How about Osterley (Piccadilly line) to Frosterley (Weardale steam railway)? Would make for a pretty varied journey!

Assuming this is done on a Saturday (because the Weardale's weekday timetable doesn't serve Bishop Auckland, this is very easy: Piccadilly line to King's Cross 1W16 12:00 - 14:22 Darlington Bank Top 2D31 :55 - 15:21 Bishop Auckland 16:15 - 17:02 Frosterley.
For a bit more bite, I'm going to make an arbitrary rule that we can only pass through stations that contain the letter O. This takes place over a weekend, starting at 5pm on Friday:
      Osterley - Acton - Sudbury Town on the tube, Sudbury & Harrow Road 2R51 17:37 - 17:47 South Ruislip 114 :55 - 18:04 Ruislip Bus Station U1 :05 - :26 Uxbridge 724 :49 - :58 Denham village, walk to Golf Club 2W58 19:40 - :58 High Wycombe 1T59 20:16 - :25 Princes 2A61 21:08 - :11 Monks Risborough X9 :30 - 21:55 Aylesbury X6 06:00 - 7:17 Milton Keynes Central 1Y15 8:08 - :51 Long Buckby 96 9:13 - 10:09 Rugby 25X 11:20 - 12:13 Coventry 148 :17 - 13:06 Nuneaton 1N51 :16 - :31 Coleshill 1D64 :53 - 14:19 Burton-on-Trent X38 :40 - 15:13 Derby Cock Pit :30 - :36 Spondon 2A31 :55 - 16:26 Nottingham 90 :31 - 17:26 Newark 1F27 17:46 - 18:38 York NX436 4:15 - 5:20 Middlesbrough 2N03 8:32 - :43 Stockton X66 9:40 - 10:14 Darlington Bank Top 2D15 :55 - 11:21 Bishop Auckland 12:15 - 13:02 Frosterley

The reason the platforms are so long, are to futureproof - Worcestershire Council wants some of the longer distance XC services to stop at parkway eventually, and in fact, during engineering works, they have before, including the HSTs and 10 car voyagers.

Just my guess: I recon the reason the platforms at Worcestershire parkway are so long because the land for the station and the construction of longer platforms was probably quite inexpensive, it is likely a future proofing method in case the area saw big development and cross-country wanted to call longer trains at the platform. I would love to hear an official reason though if someone has one.

Hi, Nick. I suggest Louvres (RER D) to Louvre Rivoli and then Palais Royal Musee du Louvre.
Louvres station on RER D outside of Paris to the north is where I accidentally went to when I first visited Paris.
And of course, there are two Metro stations located next to the famous Louvre Museum in the centre of Paris.
You can combine RER A, C and D, suburban lines H and J, Trams 1, 3b, 5, 8, 11 and many Metro lines along the way.
Also, Gambetta (Paris Metro) to Gambetta (Lille Metro).
And it will be great if you could collab with Riku Fryderyk when you're filming in London.

If you want to go properly international, how about Kings Cross Underground in London to Kings Cross underground on the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line of the Sydney Trains network? Probably the longest possible P2P although some other form of transport could be needed to cover the wet bits.
      Brian.

Railway platforms always used to be really long, Nick - it's only been over the past 40 years that BR and its successors have been cutting them back and (often) leaving an outer end to return to nature...! If I'm not mistaken, they cater for all the train types that provide the services along line - or could do so in future; with a handful of places including Crewe, Preston and Carlisle having special dispensations for Caledonian Sleeper services, as these are in fact longer that any of their platforms, between London and Carstairs / Edinburgh Waverley! Small stations served only by local services may just be 3 - 8 cars long, depending on their age; Worcestershire Parkway on the other hand is likely to be looking ahead to when Cross Country eventually ditch the Voyager, and hopefully replace it with something less cramped! If you ever make it to Scotland's Parliamentary service between Dundee and Carnoustie, take a good look at Barry Links station, which doesn't just have closed platform sections stretching off to near-infinity; it also has extra-wide footbridges that allowed soldiers to march across them in their formations!! n Yet today it is served on weekdays only by one train in each direction - usually a 2-car class 158 or a 3-car class 170! And go to Perth, whose platform 4 is the longest in Scotland - long enough for trains of 23 Mk 1 coaches, no less! Perth must also be a contender for the most underused large stations too, with 7 of its original 9 platforms still in use - part of the two north-facing bays still visible, but long-since converted into a DMU servicing facility!

Why not do the Death in Paradise special. Southport to Southend as per Kris Marshall's character DI Humphrey Goodman when trying to get to his first wedding's stag do, after he misread the instructions. Otherwise all the Actons would be interesting, with eight to go for (7 in London & 1 in the North West).
