He is right with this review. The Cleveland line of hybrid-irons are easier to hit, go higher, fly further, and make the game more fun. If you are a slow swing speed Senior like me, they are worth trying. They will bring an immediate smile to your face.

I’ve just been for a fitting, tried others but these were amazing ! I’ve ordered the full iron set up from 5 iron. I’ve never hit a ball as straight and consistent, I’m probably 28 handicap, I reckon I’ll be 15 with these. Unbelievable
Update : I joined england golf, my initial handicap was 34.7, used these for 10 rounds, it’s now 25 and I’ve hit sub 100 twice this week, I love these irons !!

Every time I hit Halos with the golf shop launch monitor, I am amazed at the result. I never had a bad session with them. It took several months of working up the courage to buy them as I am sure my buddies will wonder if I am getting old. I'll tell them its the golfer, not the sticks.

I just got the 2024 Halo XL Full Face set last week. My misses were always a cut and the fitter set me up with 2 degrees up. I have a tendancy to be steep and bury the toe, the two degrees level up the leading edge and I am just puring them (at the moment). Am really glad I did it. My handicap is 8.3 and I expect to be a 5 or 6 in the future (if I can make any putts!).

Best irons I’ve ever owned. Soooooo easy to use and just plain out fun! I’ve already forgotten they have a big back end. I want to smile on a golf course and hit it straight and know where it’s going. Thanks for doing this vid!

    Andy
Great video. One clarification though. The Halos have very little offset. 2.11mm in the 6i which is comparable to blades and muscle backs. Most Game improvement irons are around 4-5mm in the 6i. That’s why I have always loved the Cleveland hybrid type irons. Very little offset. They get the launch from the weight low and back.

    • @thebarrs7595
      @thebarrs7595 2 года назад +2

Agree. I too have the Launchers. I hear comments about offset and am surprised given their limited offset compared to most GI irons, even PD irons. It's another reason why I love them.

I have the 5 through D wedge and truly enjoy them. I have only been playing for 1 year and I love the feedback when I hit a good shot. I'm turning 60 this summer and due to some back issues I don't have the flexibility I used to and I now hit that same 7 iron 130 yards consistently and the PW and D wedge make me feel like I know what I'm doing. I bought the Costco wedges but may get the sand wedge to this set and just use the 60 degree Costco one. Everyone at the range I let hit these clubs can't believe how easy they are and I have probably been responsible for the sale of a few sets. You gotta love technology when it works.

  • @kymstock1852
    @kymstock1852 2 года назад +1

I played on a soft sandy based course a few days ago. Every shot with my irons I dug trenches not divots, which is unlike me. I resorted to using the hybrid I had in my bag and I started to get better outcomes. I was wishing I had taken my wife's set of Cleveland HB Launcher iron-hybrids. The wider sole would have helped.
I have the same issue with the" lefts" with this type of iron too. You need to aim 10 m right of your usual target point to compensate. If your usual shot is a slice then this is the club for you! I can fade them a bit on demand, or it is a very straight "miss" if I don't quite get it right.
I have a 1/2 set of Tour Edge iron -hybrids ( Bazookas) about 10 years old and they very hybrid looking and perform similar to a small hybrid. I bought a TE HP4 to add to the set and it is more like the Cleveland iron -hybrids on looks and performance. I also bought a TE E521 6 iron to fill in a gap between the hybrids in my bag and single length irons. It too is draw biased, but more consistent in carry distance than my SL 6 iron. (for most single length iron players, there is a swing speed related point where the irons will converge on carry distance; for me it is my 6&7 iron) . My point is you can mix and match these iron- hybrids in a set of other clubs to fill a carry distance deficit.

I had the Sub70 799's in PW - 7I for the first half year of me picking up the game. Very similar in their "ugliness", but having just started I had no false ego to stop me from gaming them. I can honestly say those were to only reason I kept on trucking on. Now I have them saved for a rainy day, or for the next friend that is struggling to pick up the sport.
Purest clubs, absolutely not. Do they work, absolutely they do!

