- I traveled to more than 5 Dealerships to show you guys what current inventory and easily identifiable discounts look like. Not only are interest rates super high right now but MSRPs have gotten out of control. Thankfully many of the dealers are finally coming back down to Earth on their pricing below MSRP.

Between overpricing, higher interest rates, and dealer mark ups, no wonder why people aren't buying.
Absolutely! It’s looks like each business is trying to make the most profit possible, and when they all do this independently we end up with 100k V6 trucks with cloth seats following the financing and interest charges lol.
😅only a moron would pay over msrp
And Insurance !
Unless people quit paying the high prices nothings gonna change and vehicles are still overpriced everywhere. Even a discount of a few thousand dollars is still to high when your still paying more than what it’s worth. People need to stop if we wanna get back to any kind of normal. If we don’t buy them prices will half to eventually come down but people are irresponsible and if the dealers can get there payment low enough they will jump all over it. It’s rediculous
Here's the thing, if people keep paying, then the vehicles aren't overpriced, we're just too poor! The numbers don't lie, though, the prices don't remotely match incomes so at some point, buyers "should" dry up and a realistic market "should" return. But I smell government bailouts around the corner unfortunately so who the heck knows anything anymore!
I think a lot of folks can't afford a house or condos so they spend their savings on cars. It also makes them feel better as they spend more on a car.
Totally agree very well said.
Right? Prices went up by like 25+% in a year or two. Now that they’re giving a few thousand off people are ready to buy again?! We deserve these stupid prices. The worst part is, the majority of people buying these trucks are only using them to look cool.
I guess you don't look far enough my local Subaru dealer has nothing over MSRP and actually well equipped trims selling under MSRP depending on the model...
I'd never pay 66K for cloth seats... High interest rates plus tighter lending standards equals lot rot!
Absolutely, I never imagined I’d see such poor truck values.
You don't know what high interest rates are. You can't get FREE money forever
@@WhittyPics That's for sure! In 1974 I bought a $25k house, and assumed the mortgage of the seller, which was 12.9%, as the going rate was 15-16%. My last new vehicle I bought, 1987 Nissan pickup, was $8,000, and with 60 months interest, $13,200. The presidents at those times: Ford (R) and Reagan (R)
@@MassReelFishingAgree, but estmate more like 40%. Trucks used to be cheaper than cars, but as more people started to use them as daily transportation, and they became more popular, they started raising the profit margin. It used to be about 10%, now about 40%.
People be buying these trucks then complaining they can’t afford groceries. Pfff
Bingo. With $1000 phones. It’s ridiculous. They want to live like famous people who get all that crap for free.
Well then they are not buying a grocery getter in that case. They can't afford to eat. Lol
I guess that after the recent strikes and labor negotiations the manufacturers are having to increase the price by another $10,000 at least. I’m happy that I’m an old guy and have a good truck that should last for the remainder of my life.
IMO - The CEOs never lower their pay or perks.
This is real journalism! Thanks for walking the lots and keeping us informed. Subscribed!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I use to love checking out car lots on the weekends/evenings on occasion while in high school and college. I only recently started making some videos of that experience, in the midst of my normal car review videos. Thanks for subbing and sharing your appreciation/interest in this type of video! 😀
My 1980 Ford F-150 shortbed still works just fine, 300 inline 6. I would buy an older truck but they are rarely for sale☹️
That sounds like a good ole truck!
Where I live a 1980 truck would be rusted to dust by now.
That 300 is bulletproof doesn't have a timing chain, just 2 gears like they all should be made.
@@michaelprenoveau5335New Mexico or Arizona
Do you live in New Mexico or Arizona??
Cloth seats V6 $60k+ trucks 😢
🤢 🤮
As bad as the prices are, buyers don’t realize how much they really can’t afford these vehicles by the numbers with their income. Extending loans beyond 5 years to reach a payment you can “make” is a red flag that you cannot. A local dealer recently advertised a new Chrysler 300 limited edition for sale. The price was listed at $56,595, and estimated payments at $725 with 10% down payment for EIGHT years. It’s preposterous!
From what I have heard, Ford punishes dealerships for adding market adjustments (as they should) so what the dealers do is assign a name to them ( i am guessing an employee) and they put a small amount of miles on them and then sell them used with the massive market adjustment.
I’d be afraid to buy anything from Stellantis, which owns Ram, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep
Agreed! Even if reliability and electrical issues weren’t so prevalent. With most of their Hemi power plants disappearing, I’m not very interested in an even less reliable Stellantis that doesn’t at least rumble, lol.
I really like these update videos keep up the good work.
Thanks! I’m glad you’re still enjoying them. I’ll try to keep visiting more places and making them. 🙂
The worktruck 2 door being 47k is absurd omg
Haha right?! That should be like 32k IMO. I recently drove one and have an impromptu review I’ll post in the next few weeks. It looked just like this one. I was filming a 0-60 on GPS comparison of all 4 engine options in 2024 Silverados (posted a few weeks ago) and when I drove the regular cab turbomax it was fun enough I added a driving experience video. Just FYI, at a bit of altitude it still ran a 7.0 0-60 and was the second fastest truck tested that day, not bad. 🤷♂️🤪
Perfect time for prices to come down, rolling into the spring!
That big chrome "grilz" on the Tundra🤣 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Lol 😂
Recent model used trucks were purchased with a huge covid premium on initial purchase so they owners were immediately upside down and with 12 to 24 months gave the trucks back or were repossessed and are now on dealer lots for sale . Poor purchasing decisions with the federal government COVID money in their pockets. Now gave these high monthly payments back to lenders!!
Merry Christmas, Bud !
We had a blast in Hawaii !
It was 74 degrees when we got on the plane at 11pm and it was 33 degrees when we arrived at SeaTac . 😢
Merry Christmas Doc, that sounds like a delightful time. Glad you guys traveled safely. 😎
You as a consumer should pay the price of inefficient manufacturing processes and Union labour who does not want to work but ways to get paid. Pay for CEO bonuses…. They all run successful businesses on your back as a consumer
Been hearing this BS for the last few years. Yet prices have remained high and continue to see plenty of new vehicles on the road !
