Pointless journey suggestion: Leytonstone to Leytonstone high road
Ruislip Manor to Ruislip Gardens is a good pointless journey and Aldgate to Aldgate east
@@Dani331 I always said he should do Catford to Catford Bridge.
@@AFCManUk yes but Geoff marshall did it ages ago
@@Dani331 I'm sure Nick would use a completely different route. He likes to go miles out of the way, lol.
@@AFCManUk yes he does he should do it in reverse
"Warham I" oh dear Nick don,t give up the day job. Good video as usual.
This is the day job!
"Seatbelts.....Wareham!"
One for the older listeners 😉
Enjoyed the 2 in one video, bonus point to point was good as well. CrossCountry did used to call at Brockenhurst but they sadly removed the stop, think it was done around the Pandemic
CrossCountry still stop at Brockenhurst. But on a limited basis
@@JackJackProductionsShorts Think around twice a day .
@@GabrielsReviews I think 1 quarter of the trains stop at Brockenhurst
Don't get that because it used to be easier access to Lymington and the Isle of Wight when travelling down from the midlands
That foot traffic level-crossing at Wareham was very similar to the one they used to have at King's Sutton (Just before Banbury) before the footbridge was built there.
Pointless Journey: Canterbury East - Canterbury West!
The slow trains don't call at Parkstone and Branksome, but the fast trains do ...
Yep, that's how we roll in Dorset.
EDIT - Did you know "Getting off at Fratton" is Naval slang for premature ejaculation? It's the stop before Portsmouth, and the Naval base, so the sailors didn't quite 'get there' ...
😨
No - that's Portsmouth Harbour! About three minutes to the dockyard gate - I've done it many times!
@@NickBadleyhi
I need to explore down South more. Haven't done lots of the SWML! Definitely an insentive now! Great video again!
We're friendly I promise
Upwey is the station to go to if you want to see the best parts.
7:38 point to point trains trip
As a local of Wareham, I've never even seen a 450 past Poole really so this is a rare occasion! Lol great video as always
Seatbelts Wareham?
He's here all year folks haha
Brilliant video Nick, passengers blasting music out loud on trains is the absolute worse.
Yes, public transport being let down by the public again. I also noted feet on seats. Aarggh
If you want a real challenge pick a very cold night just above freezing, Bristol to Rhumney ..leave Bristol Temple meads at 20:57 then you will arrive at Cardiff central at 21:36 and wait for nearly one hour ....THERE IS NO REFUGE FROM THE WEATHER . Waiting rooms closed , on the
night i went it was minus 5 !!
I caught hypothermia and a gastric chill and was ill for 3 days, SOUTH WALES TRAINS didnt want to know.
The challenge is to arrive at your destination well !!
Fareham far better than Fratton early morning as a few years ago I caught the southern train and had a bad experience at Fratton !!! all all the toilets were closed and I was told I should have gone on the train !! It was about 5:45am !!
Thanks!
Thank you!
Yeah some other train routes I recommend in the area are: 1. the circular (kind of) from Romsey - Eastleigh - Southampton - Romsey - Salisbury.
2. The part of train route between Fareham and Eastleigh.
3. Basingstoke - Reading there are two operators one dose all stop service and one is a first train.
I live in South east of England southern have quite a few train routes that that you have to be in the correct carriage because the train will be too long to stop at a platform or it will separate and divide.
i’ve see a few 450s at dorchester, i too never knew they ran this far down the line but every now and then i get a surprise!
It only seems to happen when I'm not between Poole and Weymouth 🤣
Great video, Nick! Interesting variety of trains between the two stations!
I gotta admit I do like the Electrostar, they remind me of the Turbostar's too!
A good point to point would be bromley north to bromley south
I Need To Go To Portsmouth Now Since He Said It In His Title.
I love Portsmouth
Cosham my local station great vids mate
one good thing living at the end of the line in Weymouth when you get on at Waterloo you get a good 2 hours sleep. Oddly i always wake up as it goes over the points at Dorchester. as local sadly i knew you were getting off at Wareham. the foot crossing at wareham has barriers and alarms as people have been known to stroll in front of the departing trains. you can also get a bus down to Swanage for the steam railway. Maybe come back in the summer and ride the saturday special to Corfe Castle.
450's do indeed go all the way to Weymouth (not sure how often though) I was once on a 9-car 444/450 formation out of Weymouth once.