I bought the hb turbo 4-pw in February. I love them. Previously I found it hard to hit any iron over a 7 but with these it’s amazing. I love hitting the 4 and 5 irons. My whole bag now is Cleveland. Leave your ego at home. Your mates might look at you funny at first but when you consistently pure your shots they’ll start asking you if they can try your clubs out. I’ve knocked 3 shots off my handicap and the only thing stopping me from single figures is my putting. Currently I’m off 10.2. These clubs have made me enjoy golf so much more.

I had the Wilson launchpads last year I have also hit the Cleveland in a golf store as I am visually impaired I find that although they were very forgiving there was no feel I could not tell where the ball was going off the club face traded my launchpads for a set of Shreks on 745 irons a little less forgiving but I sure know where the ball is going off the face

Tried the Cobra T-Rail last summer and was going to be fitted for them. The fitter said I was not quite ready for them yet and fit me for Wilson D9 irons. I then won vouchers for Celtic Manor, they don’t do Wilson and I was fitted for Callaway DCB irons. Loving them but would have had T-Rails without issue … DCBs are helping me with consistency so I’m happy. Great vid again Andy, we’ll have to meet up for a round one day!

I parked my ego, bit the bullet and picked up a set of these yesterday, had a range session in the afternoon and could hit them badly. I even quite like their look at address.
Coming from a set of Titleist AP2s I'm amazed how well I'm hit them.
Looking forward to seeing how they fare on the course.
Only thing I can see is with the high ball flight is losing distance when hitting into a strong wind.

Right at 30-years ago I acquired a set of the then revolutionary, radical and highly controversial Cobra Golf King Cobra Oversized irons. The comments I got from friends on the golf course were routinely, "Those are huge, too heavy and you'll never be able to swing them', "how can you play with such ugly clubs", "those aren't real golf clubs", "when you learn to play you'll move up to a real man's style of club", "why don't you just learn how to swing instead?" etc. Everyone seemed to notice them, and more often than not ridiculed as being a gimmick or fad, that would soon disappear from the market. A few years later I acquired a fairway hybrid which pretty much drew the same reaction from others. I think we can all see how that turned out. Now I'm trying to determine if I should wait and pay the added cost to get the latest Halo Full Face clubs or find a set of "last-years model".

I’m 33. Played all sports growing up. Had a lot of issues when I picked up golf slowing my hips down (too much tennis and baseball).
My swing speed is pretty low for my age and heigh (85 ish) because I have to stay slower so I don’t let my hips fly open.
Last year I rebuilt my bag with Tour Edge HL4 iron woods and the Cleveland Launcher HD driver. This year I’ve gone even more down the rabbit hole with a Cleveland chipper, 7 wood, CBX2 wedges, massive Cleveland mallet putter, and I’m likely about to buy a 9 wood.
Never had a real lesson but did pick up tips from a few friends that are good. I score 85-80 on my home course. The clubs have made a huge difference in terms of miss hits and launch angle and since I didn’t grow up playing I don’t give a rats a** what they look like. I consistently beat all my other playing partners who refuse to play with game improvement equipment and my clubs (and course management) are large reasons why.

What an interesting review! I have a weird take on this, but as one who grew up with blades because that's all we had when I was young, I think that one issue is lofts. Traditional lofts had something for me that modern lofts are harder to achieve, and I think that is why people struggle with long irons and I think that this kind of modern tech is good for that. Wish they would make all these game improvement irons in traditional lofts to get the best of both worlds. Cheers!

I bought a set of these two years ago (end of the year) paid slightly under $500 CDN. I only bought them because they were 1/2 price as I was wary as to whether or not they were a gimmick. I’m a senior golfer who has struggled with my game. They have added total joy into a once frustrating game. I hit them longer and straighter and higher. I lower my handicap from off the scale to a 18.6 / Friends don’t really notice the look of the clubs (they don’t care). They do care that I’m hitting the fairways and not holding then up as I use to do.

I am a 72yr old golfer with quite a few restrictions. I have a set of Callaway apex DCB's and a set of Halo XL's. I love the look and feel of the Callaway's. Being honest, I hate the look of the Halo's. BUT, I play the Halo's because, I hit them fat and thin, they go straight. I get quick from the top, they go straight etc. They are amazingly easy to hit. So now I hide the looks with a set of head covers and simply play better golf 😊

I am considering hybrid replacement for my 4 and 5 iron in the future. Minimum 7 wood at least. I find my 4 iron sometimes rolls out to 200 yards and other times carries 150 yards. It's frustrating when it goes 150 yards. That's why i am thinking 7 wood or hybrid.

