The Truck Market Finally COLLAPSED. And Buyers are DONE Overpaying!

- I traveled to several dealerships to show you guys what current inventory and easily identifiable discounts look like. Not only are interest rates super high right now but MSRPs have gotten out of control. Thankfully many of the dealers are finally coming back down to Earth on their pricing below MSRP.

I was once buying a vehicle from a stealership and the guy at the closing table handed me a card for "FREE" oil changes for a year I think it was. I said I live too far away and won't be driving here for a "FREE" oil change and do them myself anyway. He said well take it anyway, you never know. When I was going over the paper work there was a $400 fee with some strange verbiage. I was like, what is this $400 for? He said some stupid stuff and said everyone pays that. I was like What is it for? over and over until he finally said it was for the "FREE" oil changes. I was like take it off or I'm walking. We went back and forth and I should have just walked but I was like an hour and a half in the process and they finally took it off. What a scummy way to do business.
I wonder what percent of consumers pay attention and hold their ground like you did.
Similar situation here but they were adding windows, tires and windshield for "free" but you had to still pay a deductible
Good for you for being vigilant in identifying what you were being charged for and then for holding them accountable!
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Yeah I hate all the added fees and crap so i go over all that with a fine tooth comb and try to get them to remove or pay for them them selves. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't. It was the finance guy I was dealing with. When I walked out of the office and saw all the people waiting I said look at your paperwork folks and look for the $400 fee for the free oil changes they are scamming you on. The finance guy was pretty pissed at that remark but they deserved it.
So many of the stealerships I talked to were trying to rip me off. I think the key is not getting excited and expecting anything more than frustration. Or, get a Tesla or Rivian. The price is the price.
I wouldn't pay $50k for that Bronco......
That's 25k over what I would pay for a essuvee. If it had a V8 or if it got better than 23mpg I'd think about it... But 15 and a turboshitbox ? Double no thanks!
Seriously man. I know I’m old and ignorant but I just cannot separate the idea of a 3 or 4 cyl engine from the term Econo-$hitbox. These people are nuts paying anything over $25k for a vehicle with a 4 cyl. Dumping turbos on tiny engines that haul huge vehicles is a recipe for disaster. .
When the vehicle is 30k over priced and they take off 15k. It’s still very far from a deal.
Since 2021 MSRP increased 35% to 60% depending on brand. Who cares if they are no longer marking up.. MSRP is ridiculous on its own.
Thanks for sharing this, and absolutely! I’ve noticed the same thing, at first it seemed frustrating that some dealers were price gouging, but now that many of them have simmered down it does truly seem to be primarily the manufacturers living in imagination land of what they think their cars are worth.
The invoice prices should be the actual MSRP, while the actual invoice prices should be $10k below that.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208what is the purpose of a TRX? seriously, is there any actual utility to the vehicle? Or is it just a street race vehicle?
MSRP, money suckers really pay
Classic grocery store technique. Raise the price of item by $2. And then offer a $0.25 coupon.
NOT ONE OF THOSE VEHICLES ARE WORTH MORE THAN $35000!
Blame the EPA and FJB for high MSRP.
They aren’t worth a dollar!
@@richardweyland116Remember when Joe gave Ford $750 million in tax cuts and they just did stock buybacks and laid off 7000 people?
Oh wait that was Trump lmao...
A fool and their money.
Lol, $35k is nothing anymore. The dollar is worthless. FDT & FJB
Almost guaranteed those dealers have way more vehicles hidden on satellite lots. Still the same games. Don't fall for it.
It’s literally so crazy that some dealers decided to play the supply and demand game that dirty lol.
Yep, hold off one more year. They are in panic mode right now
You are 100% right during lockdowns u had to preorder a vehicle and pay an extra fee for "delivery" they basically already have them
I've seen it. I was driving through MO and saw about 100 new cars parked by a fence near the hwy and the dealership was off in the distance...There were more than one Ford dealerships loaded with cars.
@@Romanio77made in China… must be super reliable 😅
I remember when it was ridiculous and absurd to pay MSRP, and it is, but the dealers have everyone brainwashed that MSRP is good deal. It wasn't a good deal in the past, and it's not a good deal now.
Good insight! I remember always hearing and expecting full size trucks would have 10-15K off their sticker. I never understand and still don’t why the manufacturers put such high MSRPs out there if they’re ultimately going to do huge discounts and rebates. 🤷♂️🤔
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 And a good point on your part 😃👍
I always thought of MSRP as a starting point for negotiations. I guess it’s a retail price, not the price anyone would think of paying. The manufacturer has to put some price out there, and they are, of course, in business to make money.
The bottom line, with exceptions, like entry level base model cars etc., is that if a buyer pays MSRP, the dealer is making way too much profit that is totally unfair to the customer. Essentially gouging.
For sure. No way I'd pay MSRP unless it's a brand you're buying directly from the manufacturer where you have no choice (like Tesla). I'm used to paying under MSRP - my last two cars were less than sticker. I got my new car back in July 2020 before all the COVID stuff really affected supply and prices skyrocketed, and was able to get close to 30% off MSRP on my vehicle.
And just remember high volume dealers don’t pay dealer invoice either - so when they show you “dealer invoice” and tell you that’s what they paid for it they are lying.
I also think the baby boomers knew how to haggle. My current generation gives in too easily and everyone knows it
Who in their right mind would pay that much for any Bronco? It's absurd
I saw one in Las Vegas a few months ago that had a 15k mark up and it was just on a regular 2 door model… 🤢
I see them all over the university I work at. So basically all the teachers that are teaching your kids to hate white people and mutilate their childrens genitals.
Collapse??? When the the prices are forced down to reality, then we'll begin to call it a collapse....these prices are still escalated.
So not paying any mark ups and just paying MSRP with high interest rates is now called a “collapse?” 😅
I more meant to articulate that the car market is collapsing as in it’s broken. Manufacturers over valued their vehicles to the point that regular people can’t afford anything remotely close to what they now cost.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 broken would have been the better word to use. Words mean things.
The new tacomas are not selling. Toyota just doesn't understand their buyers anymore no one wanted a 4-cylinder truck and their priced too high for the customer that would like something like this. Tundras are now filling up lots and collecting dust as well.
Tfl had a great video on that... 45k for a basic no feature baby truck with cloth seats and no heat? Get bent!
@@breckfreeride Or 80k for an experimental hybrid truck with actual truck features (4wd, can offroad, etc) that may or may not have the longevity that old toyotas had.
Sad.
Well, I'd love a 4 cylinder if it didn't have a turbo, and four doors, and a tiny bed. A little '90s-style pickup would sell out quickly. Hilux or a Dmax, but they're not allowed here in the US.