Which was nice.
How come the current draw from two units operating in multiple didn't trip out the circuit breakers on the gruelling 1:50 ascent of Bincombe Bank?
@@KempSimon They can work like that but not often.
Thanks Nick for another great video, loved that the point to point was added in , more please.
Great video and a lovely journey, although if you had started your journey at Dorchester West, that coukd have saved you the GWR wait in Fratton and added a pointless journey to the point-to-point with Fareham/Cosham.
Opted not to do that due to it being only 2-hourly and doing so would have left me with much longer waits.
did the journey to portsmouth many times in my navy days
Really like the videos. Have a suggestion for your point to point series, warterloo(liverpool) to warterloo(london).
It's only after watching your videos have I realised, how little of the UK I've visited. Great Video!
Point to point suggestion.
Bishopstone(seaford) to bishopstone(Buckinghamshire)
Excellent video with the bonus point to point
A slightly different point to point would be Cosham to Bosham, which despite the similar spellings, are pronounced totally different
Love ur pointless journeys videos there amazing love ur new video been watching you since 2023 ur content really cool great job man!
I am glad you got to, albeit briefly, visit my home station of Cosham!
I got crapped on by a pigeon walking into Fareham station. And then on the train to Bristol Chris Packham was sat adjacent to me.
Another excellent video Nick, how are you finding it down here in the South ?
450s rarely go past Poole. The reason is because the electricity supply towards Dorechester limits the train length to a maximum of 5. Obviously, 5 car trains are much longer than 4 (because each coach themselves is longer on a 5 than a 4). Because it's a busy route, SWR try to use the 444s on the route to maximise space for passengers, because the equivalent 8 car 450 formation is forbidden. It is rare, but 450s can go down to Weymouth, but only as a 4 car and that sucks!
You should try it with the London Underground
You could have included a GWR train from Weymouth to Upwey and then the SWR on to Bomo and done things in a different order.
Was at Eastleigh today!
Slightly different idea: Could you try to take every different train from Ramsgate to London in one day?
If I'm right in thinking, there are technically 3, if you separate SEHS from normal SE, then TL?
@@davidparsons97 I'd argue more than that. 3 different HS routings, plus Charing X via Tonbridge, Victoria via Maidstone E, Cannon St rush hour service via Chislehurst and Rochester - sure I've missed something \m/
Great video! You went through my local station!
Looks like a long journey with the extra stops. It's sometimes easy to forget that cross country come down to Bournemouth.
Used to go to Poole!
@@TrainsOfDorset didn't know that.
Great vid
You finally made it to Wareham!
My local station is fareham 👌
BTW, you should do Cosham to Bosham and then Barnham to Warnham to Farnham.
Farnham to Fareham would be a cool one as well!
Brilliant vid as always. While you’re down here I must recommend you try heading down to Swanage. Norden station which is one of our terminus stations is a 15min bus ride from wareham
I didn't know GWR went to Portsmouth
Portsmouth - Bristol - Cardiff. 👍
Amazing video Nick!
Nice video
Point to point idea: Bootle (Liverpool) to Bootle (Cumbria)
He already did that I think
You could almost have accidentally done Cosham to Bosham as well, there - which the locals pronounce as Buzz'um, but then, older Pompey folks also talk of Cossum! Back in the days of Connex South Central, trains ran between London Vctoria, Southamton and Bournemouth's Platform 1, by the way. I didn't know it existed until then train I was on terminated there, either! Now I have a feeling that Portsmouth to Southampton via Eastleigh is a permitted route too, as there used to be the odd token train routed that way to serve the airport, butI may be wrong. Could be worth investigating though...
"cosham, great!" - the first time that sentence has ever been said without a heap of irony
also you could have got the GWR bristol-pompey train from fareham no need for the extra leg to cosham, nor indeed why to stop at town rather than go all the way to harbour it's only short and they're the same ticket fare!
I wonder if another way to make these sort of challenges more ridiculous would be to define it as using different services instead of different operators while still travelling in a direct route.
So in this case starting at Weymouth with a "Bristol" train to Upwey, then a "London" train to Bournemouth, then a "Manchester" train to Southampton, etc...
