  • How can you get animation skills that will get you hired fast?
    Yes, you already know you need an awesome demo reel.
    And you’ve probably watched tutorials and taken part in challenges to improve.
    You’ve may have even taken a few courses or gone to school too.
    But with any of that - has anyone shown you exactly how close you are to making it?
    And has anyone ever shown you a clear path - a solid strategy for getting their fast?
    I want to share something with you that’s more important than any tutorial, challenge, or school assignment.
    I want to show you the big picture of how close you are to being hired.
    And a solid strategy for getting hired in months instead of years.
    For your animation career It’s probably the most important video you’ll watch all year.

    This is exactly what I figured out few weeks ago to improve my lacking body mechanics skills.
    And OMG it took 15 months(after 5 classes) to finally recognize my problem.
    Body mechanics is so complex as you said, and I got stuck after doing two acting shots with my low skills.
    I never did small exercises on my own, just did long animation shots and I felt there's wall that I had to break through.
    I'm taking a break for exactly 3 months to advance my skill set on my own.
    Thank you so much for the video! It gave me such a lot of motivation during my break!

    Thank you. I did a crash course on Maya which was great but didn't really know what to learn next. I knew my moving animations were stiff but didn't know how to fix it.

    I'm so in for the challenge! Currently 10 months into animation school, and we just started acting shots. I think my biggest struggle is overlap, timing, and spacing. Cleaning up my shots is probably the toughest part for me, so these little projects will hopefully give me a good chance to go about getting better at splining. I would LOVE to see more videos on this because right now I'm not super confident in my own work and I have about 8 months left of school. Also, any chance you would do demo reel/progress reel reviews?

    • @RustyAnimator
      @RustyAnimator  4 года назад

      A lot of times in school you move into acting before your really ready. Meaning your body mechanics is still need a lot of practice.
      to help Ill be releasing more videos about this and a new course.
      As for demo reel reviews, I get a ton of requests for them. So I do them for my Augmented Animator students and occasionally during live events. Wouldnt hurt for you to share your work in the rusty animator fb group though - i might give some quick thoughts and everyone else too.

    This is great stuff, I'll try these challenges. Funnily enough Alexander Williams (son of Richard Williams) is my tutor for my university. Nice to see you got the book haha.

    This is GOLD for anyone looking for an animation job! As an animator who's also sat in on demo reel sessions for new hires, I've seen so far too many demo reels with just upper body acting exercises. We passed over those 99% of the time because all it showed was that they were good at copying video references, but it didn't demonstrate they had any actual knowledge of body mechanics.

      Did it work?

    • @SmithRamone1
      @SmithRamone1 11 месяцев назад

      @@bobhill9845 It did for sure! I work as a 3D Animator now. I focused on what Rusty suggests in the video and that improved my body mechanics by a lot. However, what really skyrocketed my animation knowledge was taking his mentorship. It was overwhelming at first but I learned a ton from him and the other students. If you're interested in learning animation I definitely recommend having him as a mentor. His classes are catered towards your needs and animation goals contrary to most animation programs that have a rigid curriculum. Once I'm not that busy at work I plan to go back

    Not exactly a beginner since I have a few years of experience, but mostly in 2d. Been working on leveling up my 3d skills lately, in order to do the next step in my career and I got pumped to try a few of these exercises at some point. Side note, one of your students mentored me, so I know I'm at a good place here. Thanks for the info and value giving :)
