Garak and Dukat Hate Each Other

- Garak--plain and simple tailor--and Gul Dukat--not just any Cardassian--aren't exactly best friends. This video features the mutual loathing between these characters, masterfully portrayed by Andrew Robinson and Marc Alaimo, over the course of Star Trek: Deep Space 9.

"The man is a heartless, cold blooded killer."
"Like i said he's a Cardassian" 😅😂
Kira was savage 😂
And even though Dukat had a point, he was still projecting himself onto Garak!
These are my favorite times Garak roasts Dukat
"She has much better taste than to be attracted to you. You, a married man."
"You do have a lovely daughter. She must take after her mother."
The tragic thing is, I bet Garak spent the rest of his days after the end of the war tormenting himself on Cardassia as to why he didn't shoot Dukat when he had the chance.

Garak, Damar, and Dukat were that good. We should have gotten a spin off with just Dukat and Garak roasting each other.
for being known as a huge liar, garak sure did spit a lot of truths
As he said: Truth is in the eye of the beholder. And everything he said is true, especially the lies.
a great spy knows how to mix the two
These profound intra-species conflicts (along with that of Ferengi's) made DS9 my all time favorite
all part of the agenda
Ah, Garak and Dukat….2 of the best Trek characters ever written.. brought to brlliant life by Andrew Robinson and Mark Alaimo
All scenes are great, but the hallway scene is one of my all time favorites. Andrew Robinson played it perfectly with his facial expression. "I will try to keep that.. in mind" [looks left to right] 😃 4:06
Man, I just can’t stop enjoying these two constantly bickering with each other, it’s like watching a good ol’ slapstick comedy
Still, favorite line of DS9, You'd shoot a man in the back? Well its the safest way.
Garak can see through all of Dukat's bullshit. That's the main reason he despises him. Garak's reason for hating him cuts a little deeper. Dukat represents all the worst, base aspects of Cardassian society. He's a reflection of all of the bad things about his homeworld, and he can't stand it.
Dukat: Make sure you're aiming it at a Klingon.
Garak: They're the ones with the ridges on their foreheads, right?
[Julian ] - Even when you are friends ?
[Garak] Especially when we are friends !
gosh I'd had a similar idea and had started to make a similar compilation a long time ago and never finished it and this caught some references/moments I hadn't thought to include-so glad this exists!!
Of course they hate each other. Garak hates Dukat because he is a monster and Dukat hates Garak because he embodies everything he only pretends to be. First of all Garak is slightly smarter than Dukat but not as ruthless and therefore less successful. Garak is not above murdering people for what he believes is right but he is also willing to sacrifice his own life as seen when he tried to destroy the founders homeworld. Dukat only demands sacrifices from others but is not willing to lay down his own life. Garak accepts his own mistakes Dukat wants to be seen as a victim of circumstances.
By all means Garak is not an innocent man. Maybe he isn't even a good man but he is worlds above Dukat!
it's some of the same elements as the Kira-Dukat thing. both Kira and Garak are people who are distantly aware they're ~ supposed ~ to feel bad for the various incredibly brutal things they've done, and have never felt bad about them for an instant. Dukat, meanwhile, has been told he should not feel bad for any of the brutal things he's done, feels bad anyway, and so drives himself to ever-increasing heights of villainy trying to shut the voice in the back of his head saying "you're a monster and you know it" up.
at the end of the day, Garak looks at Dukat and sees someone too soft and egotistical to do his damn job, and Dukat looks at Garak and sees a weapon in someone else's hand.
Garak is quite possibly the most inteligent character in history of Star Trek. To me, rivaled only by Spock.
Garak and Dukat are 2 ends on the spectrum. Garak is highly self-aware and in touch with reality, whereas Dukat is almost completely delusional both about himself and the world/galaxy around him. Garak made no secret of the grey nature of reality and his own complicity in it, while Dukat truly believes that he is on the side of the angels, and does everything to maintain that delusion, no matter how unscrupulous.
Dukat was more successful for a time. When Garak was in Tains good graces he was one of the most feared and formidable Cardassians in the empire.
3:50 This is the closest line we will EVER get to "Having trouble to keep up with the Cardassians?"
1:46 that smile tho 😅
The Cardassian Tailor's exam must be deadly.
1:10 I love how Julian Bashir's actor says "I don't think he likes Gul Ducat very much," like he is embarrassed that the most his brain can come up with is that Garak is just that bitchy.
4:42 This is such a genius Star Wars reference xD
How uncivilized
I recently discovered Andrew Robinson wrote and narrated a DS9 audiobook
I don’t know why I smile at these characters, but I really love the show
Includes one of my favourite DS9 exchanges...
"You'd shoot a man in the back?"
"Well it's the safest way, isn't it?"
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
I see what you did there.
Well, Garak did torture and execute Dukat's father. But that's in the past. They're good friends now.
The Line ,and who is the leader of the Cardashian government, Galaxy Dakat, I LOST IT
can you imagine what dukats pah wraith bosses will do to him for eternity? I would say, compared to him... Garak got off lucky.
Garak always claimed that Dukat wanted to kill him which led him to defect to Federation in the first place. Not only this was never proven beyond reasonable doubt, but also knowing Garak and his honesty that could very easily not be true at all.
I am an unapologetic Cardassian sympathizer
They did nothing wrong
The people, their military government, the culture, or one of these individuals?
Second to none @@OuterRimPride
People are also nazi-sympathizers, so I guess you've got something in common
Great video compilation. And I especially liked your ending message. He is the Way and the Life.
To be fair to Dukat here, I also wouldn't be keen of my father's torturer, especially if he is dating my daughter 😂
I hate when people say they don't believe truth exits, it's like, is that a true statement or isn't it?
They were probably lovers 😜😜😜
Since we don't know Garak's story, we have don't know what his story with Dukat is.
It's hinted at their hatred towards each in the book A Stitch in Time. Extremely recommended it and plus the audible book is voiced by the actor of Garak. 10 out of 10
I swear that with Garak and Gul Dukat, DS9 >> GOT
I dont know why people are so down about Dukat .... he didnt do anything wrong after all . :)
Yes he did, he's a great character but he's evil.
Dislike for that Bible non-sequitur at the end.
@bb73071 I get enough bullshit from the Yahweh cults shoved in my face in my day-to-day as it is. I don't need irrelevant bits of their propaganda stuck to secular entertainment.
@bb73071Haters gonna hate, I guess
Ah hell. You were doing so well until you decided to proselytize at the end. What a shame.
Wow, way to trip and break your neck at the finish line -- this was a great compilation and then you tried to stuff your damn holy book down our throats. Get out of me.
Ha ha someone's easily offended. It's their channel they can post a verse at the end if they want. They were just giving thanks to God who is the reason they exist. Even the Star Trek characters are respectful of people practicing their religion, I don't know why you can't be.
Cry harder, hate monger