That’s a good point, but a lot of current vehicle models have been in their current generation for 3-5 years so it’s difficult to know when those vehicles were actually bought. For example 2019 was the last new complete generation for those Silverados and Rav4s. 🤷♂️
Exactly Mike…always hearing about the impending doom, even a broken clock is correct twice a day 😂
I would love to buy a new 1-ton diesel 4x4 truck. But I cannot justify spending the prices they are asking. I would need to see an increase in my pay 2-3x at my current job b4 I consider purchasing one.
Same! I would love the Raptor R I just reviewed lol, but likewise it’s practically unattainable. 🤷♂️ 😊
Those Diesel trucks are not even worth the price. I just saw a 2023 getting a new 6.7 powerJOKE engine under warranty.
I have a 2016 tundra I got from New. (Canada) It is an awesome vehicle & I love it. It has never broken down... 267000 km. There is only one issue: these trucks are bad on fuel when towing. I want to wait it out a couple more years then get a new or near new diesel truck to keep for the remaining years to last me out because hell will freeze over before I drive an EV. Govetnment interference is screwing up the market & what us left of UT is dying under the weight of the stupid covid money printing inflation.
With the drastic escalation of MSRP that the manufacturers are posting they’ve lost their appeal. I bought my now paid for 2017 Platinum Powerstroke for a staggering $70k brand new. My financial plan for such an expensive vehicle was to cost it out over 20 years. I’m well on my way to that 20 year goal with the outrageous MSRP of current pickups. I have zero desire to even look at them as I know the utter disgust I’ll feel when trying to strike a deal. If I could buy a new 2024 Platinum for $70k I would. But we all know that’s absolutely laughable.
Will it last 20 years ?
70k for a truck. Not a chance for me
Is the Toyota Foreigner replacing the Toyota Immigrant?
Hahaha 😂 hey it was 20 degrees out and over a mile of elevation. But yes, it probably would.
great video
It was a fun one to make and see what’s out there, I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Thanks
Everyone says that the Lunar Rock is Grey, but I see a light Green and I like the color
What people are also not thing about is. You may afford the price of the vehicle and the payments. Yet. After you sign the paperwork and drive the vehicle off the lot. You have in most states two sets of taxes to pay. Sales tax and state tax. The state tax will only go down around $100 per year until it hits the states bottom limit. My 2020 truck. Taxes were around for both. Just over $3,000. That's in 2020. My second year was just over $900. To have plates on my truck. So I can drive it on the road. Then payments and insurance. Buying any new vehicle is extremely expensive. In taxes alone. Would I buy ever another new vehicle. Nope. It took me 50 years to buy this new one. Huge mistake. I could have spent the money somewhere else. My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I paid cash. $4,000. 138,000 miles on it. Still runs amazing. I bought it going on 8 years ago. Only $2,000 in parts since. Like a new windshield. New shocks and struts. New brakes and routers. New tires. New aldonator. New radiator fan. Head and tail lights. New top radiator hose. A new thermostat. And a new heart core. Outside tune-ups. I get a huge of a deal. The fixing of the Jeep was cheaper than the first time taxes on the truck. Think about it before buying new. Can you afford just the first time taxes that comes with it.
Where I live right now our dealerships are selling their cars, Trucks, SUVs and even the real estate is doing better than the rest of the country. It's pissing me off because I wanted another 4Runner and they're not willing to sell under MSRP . One of the two Toyota dealerships still has dealer mark ups in some of their vehicles. The Dodge dealership had over 40 Ram Trucks (1500, 2500 etc) on their lot mid November.. They now only have 18. They had 3 used Jeep wrangler 392. They're all gone within 1 month.
So I don't know which one to believe. They claim dealerships cant sell their inventories and yet I see their selling like waffles. All I know is I might have to go out of state to get a new 4Runner at a descent price.
I just visited Vegas and California. The dealers inventory and willingness to make deals seems to vary at each town/city, which doesn’t help your or my confusion. I made a video for Vegas which I’ll publish publicly soon. Full inventories, but every new vehicles has add ons or “market adjustment”. Im talking 75k for a 2 door Ford Bronco or 24k for a Nissan Versa, lol. I’m unsure if I’ll have time to make a video here in Cali, but some of the dealers are literally overflowing with trucks all about 2’ apart, but I haven’t looked at pricing (just noticed in passing through).
I think you could say the same for the EV market.
Yeah probably, at least all the non Teslas! Seriously, why does this one dealer have almost 10 Mach E’s lol.
2 years of videos like this on RUclips and still no crash.
Oh really they’ve been out that long? I personally only discovered this topic a few weeks ago. Hopefully, it’s coming soon because I don’t see how these asking prices are sustainable. I just visited Vegas (I’ll publish the video soon) and literally every new car at the Automall (20 different dealerships) have add ons on the new stuff, some additionally even have up to 15k “market adjustment” on American brands. That’s not sustainable…. 🤷♂️ 😞
A thousand cars a day are getting repoed. GM is laying off 1300 people this month. The dealer lots are full
Zero down means BEND OVER, Valued Customer, because we’re about ready to Screw you and when we’re done with you, we’ll pay you on your butt as we watch you drive away and be stuck with payments you can’t afford for 8 years.
The salesman and the dealership giggles in knowing that you have kissed your own butt goodbye
All of these super low milage almost new cars have to be a scam of some sort. Not too long ago used vehicles were more exensive than new, and I suspect dealers where selling new cars to employees or other associates to rebuy and flip. Maybe I have some things wrong, but I live in similair sized city in SD and was pricing out new and barely used cars for a year or two. There are just way too many of those suspicious listing at many dealerships for there not to be some kind of scam going.
Yeah, something fishy is going on for sure! The larger city I recently visited had a much larger percentage of new vehicles than the towns in my last couple videos with more barely used inventory.
I heard something about dealers selling the vehicle's to upper employees of the dealership and they drive a short time then sell back and that way they sell them as used and mark them up from that point with no repercussions from manufacture
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208
As a long time fanboy of Toyota, I would like to say that they have lost their mind with pricing their cars.
They turned into a manufacturer where you pay for the name while offering you less
@@user-ej9pr5ly8v True and the sad part is that most people are too stupid that they will still go and buy at these price, driving up the price more and more...