I was expecting you to get GWR to Dorch West then walk to Dorch South to get SWR, but clearly you wanted to spend as little time on a 150 as possible 😂😂
You could do: Weymouth > Poole > Basingstoke > Reading > Gloucester > Westbury > Portsmouth
Pointless journey north Berwick to Berwick upon tweed
Edit: I have a route north Berwick-Edinburgh-CarlisleWC Carlisle-Newcastle Newcastle-Berwick upon tweed
Convoluted journey series.
Nick, you getting on the Cross Country train at its starting point in Bournemouth with all the choice of seats is a good idea for a new journey concept - Travel from one city to another, but changing at every station where you can board an originating service. So travelling from Weymouth to London you could change onto starting-point services at Bournemouth, then Southampton Central, Portsmouth Harbour, Horsham, Three Bridges and then East Croydon.
Every time it’s an originating train where you have (in theory) a favourable choice of seat ;-)
You missed out Poole and if you done Lymington Pier then Brockenhurst as well
Point to point suggestion: Loughborough to Loughborough Junction.
point to point wick to hackney wick
You're in my area now, should have carried on to Portsmouth Harbour and then taken a ferry to the Isle of Wight. Or maybe you did!!!!
Come to Salisbury and say hello! I work there
On Monday 12 February 2024 I did a pointless journey from Oudenaarde Track 1 to Oudenaarde Track 1 by first taking the IC train to Courtrai and the IC to Brussels via Ghent but there was a defective train on that line and we were diverted via Denderleeuw to Brussels but there was a delay of 10 minutes and I only had 15 minutes in Brussels so we decided to go to Denderleeuw and there take the train back to Oudenaarde 😊
Ohhh man, next week I’ll be visiting Brussels for a few days (visit there pretty regularly) and will definitely spend some time looking around the 3 main stations on the north-south connection to take in the vibe. Also will go up to Antwerpen at least once
Do Gillingham to Gillingham for point to plant
I think I also suggested this area, or similar to that 😅
Do Paddington to bouremouth
class 450
Here's a point to point for you, Nick - Waddington, Lincs, to Warrington, Cheshire - but not wbq - Warrington Central!
Wigan (North Western) To Wigan (Wallgate)
Do you note down the unit numbers at all Nick?
How come you didn't continue to Portsmouth Harbour? Good video.
450's going to Weymouth its pretty rare. You was very lucky lol
450 class do escape to Weymouth occasionally so you were lucky on this trip to ride on one of them
Pointless Journey: High Wycombe to Marlow. 10 min car journey but 1.5 hours on train
You could have ticked GWR off sooner by catching a Heart of Wessex service from Weymouth to Upwey... might have messed up your schedule though!
I'd love to go to the south west/southcentral area but it takes 5 + hours to get there along the coastway lol does only cost £12 tho
Gillingham (Kent) to Gillingham (Dorset)? 👀
Which train on South Western Railway is your favourite. Class 450 or Class 444. I would have to say Class 444. And I have been on the Class 444 Desiro to Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central and Bournemouth.
Pointless journey: St Pancras (Thameslink) to St Pancras (East Midlands Railway)
Kings cross - St Pancras pointless journey when?
Hey Nick, do Yeovil Junction - Pen Mill pointless journey
Isn’t much point as there is a direct rail service between the two
Pointless Journey Suggestion
Kensington Olympia (District Line) - Kensington Olympia (Southern/Overground)
Also what do think about the New Overground Line Names?
Orrrrr you could use just SWR.
I think you should have started the video outside of the station at Weymouth and ended with outside the station at Portsmouth
Can u go to New Milton statoon for 1 Tomorrow afternoon as I am based around there and I want to meet you
Idea for pointless journey, Earls court (Piccadilly line) to Earls Court (District line)
Great video. I’m going to York soon. Any tips of things to do?
Check out the National Rail Museum if you haven’t already!
Will do thanks :)@@InkItOut
Hello!
Pick a number between 1 and 2? There aren't any.
How many stations do you go past I would like to know
Pointless journeys : Ashford (Kent) to Ashford (Surrey).
How do I get in the discord server I am a member but can’t find the link
I believe in your Discord "Connections" tab you need to connect your RUclips account to your Discord. Then it should appear in there
Point to point: Ryde Pier to Guide Bridge, or vice versa (yes, I know you'll need to get a ferry).
Where's that spreadsheet?
Linked it in the description!
@@NickBadley Cool - Do you have separate lists for all visits and just those shown on RUclips?

why and how are there comments from 20+ hours ago