After you said they were charging $250 for door edge guards, I looked up the prices of door edge guards on Amazon. The most expensive I could find was $20 for 32'. I hope dealerships like this go out of business.
Thanks for looking that up! I’m sure 32’ would cover 2 full vehicles. $480 profit for a couple minutes of work, not bad. 😜 I could see them charging $50 bucks a vehicle, but $250 is just wrong lol.
Yep, Stealerships.
Some of them charged $395 for a piece of crap
You check how much they charge to install floor mats. It is crazy
Last Door Edge Guards Were I've bought was $12 for A set of four Universal
they increase prices 30-40% then give you a 5-10% discount and call it a sale? I dont think so.
I still can't believe people will shell out money for a vehicle over 40k.
Prices need cut in half, before anyone thinks about buying
Cut the price in half. 🇺🇲
Only way that will happen, moving forward, is a market crash/recession.
$98000.00 for a f250 plus tax and tag over$100000.00 guess I will go out and buy2.
Yep looking at used myself since the family is growing.
Toyota has lost its mind! WTF!
I think we can only assume the used 2024 4R TRD PRO in Terra also had between 2 and 22 miles, lol.
Stelantis is worse... They raised prices 50% in the last three years
They are still way too expensive
$100k for a Ford Bronco!!. With the rise in interest rates, unemployment and no increase in pay raise makes these vehicles very costly.
And TBH no body actually needs a Bronco Raptor and very few who can afford one will actually use it to destroy off road, lol. It would be much less expensive to build your own off road we with fewer electronics that can break while off road and potentially out of cell service.
My grandparents drove the same car for 36 years and the same pickup truck for 30 years. No reason to pay these ridiculous prices! Engiñes and transmissions can always be replaced when they wear out.
They must have drove 1k miles a year if that’s true. That’s not feasible for normal people who actually do stuff instead of sit at home and wait for their social security check
I'll believe it when the companies stop overbuilding trucks. Where is the single cab, 8ft. bed small to medium sized truck that makes sense for so many?
They should have done that 3 years ago but they were making too much money
This makes my head spin. So much money for a truck? Some houses cost less! Who's buying them?
Serves these dealers right for ripping everyone off for the past 5 years. Should ask for a $10k credit for being there to buy
$86K for a used Bronco? Dealerships still greedy as heck. Just a tiny bit less so.
Yeah! I didn’t realize those originally MSRP’d for “only” 73k, lol. I can’t believe the dealer would post the original window sticker while asking 86k haha.
Evil bloodsuckers...y'all need to calculate the monthly payment with 20% down ,(y'all do have that don't you?). I have no idea who is buying these things...and how they're getting approved for the ridiculous, budget-busting loans. Wise up people!
That’s insane

