PRIDE TRAIN SIGHTING!!!!!!! YAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! AND THE APT OMG! What amazing trains! Also glad to see 2 pointless journey's in one! Walking between the 2 Headbolts and via trains!
Really enjoyed the pointless Journey, the freight line at Headbolt Lane is for wastle traffic to Knowsley Waste Terminal (can't remember the name) but also used to take trains to Kirkby Royal Ordence Factory, a station which was built during World War 2, didnt last long, only six years to passengers.
Such a shame they announced the station opening at short notice and the day after an ASLEF strike, otherwise a lot more people could have gone (including you!). Still, great video! ~ Daniel
This is just with the intentions of broadening peoples knowledge. Great video from Nick as always, though I have a few corrections/details that were missed/probably not known by Nick during this: Second platform on the Merseyrail side is due to the fact they will be running a "layover" type system at Headbolt, of course, also its for extensions further, but its currently for layovers. I believe Merseyrail is rebranding atleast to some extent as Mersey Metro, hence why the station has the logo. The "Other track" you mention around the 2 minute mark, was involved in some freight train running back when we had more industry around the area, no clue if its (the line in general, not just the section by headbolt lane) still in use. Though, if you look on google maps, you can actually see where there is a fork in the track just up a bit from headbolt lane, and it goes up to and into a warehouse of some kind. Southport - Hunts Cross is only served by 507/8s (at time of commenting) so Nick infact will most likely see a PEP when heading to South parkway. (Nick corrected this later on) The text correction about the doors is a little confusing, so, whilst your aboard a class 777 you can press the button even a second after they lock, and they will open at the next station. Kinda sounds like the correction was trying to say only if you pressed it recently, could just be a me thing though. Other comments throughout: Just wondering, did you have your ticket next to your phone by chance? (talking about when the tickets messed up at southparkway) every time my tickets mess up I've found its something to do with my phone, or just a coincidence that it happens when next to my phone. With the announcer at Wigan Wallgate, im surprised it wasnt already recorded years ago, especially with some former guards and drivers saying it Headbolt was on the destination slide before it was even electronic back in the day. Interesting fact: At Liverpool Central, the new Headbolt signage on the destination boards on the platforms is there but covered over still for some reason.
I've done three versions of that pointless journey now. Via Southport and Wigan; via Ormskirk, Preston, and Blackburn; and via Chester, St Helens Junction, and Wigan. Never thought of including Crewe (and I think South Parkway is still a station I've never been to and don't know where it goes)
Great video. Who knows? Perhaps, one day, those who are responsible for the transport infrastructure in this country today actually may decide to link Liverpool and Manchester directly by rail via Wigan with electrically powered trains; just like in those primitive days of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Now that would be progress.
Brilliant video Nick, it's so annoying when the sun gets right in your face lol. Don't even get me started on Storm Babet, I was disrupted getting home from work in Loughborough (not undisclosing where my place of work is), trains were cancelled, delayed and overcrowded. It's always good being at Crewe isn't it? lol.
Headbolt Lane station in Kirkby is very nice since it first opened. And the Merseyrail Class 777 trains that are now operating on battery power are also very nice. Very nice video Nick.
Loving the Nick and Nat double act, so natural together. Just one thought, why is there just not a through service? Seems odd that you have to change at Headbolt Lane, and Kirkby before that,
I asked that on another video about the new station. It seemed just odd to me that there was a 'disconnect' or 'break' between Merseyrail and the rest of the network. Apparently it is all to do with signalling. But you would think they would be a through route just for moving rolling stock say.
Hi Nick I have watched a few of your videos and enjoyed them, my good friend Geoff and myself did the Headbolt lane trip from Atherton a couple of months ago, but we went into Lime Street and back home that way! I can't seem to find on any of your trips from Lime Street out onto the Wirral, we have done this ourselve's many times, we go out to New Brighton on the Merseyrail and walk down to the Ferry then back across to Liverpool and walk over the road and catch the train back into Lime Street, also another trip we have done is from Lime Street on the Metro to Chester, then back on the train to Newton , we also do the trip to West Kirby, on a good day from the front at west Kirby the view across to North Wales is stunning, well worth a ride! great travelling !
Wikipedia can be bizarre as it is interesting. There is an article that lists all the Merseyrail underground stations. Saved me a little light digging.
Great video Does anybody know why the service between Crewe & Preston is hourly? Whatever time of day you travel these trains always seem to be full & standing.
I have a new suggestion for a new series of videos. Train,Bus comparison. So what do you do is you find two locations that have a train and bus route between each other. You take one and come back on the other and compare time & how similar or different the routes were to each other.
Nicely done, with a bonus Nat - would be interested in your impressions of the battery operation, how the train sounds differ on and off the third rail - and how was acceleration? \m/
the second Merseyrail platform was put in for when the service frequency increases to every 15 minutes, the plan is for a train to depart from one platform as another train arrives on the other platform.
Great video as always, however you could have gone via lime Street, and get a train to Wigan north western, walk to wallgate from there and grab a headbolt lane train. Shorter journey I know, but keeps it merseyrail/northern. Indo appreciate that you are doing it using as many operators/changes, but if it was done as a commuter style, then the shortest possible route is via lime Street and the two Wigan's.
Hi Nick, have you thought of undertaking a pointless journey from St Budeaux Ferry Road to St Budeaux Victoria Road. They are basically the same station just apart
i bet that announcment at wigan nth wester n said 'we are sorry that the 12:53 avanti west coast service to London Euston has been canceled, this is due to a memeber of traincrew being unavaliable,'
Could have been a how many TOCs is it possible to use video! Don't know enough about calling patterns to know whether a route with TfW or EMR was possible, though given the connections and cancellations it would have taken all day!
Thing is, you only need to go one stop to Fratton and then head back down. Although I suppose you could go further up the line and use the triangle at Hilsea, going towards Eastleigh/Southampton and then back down to Havant, or vice versa.
I do wish Northern were getting the 350's. Between them and 331's, it would give them a very modern electric fleet. Instead they are getting nearly 30 year old 323's (only 5 years younger than the 319's they are replacing).
I've done most of the journeys you did here, and I kept thinking "noo that's not the right way to do it". Completely forgetting the whole point of this series is to overcomplicate it
We don't have a St. Ives near Brum as far as I'm aware? If there is one that's news to me and I'm from around there (nearby in Worcestershire)! There is one near Cambridge though and apparently there's one in Dorset. And of course there's the one in Cornwall, which is the only one served by rail.
@@westmidlandstransport if you've not already, I believe you need to link your RUclips and Discord accounts on your Discord "Connections" tab. Once you've linked them, back on the Connections tab underneath your RUclips channel name it should say "Sub enabled servers" with mine listed and it should have a "Join" button
A shame that you weren't doing these pointless journeys in the 1960s* (yeah i know, stay with me on this). So many you could have done: Lincoln: St Marks - Central Wolverhampton: High level - Low Level. Hull: Paragon to Cannon Street. Luton: Bute Street to Midland Road. Leamington Spa: GWR to Avenue. The list could be quite long ! *I may have mentioned this before.
The other track by the Northern platforms are space for the freight trains to turn around to head into the industrial estate
and also so it can be used for possible future expansion to skelmersdale once they prove battery trains to be successful
🎉
Look it’s a Natt!
WOAH 🐸
He just said Edinburgh, but that’s the longest
WOW NATT❤
Extra points for getting Nat along! She always makes me smile 😂
Since I am a patronizer can I just say that having Nat along is a top tier perk so I deserve it!