Oh wow, yes I did lol. RAV4 Hybrid is what was meant to be said. Good catch and I think you’re the first to notice that, so thanks for calling it out! My excuse is it was 20 degrees out and a mile of elevation. So not my best verbally pronounced ‘one take’ video for sure lol.
Can't afford ANYTHING that any automaker is selling these days! Guess they will either stand or fall without me paying those inflated prices. When or if they come down, I will consider buying new. Otherwise, a used car will be my method of transportation.
Its because they wont get in trouble with manufacture over pricing of used cars. So they use them for a while so they arent bound by msrp
My maverick was 24500 after add-ons I love it, have to say the Cyber is a better buy
Wait till your transmission goes out. I've seen several 2021 and 2022 models with blown transmissions. Lol
I just don't see the value on what they're asking
CARMAX still way way overpriced..
10:15 most accurate
For sure! I’ll be honest though, I really like regular cab trucks. I did a gps 0-60 comparison video of all 4 engines offered in the 2024 Silverado 1500 just a few weeks ago, I also have an impromptu review of a reg can turbo max similar to this. But I haven’t made that one public yet. Lol. 😝
It could be the newer the trucks are, the bigger piece of junk they are. Most everyone I talked to with a new Tundra doesn't care for it. The rest said it's not near as good as the old Tundra. Cheap and problems with it was the biggest complaints. All the cars and trucks are ruined by so much technology. Technology ruined my 2020 Camry, the car confused itself causing it to do weird things all the time. Except the hot antifreeze smell. Cheap garbage and bad engineering caused that.
F'n sad what they did to the once great , Tundra !!
@@indycharlie Yeah. "sad" is being nice. Toyota used to be the best but even the new Camry's are junk. I think all the manufactures are putting out junk compared to a few years ago.
All these new vehicles are junk. Even the tundra