90k is not normal for a bronco
I don’t think I specified that they are both Bronco Raptors, but yes, over valued.
In 1970 a new Ford Bronco with a 302 V8, am radio with a half cab was $4,200. Even then it wasn’t cheap.
If you use an inflation calculator then that 4,200 in 1970 equates to $33,809 in 2024.

Buyer's done over paying ??? lol, those vehicles are STILL way too expensive. 95 thousand for a truck ? dropped to 75 thousand ??? omg, that's insane. Plus nobody wants EVS and now we're finding out that GM is moving to Mexico !!! If all these Trucks were 25k, 35k or even 45k, THEN I think people would come on out to buy vehicles. But, NOT when the average household income is 75 thousand for the average family. Let those trucks sit on the lots and rust. And with all the engine problems some of these trucks are experiencing. Thanks, but no thanks.
Walk away, you have the authority, the power to say no.
They will call you back and will offer you good savings
I once did that when selling a Tacoma and got a call a few days later offering me 4k more, which was finally a fair deal lol.
I work at a Ford dealer. I've driven and worked on these newer trucks and SUV's. Been driving a leftover 2023 3.5 XLT CC F150 on odd service runs all week. Nice truck, comfortable, quick but not a gas hog. MSRP is I think a little over $60k, they probably have a $5k markup on top of that. Do I think it's worth that? No, nope not at all and especially for a mid trim truck or a pickup to begin with. I think they need really need to look at their pricing and packaging. I've said it many times before. They've priced these vehicles WAY out of the range of what the intended market audiences can afford or are willing to pay. The chasing of higher profit margins is gonna lead them all to ruin.
Absolutely! Thank you for sharing your experiences and opinion. 🙂
Small trucks like tacoma still twelve thousand dollars over what it should be. The full size trucks are even worse. When full size get down into the high 40s in mid-fifties.I'll purchase again until then.I'm out.
I bought my 2017 Tacoma access cable new for 27k lol. And at the time a loaded Denali 6.2 Silverado could be had for
I really like how you brought up average family household income. Because it really shows that a majority of people cannot afford these 'work' trucks. It's pretty bad when you can either have a truck, or a downpayment for a house...
Yeah, absolutely! And if it’s wise to spend less than 10% of your income on all transportation costs that puts the average family at about 4$-500 total expenses (insurance, gas, tires/maintenance and a car payment??). I don’t know how the average family gets by in this economy… 🤒

With these discounts...
They are still way more expensive than they should be.

