I was 13 on vacation in wildwood new Jersey. Summer of 88. This girl stayed in the house next to mine and we really hit it off. One day she knocks on my window and said hey youI gotta hear this!!! I'm like what??? She's like this band Metallica. It's like nothing I've ever heard. She hands me the cassette and already has it fast forward to master of Puppets the title track. I put the tape in, cranked the volume and pressed play......... once the opening riff kicked it something happened inside me. It was threw most beautiful and heavy thing I'd ever heard. I was listening to GUNS and ROSES already and motley crue etc.... but this was different. So I spent my whole summer with Metallica in my Walkman. One of the greatest summers ever🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤

I had a buddy that I would listen to Metallica with. Both our moms would steal our cassette tapes (of Metallica) when they found them because they thought it was the devils' music. Their music probably saved both my buddy and my life. We were both outcasts at a private prep school because we didn't fit in. So as you can imagine, we were depressed. When we first heard Metallica, we both wanted to know how they made this sound that we'd never heard before. So we started to learn to play guitar. Metallica and learning to play guitar together kept our heads above water and our a$$es out of trouble.
No one in my life (physically) shares my love of Metallica. So being able to watch you react and ask similar questions we had makes me feel that human connection again. A shared bond, if you will. My buddy and I didn't have a lot in common, but Metallica brought us together and kept us on the straight and narrow. I joke with my mom about how this "devil music" gave me an outlet for my anger, helped me navigate my depression in my youth, and stimulated my brain, which made me a better student.

And I DO actually remember where I was when I first heard this song. I was in a juvenile detention center in the late 80's called China Springs...I heard one of the counselors playing it in his car from the parking lot while we were getting smoked.

Hey mate. I remember it was 1988 and my best mate said to listen to these 2 albums. 1 was Ride The Lightning and 2 was Master of Puppets. I was INSTANTLY a hardcore fan ever since.
I have all their albums, all their DVD's and countless books. I have seen them 3 times live here in Australia and had tickets for the 2020 tour before James relapsed with substance abuse, but nothing will ever change with my loyalty as a die hard fan.
Playing their songs on guitar is a little hard for a novice like myself, but piss loads of fun haha.
Glad you liked the song bro, and keep checking them out. Their style changed a lot over the years and returned full circle with the release of the second last album Death Magnetic.
    Happy listening 👍

I was 12 when I got into Metallica. My first songs were Nothing Else Matters, and Enter Sandman of course, because my dad listened a lot to these. And in the youtube comment section people mentioned Master Of Puppets. I said "Hey, I need to listen to this." When I heard Master for the first time, I tought "Holy shit this rocks man". I went thru the album, and I said "I found my type of music!" to my dad. He laughed, and showed me Ride The Lightning. We listened to the whole album together. I wont forget that moment.

Like I mentioned on last Metallica reaction, I was 16 when this album came out sitting in class listening to this on my Walkman. This being the last song of album, my buddy and I couldn't sit still listening to this. A year later the garage band I was in we managed to learn this song. Over the years, skills improve and many different garage bands later, last band I was in we did a more aggressive version of this with more double bass throughout and in some sections added blast beats, the guitars were tuned lower and nastier. When we played this at shows.... Holy hell every body went crazy. Last band I was in thats what we did when playing cover songs, we made it our own.... foundation of original still there but we added our style, emotion, energy as well as skill. Ever heard a metal version of Michael Jackson's Beat It? Of aside from what Leo of Frogleap has done lol ✌🖤🤘😎🤘

@@r.deanmcknight136 Slayer, and I love em 2 death, has no choice. Metallica did. But with the death of Hanneman kinda same in that regard. Just old guys with fill ins trying to make a living and I'm not goin 2 knock that. But as I said, Metallica saw that they had the musical ability to branch out. Slayer couldn't...and that's no knock on anybody. I mean come on...Seasons in the Abyss was as commercial as Slayer got. This was actually a throw away line from another thread when ppl were attacking Metallica for the sound changing over the years and I asked what's more disingenuous....60 yr old millionaires playing Thrash or coming up with a rock album more befitting a 60 yr old? That's all it was. In short, if Slayer had cut their hair and released 4 or 5 unbearable albums they'd be finished. Metallica did and they still sell out every seat. That's the bottom line

This was my first Metallica song I actually listened to just to listen to it. I was born around Metallica but I think I was probably 5 when I first heard this. This album came out a year before I was born so my parents were jamming to this from the beginning which is one of the reasons I have a deep connection with this album. When I first heard this song I knew this band was the one and they’ve been my favorite ever since. Most people would start off with Metallica and mature into other things later but I am different. I kept loyal to them and have stuck with them from day one and I will never look back. They have saved my life on a few occasions, their music would cure me when I would get sick. There is a song for every occasion. Anyways I’m glad to share this band and their amazing life changing and awe enlisting music with you. Thank you for the reactions man

I was instantly hooked, bought the album and played it so much ended up having to buy another because I wore out the first one lol. Then when I was 15 and heard Megadeth for the first time and remembering an interview I heard state Dave was originally a member of Metallica, I bought their first album 'Killing Is My Business '..... last song on it is Mechanix and from first listen I knew there was something very familiar with it and after going back to playing Kill em All The Four Horsemen I finally connected the 2.... which is why I kept asking you to do a back to back reaction of those 2 songs ✌🖤🤘😎🤘

It’s very interesting watching people react to metallica nowadays. Not only did I grow up listening to Metallica, I grew up learning how to play Metallica songs on the guitar.
And the first song I heard from Metallica was in 1984. I was 11 years old and the song was seek and destroy. And to be honest, the first time I heard it, I was afraid of it. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t take me long until I couldn’t get enough of it. Heavy-metal is an acquired taste like coffee, or licorice. The first time you try it, you wanna spit it out. But then eventually, you can’t get enough of it.

I was raised in a small town and most music was basically banned in South Africa. Anycase, I was hooked on Metallica from there on. It was a struggle to get hold of any Metal music untill apartheid was finally abolished. I love Metallica untill this day, old or new it still is Metallica. Speaking of Metallica bringing and keeping people together, may I humbly request you listen to "Here Comes Revenge" by Metallica? Here's what James had to say about writing that sound:
"'Here Comes Revenge 'itself, it really came from … There's a fan of ours, and I was just trying to put myself in their shoes," revealed the singer. "There's a couple that showed up at so many shows, and they got into Metallica because their young daughter was a big fan, and she had gotten killed by a drunk driver."
"It just hit me: 'How can you guys find something positive in the world to connect you to your daughter again' - which was Metallica, the music she loved - instead of just snapping and wanting to just become bitter and attack whoever did this?" added Hetfield. "So I'm kinda putting myself in those shoes and how revenge must feel really powerful and great to do, but it doesn't satisfy that urge.