I knew you were talking about those when you started talking. I cant see myself putting them in my bag simply because of the look. I played the Cleveland VAS irons way back in the mid 90s when I was still learning, they had a ton of offset as well and as I got batter I had to move to a more standard offset.

Three months ago I purchased a set of Cleveland Hibore XLI Hybrid Irons and I have lost seven shots off my handicap at the age of 66 years young. The 8 iron around the greens is as good as any chipper and I am enjoying my golf as much as ever. Surely that's what it is all about? The golf snobs do not know what they are missing.

As a low handicap golfer the problem I have with these kind of clubs is the ball can balloon on me. If there is any wind blowing then control is lost. Also getting flyers with an approach shot does not help - I saw on the video you were going over the back of the green. Solid hits can come out hot off the face. OK if you are just whacking it down the fairway, but no use on a tight approach.

I see that you mentioned that these are offset to help slicers/ faders.
I have just bought a set and all my ahots were going to yhe left, how do I rectify this?
Do I put the ball further back in my stance?

I have the previous set the HB turbos for winter play as my local course gets pretty soggy, it’s so easy to clear the mud bath. I can’t quite believe how many thin or off centre hits somehow go straight down the fairway with little distance lose. I won’t ever sell them as one day I’ll have stopped caring how they look.

How about taking them on the course Andy and seeing what you score. When my game is in a dip I definitely seriously consider easier clubs. When I am hitting my irons well, I forget all about it (hcp 15).

Had the 588 altitude. (same as the halo but older) didn't like the graphite shaft but the loved the performance. I've now got the cobra T rail's that you recommended. They in my opinion are better than the clevelands.

I just convinced a buddy who hasnt played in 15 years, that these would be great as he is not comfortable in contacting downward on the ball and is more of a sweeper. I think he is going to end up scoring better than me in a few months, albeit it might be in different areas of the game, but it is entirely reasonable to think he will pick these up when he gets them and love them to death.

I considered the Launcher HB Turbos and the original Wilson Launchpad irons when shopping for new irons last year, but settled on the D7s instead. The looks don't bother me that much and the new Launchpad irons look much better than the first iteration.

Enjoyment is everything for 98% of us everyday golfers, if you are realistic you ain’t going to be a tour pro, 😢your not going to play with Justin rose or Tommy fleetwood or Rory Mac every week why worry make the most of every bit of help you can get and play as many different courses as possible!!, Believe me from a man who has played most courses on the Costa del sol, almost 50 different courses over the last 10 years if you include the sherry courses in Cadiz enjoy your golf it soon flies by. Life’s to short play ego golf. 👍👍

I remember back when the Nike Slingshot clubs came out. I hated the look. One day I was in a shop that sold off brand copy components. I tried one out that was a copy of the slingshot and loved it. I built me a set and they were the best irons I had ever hit. I could not get past the look. But looking back today, I would try those Cleveland’s in a heartbeat. There are more here than need to be using those than want to admit it. We need to find the middle of the fairway, and stop worrying if it looks like a blade or not. I still love a blade looking club. But being 61 years old, it’s time to stay away from them.

Had a fitting for the cobra Trails and enjoyed that but think they messed my order somewhat they end3d up coming fitted with 45grm lite shafts and each club roughly went the same distance they should have been fitted with 60/70 grm shafts so went for fitting elsewhere and got mizuno hot metal 921 65grm shafts

I have just ordered a set of these hoping to make golf fun & less frustrating.
Out of interest, Cleveland have the Smart Sole wedges. Would I need these as well as the Halos? Or will the PW & SW Halo work just as well?

As a Launcher player who has played the Smart Sole wedges, I sound a note of caution. The SmartSole do not really allow you to play finesse shots. They are 'just get it out of the bunker' clubs. Try Cleveland CBX cavity back wedges ... best of both worlds.

I attribute much of that to the enjoyment and confidence the Launchers gave me. Solid contact on a regular basis, with mishits far less punishing.