So the tables are starting to turn...Thanks for the info!
Yeah, of course! I have a lot of fun checking out dealer lots in different towns. Overall on this trip things are looking a bit better, other than my concern with those TRD PRO models that are like “fake used”? I’d be curious to go back to Vegas and see if they’ve settled down any as that was the most extreme mark ups and add ons that I’ve seen period. 😟
Still haven’t turned nearly enough
You better believe it, especially they’re gonna keep raising interest rates who can live anymore.
Seriously! It’s wild how much more difficult it is for people to start out or even get by now than just a few years ago. 😕
Bring back the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and the Chey. spark.
Yes!! And a more safe version of the Mitsubishi Mirage. I reviewed one last year and had a lot of fun with that video lol.
One of the hidden costs of owning a truck - the insurance. I had a 2002 F150 with a V-6 with a clean driving record - it went up 50% in the last year. I was shocked.
Ouch 🤕
15:51 A couple of reasons why it has 22 miles on it, they wanted to be able to sell it for a lot more money than the MSRP, so they drove it to get coffee and now our selling it as a CPO and the other reason is they get the credit for selling the vehicle as new.
Such ridiculous reasons, but I’m concerned that you’re exactly right haha.
That's what car salesmen do. Play with the numbers.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 what Heard that the manufactures were telling the dealers that if you mark up your vehicles we will reduce your shipment, so to kill tow birds with one stone, sell the car to yourself, drive to the gas station get a coffee and then sell it as a CPO for 7 over MSRP, they could have been caught with a glut of used cars and no buyers.
The interest payment on our debt is 1.6 trillion this year. We owe 36 trillion if I were to give you a dollar a second. It would take me 32500 years to pay one trillion dollars.
Not gonna lie the clickbait thumbnail made me click just to find out where 4runners where $19500 off lol good one
Oh sorry about that! I really like 4Runners so I usually include a line of them as the cover photo unless I find a better line up on cars. The price drop is usually the biggest mark-up or decrease that I can find between lots…😅
If you lower interest rates, you increase inflation. If you raise interest rates, you raise the interest on the debt, which is already 1.6 trillion dollars. We're the brokest country in the world. We just don't know it.
You're right 33.1 trillion and climbing.
How is the regular working guy EVER going to afford even a 70k truck?? I have no idea who they are making these trucks for.

