I am here because of he KNUCKLES series on Paramount + My 6yr old son kept reminding me of April 26, so here we are. Im an 80s baby, so this sound will always do it for me. Best part is, when i gave birth to my son and when i 1st held him, i looked at him, and pronounced him as The Warrior. had no idea of this song. my soft sensitive ass is in tears now. Knuckles the Echidna, a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog videogame series. You should DEFINITELY give it a try.
It's a TV series that's on Paramount+ and it's really good, you could definitely see it...
To combine those two answers into the full context, the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games has a successful series of film adaptations going. Two hit movies and a third on the way, was arguably the biggest contributor to video game movies being taken more seriously lately. The Sonic series _also_ has a character called Knuckles the Echidna, who was introduced to the movies through the second film and just had his own Paramount+ series come out on the 26th. Great series, btw, great films, and largely a great series of games. Recommend all of it.
Point is that this was the theme of the Knuckles series and it played a few times in the show proper as well.

I'm 49 years old now and can remember being a little kid glued to the TV waiting for this video to come on. I didn't have to wait long because MTV played it at least once an hour maybe more. It was on heavy heavy rotation back when the song was huge. I'll never forget it.

I ask myself the same thing. I sit here at work listening to my 80's jams because I would go crazy listening to all the other crap or the complaining of people around me. This keeps me calm, brings back some great memories and I just chill.

Dear Patty Smyth, thank you for not killing this video. Yes, it is silly, but then so was so much of the 80s. I love this video because it takes me back to when I was younger.
Silly it was, even for that era, but, great song. Didn't know until I read his autobiography that she was married to former tennis great John McEnroe. He had some hilarious stories about how she put him in his place when he got too "uppity" at music award ceremonies, lol.
It's a very artistic video, but it wasn't Smyth's (or anyone else in Scandal's) artistic vision. That makes it easy to see scrapping it. But, I think her record label was right in that it would be dumb to waste all the money that went into making it. And, it's not like it's terrible. It's typical overproduced 80's fare, sure, but for its era it's just fine.

@giantleprechaun2350 Probably because in the US your identity, personality, should be defined by your skin colour over all else. It's a bizarre phenomenon that unfortunately seems to be spreading. In Europe its not so much skin colour as parents country of origin, religion and/or political ideology (mostly those far left and far right). Its a sad thing to see. I remember when I grew up and all my class mates liked a band with lyrics that were left anarchistic. Everyone listened to them no matter if they were liberals, conservatives or social Democrats. Personally, I believe that you can dig whatever music you want no matter your skin colour, culture, religion or political ideology. They are not necessarily connected.

Played the cassette non-stop in my car over the summer after graduating high school and hanging with the summer-fling girlfriend before we started college and everything changed. Songs are like drugs that bring back the emotions and memories of when you first heard that song, but still let us layer on more now.

Such a great thought, such a truth. The inspiration for new songs is simply foolish things mostly, once in a while something good appears, but it's rare. The way people lived in the 80's and years before was so intense and truly inspirational that's why we have such an amazing songs!
1984 I was 10, my mom was 36. She and I would sit and watch mtv videos together often. Videos like this one. She was usually the one to turn the channel on. I had friends who had moms that wouldn't let them watch mtv, I remember my mom found that appalling. She'll be gone for five years this past March. I miss her so much.

Back then you could only get better. you could clean up the sound back then but it was still you singing. now all the auto-tune programs can correct your mistakes and make you sing better without learning to sing better.

How I miss the days when record labels realised that this kind of music was amazing. I firmly believe we could still have music as good as this today if the labels were buying it. Yet for some reason, they seem to think snack music with zero shelf life is the best way for them to make money.
3 years later I see all the comments under my post about my daughter beating off Ovarian Cancer and I am just floored at the outpouring from everyone.
