Don't forget that the southbound Victoria line and Bakerloo line (to Waterloo) has a cross platform interchange at Oxford CIrcus
I wouldn't suggest going on the bakerloo line unless you absolutely have to lmao
theres also Victoria to Green park then jubilee line

Little tip but the quickest connection from KGX-WAT is actually to take the Victoria to Oxford Circus and then the Bakerloo. Cross platform interchange at OXC makes it the quickest route.
Totally agree, it's the way I used to do it.
Point to point idea- Oxenhope (KWVR) to Oxenholme (WCML) also involves a heritage line too.

Assuming you were weekday running, I’d have taken the Northern line to Bank and change there for the Waterloo & City line to Waterloo. It isn’t the faster way, but the Waterloo & City line is always fun.
That was another route I had in mind!
Never seen it open on Sundays. Looks like the W&C were intended for commuters and not for leisure.
As a purist, to keep it strictly train and not tube, you could have got off the LNER train at Peterborough, taken a Thameslink train to London Bridge, transferred there to a train to Waterloo East, walked through to Waterloo for your train to Poole.
Alternatively, you can go full whack to KGX, then walk to St Pancras for that Thameslink.
Great video as always Nick. Another interesting way to do this journey would have been to get:
Northern to Sheffield
EMR to Manchester
CrossCountry to Bournemouth
SWR to Poole
Cuts out London but still includes 4 TOCs.
Though I can't imagine 5 hours on a 220 Voyager would be particularly comfortable.
Having done the journey from Manchester to Bournemouth / vice versa more than once I can tell you that it is indeed very uncomfortable. Awful trains

Nice! Bournemouth is an amazing place. Since you bought a train ticket, do buy plus bus! You can go on the open top bus 50 and it’s quite cheap!
You could get the Victoria Line to Vauxhall, and then get the first train into Waterloo or Clapham Junction from there

If you do Shipley to Shepley as part of this series (a much easier one than this!), you'll have a chance to tick off Grand Central if you do the Bradford shuffle and take GC from Bradford Interchange to Mirfield.

One way to get to Waterloo without using the Underground is to catch a Thameslink service from St Pancras to London Bridge, then a Southeastern service to Waterloo East
Great video, Nick! Nice to see you used LNER and the ECML in this video to get down to London!
Sometimes it's nice to switch sides, which I still need to do with Avanti on a longer scale to get down to London!
With living on the WCML, the Avanti route is my easiest way down to London.
I'm still yet to do a trip on the ECML down to London to see how that compares.

There are other services that split and go half fast, half slow. The southern services from London Victoria to Southampton or Portsmouth and Bognor Regis are like that: they run all together till Horsham and then the front half runs fast to Barnham and then stops at a bunch of stations along the coast to either Southampton or Portsmouth, and the back half stops at all stations to Bognor Regis
Not on a Sunday, they don't 😅. The whole train runs to Barnham, and the front portion runs to Portsmouth (no Southampton work from London on a Sunday). The rear portion runs to Bognor Regis.
Idk why but seeing Basingstoke in these videos is really cool to me, as someone taking Waterloo and Portsmouth train to and from Basingstoke for college

If you include bus connections you could do Newcastle upon Tyne to Newcastle under Lyme
Yeah I suggested that once before I knew the place didn't have a train station. Which station do you think you should get off at and switch to bus a Stoke-on-Trent Longport or other?

P.S. I still think its wild that ‘the bridge’ on the ecml is like a 2 minute drive from my house!!
Funny tube route..... I'd have suggested Vic Line to Oxford Circus, then cross-platform interchange onto Bakerloo to get to Waterloo.
My point To point highlight was Liverpool Lime Street to London Liverpool Street, and then a short walk to, Lime Street EC3 travelled via Norwich.
Doing these only by national rail would make it more *interesting*, so no using the tube. For this journey you could walk to Euston and get the Overground up to Willesden Junction then go upstairs and down to Clapham Junction and onwards to Poole. OR you could get Thameslink from St Pancras to Denmark Hill then Overground to Clapham Junction that way. OR if you want to really go around the houses, Thameslink to Wimbledon, then back to Clapham Junction from there.
You could also take Thameslink from St Pancras to London Bridge and then go from London Bridge to Waterloo East, which has a direct walkway to Waterloo Main
Northampton to Southampton ? Hexham to Wrexham ?