I just want to say great video and very well done. Thanks for looking out for us. You mentioned you switched to Subaru. Do you plan on going to a Subaru dealership and making a similar video?
Thank you, I really appreciate you deciding to watch it!
I’ve actually gone to a Subaru dealership in 1 or 2 of these videos, it was near the end of the video. I wanted to show a really good and transparent dealer, similar to what this Nissan/hyundai dealer group seemed to be like. Where every car has a bottom dollar price and below MSRP, and many even showed low interest rates as well. But because this type of video I literally title and cover photo basically the exact same (with subtle photo differences) I don’t know which one it was without clicking through them, lol. 😅
I loved my two Tacomas, but for my needs I find Subaru is a better vehicle and value. I have lots of Subaru videos and reviews on my channel.
Those with the money and dont care about the price don't really help lower the cost. If everyone dont buy for this insane prices, they are going bankrupt. Buyers have the power if we unite.
💯
I went with a female friend to help buy a car. At the end when they handed over the keys it was a different car with less bells and whistles.
Some of these trucks cost more than my new house did back in 1996.
That’s crazy, lol. I can’t imagine saying that, but I’m sure in 15-20 more years I’ll also be saying that if things don’t change! 😅😳
Think about it like this. These manufacturers take a fair bit of money to make these cars so there’s a reason they are going to be expensive with or without the markups. But it also does come down to who will buy those cars for those inflated prices because the only reason they would mark them up is if they feel like someone will pay the added amount for that variant of car. Which is exactly why people not buying it did the exact opposite and I think that’s why we see the market starting to decline. We are the biggest advocates for the prices. What we are willing to spend and what we are willing to live without makes the market what it is. Agree or disagree. The proof is literally right there lol
Hey,
Thanks for some good info. I liked the format and I'm looking forward to your next video. Hopefully we'll see some trends indicating a price rollback by dealership says as well as the manufacturers.
You're right. Prices have come down but only slightly.
These guys used the pandemic and it's impact on supply to jack up prices. But so did the manufacturers. Yeah the dealerships marked vehicles up over MSRP and many nitwit customers are to blame for encouraging this behavior by actually paying those exorbitant markups.
So now when you look around at the landscape, new vehicle MSRPs are obscene and used car prices are terribly inflated as well.
The $3,000 to $8,000 discount that we are now beginning to see is nowhere near enough. I think the effect of inflation on food, energy, mortgage rates, rent, gasoline, you name it, is beginning to finally wake people up.
I believe many people are digging in their heels and they're not going to be purchasing a new car anytime soon.
Let these guys all sit on their huge floor plans and think about all the years and all of the people that they have gleefully ripped off !
Thanks again
My pleasure, thanks for watching and for sharing your insight! Also, I published my next version of this video yesterday. Thanks for choosing to watch, I really appreciate it! 🙂
I would say the reason you see used 2023 or 2024 models on the Toyota lot is they came out of the Toyota Rent A Car department at that dealership. Very common practice.
People need to stop buying new cars for a year. The car companies will get it.
Love to buy a tundra. But they have to come wsy down before I even consider buy one.
The new Tundras look so sweet! But 50-90k…😨
Great information 😊😊 Prices are insane 😮😮. Manufacturers must feel that Leases are going to move all their overpriced inventory. Too many models with way to many trim levels.😮😮😮
And many manufacturers keep adding more luxurious trim levels and building those rather than the more affordable basic transportation trim levels that most people probably care for and ultimately can afford.
You need to look at the pricing fine print on the websites. So many are adding thousands to the advertised price with "club" charges with things the dealer adds on and FEEs.
I'd hate to have to tell you this but all dealerships are marking everything up. The Ford bronco for instance with its base model MSRP starts at around $39k which is still entirely too high for that vehicle. 130K and/or 90k is absolutely laughable to say the least.
With twin turbos & Hybrid motors part hybrid or full hybrid blind spot monitoring adapted cruise & infotainment system break other things won’t work. People just need safe reliable get you around vehicles not all those the things that break & costly to fix. Vehicles could cost much less. But I guess with all the options & add ons way more profit. But too expensive for most buyers.
while in mexico you can buy a stripped ranger for 10 grand,
It’s sad to see all the decent displacement NA engines that regular mechanics can actually diagnose and fix disappearing. 😔
Travel a little. Save a lot. Sounds like good advice.

Wait I thought Ford Maverick is actually doing good? Since when $86k Bronco is normal? I thought they were in the $50k?
I’ve honestly hardly seen any Mavericks on any Ford lots, and most of the ones I’ve seen have been really loaded hybrid examples that are like $40k. And these two Broncos are Bronco Raptors, which are the most extreme off-road version.
You can charge more interest on a "used" vehicle. This is also a game dealers play with floorplanning costs.
Yes you got right
Add on’s is just that ADD more money to American products that loses value monthly and yearly! This is why I have a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. 400000 miles. Engine and transmission new replacement only cost me $9000.00 runs like a new vehicle at a fraction of the cost of a used vehicle.
That sounds like a keeper! Especially in todays economy.
MSRP on vehicles need to come down 25%-30% before I will even consider looking for a new vehicle.
There should NEVER be a bronco, f-150, Colorado, tundra, Silverado, Tahoe.... over 60k.
Anon… because the dealers let prospective buyers drive brand new vehicles or drive vehicles from other dealerships for a sale. As long as they don’t exceed 100 miles the government lets them sell them as new.
75k still too much imo i can get a nice fully loaded pimped out older model for less
I will check in 6 months they will be giving these away.
I go to dealerships on the weekends just to have a big laugh 😂😂 When some salesman comes we tell them just here for a laugh 😂😂😂😂😂

