  • What if the first World War, rather than ending in a Triple Entente victory as in our timeline, or in a Central Powers victory as others have speculated, instead had no definitive winner, the Great War ending in a stalemate.

The displaced Emus, desperate and broken, establish a fascistic state to reclaim their homeland and forcibly remove the Aussies. Of course, Japan backs the Emus in exchange for a portion of Australia. Germany, recognizing Emu's as the master race of bird, supports them in their goal of establishing legitimate rule in their domain, and annexing the Kiwis.

Here's a dark alternate history: What if Chernobyl wasn't detected in time by other countries and as a result was not stopped, resulting in the radiation spreading across all of Eastern Europe?

    • @twojacksandanace3847
      @twojacksandanace3847 4 года назад +235

I'm kinda confused, what do you mean by "detected"? Do you mean if the Russians hadn't told anyone about it and kept that massive fucking explosion that killed thousands secret? Because radiation did spread all over Europe, they sealed it off later on after the brave sacrifice of several Russian teams turned the reactor off. So what your saying is if the reactor wasn't turned off and for some reason they didn't bother to do anything about it? Thats interesting but makes no sense, the Soviets knew what would happen if they didn't stop it so they basically told their guys that if you don't do this were all fucked, even if it means you die so them not bothering to do anything bout Chernoble is just bonkers not to mention the reaction the rest of the world would have if the societs just let that thing sit around and spew radiation into their nations.

@@twojacksandanace3847 I think the more interesting version would be if the predicted second explosion had occurred and the 500km dead zone occured (rather than the current 30km exclusion zone). This second explosion was pretty likely and was only averted due to the sheer resources dropped onto the reactor, and the tunnels made to secure its underside. It's interesting as the 500km dead zone would be in the heart of the USSR and would have huge knockon effects across the world

Bulgaria was not defeated by Greece. There was a very strong Anglo-French contingent in nowadays Greek Macedonia. The Bulgarians were repeatedly attacked with overwhelming force in 1916, 1917 and 1918 until the breakthrough in late 1918. Interestingly enough, the collapse of the Bulgarian front was not the final battle there. The British rushed forward through southern Bulgaria but were soundly defeated. The Bulgarians then agreed on conditional surrender. They would allow Entente troops through their territory but Bulgaria proper was not to be occupied.

Bulgaria traditionally raised up far larger army in timeline. With a general win its population could be nearly twice of Greeks population. Other Balkan allies? Alt-Alt history-
So there’s a browser game where you alter world events and mess with the timeline. One thing you can do is extend ww1 to basically the 1000 year war. Obviously absurd as it’s supposed to be but that gives the idea of what if the war just settled into a less aggressive war and the trenches became the new borders basically. Eventually with the static borders but perpetual fight might either lead to shifts in combat technology or tactics by countries or a shift to espionage or civilian economies to try to make their nation the most self sufficient, efficient, and stable nation on the principle that something is bound to happen with time and your trying to survive the long haul but in terms of lifetimes. I could maybe see different nations evolving down different routes. UK might attempt to make a static defense around the North Sea by building sea platforms to act as sub detection and a defense bastion and well avoiding the inevitable constant loss of life from ship based blockades. France might plan to take control back of their lost territory in the long run so possibly to secretly thwart trenches they would dig underground tunnels below a detectable range, then planning mass explosions below entire lines of trenches. Germany would I suspect invest in civilian industry due to the blockade and try to suffice for their shortages. As Russia would peace out and likely become communist as the other powers are preoccupied, they may make faster advances in increasing the standards of living and general well being as they would interact much less with the war. To round it off for this to happen the US would have to likely not intervene so it may simply sell to the waring powers and maintain great economic growth threw weapon profiting and as they may end up interacting the most with any of the warring factions they may be the hotbed for intelligence and espionage. This is a fairly unrealistic idea but I just liked the concept so wanted to mention it.

I don't think that without german and italian support, the nationalist side would have won the civil war in Spain. The Republic had superior resources, manpower, and had the support of the Soviet Union. Also, France and Great Britain were keen on the idea of supporting it, but ultimately they did not to avoid conflict with germany. With this possibility out of the picture, I think that the republic would have gained a lot more of external support, and combined with superior manpower, control of the most important cities, and more resources, the republic would have probably beaten the nationalists. In our timeline, the republic started winning the war at the beginning, and it wasn't until the battle of the ebro (I think) that the tides were changed. So, taking this into account, I believe that the republic would have mostly won under these circumstances

I love the thought of "what if" with all of these alternate history scenarios. When you change the outcome of a certain event, you can "probably" predict what is likely to happen in the days and weeks afterward. The problem becomes exponentially more difficult to predict what will happen in the months and years to follow. There are just too many possibilities to account for, including outcomes no one has thought of yet. Even with the help of super computers and an artificial intelligence, we would probably be somewhere if the neighborhood of 60% accurate. It is still fun to postulate though, and I will keep watching the videos. Thank you very much for all of the hard work and thought you put into making this particular video possible.

I used to run a board set up for geopolitical with members role playing as each nation in this period. The scenario of a stalemated ending to the Great War was the most interesting of the games we ran. Germany stagnated. Austria-Hungarian crumbled piece by piece in the 1920's. Poland became something of a power especially when the War with Russia went even better than in the Historical Timeline. Italy absorbed bits of the Balkans over time until it caused a new Balkan War in the 1930s. Russia in this world went White not Red and fought with the Balkan nations against Italy, while most of the world sat out. The Ottoman Empire was dismembered by Britain and France while no was looking and the Washington naval Treaty never happened. The US stock markets blew up in 1923 instead of 1929. Japan was neck-deep in China 10 years sooner than was normal but got caught short with the 1923 earthquake, stagnating them in every area. Germany retained the Colonies after the war, changing the Pacific dynamic completely.

