    This was the last album Cliff Burton was still alive for. He died in a horrible buss accident in Sweden. Metallica didn't ever break up, it was pretty close at the 2000's, but the boys still rocking hard and have just let loose a few concert venues and dates in the States. I hope they bring it over to Europe soon as well. Can't get enough of them... The guys are in their late 50s now, but you can't find a better act then this. They are and will forever be the road dogs, they play their music hard and fast and loud... And there is nothing like tens of thousands of people screaming at them while they do. James has said on many occasions that he probably owes his life to this music. It is a release valve for them all and if they couldn't vent in this way, there is no way of knowing what kinds of issues they would have ran into... Metallica for life!

    This is known as "Thrash Metal" old school and original. Metallica is part of the Big 4 of American Thrash Metal which included Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax during the 80's. Other bands were coming up and expanding the sound that exists to this day in many of the different genres of Metal.

    In an interview, Lars (drummer) said he gets tapes from James (vocals, guitar), and Kirk (lead guitar) full of guitar riffs, and he arranges them into a song. James later adds lyrics, and vocals. Not sure how involved the bassist is now, but when it was Cliff, he had heavy input in writing. Sadly this was Cliff's last with Metallica coz he tragically died soon after recording.

    metallica is still rocking hard to this day. james and kirk usually write the guitar riffs with contributions from the bassist. lars will arrange the guitar pieces together to create skeletons of the songs. The band then fine tunes each track together to make the final song. james will usually write the majority of the lyrical content for each song.

    Their songwriting process usually starts with either James(lead singer, rhythm guitarist) or Kirk(lead guitarist) bringing in a riff they wrote and building around it. James writes almost all of the lyrics. Lars(drummer)helps a lot with the arrangement or song structure. of course all 4 members are constantly bouncing ideas off each other while they’re in the studio.

    Aside from the instrumentation and energy you get from it, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a background check on every song of theirs to also understand it’s message and meaning behind it. It’s not all just fast riffs, rapid drumming and changing tempos/transitions. They’re one of the last few bands that have context behind their music. It’s so much better when you can put the instrumentation to the emotions of the lyrics.

    • @ktgo4424
      @ktgo4424 3 года назад +2

      Yeah, to me that's what separates them from Megadeth, who I like quite a bit. Megadeth is more technical, but Metallica puts more emotion into their music, and have an overall better vision for their songs. With Metallica, it's more about making great songs, and with Megadeth, it's more about jamming out. Perfect example is Megadeth's instrumental Into the Lungs of Hell. Great music, but not nearly as beautifully written and composed as Orion. Much more emotion with Orion.

    James (guitar/vocals) typically wrote the bulk of their music/lyrics, and he and Lars (drums) would then work together to arrange the song. If someone else was able to contribute lyrics or some riffs they too would get writing credit. Regardless the bass player would "write" his own parts, as well as Kirk writing his own guiar solos. But like all things great, it was always some sort of a team effort.

    No they didnt break up. But that someone probably meant their musical change and how they started to be more commercialised. A lot of hardcore Metallica fans felt dissapointed after "Metallica" album and after "Load" album they said Metallica is done. Myself included on some aspects. Newcomers to metal like you guys might still like their newer works tho. But back than for us, "getting softer" was like selling the cause, cos not too much ppl understood metal from outside like now. And it was like an effort to show yourself cute to mainstream which mentality of metal consist of standing up against that "despicable" system. Nevertheless, they are still the one of the respected bands ever gathered in metal. Peace!

    Greatness at it's best! Early Metallica was raw! They took it to the moon and back in 2.2 seconds Lol

    5:39 that right there, most underrated riff in all of metal, bar none. This is my favorite Metallica song.

    Being a black guy growing up in the Bronx in the 80s being called weird for listening to this music, it's refreshing to see other black people gaining an appreciation for it

    This is Metallica's last album with bassist Cliff Burton. He was killed in a bus accident while on tour in Denmark. Metallica has never broken up they just don't do concert tours as often as they did in the 80s and 90s.

    Usually Lars (drummer) and James (singer guitar player) write and compose the songs and in this case Cliff (bass) and Kirk (lead guitar) layer their stuff on top. However... Cliff was a big influence on their style and process.

    The opening is so slow and lengthy...and then it's just a full-speed charge through to the end. One of my favourite songs from probably my favourite album by one of my favourite bands of all-time. It simply does not get much better than this. 🤘

    They are still going strong, they changed sound wise after this. Though the last two albums has a 80's Metallica vibe. It's about how fast they rose after this.