As far as I am concerned, all of those extremely overprice vehicles can just sit there and ROT. These vehicles are losing value every day, the costs to the dealers are going up with the loans they take out to put them on the lots. Their "Floor Plan" payments must be insane. These dealerships and manufacturers are wanting the public to bail them out for their unfair business practices... In January of 2020 I was able to get a new to me (used) truck to pull my trailer and it was ana awesome deal that I got. I was able to get a one-year-old truck (2500 RAM) for under 30k with 0.9% rate. Those deals will need to come back before regular people can even think about getting back into the car market.

We have a 2000 tundra and a 2007 accord. I wanted a 3/4 ton pickup to drive while my old truck is being restored. I wanted a GM, but on their lot, $80-90k was the price. I found a Chevy 2500 HD from one of the good years, 06, for $10,600. With tires, stereo, and topper, the total price was under $17k. I’ve put 10k miles on it in 4 1/2 months. No leaks, no drips, no problems. Pulls my 8,000 pound camper just fine. Shop around.

Yeah, Ok. 🤡
Going in with cash you'll 100% lose the deal. Finance it and then immediately pay it off with that said cash two weeks later. Car dealers don't make money from cars, but rather loans.
Yeah, the one you were just showing for 80 85000 final payment on. That's only a $43000 truck. There's no deals there yet.😅
I don't understand how can people spend $80k+ on a car. If you make a million dollars a year then fine but for the rest of us, this is insane.
I am not biyying anything over $30k. A used car works just fine for me. The best car is the one that is paid off.
100% agree! People give up way too much of their lives paying for depreciating liabilities like a car they can’t truly afford. 😞
The prices have been around double compared to the early 2000's.🤔
I wish we still had those prices!
Maybe the missing door edge guards are invisible! 😂
They very well could be, just like the cash in your wallet once paying for them. 😅
MSRP was always suggested not the “price”. What happened to the savvy buyer?
That’s a great point! We really do need to keep that in mind and that it’s the “suggested retail price”, which is always the most expensive price point an item should have.
I drive a 2005 dodge mini van. Gave $1,500.00 for it 6 years ago. Still runs like new. Let that sink in.
That’s awesome! 🤩
Went to my local Ford dealership last year to try to make a deal on a new Bronco I thought was listed for $50,000. It ended up being marked up to $60,000 when I went to the dealership. When I scoffed at the price, the manager gave me some virtue signaling speech about how they donate to charities. I left and went to Toyota and bought a $55,000 4runner TRD Pro instead. I would have bought the Bronco at $50k, but If I have to spend more than that to get a nice body on frame SUV, I'm not risking that much money on a Ford with a twin turbo engine.
I 100% agree! Good call on the Toyota. At least you know what to expect and the resale/reliability is there.
Dealers idea of a deal and my idea of a deal are still way apart
Not only are these discounts still not enough for consumers to buy, but inflation in the past 3 years plus decline in our economy is preventing most Americans from buying a new vehicle. I have over 5 buddies that are ready to buy new cars, but they rather stick with their current vehicles and hoping that price will drop in the next three years. But based on our economy and how supply and demand goes, these crazy high prices seems to be the new norm moving forward. if you look at all the new 2025 vehicles coming out, they are increasing them by $5K to $15K MSRP versus the previous year models.
So they jacked up prices 25-30k then discount 19 .... It's a scam. We all know invoice is well below MSRP. We used to be able to haggle close to invoice.