People are over it
New vehicle prices are gross. I am thankful that people keep buying them, because that's where the used cars come from that are in my price range lol.
Certified pre owned means NOTHING. They are just slapping on the price of an extended warranty to the price. The 10% price loss when you drive it off the lot only applies when you trade it in.
And on top of all these crazy prices, I've got to pay over 6% sales tax and $25/$1000 excise tax! Buying used, thank you.
From what other news sources have speculated, less that 20% of the current automobile car buying public can afford new or less than 5-year-old rides. I assume that a large number of dealers in 2024 will close.
That’s a wild statistic, it will be interesting to see what the next few years look like! 😬
By LAW the tires/wheels that came on truck as listed on the Monroney label are the property of the person buying it.
Do you know if that’s a federal law or the state law in your area? It would appear hardly any dealerships know the law, at least when it benefits them lol.
How many more “ trucks just aren’t selling” do we need?
That’s a good question, lol. I’ve been doing that almost like a series of going to new towns to see what their inventory and pricing look like. But also to raise awareness that people need to be cautious to not buy over priced vehicles and from dealers who aren’t honest or transparent and offer legitimate deals.
...Snow Catchers Truck Lot .... Park'em Warch'em Fade.
It makes no sense. This has to come to a head at some point.

Thankfully dealer installed stickers can easily be removed with a hair dryer to warm up the glue and then they peel right off. 🙂

I make over 100k and I adamantly refuse to buy a truck that is more than half my annual salary, nuts.
That’s an awesome salary! And very wise, it seems to matters less how much you make but how much you keep (save, invest, give). And paying for one of these over priced behemoths doesn’t seem to allow most people much left to enjoy in those other ways. 😞
I am near San Antonio and especially the Toyota dealers are pretending that things are fine and they are not giving any discounts
That’s unfortunate. ☹️

I appreciate you sharing! Sorry to hear that your experience wasn’t better. 😞
Good. Thank the maker trucks aren't being sold any more. People don't need these humongous things. 90% of modern pickup drivers use them as commuter vehicles. It's a waste of space, fuel, resources to make it, and in the end MONEY. You buy it because you like it that's it.
Listen, manufacturers can only get high MPG scores the bigger the vehicle they make, so they make giant trucks. They get like 18 mpg! Then the manufacturers come back and charge you more because they put more metal in it to make it!!!
It's no wonder that vehicles like the Ford Maverick and Chevrolet Trax are so appealing and can't stay on dealer lots. They're the only cars people can actually afford. You would think that with the excessive amount of full-size trucks rotting on their lots, they would be bending over backwards to get rid of them by offering steep discounts to make room for new ones. If I'm not mistaken the longer a vehicle sits, the more insurance the dealer itself has to pay for it to continue sitting so I would think selling it quickly to make room for new ones would make more financial sense. And they make more profit that way. But what do I know?
It just baffles me that bare-bones work trucks are typically over $50K when they used to be at least under $40K a few years ago. A well-equipped version now is well over $80-100K when those were the $50K versions a few years ago. Terrible times we live in! Just for perspective, $92,000 was our house 25 years ago. Brand new 3 bedroom, 2 bath with a 2-car garage but now that sadly just gets you a basic or mid-trim Ram 2500 HD 😠 Nowhere close to getting you a house nowadays!
Well said, and I’ve also noticed a lot of those more affordable AWD vehicles selling well. I know we need to keep context of what 92k in each year is truly worth, but dang, isn’t that a sad comparison lol. 😂
They are as much as my first house . 30 years ago
All I want is a new truck like the 2011 ranger 😢
When in the last 100 years has INFLATION come down and Cars returned to lower prices???
It's not gunna Happen!!! They will not lower the prices like we need them too!!! A good deal can pop up but nothing compared to 5 years ago except for a major issue like VW had with their emissions debacle. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Wish it would.
That’s a good point! I’ve also been hearing that Cummins might have a similar emissions compliance issue with almost 1 million of their engines… 🤪
Don't buy it. The same happened here in Europe with the prices. Prices went up and therefore the quality went down.
Have things in Europe gotten any better or leveled out yet? Thanks for sharing!
We should boycott all these ”Stealerships”

68000 not 86000 on min 20 in your video. You read it completely backwards
Thank you for that correction! I blame the cold and elevation lol. 🙃
Yep I would too. More the elevation probably
80% of people don't need a truck (or an SUV for that matter). Full size sedans aren't as common as they used to be, but you can get them for soooo much cheaper. Auto makers have been coming out and explicitly stating "we make all our money on SUV's/trucks" for the past several decades. Do consumers know what that means? You're overpaying relative to other models. Might be time to start looking around for alternatives.
You’re absolutely right, not only are their margins much better on trucks/SUVs, but it also helps them slip by EPA/CAFE MPG regulations a little bit easier.