Believe it is SUEZ recycling and recovery. Think it was also used for more freight back in the 70-90s but could be mistaken.
Don Coffey has a cab ride video from Wakefield to the Kirkby Waste Terminal, shows the runaround of the train when it arrives into the terminal
We no longer have Geoff & Vicki. But we have Nick & Nat!
Wow

Great video as usual Nick. My experience of being at Moorfields during working hours, like you were, it is normal that it is rather quiet
this was one i was excited for! you did kirkby to kirkby, now headbolt to headbolt!

These are one of the reasons I feel Happiness every day

Nick as a pointless journey you could do Deansgate castlefield Metrolink - Deansgate national rail
Enjoying your videos when Nat is with you
Nick you should do a pointless journey chester - chester tfw and then come back to chester using merseyrail

Here we go again....with the new station
I can get train straight to harbour lain and you should go to the East lancs railway since it's not to far from Warrington
Fun fact: the name pendolino Is from a few Italians Trains ETR 600 , ETR 460 , ETR 470 , ETR 450 and ETR 485 (i know this becouse im italian)

wut is a gourney 💀
More videos with Nat please. In fact, let's have one where she hosts and Nick is the sidekick! 😊
4 cars for Kirkby Headbolt Lane and Southport, 2 cars for Liverpool. Makes total sense Northern (sarcasm).
Should try a trip down south
portsmouth and southsea - high level - low level (or the other way around) 👌

What is the difference between the 350/1 and the 350/2 ?
Liverpool south parkway has high and low level platforms so that could be a future pointless journey

We need a pointless journey from Wigan Northwestern to Wigan Wallgate
Pointless idea: Edgware Road (Bakerloo) to Edgware Road (District)
wouldnt it be easier to go to liverpool central, then lime street then a train to wigan north west, then walk to wallgate and get a train to headbolt
got another video idea, St.Ives to St.Ives to St.Ives 2 near Cornwall, 1 near Birmingham