Fun factoid: the new Pcadilly Line trains will be assembled at the Goole Rail Village.
With an hour to spare in London you could walk it from Kings Cross to Waterloo. Best way on the Underground is Victoria line to Oxford Circus then Bakerloo line to Waterloo.
Brilliant video Nick, it's a shame the Doncaster to Kings cross leg of the journey wasn't a 91 set lol.

A lot of trains on the old Southern Region split en route and go to different destinations. Some of the splits continue along the same route, but call at more stations as you've found

Poole - my home town. I was born in a house overlooking Branksome Station (2 stops before Poole). Looking forward to seeing what you get up to in my neck of the woods.

An idea for a future point 2 point - travelling between 2 stations that was once connected directly by rail but now you need to change elsewhere (Carmarthen to Aberystwyth for example). Keep up the good work.
I once bnooked an advanced ticket from Alfriston, Derbyshire to Southampton Central without checking the route... Ended up going Nottingham, St Pancras, Paddington, Reading, Southampton. The first train to Nottingham was 58 minutes late; I went to the Train Manager who sorted it out by signing my ticket, which enabled me to get any other train on the route. Ironically, the only train I had a reservation on, I ended up not sitting in my seat, as I spent the journey chatting to the Manager!
You could probably get in an extra point to point on the way home by doing Waterloo (London) to Waterloo (Merseyside)

As someone who takes SWR services for a number of things, it's kinda weird to see my commuter route 😅 shout out to my hometown for Basingstoke!
Nice. I have a good suggestion for point to point journeys Bank tube and DLR to Bank foot Tyne and wear metro

when at kings cross you should go to the further entrance to the underground from the station since it takes you straight down and is quicker, it is the original entrance and tfl make you take a longer route if you take the closest entrance. i love the vid btw.

With that hour to kill in London, you could have gone down the Northern Line from King's Cross to Bank, and straight to Waterloo via the Waterloo & City Line - Unless it was the weekend when you filmed this :)
Goole and Poole does rhyme. I wonder if there are other stations that has “ole”. Goole is where Siemens are building a new train manufacturing plant and to manufacture & assemble the new Piccadilly Line 202x tube stocks and possibly new tube stocks for the Bakerloo Line.
Interestingly, to get from Kings Cross St Pancras to Euston, it's possible to take a southbound Victoria Line train, or a northbound Northern Line train. I think it's that way round anyway. Jago Hazzard has a video on the subject.

Nice to see u down on the south coast, Southampton central is a station I tend to use a fair bit when I’m travelling. There isn’t many trains down here on the Isle of Wight though
Kings Cross St Pancras to Waterloo is one of those journeys that has about 10 different ways of doing it that are all pretty close on time. Personally, during the week, I'd go to Bank on the northern line just to get a go on the Waterloo and City line and go straight to the platform.
And now cental went to the beautiful Baker Street then jubilee line to Waterloo in a recent video too .
Hey nick, I live in Southampton, and if I'm travelling up north, from Waterloo I get the bakerloo up Oxford circus, and the Victoria to King's coss. Plus its Cross platform interchange at Oxford circus.
That must of been a long distance!

When you do have waterloo as your terminus station, make sure you make your way down to Salisbury, and I’ll show you around
Love a point to point. I'm sure I'm not the first to suggest, but have you considered doing Charing Cross to Charing Cross? It can be done with no out of station interchange or using TFL.
How about Charing Cross in Glasgow?

Continue on to Edinburgh on another train or possibly two.
Then there is a direct service from there to Charing Cross.

Problem with those Weymouth services is that they stop at a lot of stations between Winchester and Poole... So to getting to Winchester is pretty quick on XC and SWR but afterwards it's like being on a local train. I've done the XC service from Manchester Piccadilly to Bournemouth and that felt time had almost come to a stop by the time I got to Winchester.

Berwick to Berwick is an obvious but slightly dull Point to Point
Another idea:
St Margarets (South Western Railway, between Richmond and Twickenham) to St Margarets (Greater Anglia between Ware and Rye House)
You can recite the stations between Bournemouth and Wool to the tune of Baa Baa Black Sheep
I'd love if the Point to Point animation would change for every single journey. I know it would be a lot of work, but it would be really cool and a fun easter egg.
You should do Northumberland to Northumberland Park. Or Northampton to Southampton
You could have avoided London by going to Manchester and then Cross Country to Bournemouth doing the whole journey and a short hop onto Poole afterwards as an alternative trip
I live in Poole
Liverpool (or Blackpool either would do if you went via the east)to Hartlepool would allow you to get Grand Central under the belt by getting out at Northallerton or Thirsk or York.
