goodbye to You" was their biggest song, but an underrated song from the same album is "Love is Gonna Get You." Also, "Beat of a Heart" never got as much airplay as it deserved. She had also a solo song also worth listening to: "Never Enough"
All great songs, also another great solo track from her, “Heartache Heard Round The World”. PS: The Scandal song you mentioned “Love Is Gonna Get You” is called “Love’s Got A Line On You”.

Patty still complains about hating this video 40 years later. And it only makes me analyze the difference between her just standing there, and a professionals acting even more.
"Goodbye to You" is my favorite. Breakup songs were never so much fun.
I doubt I am alone in the fact that there are certain songs that have a unique memory attached when ever you hear them……. They take you to a certain place and time in your life like it was yesterday…. Vivid memories. This song for me….. September 10, 1984… 0730…. Just completed Air Force Basic Training… Monday morning…. boarded the bus to the San Antonio Airport on my way to my first duty station. The beginning of a career and the rest of my life.
What a voice Patty Smyth had! It is so deep and rich, yet powerful and soaring, with a bit of grit.
awww man you guys are dighi into why I miss the 80s sooo much....!! because as you said... the 80s were so much fun!!
For me what I miss is the fantastic melodies of that Era.... Melody is something that has seriously been lost over the decades....
Little did we know, this would be the theme for the Knuckles series. 🤘
John McEnroe.
Back in -85 I asked for a casette tape off Cindy Lauper, so one the a side it was Cindy and on the b side the album Warrior by Scandal and it really got to me every song on the album, Ive always wondered why this band didnt make it big cause that singer is something special!
“The Warrior” was a fairly big hit, when I was in high school…but I haven’t heard it in many years…thanks.
It’s definitely a “bang banger”
The guitar solo in this song is Scandal member Keith Mack who also appears in the video. Even though this song was probably Scandal's biggest hit, the band was falling apart and on its last legs when this song (their last hit) was released. It's kind of obvious that Patty Smyth was setting herself up for a solo career when the band went from being called "Scandal" to "Scandal featuring Patty Smyth." Keith Mack was a very talented and respected guitarist. In addition to his work with Scandal he also played and toured with the likes of Joe Cocker, Paul Young, Bryan Adams and Cyndi Lauper.
Yep. '80's. No denying it. So much fun music back then and Scandal was one of the best, if not short lived pop groups. BTW, love the Rob Squad swag.
Their song Goodbye To You marked the beginning of the New Wave era from about 82 to 86 and is a classic!
Patty Smyth has also been married to the tennis player, John McEnroe, for the last 25 years.
Patty Smyth is still the lead sing of Scandal, plus she is married to famous professional Tennis player, John McEnroe
This is a HUGE departure from her prior hit-Because The Night (written by Bruce Springsteen).
That was Patti Smith - this is Patti Smyth. Two different singers.
Celine Dion - It's all coming back to me know (Official Video) - I Drove all night

I'm so glad you kids appreciate Patty Smyth and Scandal's The Warrior! One of the best hits of the 80s!
Great reaction you two always entertaining.
Great singer Patty Smyth (pronounced SmYth the Y sound).. in the era with Pat Benetar and Joan Jett.
There was another Patty; Patty Smith who sang "Because the Night" another great song from this 80's era and can be added to your woman's of rock on Friday's.
Great song. I was in high school when it came out, and our mascot was the Warriors, so you know it got played during warm ups for sporting events. Would love to see you react to Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday, the lead singer is female and Edge of a Broken Heart by Vixen, an all female rock group. I love watching you two. Keep it up!
Nothing scandalous 😉 about the in your face marching beat in this tune and Patty's powerful voice!! Plus, the guitar 🎸 - which I LOVE that Amber mentioned!! 🙂 This song, IMO is right along side Sunglasses At Night!! Those two were so cool at this particular time (1983 & 1984) of the 80's!! I also loved how J busted out 80's right at the beginning!! 😂
Love y'all... you two are so much fun!! @Rob Squad Reactions
I used to put this song on a lot to go running. Def a fuel booster for that extra mile
Hands Tied and No Mistakes great songs as well. Fun fact famous tennis player John McEnroe is her husband
If this song can't lift your day and make you want to rock, I don't know what can! You just did one of the mid-80s most classic songs, a constant favorite.
Now I'm going to do everyone a favor and turn you on to a song of theirs that was a minor hit and seems to be forgotten about today - "Beat of a Heart." I think you'll like it too!
Patty Smyth is the lead singer, never understood why it was Scandal featuring Patty Smyth tho since she was part of Scandal. Also, Jon Bon Jovi used to be in the band before forming Bon Jovi, but he wasn't in this song.
We saw Patty Smyth and Scandal on the 80s Cruise. Her voice is still amazing! I got to talk to her a bit after the concert and got a photo. She was really nice.
This was one of those songs you turned UP when it came on the radio! Oh yeah, totally 80s to the limit. Patty Smyth has one more amazing voice. Great reaction! Peace and love!
Roller skating to this in the 80s and all the other pop rock classics can’t be duplicated
I went to Westwood high school. your mascot was a warrior. this was your school song. I went in 1983 -84 year
This is one of my favorite songs. It popular when I was young. Brings back so many good memories. I am so fortunate to have lived my teenage years in the 80's.

i was a young teenager living in costa rica at the time.
remember loving this song, sheena easton strut, pat benatar, etc.
Many every time you play a classic from the 80's, it makes me so sad at how much I took for granted when was living those years, and it makes me wish so hard I could go back. Patty Smyth(the lead singer) has been married to tennis great John McEnroe since 1997...and while this song may be their most popular, many, including myself, feel 'Goodbye to You' was their best hit. I'd definitely check that one out if you liked this...IMO, it shows Patty at her best.
Yes. I'm so glad you got to the amazing Patty Smyth. If she didn't stop for a bit with music to have a child she was going to be given the song, "Love is a Battlefield" which went to Pat Benetar.
Another old favorite of mine. Though I do need to confess that without directly hearing it, I tend to merge this with Heart's "Never" in the chorus.

Patty was lead singer, and only female member of Scandal...she is the singer we see and hear. Later she broke from Scandal and their songs became to say "featuring Patty Smyth."
Her last name has a British pronunciation of Smie-th. The "y" is a hard "I", form future reference. Because there needs to be a future here with Patti Smyth.
She has a few song releases where Don Henley and her shared a mic...mm-hmm! "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough" being the biggest.
Lol,
Mama always said, "life is like an 80's video, you never know what you're gonna get!"
If you like her spunk you DEFINITELY need to watch Scandal - Goodbye to You. She said in an interview that they didn't have anything planned for the video so she took it on herself to make it happen. She danced and flirted throughout the video. And that freakin' red dress!!! HOT!
Goodbye To You is another huge one, plus her duets. Patty Smyth is incredibly talented.
Love this song, and agree "Goodbye to You" is another classic. J you have great energy and Amber you are totally adorable.
Patty Smyth is a singer that is so underrated vocally she is so crisp and clean (In many ways she is a throw back of a singer you’d see in a smoky jazz club! “Wish i were You” and Carnival lights really great songs! “Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough was in many ways her adult/mature break out hit (Really tragic song with a lot of heart & soul)
Quarterflash- harden my heart, motels-only the lonely, scandal- goodbye to you all Great female songs for you.
