    I used to use this station a lot to visit my Grandparents back in the early 90’s after we moved from Sheffield to Marple Bridge. Our train would often be late due to delays on the single track section, my Mum would bemoan that there used to be 2 tracks. It’s taken long enough but at least it’s finally been rectified just like giving it its full name again as it was shortened to Dore until a few years ago.

    Good to see a covered bridge. St Helens Central (which was rebuilt in the mid-2000s) has a uncovered bridge which replaced a subway (although to be fair, said subway wasn't the nicest of places).

    Can't stand Voyagers either. In all my journeys on them, I must have stood 85% of the time and, believe me, I have had loads of journeys on them. Last week I stood from Macclesfield to Stafford as my latest Voyager debacle. I found out, also, that buying a ticket at the last second as my brother did, earned him a free seat reservation on what was, as usual, a jam packed train. The trains are also far too short for the distances covered with not enough standard class seats. Unfortunately, their replacements may end up being just as bad but I live in hope.

    Brilliant to see Dore and Totley 2nd platform open . I remember the old Dore and Totley Station before it was wrecked in the Eighties. I can even remember in the late 70's when there was bad snow and the buses were barely running and the two disused platforms on the mainline were temporarily brought back into use. The waiting room in those days on the middle platform was quite something and would probably be listed nowadays. Just need to reinstate those platforms so trains to Chesterfield and south of could stop there as well. Doubt that will ever happen though Imagine Through trains from London and Plymouth stopping there what a time saver for people on the South West side of Sheffield

      A pair of lifts like these is around £100,000. For a small station?

    • @Barlofontain
      @Barlofontain Месяц назад

      It was a "soft opening" for the station, due to lots of delays, which obviously doesn't excuse the lack of step free access, but I work for the lift company and can assure you that the reason the lifts weren't in service was nothing to do with us.

    Many times our train need to be hold here to pass other services.
    But one advise to make videos even better: When You filming new station layout next time - can You film new junctions and track layout? (can be from train window)

    Was there about 7AM this morning and had a chat with one of Northern's community managers - turns out he was the person responsible for the colour choice on the footbridge! Apparently the locals took some convincing on it, with the original suggestion being for a dark green livery to match the trees on the far side of the MML

    Shame they didn't take the opportunity to create the platform to be accessible to Nottingham line or on the Manchester/Nottingham triangle to give the option of direct trains rather than having to go into Sheffield first. Guessing historically there would have been something there
