@owenferny Hey ! Thanks for the push and the huge effort to spread the picker around the community :) We eared you remarks and just released a 0.7.0 version including: - Right click context menu on the advanced editor to create buttons (with possibility to use the settings copied on a button) - Framing buttons now can downscale the picker ! - Added 2 buttons to arrange button selection horizontally or vertically (enforce equal spacing between buttons) FYI: Synchronizing selection is a default feature which update the picker view when you select shapes from the viewport. It is enabled by default but unfortunatelly some wrong coded other tools can create evaluation loops at selection time. This kills picker perfomances :(. That why it is possible to disable.
Hey Lionel, wow that was quick! Those changes are so helpful, thanks so much for implementing them, and thank you SO much for this great tool, you're a true hero!
Is it possible to get 'Add multiple bottons' and also 'update button' option whilst in the advanced editor. This way you can adjust everything whilst in the advanced editor and you no longer need to use the se;lection picker for picker creation
Champion! I've been pioneering this at work as I fumbled through hands-on learning it, but so many tidbits I had no idea about like the search and replace and mirroring weren't obvious how to utilize yet are going to be huge for me. Thanks for this!
One thing that's cool, is that if you activate the "Auto switch tab with selection" on prefs and you have a scene with 10 spidermans and 10 duplicated pickers for every one of them, you can jump from one tab to another by selecting a control of the spiderman you want on the viewport. It helps a lot when you have a scene with multiple characters, specially if you have so much tabs that not all of them are visible without scrolling.
Ah. Someone made a video about this. I tried it and it's really working better for me than animschool picker. Definitely much faster to open than the animschool picker.
Hi, thanks for doing this. It is very helpful. I have a question. You created several buttons in your spidey picker. After that you opened the advanced editor. How did you move those buttons so you had access to them in the advanced editor work area?
When I install it, it works fine, but when I want to reopen the maya file, I can't open the picker anymore. Everytime I want to use it I have to reinstall dwpicker. Any help?
Not sure what I am doing wrong but I create a button on the picker, then open the Picker Editor and the buttons I created doesn't sync across. So i have nothing to edit. Am I missing a step?
maybe your background area isn't big enough, so you can't see it in the editor? try setting the background size to something big and see if you can see them?
@@owenferny Thanks for taking the time to reply. The background is set at 500 x 700 in the picker editor, but I don't see anything, even if I full screen there doesn't seem to be anything.
No way !! 😖 We made it to save studio's situation having suddenly more than 150 pickers locker accross 3 studio and 2 shows. We are selling animation, not tools, and we are more than happy to share it. By the way, we release as OpenSource MIT Licence, even if we had the terrible idea to monetize a new version, enough developpers already forked the project to ensure it is always remaining available. ^^
May I ask, after downloading the files from GitHub and placing the folder in the corresponding directory, running it in Maya causes Maya to crash. Has anyone encountered the same issue?
You kind of really glaze over the how to parts of the Script. Like how you made the button and how you opened the advanced editor. I figured it out but there might be people who could really use that information
You can save the picker inside the rigging scene. If you script a little, it is also possible to programmatically specify some pickers at opening. I know some studio have a customized the command to launch the picker, looking at the scene content.
It's cool but the only concern would be updates. Anim school make their primary revenue through the courses so they'll regularly update the picker. This seems like a dude made it and might start to fail if he gives up
No worry, I'm the main dev on the project, but this is supported by DreamWall Animation Studio. This is a core tool for our animation team. We are not going to close it for public because we share it with all our partners then why not to everyone. Our revenue do not depend on that either :) And if we collapse (who knows), at least it is Open Source and community will keep it alive.
I animate since 2004, and i never use any picker because it takes up screen space, then very often animator will have to check the poses in 3d space, its more direct to use a tear off perspective view. its a total personal preference. i actually dont' teach my students using a picker and use a tear off copy instead, imagine you are using picker to select, then animate in perspective, its like an extra step each time you select a control, that little time adds up.
for me it's about clarity and ease of selecting controls like select fingers in a fist manually one by one vs box select things using a picker, and no more eye squinting finding those tiny controllers hidden around hundreds of other controllers I also animate on camera view, only open perspective view sometimes so picker can reduce some clutters too
This is handy especially when you're animating in perspective. It happens quite often that while animating some controls like, let's say the finger tips, disappear behind some geo. You don't need to search for a specific control in a 20+ finger ctrl spaghetti salad in perspective view or in the outliner when this happens if you have a picker on your second monitor. This alone saves a ton of time. I always have my cam view + perspective view + outliner + channel box + graph editor + picker(if available) open while animating. Using a picker definitely doesn't mean I somehow ignore the rest.

How can I disable this feature? Maya crashes every time I run dwpicker.show(). I believe this is related to the evaluation loops you mentioned.

Forgot to mention, you can import AnimSchool Picker files too, so no need to recreate your picker from scratch either 🙌
Thank you.
WOW NICE
hi, how the import of a animpicker works? Cause I tried to import it but, nothing happened🤔
Extremely helpful for a beginner animator! Thank you
This is sick, I've been looking for an animbot picker alternative!
big samesies

Oh really? I've not noticed that, another point for DW!
Very cool video mr owen! Quite a controversial topic to talk about - I'm glad someone made the intiative!
I also use this picker, love it. I arrange my button horizontally like animbot selection set

there's a button to frame everything in the advanced editor, should set the work area to include every button in the picker
Awesome video man!
This is just a life saver !
Very handy! Thank you!
This is definitely a great tool to have, however I'm getting an OPENSSL crash error dialog box when using Maya 2023.
Thanks , this is very helpful ♥
awesome, thanks dude!
Yup! I love using this picker
Hi! It doesn't work with maya 2024.2. I can't run. Can you help me please? ModuleNotFoundError: file line 1: No module named 'dwpicker'
When I install it, it works fine, but when I want to reopen the maya file, I can't open the picker anymore. Everytime I want to use it I have to reinstall dwpicker. Any help?
pls help when i try and click the icon dwpicker it suddenly made my maya shutdown
what should i do?

Thanks for the feedback! I guess I assumed that was pretty self explanatory, glad you figured it out
How to export my picker so that it can be used on another machine.
I do several scenes with one character.
How can I associate this picker with a model opened by reference?

how did you create the button to change from world to gimbal? thanks for the nice content :)
I don't think I did, did I? I don't remember doing that anyway :) Thanks for watching!
the video is just cut in parts wtf? I didn't understand nothing about the installation...

Not tested, you can give a try. I guess it is probably working.