Can you do this for me?
    1. What if South Korea was became a monarchy (not a republic) while North Korea was still communist and reunited as a confederation?
This was inspired by the Korean TV series called The King 2 Hearts
    2. What if in the alternate timeline, after the dissolution of Soviet Union, Russia established Russian Federation (which, at the time during Boris Yeltsin's presidency, is way more democratic before Putin era) BUT AT THE SAME TIME restoring the monarchy (which sounds totally like a federal parliamentary democracy and semi-constitutional "elective" monarchy because Romanvos are dead so a new generation of Russia royal family will take place "via national election" or some remnants of the Romanvos to rule the nation)?
    3. What if Egypt restore or adapt the Ancient Egypt system (everything from the culture, lifestyle, religion, education, laws, government, warfare, etc.) to the modern world?

The Central Powers did secure adequate calories and nutrition for 1918 by occupying the Ukraine. I learned this little-known fact (including the caloric and nutritional details) while researching for an undergrad term paper in 1997. However, it is not politically acceptable to point out today due to it’s superficially pro-Hitler connotations about the mythical “stab in the back”. The reason Germany couldn’t win in 1918 was that by June the US had over a million troops in France, and that number doubled again by November. However, even this fact is politically incorrect to point out today due to the implication that America matters. I hate politically motivated “Histories”! However, how does one write a “neutral” History? By it’s very nature, any significant fact is political.

Greece alone would be poor and with an army which could be surrounded on 2 to 3 sides by larger Bulgarian armies. They basically didnt focus as much on land while having to also build navy which is expensive too. Anyways. I think he doesnt understand that no1 back then gave a shit if communists rose to power. No1 took them seriously. Also Serbians receiving Bosnia? That's just sad and dumb as hell. A country which is completely swallowed would receive new lands? Tbh they would rather be in their border before first Balkan war or a bit more as it's a stalemate. A&H likely will receive German help or wont need it and would remain and would get larger.

Here’s what I think would follow, I should mention that I am British so I may be biased but here it goes anyway...
I genuinely think that unless both Japan and the US unite at the same time to take down the British led world we could see Britain dominate the world. However, I find this highly unlikely due to Japan’s expansionist policy which I could see them expanding into American Pacific territory instead seeing them as a weaker power unable to react in time to properly defend.
Additionally, with America remaining isolationist and not being involved during the world war it is highly likely that both the British and Japanese would ignore any attempt at American involvement at a naval treaty such as Washington in our own timeline due to holding onto pre war views of America being a junior power. Which could be enough for the British to not cancel the Anglo Japanese treaty of 1902 in order to appease the Americans like in our timeline.
This being said without a Naval treaty in Place a naval arms race would ensue just as it had prior to WWI in our timeline. The Anglo-French union and German limitations being nonexistent thanks to no Versailles would mean that an Anglo-German coalition would still reign supreme, the Americans would have to face a choice of having to build strong navies on both of its coastlines or focusing solely on one enemy. Either way I could see a Japanese invasion of American holdings in the Pacific such as the Philippines or even Hawaii, this would in turn start a war between the two. Given the fact Britain and Japan have an alliance it isn’t too much of a stretch of the imagination to see Britain jumping to Japan’s defence. Or, failing that, Britain would see its role as Global policeman and involve itself this way. This would most likely see American aggression toward Britain, as a result Britain would most likely Blockade the eastern seaboard and reinforce the Canadian border.
I predict eventually an American defeat following the war similar to that of China in the second half of the 19th century in that the victorious powers would be able to have spheres of influence such as Britain in New England, Germany the Midwest, Japan influencing the west coast particularly San Francisco, Spain (who get involved to regain pride and some territories) would likely be involved in Florida and finally Mexico would likely take the opportunity to try and reclaim New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and parts of Texas particularly in the south and west. Following this I think that a revolution may take place instead or at the very least some states may choosing to secede the union. Given the historical and cultural connection and proximity to Canada, I would assume these states would be those under British influence in the North East of the country, how long this may take I don’t know.
Finally I predict a Cold War scenario between Britain and Japan while Southern Europe and the rest of the Americas remain neutral.

But what if Midway was the diversion (the USA sighting the Japanese carriers still at midway keep their fleet there), Japan’s fleet at midway is nowhere near the strength it is in our time line puzzles the allies.
In stead of just invading the Aleutian island they invade mainland Alaska threatening North America.
This is a what if that I want to see (what are the implications on ww2 and beyond)

They wouldn’t threaten North America. Alaska in the mid 1940s really didn’t have the infrastructure for them to push down into Canada and the US.
It would threaten the US supply’s of Lends lease. to the USSR, as the route would now be in Japanese hands.
Here’s a better one. What if the Japanese landed in, say, Washington state? Like something similar to the soviets in the game “world in conflict”.

    Brits and Germans working together...
I mean both peoples, even in our reality, sans their languages are virtually the same. Both love to complain a lot about anything and everything; They have the same taste in holiday destinations; They both have a spicy sense of humour; They both hate playing second fiddle to the Americans although they'd never admit it publicly...
There's probably thousands of additional similarities they share between them. It shows that they have common ancestors!

Unless you assume that Wilson had neither of his TWO strokes, he would not have been more involved in Latin America. Your analysis of Hoover versus FDR was extremely perceptive but Hoover was still likely t have lost due to being blamed for the depression. France was the first country to suffer a Communist revolution in 1870, so the chance that another would flare up was entirely possible. Britain was unlikely to abandon their jealousy of German industrial and manufacturing ascension until losing their overseas empire. A stalemate of World War I would have made World War II unlikely and left Europe with millions of more people now than otherwise.
